picked this up during a previous sale.  fun and interesting platformer with a decently challenging mechanic.  you find parts for your ship which both increase your reach and your weight and give you various abilities.  tractor beam, for example.

a good game for the price if you are looking for something different.

Eah, it wasn't until I stopped using the bait did I finally get the right fish. I'm sure there's a guide out there listing the right beach/lure combos to get which fish.

It's got an achievement for finishing under 15 hours, so it's not a long game by neccessity. Save points are not that far apart and I have only had to play about an hour to reach the next one, max. As for cursing, it's in there, but not gratuitously and really only when one character is on screen. I would skip straight to the title screen though. Subtitles are fully available.
6928  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Nier, action/adventure beat-em-up from Square Enix on: May 14, 2010, 02:01:32 PM
I went back after getting kaine to join and after I'd picked up a better weapon.  It was ridiculously easy then.

fishing is a bit of a pita IMO. Spending money on the bait nets me exactly the same as just the lure. When I used the sardines as bait, all I ever caught was junk. I'm chalking it up to early location but I won't be surprised if it happens a lot during the game.

6931  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Dead Redemption gameplay trailer on: May 13, 2010, 08:44:35 PM
Did they ever mention whether you can use bows and arrows?  It would be a great stealth weapon and it would kick ass in mp ambushes.

There's a one hour preview of sorts on kotaku. Pretty basic random stuff but I like the mention of randomness he encountered. Looking forward to getting lost and shooting lots of critters.

So, do I need to be the only indian in the posse?

anything special about taking down the boar?  i've played up to the point where you get the weaponsmith but haven't upgraded the one better weapon i've found.  i attempted to take the boar down but with no health bar, no way to know how much i'd hurt it before it killed me.

damn that's a good deal.  makes me very tempted to drop the gamestop pre-order bonuses and jsut get it there instead.  the k-mart a few miles away seems pretty good about the video game deals.

anyone with an early pre-order at gamestop been able to get the $10 credit granted after you ordered?  i did it back with a few games and have RDR coming for $45.  if i can get the credit, it will be worth the effort.

yeah, i don't get why he had to be the last survivor of a super-race.  that makes his survival from pitch black a bit weaker.  it would be like finding out that the guy in glasses who just saved a bunch of kids was superman.  of course he can do it.

i loved the setting as well, but the whole universe expansion felt like a different movie was made and then they decided to drop riddick into it.

i'd almost enjoy an adaptation of EfBB made into a movie.  or an expansion of the dark athena storyline.

either way, i'll watch this when it comes out.

yay, make it harder.  why not give you just a knife and a whole room full of baddies to get past too.  and keep the same checkpoint save system.

brilliant.  this game screams for mod support to address all the quirks they added to the game.  glad i passed on this one from the get go, but sad that it was such a missed opportunity.

just when you figure that everybody has moved on, they go and introduce a new mode.

4 player co-op onslaught

about a month too late, methinks.

with that, i ask:  was the vip code a hit or failure in your eyes?  it was how we got several 'new' maps and access to some perks earlier.  if you didn't buy it new, it's a pretty hard sell @ 15 bucks, imo.  this new mode (assuming there will be more than 4 maps for it in the end) makes vip a bit more worthy.

6947  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Borderlands - Reviews, impressions and discussions on: May 12, 2010, 03:52:53 AM
i have a level 54 soldier and still use a level 34 battle rifle.  it happens quite a bit and tbh, most of the time i've gotten a drop near my level, it ends up as vendor trash.  i went all the way through the last quarter of the first playthrough, half of the second and a decent chunk of the armory before finding a similar weapon.

for reference, it's a 117 3x fire elemental destroyer with moderate ammo/accuracy but i keep it for one simple reason.  the 'destroyer' implies that when scoped in, it empties the clip in less than 2 seconds.

you will find better smg's.  i barely use them but have a few really nice ones.

typical pre hype thread where we all lose it over not having anything new to discuss until the game hits the shelf.

that said, on with the definitions of blockbusters.

i for one am interested in this with even more than the usual interest due a western game due to the rockstar treatment.  wide open world without an ogres, mutants, robots or cars to be seen.

from what i was reading in the cag thread, it was pretty hit or miss whether the store had it priced that way publicly or in the system, had any knowledge of the sale at all, or would even honor it with the printed blog.

fwiw, my store had all of the games in stock and properly priced.  no problems at all.
