maybe some minecraft.  have to fortify against the spiders now.

pretty much just minecraft, but not to guard against the spiders.  we spent the weekend building up an almost completely self-sustaining base in the ocean with multiple above and below surface floors and an underground rail line back to the mainland.

all in all, a terrible way to end the season.  i expected as much for the first half of the game.  too bad they finally hit their game in the end of the fourth.  could have been much better, which is at least a glimmer of hope more for next year.

at least i have my weekends back for gaming.

service is great, modem is awful.  i've had to call in to have the ip reset half dozen times in just a year.  damn thing just won't renew like it should.  which brings me to the second part.  their tier 1 is only slightly ahead of space monkeys on the intuitive discovery tests.  i've had to explain what mac cloning is so many times i decided to skip that and lie when they ask me if the router is plugged in.

Carma1 was back in the day when I didn't get to buy every game I wanted and I remember playing the demo over and over again, trying new ways to accomplish the different methods to win.

In a similar vein, I really wish they would get quarantine or it's sequel on GoG.

Last big western dev perhaps. Don't count out the Germans though. As log as they keep making Risen and similar gothic style games, we'll be ok. And there is still Two worlds 2 to look forward to.

I know how you feel about the western devs though. Now that bioware is going all action-y with DA2 and lionhead is determined to set define the absolute bare minimums of what makes an rpg, bethsoft is pretty much it over here.

That whole inheritence deal is about as relevant to the end game as the whole "npc improving her archery skills" bit was to oblivion. They migt as well show us how cool the chains look in the opening dungeon sequence.

gritty and imaginative is also good for the bioshock games.

definitely  play mass effect 2 if you haven't already.

I've always assumed there were submarines still around capable of taking out a carrier anyway, and wouldn't this missile be a bit easier to intercept considering the distance it would assuming to be travelling?

a missile is a hell of a lot harder to intercept than a sub.

faster top speed which both limits interception jets to just the fastest ones and how long you have before the missile hits.  then you have to wonder how accurate out anti-missile systems are.  they have undoubtedly advanced since the days of the patriot vs scud era, but it's still harder to hit a missile than it is an aircraft with any payload, especially at speed.

now factor in their ability to strike en masse beyond our ability to take out their defenses and relative availability/cost and you could easily expect a barrage instead of single digit attacks.

i would expect to see a wider array of support vessels with point defense systems and basically throw up a hail of lead to cut them down in advance.

of course, all this is based on speculation on both sides.  what their capabilities are and tbh, what ours are.  it's not like the US military publishes perfectly accurate data on all our weapon systems.

pre-post edit.
so a ballistic system is even more hard to defend against than straight cruise missiles.  which negates our interceptors and ship based anti missile systems.  unless we have actually got star wars running in the backend without letting on we did, there's a great chance of getting hit.  and like ydejin said, it only takes one strike to cripple our combat effectiveness in a strike force.  without an active battle group and carrier, we go on the defensive position.

NeoGAF has a summary of the information from Game Informer.  Most of it sounds good, but this part worries me -
Quote
"The game eventually logs a huge storehouse of knowledge about how you've played, and subsequently tailors content to your capabilities and experiences. Entering a city, a young woman might approach you and beg you to save her daughter from kidnappers. The game will look at the nearby dungeons you've explored, automatically set the mission in a place you've never visited, and designate opponents that are appropriately matched to your strengths and weaknesses."

That sounds good in theory, but it could be an absolute nightmare.  I thought Oblivion did a terrible job of scaling enemies to your abilities.  For me, every enemy was either way too easy or way too hard, and I played a pretty standard fighter/mage character.  I really hope they get it right this time.

yeah, when you can beat the main storyline at barely level 5 you can tell they tweaked it a bit poorly.
that sounds an awful lot like mob scaling to me.  icon_frown
i don't mind the idea in theory either, but it isn't as easily done if they set the enemies at static levels.  you would end up with quests you are way too weak to finish or too strong and no decent reason to finish it as the rewards will be useless.

beth, please stick to the model that gothic used.

i hope your daughter doesn't get scarred by this.  it's one thing to have a child killed and dealing with the pain when you are that age, but an entirely different beast when the death is at the hands of a fellow student.

finish up Enslaved on the 360, get around to finishing up Uncharted 2, and then start on my next project.  probably not going to be doing much partying this weekend as I spend most of yesterday with chills, coughing, body aches and a sore throat, and after a couple of NyQuil induced comas I still don't feel 100% (at least drinking water isn't painful anymore) so I'll have plenty of free time.

Finished Enslaved, Back to the Future Episode 1 and Star Wars Quicktime Events Unleashed 2.  Figure I may fire up uncharted 2 just to see if I can knock off a 4th game.
well Uncharted 2 didn't happen.  tried to fire up Star Ocean Last Hope only to find out the first disc won't work, then ended up starting another freebie in the form of Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands, which aside from an annoying lever puzzle that got looked up on Gamefaqs about 5 minutes after contact isn't half bad so far.

also picked up pop tfs and it's isn't that bad either.  sure, the puzzles are a bit obtuse, but those are easy to get through if you get too stuck.  i do have to relearn the controls after a long session with ACB though.
other than finishing up a few random moments in ACB, all i did was sample some of the steam games in my giant-ass backlog 'o doom
