that sounds about right, even for the uncensored hot coffee-modable version.

if a brick gun could shoot little bricks, then it would be in the same league as this.  the guy who made the rifle is freaking brilliant.

puts my early years with lego's building mechs to shame.

i am amazed the ordinance didn't cook off.  imagine the firefighters going into that scene with a potential explosion to deal with.

that pilot is a testament to how well these pilots are trained.

I liked Johnny Mnemonic Truthiness!

as did i, in a guilty pleasure, but i felt like it was pretty disjointed and could have been a lot better. casting "whoa" as the lead made it too corny and took the movie in a different direction.  all in all, the casting was pretty wacky, from the red head junkie to the dr to ice-t as a rebel.  some of those scenes are just plain bad.

this one is so bad it almost circles around to good again.  almost.

it makes me very glad i sold it back then.  i was expecting it to be part of their whole project 10 dollar thing and tossed in free.

if they went back and made it more than just four maps re-hashed and turned into co-op modes, then i could see them charging for it.  but not for the MP practice mode they were describing this as when it was announced.

at least you can do the hideouts solo in a private match.  it's the griefer a-holes who cheated their way to level 50 unlocks using casual aiming who always mess up my attempts to play the way i want to that piss me off.  if the achievements weren't public only, i would have had them by now.

6935  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: June 10, 2010, 06:06:05 PM
to trade or not to trade?  i've got most of the achievements i can without much grinding and beat the game.  if mp is really that dead, i may be able to sneak in the 10 minutes achievement, but not sure i want to bother.  it really is a great game, but with my current budget, $40 iis a great trade in value considering i bought it for $50.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Isn't he dead? And if he is magically resurrected, won't they just have to kill him again? Actually, I didn't play the DLC - who did you play in those levels?

If you really want to know

Spoiler for Hiden:
He's a clone.  That's supposed to be part of the storyline in this sequel.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Well at least that sort of fits the source material.

Fits right in!  I can't wait!  thumbsup

DLC was an alternate reality, Teg.  You played as the apprentice in those, too.

a reality which would have made for a helluva sequel.  i don't think episode 4 or 5 would have turned out the way they did.

It looks like you can only share levels with people on your Friends list.  That's a shame - I was looking forward to downloading other people's levels frown

that was the biggest flaw in trials hd too.  after the success of lbp, do devs just not get it?  if you let us build more levels, you have to have a way to share them, and not just among your friends.

what kills me is they had that feature in the earlier versions of trials on the pc and apparently forgot their history.

i do understand the decision (it takes $$ to keep servers up for level swaps), but if a game like crayon physics can do it on a shoestring budget, why not these guys?

no demo and no level sharing leave me apprehensive, especially with so much on my backlog waiting.

bullwinkle, how does this compare to similar games, control-wise?  how many levels are there?

6944  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Which older game should I play? on: June 07, 2010, 05:57:49 PM
It also depends on how much time you have/want to spend on it. Both wet and ghostbusters are finishable in less than a week; GB was great fun that only got better until it hit a few rough spots. Never played Wet. Saboteur was awesome, but if I were you, having just finished red dead, it might be too much open world gaming so soon. Sacred is a diablo fan's dream set in a huge world and has tons of gameplay but starts slower than the others and is a lot longer to finish. I have more hours in it than both gta iv and red dead and still haven't finished it.

I just thought of another that I can't believe I didn't remember earlier - Alex on LOST.  That was an absolutely amazing and shocking scene.

it also cemented my hatred of the merc and i was very much on ben's side from that point on.  kudos to the writers for giving us all a second chance to see that a-hole die.

i thought her mother was also pretty shocking, especially happening so quickly.

gotcha.  maybe i should look for a copy of that one next time i check the used bins.  i overlooked it the first time due to the generic name.

Fury and martial arts work pretty well.

Boss fights are definitely the big 'Huh?!' decision in the game for me. Overall the game was very enjoyable, but, the boss fights really ticked me off more than once. Sad part is if they'd handled them the same as the minor bosses it would have been fine.

In a game that tries to be fairly realistic, having guys in T-shirts or regular suits ignore being shot full auto at point blank is very jarring.

what i refer to as the 'dead rising' effect.  kill a herd of zombie with one hit of a katana or take 1/20th of a boss' health bar.

achievements!  they look to be some fun ones again:

Drive an Agency SUV into an airborne helicopter.

Four Agents; one driver and three gunners, on a Battle Bus. Must jump through a Vehicle Stunt Ring.

those sound fun.  there's a few about juggling vehicles among your friends that could be good for a laugh too.

interested still, but not as much.  rfg was pretty much all i could hope for in a wide open sandbox game.  i was really hoping this would have been a more out and out war between the reds and blues with a whole planet to fight over and something similar to a strategic mode.

6954  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Thinking of switching from Directv to Comcast xFinity on: June 04, 2010, 08:14:23 PM
we swapped back about 2 months ago.  we got the damn bundle as it cut down on the phone bill and got everything unified.  they bring out one box to install it and the guy spends an hour.  no problems with the install, but he charges us 100 bucks for internet install and 100 for the phone.  its the same damn box.  total rip off.  it also pretty much eliminates the savings over the old service.  to top it off, a month after we switched, they do a new bundle deal.  are we eligible?  hell no.

since then, i've had to reset my cable modem twice via their phone support due to it losing the ip address lease and not auto-renewing.  goddamn, this is done automatically and during the three years with the last company, i never had to do this once.

i would be looking to switch to something else entirely, but fios is still MIA and no eta and i don't want to be hit with another over-priced install fee.

if you do feel like diving back in with gta's world after, i can recommend tLatD.  it was a great expansion and in many ways, i liked it more than niko's storyline.

never played the second one due to how they mangled the disc vs. dlc content, but i probably will break down and get it eventually.

of course, with red dead being a similar game in many ways, i may not go with another sandbox game so quickly.

word of advice with red faction.  hit and run attacks are easy to pull off and are very much in your favor early on when the enemy is better armed and entrenched.  do the extra stuff while you go as you get more salvage from it, and some tasks disappear once you free a section until the end of the game.  don't worry over dying as you can make up the loss of morale easily enough.

and lastly, never underestimate the power of a good sturdy vehicle.
6958  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Bodycount on: June 04, 2010, 04:35:50 PM
really hoping this is good as i love games with destructible environments.  criterion is an odd choice for a fps, but with what they've done with burnout, you know they can make destruction look great.

finish up red dead sp and as much of the extra stuff as i can.  i finally picked up picross 3d and have to play in lieu of all the iphone games for distractions.

if i burn out on red (first pangs of weariness after 35-ish hours straight), i may restart bioshock 2 or get started with opflash 2 on the 360.  (brutal hard, but it seems to have potential for me).  i still have nier to get to on my backlog though, and that's glaring at me whenever i open the 360's drive.

pete, you can't go wrong with red faction.  that game never ceases to draw me back in for more.  unadulterated destruction has never been better.

i also need to see if split second is worth keeping around.  had it since release week and haven't loaded it up yet.
