Yaphet Kotto as Picard? Yes please.

that would have been pretty cool.  as would roy thinnes imo.

but casting diana crosby as troi?  wtf?

other oddness.  tim russ would have never been the first black vulcan if he took the role of geordi.  there are a few others who later became supporting characters who were potentially main characters.
6923  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Back to the Future remake with.... Justin bieber....... on: August 28, 2010, 03:28:36 AM
let's all think of how bad this can be.  so, there will of course be a music number (by this guy or his contemporaries) in there at some point, even if it's completely out of place, it's what the kids want.  which third rate washed out actor gets to play doc?  who will be marty's new best friend who is either completely idiotic, invents crap that doesn't work (just like his uncle doc) or is in some way handicapped (so that marty can go back and somehow fix him).  he may also be black too as they'll feel the need to diversify the cast for no apparent reason.  marty mcfly is no longer his name, he is now something less dorky, in an attempt to make the main character cool.  he may even be a jock this time around, but a cool jock, of course.

the film will go back to those wacky days in the 80's, because you know almost everything wacky happened then and the director (a former music video director) will think it's a cutely ironic nod to the original that fans of the first trilogy will appreciate (they won't).  it will also feature a mix of crappy re-mixed hits by the main "actor" and his friends.  it will be available on itunes and sell a ton of copies to tweens who now think the 80's are cool.  nobody alive during this time period will be able to stand the music though.

lastly, biff is now a super masculine woman (another nod to the new culture) who breaks down and shows her soft side rather than be a total douche the whole movie (again, new culture).  she won't be turned from bully-hood by a fight but rather some kind act of the main guy.  this will allow "marty" to get back in time to save doc, get the girl and win the big game.

could be interesting who they get to play the other principal actors and whether they go with the original ending or hollywood-ize it.  i would love the former, but the latter is almost guaranteed i think.

6939  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Mafia II impressions on: August 26, 2010, 05:49:29 PM
Played up through chapter 6 and I am enjoying it. It isn't the deepest game and in light of RDR and other advancements in the genre, nothing terribly new either. Despite this, the environment is very nice and detailed and I love driving around just to see everything. The different elements are all well done and there isn't a sense of rushing to get it out the door. The game only seems lacking when compared to it's contemporaries. Is that fair?  Of course it is and at the same time, isn't. I put this into the same boat as crackdown 2, another sequel that adds almost nothing new to the original design. Both are solid games but both could have been better in the innovation department.

Giving this one an 8 so far and even though I haven't finished it yet, i see no reason it deserves higher or lower scores.

6948  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mafia II on: August 26, 2010, 03:21:21 PM
Playing on hard and I haven't died in a gunfight yet. I have died due to crashing into a building at high speed, hitting a light pole at high speed, hitting another car head-on at high speed, and getting shot at point blank range by cops after getting boxed in (after hitting something at high speed).

I have died a bunch during the melee-fighting-only moments though due to leaving myself wide open to a combo.  So far, it's death by my own mistake and I haven't felt cheated yet.  This is on the console and after 6 chapters btw.

Oh, I also died once after breaking through the guardrails on the bridge.

2001 Acura RSX ~170k.  i always get over 27 mpg on a 13 gal tank.  it's gotten better too.  i used to get 23-25 depending on traffic.

the highlander fares a bit worse of course, but if we take it easy we get over 20 mpg.

Just a warning - looks like Reach is out there in the wild. This time it seems we can't blame the French; apparently, a group of modders figured out how to fool Xbox.com into allowing a download of the copies put up for some press. (Ouch!) Videos and screenshots are already online, and it's likely that if you hang around on forums, you WILL see spoilers. (We'll do our best to keep them off the HBO forum, but we can't guarantee anything... and we certainly can't help with other places on the interwebs.) So if you're looking to play Reach unspoiled... now might be a good time to go dark.

Whoops. Talk about making it easy to pirate - they pulled it from Microsoft's own servers!

they are getting targeted and banned by ms though so it shouldn't last long.  i would still avoid the grungier parts of the web to avoid any spoilage.

Mr. Wang’s truck, and hundreds of others, have, over the past 10 days, been slowly inching their way along the 110 Expressway, part of a 100 km-long convoy that, according to some reports, may perhaps be the world’s longest-ever traffic jam.
