Wow, glad to see "sequelitis" is at epidemic levels.

you were expecting something different?  hard sell these days i'm afraid.  hell, i would love some new IP's out there, but i am still chomping at the bit for sequels.

 thumbsup for the graphics engine.
thumbsdown to the dumbing down.  i want those rpg aspects.  it's part of what made the first game so fun and not just another fps.  if it hadn't done that, i really doubt it would be as revered as it is now.  take out the non combat parts, the rpg parts, and the freedom of choice (who knew going in that you could save/kill certain people?) and it's just a damn shooter.

hopeful, but i'm afraid we'll look at yet another sequel and reminisce about how good the last one was, despite how much we disliked the previous game in the series (splinter cell)

only played the PC version of CS, which I loved.  Apparently the XBOX version was quite different, though many previews say Snoopy is quite similar to it.

it was pretty similar, but yes,  the flight controls were quite different.  i loved the pc version up until the infamous save game bug hit and i lost half of my progress.  good thing this was back in the returnable pc game days as it went back the next day.

only played a little of the console version and it's not bad on the eyes.

definitely in with the trial game.  have to see how fun it is before i go out to get more space-bucks though.

his last comment makes what i had heard of the aliens rpg especially jarring;  it was said that that game was almost shippable, certainly demo ready.  for them to go from something supposedly close to completion and end up with a final product unfit to be called beta is a sign we should be worried about obsidian after FO:V.  it also makes me question whether i will wait for reviews.

With this deal, I would have bought a Go at $250 and loved it.

Still, SCEA Europe often gets things wrong in other areas, kinda weird that they're getting it so right with the Go.

hell, with 10 games, it practically pays for itself. i'd be interested myself if the right 10 were offered.

sony usa can go suck off a pig.  this thing is all but dead in the US and they can't even offer a deal to get it moving.

any way to import one?

Really?  I thought Horton ranks right up with Shrek 3 and Cat in the Hat as one of the most unfunny "kids" movies I've ever seen.

yeah, but then we didn't have the strong negative reaction to those movies either.  i thought that the animation and voice casting was pretty good and it had enough funny parts for both kids and adults.  i do think it's better than both of those movies you listed though, and while it's no pixar movie, it's still pretty good.  i enjoyed it more than the last ice age for example, and certainly more than the last few disney offerings.

yeah, $150 for just the hardware = no buy for me.  if fable 3 goes the natal/wave/nonsensenameoftheweek required then i won't buy it.  for 150, it better have a game and not just a wii sports knockoff.

i guess we can't look forward to the 2nd iteration, the neo-natal

i see they are hinting at a bundle for 300 with an arcade unit.  have they not learned the lesson about having a hard drive?  brilliant move ms.  not to mention that it's basically knocking 50 bucks off making everyone who buys one separately pay more for  what is basically a camera.
6980  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 28, 2010, 06:36:46 PM
it's definitely random who you get and in what order.  afaik, the same bounties spawn in the same locations.  in new austin, check the wall outside the train station in armadillo, outside the night watchmen's post at mcfarlane and on the smaller building in rathskeller fork.  there are 8 each in austin and mexico and 4 in west l'izabeth.  i've spent a little time in austin since going to mexico and the 8th poster hasn't shown up yet.  hope it does as it would really suck if they cut those off;  they count towards the 100% completion, as does outfits, so it makes taking the bounties in alive even more critical.

i've had them appear after missions and after random amounts of time played /days passed in-game.  you can't get more than one active at a time and once you have taken the poster, you get a non-infinite amount of time to do the bounty.  unknown if the bounties who escape (or those activated but not caught) respawn.  it would be a huge blunder on R*'s part if that is the case.
6981  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Remember when....Nostalgia revisited. on: May 28, 2010, 04:47:23 PM
voting on gimmick, but that's based on what we've seen so far.  when they showed socom using the move, i asked why?  i played an fps with the wii back then and motion control was not all that it was cracked up to be.  this will be their wii fit/sega genesis motion activated thing.  bought on day 1, forgot by day 61.

Quote
Wireless network operators must provide the latitude and longitude of callers within 300 meters, within six minutes of a request by a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point). Accuracy rates must meet FCC standards on average within any given participating PSAP service area by September 11, 2012

300 meters is a big freaking area to search 6 minutes after I call when I need help here and now.

two thousand feet (300 meters in any direction from the lat/long) in a residential neighborhood coves a pretty wide area, that's for sure.  you better hope the cops have good observation skills at long distance or you are just one house in dozens.

yeah, land line is critical if you have any concern over wide or long lasting power outages and are pretty much the only thing working after a quake or major disaster.
6984  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 28, 2010, 04:05:52 PM
yup.  all of the games, stranger missions, bounties, side jobs and challenges are just there and waiting if you want them.  you could go from one story mission to the next and not touch any of that stuff.  you would get a pretty tight storyline and all the action you could want.  whether you would want to play through that way is up to you though.  i spent 20 hours in act 1 alone and still had various things to do before i left.

in regards to the bounty on that pre-order outfit, as long as you go through the bounties before you leave act 1, you should be ok.  the guy was bounty #7 out of 8 for me, so it's not out of the question to get him if you waited to add the code like i did.  he was also the third guy after i entered the code in, so just keep doing them when you see them.

you also don't have to worry about car-jacking innocents here either.  one of the best improvements to the game is the horse.  i lost both of the saddlers to cougars and ended up with a painted one.  even though i have broken a faster white one down south, i've stayed with the painted one.

without any form of affordable coverage now, i need to find a good eye doctor who isn't going to charge out the ass for a checkup.  i'll shop around for my contacts if that saves anything, but considering that all i do is stare at monitors all day long, i should make sure my lenses are strong enough.

never mind the preventative visits.  i just hope there isn't anything wrong with me that can kill me before i get covered.

I don't really like any of them except for Jamie Bell.  He may be a little older than the rest but he's definitely a good actor.

+1 for Jamie Bell.  Seems like a great fit for the new spidey IMHO

even at 24, he looks the part best.  Alden looks like a young Leo, so that won't work for peter unless they are making him into a jock/bad boy. Frank could do it if he can lose the emo look and is probably the next best to jamie. andrew, too old looking for high school.  josh looks like the bully, but it's not completely impossible.

Yeah, it may seem like a minor point but I'm really impressed by the cloth physics on the poncho.

if you go into a cutscene during a rain storm, you'll see the other part of the cloth physics that looks cool.  the wind ruffles your sleeves.  it rained in-game for a solid 30 minutes of real-time yesterday, complete with lightning and thunder.  their weather effects are pretty impressive too.  too bad they couldn't get the rain to accumulate for longer periods of time and pool up in large craters when the big storms roll through.

I had that one and returned it. It was right after I got rid of my VooDoo card and the software render looked horrible. I wonder how it looks in DX? IWar 1 was one of the best looking and fun games I ever played at the time. I was disappointed in Iwar 2 but it was good in it's own right.

it was also quite a bit different from other space shooters and difficult beyond that.

the best thing IW2 did was to open up the universe to exploration and free form gameplay, but that also took away much of the narrative and mission structure from the first one.  starting out in a tug was also a setback after the corvette.

i figured as much after i hit the same problem after a loss with both level 2 and level 3.  it just seemed jarring that after 8 wins in the US with 4 disarms, i suddenly go 0-4 without even firing a shot when i hadn't changed my tactics.  i usually wait a bit to zoom in before aiming and have my gun up before he does.  aim several times at the gun/right arm and then the rest at head/upper body.  before, i was able to win by disarm after the first click, but now, nothing.

i think i'll start aiming sooner.

Oh, how have people handled the firing squads that you come across in Mexico?

I take 'em down with the justification that if this was a 'righteous' execution, they wouldn't be dragging a perp into the middle of the desert to do it.

This!

been doing the same thing. it's ok that you get a bounty for doing it as you are defying the federales and they have control.  in essence, you are working as a rebel.

i do think it's odd that you get a bounty even when there are no survivors though.

anyone tried using a bandit/gang outfit when taking on one of their bounties?  curious if it actually does what it says it does, ie you are seen as a friendly.  would make it easier to take them in live.

got my third glitch, which forced a reload.  got the bounty target tied up and called for my horse.  well, he goes off and gets stuck in a dip and can't be called up.  i pick up the guy and he vanishes.  marston has his hand up like he's carrying him, but there's nothing there.  the game also assumed i hadn't picked him up either as i couldn't put him down or on the horse (who was still fighting to get up a small incline).  rather than bother trying to get across half of mexico on foot with his friends chasing me the whole way, and the chance i would get there and nothing would happen, i reloaded.

also, ever since i got to mexico, i haven't been able to win a duel.  not sure what i a doing wrong, but it's annoying that all of a sudden, john's trigger finger is broken.  even tried it with deadeye 3 and aiming for his gun arm.  no dice.  dead 4 times already.

You really can't go wrong with red dead unless you don't like open sandbox games. I would also recommend Nier if you like action adventure games.  Don't let the Square Enix label scare you away; this is not a FF game.

Otherwise, you have the usual list of games; dead rising, crackdown, etc.

did you select it in the inventory screen and 'use' it?

don't have to.  once you buy it, it just unlocks.  i'd go back a save if you have one or if you are close to finishing the outfit, try that and see if it unlocks then and the checklist is bugged.

had my second glitch and it was a game-ender.  at a duel, it failed to load up the duel after i walked to the spot.  screen went black and that was it.  had to hard reset the xbox.
