Yah, going out of biz is starting up today 11/5. Happened to be driving by, so stopped. My comments:

Most cars I've seen in a CC parking lot in a long time. Liquidators, not CC proper doing it, so as expected/normal for these kind of things prices are marked back up to MSRP, then a miserly 10% off. So, in my opinion, as to stuff I'm aware of (e.g. flatsceens & stuff) costs more than last week. Plus CC's closure is getting local media coverage, so will make it tough to get a deal. And all these people wandering around in there were buying at least _some_ stuff too. So I expect will be really picked over.

So in other words, there is nothing of interest to a true Scavenger right now.  By time there is, will likely be really picked over. Lots of games around of all kinds, so remains to  be seen what, if any, will be laying around in a month.

funny thing about the closure where i live.  it's already an outlet store, so by rights, everything in there should be marked down to begin with.  i haven't gone in there in years and only bought one item there ever.  bad location and weak exposure to the road.

if everything is getting marked down from full retail, i wonder what they are doing there.

I could've sworn I also read that somebody did that and auto-forwarded the call to the FBI or something...or at least the cops. I remember it ended when somebody knocked on the guy's door and told him to stop or else he'd be arrested. biggrin

It's my opinion that having an airhorn nearby is the perfect remedy. Get a live voice, and blast it in their ears. I'm sorry, but you have the world's most despised job and EVERYBODY HATES BEING CALLED. Why isn't this utterly and completely illegal again?

forward to 911?  awesome, although i would hate to be found doing it myself.  if you could make a grandcentral # your main one, you might be able to sever the trail back to your door though.  too bad the companies most hated for this crap don't have reliable phone or fax numbers or you could bounce them back to themselves.

I was getting junk calls on my cell phone several times a week. Oddly, the caller hung up every time I answered. Finally I put the number in my contacts list and assigned it the "No ring" ringtone. They kept calling for months before the missed-call notifications finally ended, but I never heard those calls come in again.

Too bad land lines don't have a remedy like that.

what i want is a way to forward selected #'s to other numbers.  someone who reported this on the consumerist did this with a rogue fax machine which would call his cell.  the receptionist at the company refused to help him, so he forwarded that # to her phone #.

i would do that in a heartbeat and forward one annoying caller to another.

if you can't get into fallout 3, then i think it's safe to say you are in a rut.  a pretty nasty one at that.  i think we have all been there; i know i have.  sometimes you get so numbed to gaming that you need to take a break from it.  i usually read a book or two when i get that way and it usually corresponds to the post winter holidays.  when i get back to playing though, i get in with both feet and have a lot of fun playing everything i missed.  sometimes it's genre specific and i won't want to get lost in yet another open world game or even touch a massive rpg.

just mix it up a bit.  lbp could be a good break from the action heavy games we've had this time of year.

there's an option to retrieve your gamertag under the log in menu.  did that with a friend when he came over to play a while ago.

but if he retrieved his account, his game save would be stuck on Hiccup's HD.  if your friend comes over to play a lot, it would be better to get a memory card to keep his game saves and profile on.  it can be useful for sports games or co-op shooters like this or army of two.

true, and my friend got into a problem later on with assassin's creed where he played the intro at my house, bought it later, went home and played it and missed doing something achievement related which made it impossible to get w/out restarting.  in a game like cod ww, with stats for online play, i wonder if it's stored on their servers or locally.  if it's server based, then he should be fine with just the tag, otherwise, a mem card would be better.

not sure.  i could log in with his account if i wanted to as if it were my own.  pretty sure that means that they are linked.  did this from the system menu, not from within the game though.

i found nathan's body in the water by the bomb.  not sure if he fell or if he just drank too much of the bad water.  hope he isn't critical later on.

i finished up Those! last night and man, what a nice bonus reward you get.  nothing quite as nice as getting cool perks ala moira's guide rewards.  i think i'll go out and find as many of these as possible (plus the bobbleheads) before i get too far into the game proper.

i stumbled across another deathclaw near the talon merc camp outside megaton and despite missing out on a sneak critical, i managed to take it down without getting hurt.  very satisfying that was.  vats hunting rifle at medium range softened it up a bit, then point blank two shots from the combat shotgun to finish it up.

i think i need to go out searching for the ranger armor too.  great dr plus bonuses to my weapon skills.

oh, the ripper looks pretty cool too.

fallout 3 with fable a close second for rpg.  gta 4 with saints row for action game, mercs getting an honorable mention.  best shooter is far cry 2 with stalker cs in second.

ultimate goty is between fallout 3 and gta 4.  very close but fallout is pulling ahead on this one.

best shooter will need re evaluation after resistance and gow 2.

Sooo...I found The Ripper whilst dealing with the fire ant problem but didn't get a chance try it out.

I make my way into the Springvale School, armed with The Ripper, and get jumped by three raiders looking for trouble. I use VATS on one of them, he goes down in one "hit" - in fact I sawed his head off. I turn to raider #2, and he just happens to be standing right in a corner. I saw the hell out of this guy...by the time he's dead I've got body parts and blood all over the place. I turn to raider #3, who I haven't touched yet even though she'd been whacking me with a lead pipe this whole time...I turn to her and she yells, "OH GOD, PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!!" as she turns and hauls ass out of the room.

Worth the admission price just for that. Fucking awesome.

that is awesome.  i've had a raider run and flee after dropping his buddy and seriously hurting him as well.  i love that they have a survival instinct, however small.  i do wish that limb critical hits would leave a person alive long enough for the coup de grace though.   icon_twisted

Are you playing on a higher difficulty? On Normal, the only time I ate or drank anything was when I was getting irradiated at an NPCs request and it just made it go faster. I relied entirely on stim packs and had over 100 left over when I was done with the game.

oh i have a pretty big stash of those, as well as every other drug too, but i use the hydrants and other water sources when i can as i can radaway the effects.  i keep the stims ready for crippling damage and during firefights.  better to deal with the radiation poisoning (at least until it hurts my stats) then face running out mid battle.

that said, i haven't had to do much serious healing and only died once very early on.

Tip: F5 is your friend. On the way to delivering Lucy's message, i had 3 random encounters that had racked up some good xp and loot for me, then on my 4th encounter, I came across a flame-thrower wielding Raider who had a dog sidekick. I got tore up in this fight and died, and now have to re-do the trip and lost all the xp and goodies.

Remember to quick-save often.

same thing happened to me the first time i went there.  second time i stalked them from a distance with a hunting rifle and promptly took all three of them out (and their little dog too).  great early game set piece imo.

also, i have found that that location does get repopulated as i was passing by that same area and found more raiders to snipe (i call them experience balloons, as that's what i get when i make their head pop)  icon_twisted

one thing i found out last night regarding your house.

Spoiler for Hiden:
buy the nuka cola machine.  it doubles the health from a bottle by cooling it.  definitely worth the effort and if you combine that with a high medicine rank and the book from moira and you won't need to stock up on random crappy radiated groceries.

also, take the "lead belly" perk if you plan on exploring.  makes every fire hydrant a low "rad cost" health regeneration station.  biggrin

i get so little time to play compared to some of you (my god, finished in ~30 hours?!  i have half of that) and just made it through the gnr building.  man what a cool set of battles.  really leaves a good impression on you of the BoS' abilities.  one question though, i didn't get the killing shot on the big guy.  frown  no xp for me.  does that break the ach for me?

also, i have over 500 ammo for the assault rifle and over 150 for the hunting rifle, and i only rarely buy any.  vats and checking every body/building for ammo crates helps.

was up around arefu (sp?) and saw the aftermath of an outcast vs deathclaw battle.  nasty mean those things are.  i was following along with Lucky the trader and saw it run up on him after dispatching a raider.  before you could say "duck!", his head flew into orbit.  both i and the trader's guard opened up on him.  one of us took it's head off.  Lucky had quite the stash on him, too bad none of it was able to keep him alive.  got his hat, money, and weapons.  also got a key, although i don't know what for.  i grabbed another claw from the beast, and found 2 raiders, and 2 BoS outcasts in full armor.  those are back at my house along with their energy weapons.  pretty good haul for a scavenger.  it make me wary about facing deathclaws on my own though.  this thing took out 2 supposedly well trained and equipped soldiers and i saw it take out two others in a very short time.  not sure if it was purely coincidental, but it happened at pretty much the same spot i saw another melee fracas with the exact same combatants (minus the trader, who was a different one who bought it) earlier in the game.

this is what i took.  luck is still at 5 because of it's effect on critical hits and my focus on sm weapons potentially making later fights harder due to less damage

If you can get the schematic for the Rail gun I highly recommend it.  I am taking out super mutants in 1-2 headshots, the big mutant freaks of nature take 4 shots.  There is something very exhilarating about seeing a railroad spike take off a guys head and spike it to a wall.  If you catch someone by a wall you can spike them to it supposedly even if it doesn't kill them.

i need to find those schematics.  sounds like great fun and i already have most of the parts and a good supply of rails too.

yeah, i have to agree with you there SL.  of course, i missed something while going through it (lockpicking) and of course, you don't have to redo it unless you want to thanks to the respec option, so it's not too much a pita.

What are you referring to here?  I did find an item in the intro that required 50 lockpick but that seemed impossible at the time?  I guess maybe not if you it tagged, maxed its SPECIAL attribute and were wearing that item that boots pick by five?  Not sure.

it wasn't that one, but the other easy lock you find along the way.

played through the super duper mart last night.  damn what a fine moment of gaming that was.  the power of a stalker picking off raiders from a distance with that hunting rifle was just awesome to experience.  i did find it much easier to do without vats though, but they weren't swarming me either, just standing guard.

boom, headshot.  biggrin

also took down both of the super muties near the cinema after being caught unawares and while i was fending off a demon dog.  downed a few stims and also started down the path of addiction to the +dmg drug.  mighty nice  hit you have there, even if the let down is harsh.  took out one with a combo of lucky grenade and smg crippling his arm.  his minigun friend is bigger than he is smart and left himself be led around the trees while i pumped shotgun rounds into his arms and torso.  too bad i have no use for the minigun, but it did make my wallet bigger.

i stumbled upon a scavenger and promptly blew his brains all over the lake he was standing in.  oops, negative karma for me, but at least i got some good loot.  maybe i should ask questions first next time.  slywink

can't wait to go back.

if mccain wins i fully expect to see riots on tv which make the LA riots over rodney king look like a drunken college football town after a big win.

oddly enough, i also wonder what kinds of stuff will get passed with dems controlling 2/3rds of government.  one of the reasons i am seriously considering voting republican for local seats and congress.

That would have been kind of cool had the sound worked.   icon_confused

I wonder if one whole episode is going to be Jack strutting around in a suit like the 'model' shots in the trailer....

It looked like a bad David Caruso impression.  Tongue

at least he wasn't taking off his sunglasses every shot...

No, but he did in at least one or two.  That's enough for me.
But did he tilt his head dramatically and *then* take off the sunglasses?

keifer doing a bad horation caine impersonation would kick ass.

The problem is that once you hit 88 mph, you time warp back to 1956. Then you're screwed.  icon_lol
