Mat Latos and Matt Cain have both been within an out or two of perfection in the last few weeks, as well. I guess pitching is back.

So who's going to throw the next one? Big Time Timmy Jim? Johan? Lee? Jimenez? Somebody no one has ever heard of, fifteen years from now?

i could only hope for lee, but considering how badly the M's have played, he could still end up with a loss after 9 hitless innings.

not sure whether griffey leaving is good or bad.  he won't be there to drag down the average, but he won't be there for team leadership either.   icon_confused

Never bother with any of them, but I do appreciate the intent of some of them like ExHM and tbl. Not sure how much good it does long term though and I had heard about the plight of many of those new mansion owners after the show ends.  Seems too shirt sighted IMO. It would be like giving a homeless man a new car. He can't pay the sales tax and can't buy gas after the tank runs out, but man what a ride!

you do get better scores for playing it stealthy though, but unless you are going for some of the crazier rankings/trophies, you can gun through and do just fine.  afaik, stealth doesn't change the outcome any and you still get the same crazy boss fights.

 thumbsup for the graphics engine.
thumbsdown to the dumbing down.  i want those rpg aspects.  it's part of what made the first game so fun and not just another fps.  if it hadn't done that, i really doubt it would be as revered as it is now.  take out the non combat parts, the rpg parts, and the freedom of choice (who knew going in that you could save/kill certain people?) and it's just a damn shooter.

hopeful, but i'm afraid we'll look at yet another sequel and reminisce about how good the last one was, despite how much we disliked the previous game in the series (splinter cell)

it was pretty similar, but yes,  the flight controls were quite different.  i loved the pc version up until the infamous save game bug hit and i lost half of my progress.  good thing this was back in the returnable pc game days as it went back the next day.

only played a little of the console version and it's not bad on the eyes.

definitely in with the trial game.  have to see how fun it is before i go out to get more space-bucks though.

Still, SCEA Europe often gets things wrong in other areas, kinda weird that they're getting it so right with the Go.

hell, with 10 games, it practically pays for itself. i'd be interested myself if the right 10 were offered.

sony usa can go suck off a pig.  this thing is all but dead in the US and they can't even offer a deal to get it moving.

Really?  I thought Horton ranks right up with Shrek 3 and Cat in the Hat as one of the most unfunny "kids" movies I've ever seen.

yeah, but then we didn't have the strong negative reaction to those movies either.  i thought that the animation and voice casting was pretty good and it had enough funny parts for both kids and adults.  i do think it's better than both of those movies you listed though, and while it's no pixar movie, it's still pretty good.  i enjoyed it more than the last ice age for example, and certainly more than the last few disney offerings.

yeah, $150 for just the hardware = no buy for me.  if fable 3 goes the natal/wave/nonsensenameoftheweek required then i won't buy it.  for 150, it better have a game and not just a wii sports knockoff.

i guess we can't look forward to the 2nd iteration, the neo-natal

i see they are hinting at a bundle for 300 with an arcade unit.  have they not learned the lesson about having a hard drive?  brilliant move ms.  not to mention that it's basically knocking 50 bucks off making everyone who buys one separately pay more for  what is basically a camera.
6828  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 28, 2010, 06:36:46 PM
it's definitely random who you get and in what order.  afaik, the same bounties spawn in the same locations.  in new austin, check the wall outside the train station in armadillo, outside the night watchmen's post at mcfarlane and on the smaller building in rathskeller fork.  there are 8 each in austin and mexico and 4 in west l'izabeth.  i've spent a little time in austin since going to mexico and the 8th poster hasn't shown up yet.  hope it does as it would really suck if they cut those off;  they count towards the 100% completion, as does outfits, so it makes taking the bounties in alive even more critical.

i've had them appear after missions and after random amounts of time played /days passed in-game.  you can't get more than one active at a time and once you have taken the poster, you get a non-infinite amount of time to do the bounty.  unknown if the bounties who escape (or those activated but not caught) respawn.  it would be a huge blunder on R*'s part if that is the case.

voting on gimmick, but that's based on what we've seen so far.  when they showed socom using the move, i asked why?  i played an fps with the wii back then and motion control was not all that it was cracked up to be.  this will be their wii fit/sega genesis motion activated thing.  bought on day 1, forgot by day 61.

Enhanced 911 covers location tracking for emergency calls.

Wireless network operators must provide the latitude and longitude of callers within 300 meters, within six minutes of a request by a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point). Accuracy rates must meet FCC standards on average within any given participating PSAP service area by September 11, 2012

300 meters is a big freaking area to search 6 minutes after I call when I need help here and now.

two thousand feet (300 meters in any direction from the lat/long) in a residential neighborhood coves a pretty wide area, that's for sure.  you better hope the cops have good observation skills at long distance or you are just one house in dozens.

yeah, land line is critical if you have any concern over wide or long lasting power outages and are pretty much the only thing working after a quake or major disaster.
6832  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 28, 2010, 04:05:52 PM
yup.  all of the games, stranger missions, bounties, side jobs and challenges are just there and waiting if you want them.  you could go from one story mission to the next and not touch any of that stuff.  you would get a pretty tight storyline and all the action you could want.  whether you would want to play through that way is up to you though.  i spent 20 hours in act 1 alone and still had various things to do before i left.

in regards to the bounty on that pre-order outfit, as long as you go through the bounties before you leave act 1, you should be ok.  the guy was bounty #7 out of 8 for me, so it's not out of the question to get him if you waited to add the code like i did.  he was also the third guy after i entered the code in, so just keep doing them when you see them.

you also don't have to worry about car-jacking innocents here either.  one of the best improvements to the game is the horse.  i lost both of the saddlers to cougars and ended up with a painted one.  even though i have broken a faster white one down south, i've stayed with the painted one.

without any form of affordable coverage now, i need to find a good eye doctor who isn't going to charge out the ass for a checkup.  i'll shop around for my contacts if that saves anything, but considering that all i do is stare at monitors all day long, i should make sure my lenses are strong enough.

I don't really like any of them except for Jamie Bell.  He may be a little older than the rest but he's definitely a good actor.

+1 for Jamie Bell.  Seems like a great fit for the new spidey IMHO

even at 24, he looks the part best.  Alden looks like a young Leo, so that won't work for peter unless they are making him into a jock/bad boy. Frank could do it if he can lose the emo look and is probably the next best to jamie. andrew, too old looking for high school.  josh looks like the bully, but it's not completely impossible.

Yeah, it may seem like a minor point but I'm really impressed by the cloth physics on the poncho.

if you go into a cutscene during a rain storm, you'll see the other part of the cloth physics that looks cool.  the wind ruffles your sleeves.  it rained in-game for a solid 30 minutes of real-time yesterday, complete with lightning and thunder.  their weather effects are pretty impressive too.  too bad they couldn't get the rain to accumulate for longer periods of time and pool up in large craters when the big storms roll through.

I had that one and returned it. It was right after I got rid of my VooDoo card and the software render looked horrible. I wonder how it looks in DX? IWar 1 was one of the best looking and fun games I ever played at the time. I was disappointed in Iwar 2 but it was good in it's own right.

it was also quite a bit different from other space shooters and difficult beyond that.

the best thing IW2 did was to open up the universe to exploration and free form gameplay, but that also took away much of the narrative and mission structure from the first one.  starting out in a tug was also a setback after the corvette.
