Bastards...I have the game...but just purchased it through steam, for ease of use... they really know what they are doing!

hell, i have not only done that (just recently with splinter cell chaos theory and x3) but i have also considered it for games i bought on other DL services.  i haven't actually done it yet though, as tempting as it has been.

i have got more than one copy of a DL game but it was due to the indie bundle

I haven't played this in two years but after reading about it over and over and seeing it on sale I've decided to reinstall and go again.  Too bad my disc is 1.0 and it doesn't look like I have the 1.4 or 1.5 patches anymore frown  Off to download another couple gigs.

yeah, this is why i picked it up for 5 bucks on steam. it's a pain in the butt to install that enhance pack. I did all that and never got around to even playing it, heh.

also over the shoulder, really? I could not stand that view. it felt was too constricting to see what was going on around you.
it could be your lucky day then ericb as steam put it back on sale

Too bad the PC version is a port of the 360 version.  IIRC, the original Xbox version of Double Agent was actually done by the Chaos Theory team, while the 360 version was the Shanghai team that did Pandora Tomorrow, so you wound up with two different games of the same name on different platforms, but the Xbox version was actually pretty good.

had they ever ported over the xbox 1 version, i would have bought it too.

today is apparently re-run day with all of the deals being previously offered.  boo

ah, the indie game is different.  AI wars for all of 3 bucks.

Anyone recommend Chaos Theory or Double Agent? I enjoy stealth but haven't messed much with Splinter Cell.

i have no problems recommending CT if you like stealth games.  it's the best in the series.  a number of different ways to get to your objective, great looking graphics (even now it still holds up imo) and a good story that doesn't get too whacky like the last two.  it also had some of the best interrogation dialog from the guards.

the series takes a step down with DA, mostly due to the fact it wasn't made by the CT team but the team behind SC pandora, so they added in a number of things that makes the game less fun than it should have been.  they added in a timed "base infiltration" component that pops up whenever you go back to your base (the double agent aspect) which is often more frustrating than fun and a lot of daytime missions which force you into using the heavy weapons. (the engine and shooter components are better suited to sneaking than combat).

they reverted most of that in the 5th game but changed so much more that it feels like a different game.  it was fun for what it was, but it's a huge change from the more sneakier early games.

Another day with some good deals. I recommend FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage at $2 for anyone that likes racing games.

It's decent but I wouldn't recommend UC or Flatout 2. Check the Steam forums and you'll see many think 2 was the best in the series - there's also far more playing it online .I only played UC on 360, but having played 2 for the past few days I think it's the best in the  series.

I assume you meant over instead of or?  heck, I say pick up all 3 for under 4 bucks and decide from there which one you like the best icon_twisted

I actually think the first one is the best

The 1st game is definitely very good, but for the 2nd they overhauled the graphics and updated the gameplay. Flatout 1 was crossplatform with the Xbox, whereas 2 was exclusive to the PC. That allowed Bugbear to update it with  quite a few things beyond the capabilities of the Xbox - graphics are quite a bit better.  UC is really just Flatout 2 with a graphics update to put it in line with the standards of a 360 game -  so lots more eyecandy but not much else. From what I've read in forums, the problem with UC PC is that since it's a graphical face lift of 2, it wasn't tested much and it's buggy. I didn't encounter too many bugs with the 360 version of it, but I can say it didn't really have anything over 2 gameplay-wise. But hell yes, for what they cost today you might as well get all 3 and then decide. slywink
didn't they add in more modes to UC or was that just marketing fluff?

oh, and god help me, i am considering getting both SC CT and X3TC, just for the convenience.  a little bummed the sale on civ 5 isn't that hot, but at least it keeps my backlog down.l

No Bones nor NCIS recommendations? seriously? Both shows have been going for what 6-7 seasons now, and are pretty damn awesome . Bones is a brilliant copshow with an anthropological edge to it, and some of the best chemistry I've seen between actors. NCIS is just brilliant, and keeps getting better.

huge  thumbsup for ncis.  i would give it the best nod for actor chemistry though.

i was going to try bones the first year and was immediately put off by the first episode.  there was a bit about "squints shouldn't do X" which i found horribly cliched in a bad 1980's way "oh yeah, i'll show him" and i was annoyed with the actors/characters early on.  i would assume it's ironed out the parts i found glaring though if it's gone that long.

a huge plus to breaking bad.  i have only now started to see a few episodes (thank you walking dead for following it) and it is a very dark and serious show with some great writing and characters.

i would add burn notice to the list.  and psych if you like a bit more comedy in your shows.  for more twisted comedy, always sunny in philadelphia

i have these

hooked up/available
360 elite, DOB jan/2010
ds lite - close but untouched in months
psp phat - not so close, untouched in years except to surf web one time

in storage:
ps1 phat - a lot of games for it too.
ps2 phat - launch system that still works somehow plus a few rows of games on the shelf.
n64 - very few games, but good ones (perfect dark, pilotwings 64, conker's bfd, some other rare action game)

retired
ps3 60gb - sadly passed on while watching a kids movie.  may be resurrected later via sony repair.

Might try out Fallout 3 this weekend for the first time.

I envy you,i loved that game and first time out of the Vault is one of my favourite gaming memories

Ya for some reason I've always assumed learning it would be daunting, so I stayed away.

not daunting at all until you realize you have spent 60 odd hours in the game, maxed out your level and stats, gone through all of the side quests and available dlc quests, and still haven't touched the main quest beyond opening the vault doors.  that's where i left off, minus 3/5ths of the dlc.  i eventually went back and progressed far enough in the main quest to be close enough to finish it but got distracted by all the other games that were coming out early fall.

then FONV came out.....

a back massaging pillow
a shiatsu foot massager
an led book light

i still have two more to go to though.

i only bought one really nice gift and that was for my wife.  i do get to use it though.

must be a trend or something with this and precursors finally available in english...

i enjoyed the little of BP i could play (before the bugs and glitches got too bad) and i enjoyed it even though i never finished it.  this one looks a lot better, like a polished version of far cry 1 if crytek had taken a hiatus from coding awesome engines and put it out in '07.

might be good for a change but $30 is a bit much for pretty much a gamble.

not ready to take the plunge on it at $30 but i am interested to see how it turned out.

I've seen this for sale twice now but I've passed it up both times because I'm just afraid it's old enough to where no one is playing it online much. That's basically all that game is. I'd hate to buy it to find out it's dead.

It's not dead, especially now with the Vietnam DLC.

Against my better judgment (I already have 4 other handheld RPG's that I've barely scratched the surface on), I picked up Avalon this morning and spent a couple hours with it.  Technically, it's quite a remarkable achievement.  The environment looks fantastic, the animations are great, the music is good (although it's very annoying that the track starts over every time you enter or exit a room), the UI is very user-friendly, and the whole package is incredibly polished.  It really does feel like you're playing Oblivion on a handheld.  The world seems huge and there's plenty to do, although the map isn't the best and it's easy to get lost without any sort of quest marker.  Especially in the dungeons.  I got a call about halfway through a dungeon, got completely turned around, and it took me forever to find my way back out.

That said, it's such a completely and utterly generic "Ye Olde Fantasy" world that I'm having a hard time getting into it.  I also found myself fighting with the camera more often than the enemies until I switched to a 3rd person fixed perspective.  I'd highly recommend doing that right off the bat.  It's also incredibly easy so far (I can one or two hit nearly every enemy), but I'm sure that will change as I get further on.

I'd give it a cautious thumbs-up, depending on what sort of game you're looking for.  It's definitely grown on me the longer I've played today, and looks like it will be a fun ride.  It still blows my mind that I'm playing something like this on a phone.  smile

you know, I spent about 15 minutes trying to find Avalon on the app store..... *Fist Shaking*

heavy rain was pretty interesting to me, despite the quirky aspects of the control scheme.  what killed it for me was when the game locked me into killing a character due to not responding to an obvious directional prompt.  "press left to not die" and no amount pressing left would not let me do what the game wanted me to do.  if i had lost a character because i wasn't fast enough on a qte, i could accept that and continue.  but losing one because it wouldn't let me hit left, no.  i sent it back to gamefly the next day and deleted the game off the drive.

I just noticed they have Back to the Future listed for $21.95, so the code will work with it and bring it down to $17.00.

it hasn't released yet and i would assume that steam would have it too.  the tales site already does.
