Iron Giant ...."Superman" gets me every...single...time.

This. Without FAIL. Also, the intro to Up is proving to be just as provoking on repeated views.

I've come to the conclusion that Brad Bird himself is a master at the male tear jerker.  The Incredibles has a few moments of near teary eyed emergencies as well.  Needless to say, I was surprised to find out he was writing and directing the latest Mission Impossible foray.   eek

Saving Private Ryan - ending when he talks with his wife

+1 to this

Quote from: TiLT on February 15, 2011, 07:24:08 PM

The ending to Braveheart always tore me up, though it's been a few years since I saw it last.
my first thought when i saw the thread, actually.

the ending to Glory was especially effective.

other than the bits of those pixar movies, most of my tear jerkers are due to heroic death.  hmmm.

also, i have not seen iron giant.  odd that it is not on the shelf for the kids to watch.

well, despite my utter lack of enthusiasm for the lineup, the wife's decision to pick one up a while back was a good thing.  i still have apprehension regarding the longevity of the novelty but the kids do enjoy it and i like the random game away from the more serious fare.

and if i ever get bored of it, i guess i can sell it to a hacker or something.

It's not a shit game. In fact, it's quite good. It's just that there are some annoying design decisions that keep it from being great.

not only that, but just cause something is dirt cheap doesn't mean it still can't be shit.   look no further than the shovelware that you see on gogamer's 90 cent specials in the madness deals.

A gta game this year is a bit of a leap IMHO, but given that skyrim has a relatively short interval from announcement to release, I suppose it could happen.

I would love a new gta, but next year would be fine by me. I would like to have some time between it and skyrim tbh.

The thing is, mech games haven't been all that popular lately.  Front Mission Evolved got a tepid reception.  Chrome Hounds has shut down its servers.  It's been a while since we've had a good pure mech game.  It's kind of like space flight simulations like X-Wing, Wing Commander, and Freespace haven't been made recently.  I don't know if we'll see either of these genres make a come back any time soon.

Makes me want to cry.  I love space games and mech games.  Also haven't seen much auto combat games.  I76 is still one of my favorite titles.  I really miss these types of games.

i would love a good game in any of those genres.  front mission evolved was not a good game in that genre.  they should have stuck with srpg instead.  closest we'll get to anything in those 3 is the new twisted metal, but that's only similar to i76 in that you drive around in both games with weapons on them.  gameplay was nothing alike.

i fear that mechwarrior game is dead.  too much pollution from the rights owners of robotech i fear.  (remember the mech in the trailer was one of the infamous models stolen from robotech).

6653  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds 2 on: February 12, 2011, 10:25:13 AM
Well that's a slight relief then as everything on the first island gets crushed right now. I am close to leaving it myself and except for the poison using scorpions, I have not been near death for a while. I now have more money than I ever have and a ton of crafting materials except for chain. I finally dumped the freebie armor but I should go back and compare it at some point. At level 28, both 2H weapons are rated at over 1k and I rarely find myself facing mixed enemies, so I don't need to swap out much. Still have the bow going as it's been very useful to thin larger crowds. I'll tell you though, that 2H sweep is very handy.

cool.  that's the new campaign mode.

does that make the name wrong though?  if there is an overarching goal, then the battles are no longer gratuitous as they now have a purpose.

so, anyone take the leap yet?  i'd like to know how it stacks up to other 4x games and if they did a good job with it.

strange on the True Crime part,as True Crime Hong Kong which was first meant to be Q3 or 4 of 2010 had a new date of Q2 2011 before this...bit late in the day to cancel it,couldn't of been too far off finished

True Crime was 'virtually complete'

Quote
True Crime: Hong Kong was playable from start to finish and "virtually complete" in terms of content before Activision canned it, the developer behind the game told CVG.

damn, maybe someone else can pick it up like they did with Ghostbusters and Brutal Legend so the dev's work at least sees the light of day.

....and then get sued after the game is released, inevitably.  Stupid Activision...just stupid.

god damnit activision is trying so hard to make me hate them more than ea.  after this and the IW debacle, their place as biggest 'shitty company run by a douche' in the industry is sealed.

and after ea's history of buying and closing all of my favorite developers, that's a lot of ingrained hate.

The translation from PC to console controls are detailed at Eurogamer.

As enemies can't be click-selected, you now move forwards slightly with each swing, smashing whatever is closest (this will be highlighted red) and bruising anything nearby. Animations have been "redone" accordingly, and it all "feels natural and does what you expect", apparently.

Yup, this sounds quite similar to the differences in control between the PC and 360 versions of Dragon Age. Much to my surprise I actually prefer the 360 control scheme and have enjoyed that version more. Since I haven't played Torchlight yet I might eventually consider the 360 version, just as long as it doesn't cost over 1200 pts.

sadly, it is 1200 points.  saw a post earlier.

there's also a rather expensive business venture you can take part in.  it hasn't returned on the value so far but i'm hoping it pays out in the long run.  as for money, at level 25 i am never that rich at one time.  always looking at upgrading my base weapons with a better one and getting anything with useful gems.  still haven't passed the first chapter but i am close though.

6675  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds 2 on: February 07, 2011, 10:04:18 PM
The bashing weapons do improve as you go on. I am sticking with my two handed sword or club and the club does about 30-40 more. This is at level 22 and after the strength skill kicks in, the weapon skill is over 600. Every level of upgrade adds about 15 to damage and I had no problems going through the first 7 levels of the arena battles. I even did pretty well against a werewolf once I learned to get out of his charge attack. I would not want to face more than oneat a time.
