i have these

hooked up/available
360 elite, DOB jan/2010
ds lite - close but untouched in months
psp phat - not so close, untouched in years except to surf web one time

in storage:
ps1 phat - a lot of games for it too.
ps2 phat - launch system that still works somehow plus a few rows of games on the shelf.
n64 - very few games, but good ones (perfect dark, pilotwings 64, conker's bfd, some other rare action game)

retired
ps3 60gb - sadly passed on while watching a kids movie.  may be resurrected later via sony repair.

Might try out Fallout 3 this weekend for the first time.

I envy you,i loved that game and first time out of the Vault is one of my favourite gaming memories

Ya for some reason I've always assumed learning it would be daunting, so I stayed away.

not daunting at all until you realize you have spent 60 odd hours in the game, maxed out your level and stats, gone through all of the side quests and available dlc quests, and still haven't touched the main quest beyond opening the vault doors.  that's where i left off, minus 3/5ths of the dlc.  i eventually went back and progressed far enough in the main quest to be close enough to finish it but got distracted by all the other games that were coming out early fall.

then FONV came out.....

my gifts so far:
season 6 of lost on dvd
a back massaging pillow
a shiatsu foot massager
an led book light

i still have two more to go to though.

i only bought one really nice gift and that was for my wife.  i do get to use it though.
no, it's not that you pervies.  it's a panasonic hard-disk camcorder.  i used a $50 gift card i got from work on it.

and the camcorder is going back.  it's picture quality is pretty bad.  not even 720.  well, there goes the gift card.... they are going to stick me with the freaking restock fee for sure.

here's a gameplay video I was looking at.  I don't know, I'm leaning more towards precursors just for the sci fi aspect.

yeah, the idea of a an open world game on many worlds plus space combat sounds really damn cool.  but then again, that also described Universal Combat.

6888  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: White Gold: Xenus 2, aka Boiling Point psuedo Sequel on: December 25, 2010, 09:02:45 AM
must be a trend or something with this and precursors finally available in english...

i enjoyed the little of BP i could play (before the bugs and glitches got too bad) and i enjoyed it even though i never finished it.  this one looks a lot better, like a polished version of far cry 1 if crytek had taken a hiatus from coding awesome engines and put it out in '07.

might be good for a change but $30 is a bit much for pretty much a gamble.
6889  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Precursors released at GamersGate on: December 25, 2010, 08:56:51 AM
i had pretty much figured on this never being released in english so it's a big of a surprise to see it available.  the idea is great but i do wonder how well they pulled it off.

not ready to take the plunge on it at $30 but i am interested to see how it turned out.

definitely more like nwn but with a more active combat system which relies on timing your button presses to keep combos going.  it's not a click-fest ala diablo and from a gameplay standard, it is nothing at all like diablo.

I've seen this for sale twice now but I've passed it up both times because I'm just afraid it's old enough to where no one is playing it online much. That's basically all that game is. I'd hate to buy it to find out it's dead.

It's not dead, especially now with the Vietnam DLC.

it also had a pretty decent sp campaign too.  i enjoyed it more than mw2 fwiw

Against my better judgment (I already have 4 other handheld RPG's that I've barely scratched the surface on), I picked up Avalon this morning and spent a couple hours with it.  Technically, it's quite a remarkable achievement.  The environment looks fantastic, the animations are great, the music is good (although it's very annoying that the track starts over every time you enter or exit a room), the UI is very user-friendly, and the whole package is incredibly polished.  It really does feel like you're playing Oblivion on a handheld.  The world seems huge and there's plenty to do, although the map isn't the best and it's easy to get lost without any sort of quest marker.  Especially in the dungeons.  I got a call about halfway through a dungeon, got completely turned around, and it took me forever to find my way back out.

That said, it's such a completely and utterly generic "Ye Olde Fantasy" world that I'm having a hard time getting into it.  I also found myself fighting with the camera more often than the enemies until I switched to a 3rd person fixed perspective.  I'd highly recommend doing that right off the bat.  It's also incredibly easy so far (I can one or two hit nearly every enemy), but I'm sure that will change as I get further on.

I'd give it a cautious thumbs-up, depending on what sort of game you're looking for.  It's definitely grown on me the longer I've played today, and looks like it will be a fun ride.  It still blows my mind that I'm playing something like this on a phone.  smile

you know, I spent about 15 minutes trying to find Avalon on the app store..... *Fist Shaking*

that does look good.  i can deal with generic fantasy rpg if it looks and plays this good.  i wonder how it will play on my old 3g (likely, bad) but i am anticipating getting an ipad/4g soon so i will get this while the sale is good.

and i see it won't play on this one at all.  bummer.

not that i have spent a long time looking in retail shops lately, but i do know that the Strong Bad game was released on disc and that is also a Telltale game.  pretty sure the sam and max games were also released on pc on disc too.

I grew up with a Vietnamese friend in middle school. So those of you here that assumed that I was racist against Asians were just flat-out 100% WRONG.

The only thing I can think of when reading that is this.

The saddest thing about this whole ordeal is that Zekester isn't going to learn anything from it.

heavy rain was pretty interesting to me, despite the quirky aspects of the control scheme.  what killed it for me was when the game locked me into killing a character due to not responding to an obvious directional prompt.  "press left to not die" and no amount pressing left would not let me do what the game wanted me to do.  if i had lost a character because i wasn't fast enough on a qte, i could accept that and continue.  but losing one because it wouldn't let me hit left, no.  i sent it back to gamefly the next day and deleted the game off the drive.

The good/bad part of constantly buying off Steam sales is that it's unusual that I don't own one or more games from all the bundles they do, which makes them easier to resist.

This.  I almost never get the packs, unless I can get one for the same price I'd pay for two of them.

What they should really do is have a pick-and-choose menu and let you get any five games from a group of twenty.  I probably mean they should do that for us, I'm sure they've figured out that this works better for them.

of course it does.  i already have bought a handful of games more than once due to the last sale.  if the new packs are also a buck per game, i will probably do the same.

definitely in on the oddworld pack though.

that's a seriously hard hit.  kind of brutal that she doesn't move afterwards (of her own volition that is)

What is it that entertains people about seeing other people hurt or maim themselves? CeeKay calling this picture "snuff" was pretty accurate. For all we know this girl died from that fall.

Stop posting snuff, Ceekay.

Spoiler for Hiden:
You can see her starting to get up at the end of the video

Thanks for posting that. I'd always wondered how that person made out. I guess I still don't know, but at least there was some movement.  icon_confused
Well, here's the video that shows the aftermath:

I think she made it ok (after a while). If you watch the video carefully, she lands on her shoulder, not on her head. Ugly fall. If she would have landed on her head, it would have been a spinal or head injury.. but she lands on her right shoulder, so she made it.

edited to add: One more thing. Like Bullwinkle pointed, I think it's a 'he'. A very young dude.
well, it's a relief in the general sense that some internet stranger didn't get too seriously injured the way you thought they were.  and yes, it does seem to be a dude (get a haircut ya hippie!).  as for the whole "the idiot deserved it" or not, i think my thought on this one is that if you take the risks, you should accept the consequences.  it doesn't make it any less painful to watch however.  cue the bull with his horn protruding from the guy's mouth/elbow pic.
