got a copy of final fantasy tactics if you want.

also, lumines is a great puzzle game, as are the exit games and patapon

both of the syphon filter games are awesome and imho, right up there with the metal gear games in overall quality.

the ff7 sequel is pretty good too.

the god of war game(s) are awesome as well.

both the gta stories games are great fun and a nice way to revisit the setting.
6922  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Earth Defense Force returns! on: September 17, 2010, 10:15:20 PM
it looks good despite the big flying ant having visible polygon lines.  if they can get the numbers of bugs on one screen that they did in the first, i can stand a little bit of blockiness.  decent texture work on the soldier too.

bit of a gamble with that dev.  they really botched the matt hazard game from a gameplay perspective, but then again, this isn't going to compete with the big games either.

6924  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Indie Bundles - 6 games for$20, 12 for $30 on: September 17, 2010, 08:06:04 AM

Summer of love bundle
Captain Forever
Space Giraffe

Indie love bundle
And Yet It Moves

they also have the mega bundle with all 12 and apparently, if you have some of these games already as i do, you can get the serials gifted to other people.  might be worth a shot for a group looking to pick up a bunch of gaming on the cheap.

through 9-22

If you go with the gc, lmk as I have both donkey konga 2 and jungle beat and a set of the drums. I also still have a wavebird, a copy of Zelda (sadly without manual though) and a few other games, plus some of the more mature games if you want something to play on it.  I can get you a list if you are interested.

it will be interesting to see how they stack up this year.  halo, cod, moh.  any two of them in a year is cause for a fight between player populations.  i think moh may be the long shot here.
6929  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 17, 2010, 12:57:14 AM
should be a standard xbla card.  redeem it through the dashboard menu.

just finished the campaign on heroic and i already dread even trying it on legendary solo.  the last section before the credits was particularly bad;  must have died a dozen times.  i liked the connection to the first halo.  anyone know if there's an alt ending for legendary like the rest?  might be worth playing for but in co-op.

played a bunch of firefight last night and i could see that being the mode i go back to.  the defense aspect coupled with the variety of enemies (and vehicles) makes it much more like a campaign battle.  got a killer match where i ended up with more than double anyone else's points, it was epic.  had a massive streak going with the sniper rifle.

totally forgot it was Ubisots.  out.

i'd forgotten about that.  and from the looks of it, there's no way to bypass it.  figured the hackers had broken it already.

AoG gold is a great game.  I played it solidly for weeks and still have the expansion stuff to look forward to after the big game rush is over. Very beautiful game and deep without drowning you in details. Campaign is nicely done too.

Looks like a good set of achievements. I guess the wording is their way of saying the two stack. It's not always obvious and not all difficulty achievements do.
6933  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Ico/Shadow Of The Colossus to be re-released on the PS3! on: September 16, 2010, 06:40:21 PM
Sure it does, the 9th core is powered by The Force.  They only need to disable it via firmware update to make the system faster.

It can be argued that sotc wouldn't benefit from 60fps as much as gow did and get a much bigger boost from using the resources for draw distance and higher res textures.
6934  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Mafia II impressions on: September 16, 2010, 06:35:18 PM
Sure, halo reach is slated for 2013.

Btw, did you know that MS is very convinced the end of the world will be in 2012?  True story I just made up.

I'll wait for the inevitable gold edition and rent it. I did pretty much everything I wanted to do in mafia 2.  What I would actually be interested in would be a continuation of the story past the ending with Joe in some kind of what-if scenario like he DLC for the force unleashed.
6935  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 16, 2010, 06:26:53 PM
It takes a bit of adjustment to the speed but if you could hack it in unreal tournament, you should be fine.

If you aren't using your backpack in multi, you aren't playing on an even level with the regulars.

Aside from co-op, the best mp mode to get adjusted would be firefight.  Faster paced but you don't have to worry about facing the best players. Or just play the custom modes with friends. In time you shouldn't be facing too many of those crazy good players as the ranking system should match them against comparable players.

They must be pretty high themselves if they think they'll sell 3 million of these in the first year, let alone two months.

it definitely looks better in some sections, but i hope they make the up close ground and ruins textures better.  that second shot was distracting with the platform under his feet.

granted my memory of ico is measured in years and not months, i'd say it looks pretty good but not revolutionary.

as for sotc, the viewing distance seems greatly improved but the shot doesn't give you any idea how much they improved the detail.

i really hope they have a better improvement or tbh, i won't pick this up.  i finished ico back in the day and still have my bc ps3 and sotc in the box if i want to play it.
6942  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Professor Layton and the Unwound Future on: September 16, 2010, 01:08:54 AM
so pretty much mots then?  should still be a good game even if it does come off as a derivative.  i loved the first, liked the second and will eventually play this.  there's too much out now that i don't feel the need to get it right away.
6943  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 16, 2010, 01:04:59 AM
i'd say it's at least as big as halo 3 and probably more so as it's the last time we get to see bungie at the helm plus it's got the improvements from the last two to improve it.  there were certainly enough of us outside the store at midnight where i was and the online population is very high.

Sweet. I had no idea some D2D games could be installed on Steam and I was kicking myself for not getting Metro 2033 for $25 on the Steam dealie a few weeks ago.

well, i got it from this list on steam and d2d is the only other download service which sells steamworks enabled titles, afaik.

What, are they running out of ideas or something?  They already had DAO for sale.

Small note, metro can be registered and d/l'ed on steam instead if you want to bypass D2D.

nvm.  me=blind

that's pretty bad, especially as some people would have bought a new slim to play this back in june in advance.  amazingly whatever caching technique used in sp doesn't help in co-op.
6948  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 15, 2010, 05:41:03 PM
they can be a pita if they have any support though.  best way i found was when kato and i took them on in the fifth mission.  i kept the wraith's guns on one which kept his shield up the whole time and allowed kato to grenade him.  the big explosives are best against them for sure.  never been close enough but i imagine a few shotgun blasts would put the hurt on them as well.
6949  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Fall Gaming Rush is almost upon us, what are you buying? on: September 15, 2010, 05:38:33 PM
it will look even slimmer if true crime was pushed back to march like it was announced early last month.

i agree though that october looks to be the month of the quarter this year though.

i have this on my plate, but excepting the killer sale, most will be rentals for me.

Dead Rising 2 - rental for me based on my "meh" reaction to the first one.
Front Mission Evolved - really hope this one is good, but even if it rocks, the mp will probably dry up or be effectively doa.
Enslaved - looks cool, but i am a bit reserved as it's an SP game and i can pick this up after hearing if it's that good.
Two Worlds 2 - definitely in with a rental, pretty much based solely on how well the port turns out.
MoH - mp game of the month.
Fallout NV - heart says yes, brain says "hey, don't you still have half of FO3 to finish?"
Arcania - again, waiting on console quality, not on my A list, especially with the other three rpg's being higher priority.
Fable 3 - looking forward to it despite the smaller focus on traditional RPG aspects.  likely day one.
SW FU2 - also looking forward to this.
AssCreed, Bro! - definitely maybe.
tron Evo - curious if they can pull it off but i really wanted a tron 2.0 style game.
6950  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 15, 2010, 04:58:44 PM
Played through level 6 and half of 7 so far and I definitely prefer co-op over sp for a couple of reasons. The battles are awesome when you can coordinate attacks and being able to reapawn mid-checkpoint is a huge game changer in the larger firefights.

Elites are again the biggest threat you face, both with the shield and their uncanny ability to dodge as soon as you put the crosshairs over them. Against more than one it's a huge challenge and very fulfilling to get past, especially on Heroic. I've had only a few difficult spots so far and it's more about the enemy's location than it is about their numbers.  Their was one particularly nasty spot with a small force and a turret defending the end of a platform which was a bit troublesome though.

I do like that the harder difficulties don't take the cheap way like MW does with the omniscient clone armies.
I might even try to solo legendary difficulty.

Actually, apparently I won't be doing Sonic Adventure (3.5/10?  Sheesh!)
Ouch. That's an "avoid at all costs" score. How could the possibly screw that one up?
6953  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Civilization 5: Now Steam powered! on: September 15, 2010, 12:32:57 AM
Don't forget, as it's a steamworks title it should be registerable through it for download so you could pick this up on D2D with the $10 off codes, ignore their downloader and go through steam instead. If my pc wasn't civ4 era, it's what I would be doing.
6954  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 14, 2010, 08:56:24 PM
yeah, the music seems like a great match for the game.  also, the architecture and building design looks pretty cool so far.  very fitting for an established and advanced human colony on an alien world.  the music matches that setting very well.

6957  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 14, 2010, 10:01:50 AM
I was only able to get an hour or so before getting too tired to aim well and so far, this is exactly what I expected and wanted. The world is very nicely crafted and the gameplay is as classic as ever, but as Disarm said, it's grea to have a squad around. Makes the whole thing feel grander and they definitely use it to send multiple squads at you all at once.

Playing on heroic and the difficulty is just right so far. Not frustratingly hard and not so easy as they can drop your shields pretty quick in the open.
6958  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 14, 2010, 08:16:42 AM
After tonight, I will be very careful on whether to preorder or not. He non preorder line was out of the store before I even got in despite being about twice as long. The gift card will supposedly be mailed out in 3-4 weeks; everyone else got it tonight. Keep my fingers crossed.

Here's the icing for that crap sandwich. The freeway is down to 1 lane 2 miles from my house. I have gone all of about a half mile in ten minutes. F you DoT for making traffic worse than a holiday rush at 1 goddamn  a.m. in the morning. Your collossal fuckup has killed the rest of the night for me.
