Well my original party plans got cancelled whe the couple hosting the party had their baby prematurely, and then yesterday I came down with a case of near death in the form of a cold so I'm not sure what I'm doing.

so the couple having a baby decides to host a party.  brilliant planning on their part.

hope you get better ceekay.  stay off the games tonight and sleep.

has anyone actually got 'into' Game Room on the 360,i played about on there for awhile but i was not really impressed, even though there are some real old games there i thought i would like

I've bought one game via Game Room - Gyruss.  The biggest problem is that it's only Atari, Konami, or Intellivision at this point.  They have to get more publishers on board if it's going to have a chance to succeed.

Unless you're really into the leaderboards or virtual arcade aspect, you can get nearly every Atari 2600, Atari arcade, and Intellivision game they offer via the Atari Anthology and Intellivision Lives collections for the original Xbox (they're both backwards compatible in NA, and Intellivision Lives is available on Xbox Originals for crying out loud).

100+ games for $3 a pop, or buy the previous-gen collections  and get all of them for about $20 total?  Easy choice IMO.

it's the same thing the genesis games.  you can get the collection for $20 now brand new, but per game on xbla it's $5 a pop.  they need to drop it to a buck a game for it to succeed in any form.

but then again, they still want full price for many of their full game downloads, so you can tell how concerned they are about competition.

$10 seemed a little high for Oblivion GOTY. I thought I paid around $5 for the Deluxe version during the last sale.

Did the Deluxe version have the two expansions?  If not, you can think of it as $5 for the game and $5 for the expansions.  Either way, $10 is still a steal for all that content.

The Deluxe version came with both expansions and all the DLC. The current $10 sale is only for the game and 2 expansions without the DLC.

Wow, that is pretty nice, I guess.  I got all the DLC back on the 360 and it wasn't that great, so I can definitely do without.

they did offer the deluxe version for $12.50 though.

waiting to see if today's sales will get a bite from me.  i have sat out the last two rounds despite there being interesting games for cheap.  i just know i won't get around to playing them.

My early gaming was on the 2600. Lots of classic stuff there. Played the heck out of asteroids and space invaders, but the one I liked most was an activision game where you were the invader.  Can't remember the name though. Then later on playing the atari empire strikes back game, where on occasion you would get an at-at with a blinking weak spot. Loved that.

First pc was an atari st. Not a lot of games except for an adventure game based on a Disney movie.

I'll have to dig up the strat guide to see, but it pointed to one side as the easier of the two, if nothing more due to getting more characters to choose from. I forget which branch started it though.

Dunno if its because I bought so many games last year but this STEAM sale has been really disappointing IMO. Allot of frankly second tier games and allot of stuff I've seen on sale multiple times before. I spent over $100 last year but am sitting at only $7.50 spent so far.  icon_frown

I agree.  Hell....even the summer sale was 10x better than most of this shit.

I don't think it's been too bad.  Part of the issue is that between last year's holiday sale, the summer sale, and weekend deals, I've already picked up pretty much everything I want on Steam.  They'll surprise me with some ridiculous deal every now and again, but with 79 games in my library, there's not a ton of stuff I'm really holding out for anymore.

I agree.  I think it's been a pretty decent sale.  I didn't buy anything from the summer sale and I don't buy weekend deals.  I have 118 games on Steam alone, some I've never even played, lol!   eek
hell, most of my 130 odd games are indie games or from the insane deals.  i haven't bought a single game at full price yet, although i have bought a few at a sale price higher than the big sale price.

and it's not like i haven't bought anything this round.  sitting around 25 as it is and there are still days left before it all ends.

Splinter Cell Collection IS coming in 2011

http://kotaku.com/5715517/splinter-cell-re+releases-creeping-up-on-the-ps3-in-2011

Quote
As we expected, seeing as it was leaked earlier in the year, Ubisoft will next year be re-releasing a box set of older Splinter Cell games on the PlayStation 3.

Called The Splinter Cell Trilogy, it's essentially a second release of a box set first put out on the PlayStation 2, only this time with "high definition" graphics. The three games included are Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory.

The Prince of Persia Collection was "royally ugly". Here's hoping Ubisoft put a little more effort into Sam Fisher's first three adventures.

no mention of Trophies

too bad they couldn't throw in the xbox 1 version of double agent.

If people are interested in the XBOX version of Double Agent, be aware it is BC on the 360, plays in widescreen and looks quite good.
i haven't seen a copy in some time, unfortunately.

Is there something that would work with that, or do I have to buy them seperately.

Anyone?

not sure why you need a separate set or anything.  the TB's all hook into both mic and RCA so you could just swap like i do.  the DSS also has a optical in, so you could plug in from the receiver that way if it has that as an output.

Yeah, it's definitely full priced still here, but your point is very valid, none the less.

If they would go the Steam method, they would need an extra vault to hold all the money.  There are games I have on disk that I would buy again to have in my library for $5.

Of course, they'd have to make my library pop up faster than the 2 minutes it takes now.

ps1 phat - a lot of games for it too.
ps2 phat - launch system that still works somehow plus a few rows of games on the shelf.
n64 - very few games, but good ones (perfect dark, pilotwings 64, conker's bfd, some other rare action game)

retired
ps3 60gb - sadly passed on while watching a kids movie.  may be resurrected later via sony repair.
add a new ps3 160gb slim

Too bad the PC version is a port of the 360 version.  IIRC, the original Xbox version of Double Agent was actually done by the Chaos Theory team, while the 360 version was the Shanghai team that did Pandora Tomorrow, so you wound up with two different games of the same name on different platforms, but the Xbox version was actually pretty good.

had they ever ported over the xbox 1 version, i would have bought it too.

Anyone recommend Chaos Theory or Double Agent? I enjoy stealth but haven't messed much with Splinter Cell.

i have no problems recommending CT if you like stealth games.  it's the best in the series.  a number of different ways to get to your objective, great looking graphics (even now it still holds up imo) and a good story that doesn't get too whacky like the last two.  it also had some of the best interrogation dialog from the guards.

the series takes a step down with DA, mostly due to the fact it wasn't made by the CT team but the team behind SC pandora, so they added in a number of things that makes the game less fun than it should have been.  they added in a timed "base infiltration" component that pops up whenever you go back to your base (the double agent aspect) which is often more frustrating than fun and a lot of daytime missions which force you into using the heavy weapons. (the engine and shooter components are better suited to sneaking than combat).

they reverted most of that in the 5th game but changed so much more that it feels like a different game.  it was fun for what it was, but it's a huge change from the more sneakier early games.

Another day with some good deals. I recommend FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage at $2 for anyone that likes racing games.

It's decent but I wouldn't recommend UC or Flatout 2. Check the Steam forums and you'll see many think 2 was the best in the series - there's also far more playing it online .I only played UC on 360, but having played 2 for the past few days I think it's the best in the  series.

I assume you meant over instead of or?  heck, I say pick up all 3 for under 4 bucks and decide from there which one you like the best icon_twisted

I actually think the first one is the best

The 1st game is definitely very good, but for the 2nd they overhauled the graphics and updated the gameplay. Flatout 1 was crossplatform with the Xbox, whereas 2 was exclusive to the PC. That allowed Bugbear to update it with  quite a few things beyond the capabilities of the Xbox - graphics are quite a bit better.  UC is really just Flatout 2 with a graphics update to put it in line with the standards of a 360 game -  so lots more eyecandy but not much else. From what I've read in forums, the problem with UC PC is that since it's a graphical face lift of 2, it wasn't tested much and it's buggy. I didn't encounter too many bugs with the 360 version of it, but I can say it didn't really have anything over 2 gameplay-wise. But hell yes, for what they cost today you might as well get all 3 and then decide. slywink
didn't they add in more modes to UC or was that just marketing fluff?

oh, and god help me, i am considering getting both SC CT and X3TC, just for the convenience.  a little bummed the sale on civ 5 isn't that hot, but at least it keeps my backlog down.l

No Bones nor NCIS recommendations? seriously? Both shows have been going for what 6-7 seasons now, and are pretty damn awesome . Bones is a brilliant copshow with an anthropological edge to it, and some of the best chemistry I've seen between actors. NCIS is just brilliant, and keeps getting better.

huge  thumbsup for ncis.  i would give it the best nod for actor chemistry though.

i was going to try bones the first year and was immediately put off by the first episode.  there was a bit about "squints shouldn't do X" which i found horribly cliched in a bad 1980's way "oh yeah, i'll show him" and i was annoyed with the actors/characters early on.  i would assume it's ironed out the parts i found glaring though if it's gone that long.

a huge plus to breaking bad.  i have only now started to see a few episodes (thank you walking dead for following it) and it is a very dark and serious show with some great writing and characters.

i would add burn notice to the list.  and psych if you like a bit more comedy in your shows.  for more twisted comedy, always sunny in philadelphia
