Summary courtesy of Wikipedia: Malcolm is seriously injured in the first book, and presumed dead. However, he returns in the second book, The Lost World, alive but crippled. not sure how it would read to me now, but when the book came out it definitely seemed like he died. of course, it wouldn't be the first time a character was presumed dead and turned up. see jp3. hell, i wouldn't be surprised to see the lawyer make his way into jp4

the biggest things that i remember changed were:
hammond not dying malcom not dying the lawyer lived and the park guide dies instead no pterodactyls no firebombing of the island by the military
all three were retconned in the second book, which is where i lost interest in crichton's work. i remember thinking about the scene in jp2 with the jeep driving through the brontosaur legs and how he wrote it specifically to be an action scene. it read more like a screenplay of a good book.
jp3 was atrocious, except for the pterodactyl scene.
malcom got pretty sick and died while they hid in one of the buildings.

Castlevania DS. I got it in, what, January. I'm on the final boss battle, but can't seem to generate the interest to finally get it finished.
JUST DO IT!!!! i kind of regret selling this before i finished it. not sure why. i just got overloaded with the gameplay for some reason and never felt like playing it again.

GOTY Released in 2007:
puzzle quest and picross. both stunningly simple and both stayed in the ds since i bought them til i finished them. (picross isn't finished, but i have finished a ton of puzzles in it)
GOTY Game Played but not released in 2007:
saints row. sure, it's a glorified gta clone, but since gta is now an 08 title, this is the best in the genre. good thing it's such a fun game to play with no huge stupidities in the design department.
Darkhorse That May Make A Charge:
bioshock: after the demo, this is looking even better. very excited to play this.
Anticipated GOTY After the Fall Releases:
mass effect: there is no other which i anticipate higher than this. gta was close on an enjoyment level, but ME has a lot more going on which really push the 'next-gen' label

this was already pre-ordered, so i mainly wanted to check it out to see if i should swap out the 360 version for the pc because of controls. either i've gotten better at fps without noticing it, or they really nailed the controls. i think i'll stick with the 360 version just for the big screen + 5.1 stereo. if this were a quake fast shooter, i'd be a bit hesitant, but the pace is slower and more measured. if crysis were simultaneously releasing for the consoles, i would favor the pc version.
playing on a pc would heighten the isolation factor though, as i'd be using headphones in a much smaller room. as i won't be running vista and run a 1900xt, i won't be doing dx10 any time soon. the drop in graphic quality doesn't bother me as much as it used to, in any case.
loved the environment and the mood. very authentic feeling. the little things the splicers say when they aren't aware of you. the extra pieces around the rooms add to the lived in feeling. at one point a teddy bear is sitting on a table looking out of a window. it just seems natural, as though the child who left it there was looking out and thinking of other worlds. there's a body holding on to the last semblance of wealth, as if he tried to take it with him.
as for the gameplay, they give you enough of a taste of the weapons and powers that you can see how differently you can play this. they let you work with or against the security systems, which i think will be the path i take through the game. hacking is simple at this point, but i could see some tense moments with more advanced hacks later on.
all in all, if you are any way on the fence, try this out. if you are already in, you could confirm your belief that this game is worth your money. imo, this should run away with the action rpg of the year. it should lose out to mass effect for straight rpg and i doubt anyone will professionally rank it above halo, but it definitely deserves to be a hit.

I'll do it S/P I guess. I don't know anyone else who'd be interested and still has GoW.
i do and i am. send me an invite whenever you see me. kasei vallis is my tag so far, i've finished saints row, played none of gow, and gone through the two lower sets on gh2, albeit not five stars yet. i did add and beat crackdown though, and i now plan on finishing up dead rising before the summer.

If they are leaving their IP, that isn't all that bright. You can track them down right to a physical location that way (some are easier than others, however).

battlefield earth has to be the top of the crap heap. if it weren't bad enough with the huge problems chaz mentioned, we get john travolta acting like a douche.
classic bad scene when the harrier pilot flew through the building. it makes "plan 9" look like citizen kane.
dreamcatcher was a pile of crap, but i don't know how bad the book was to know if it was originally utter garbage or just turned into one.
jurassic park 2 was hokey, but mainly because he ret-conned some deaths.

The first ones that come to mind are: i have that in the garage somewhere. i count myself pretty lucky in that i had the best of the star wars ships and a fare chunk of good gi joe toys too. too bad i played with them though. stupid kid i was. :doh there's a few mask toys, transformers, and a crazy metal robot, with 2 smaller ones and a little rubbery pilot stacked inside.

Sadly, Irrational has now changed their name- they are now 2K Boston and 2K Australia. Probably not too big a deal but I don't care for the name change.
dumb move. irrational as a name has far more street cred than those two. at least they retained the image of independence. Yeah I read that. I'm not sure what the deal is. I can't imagine Irrational going to 2K and saying "Change our name please" so I'm thinking it must have come from higher up. As someone on QT3 pointed out, it just feels like Take 2 making it that much easier to merge/split them apart later. that mean that take two is looking to sell off the 2k line to offset the stock hit from the gta delay?

confused why they would want to do this. doesn't the name have more recognition than the new ones. are they going to do this to their other studios?
btw, wasn't the 2k brand more tied to sports games? irrational isn't a sports games developer.

new details Beyond the astronomical locations, you'll also discover derelict starships, secret bases on alien moons, lost satellites... the possibilities are amazing. And ultimately your exploration is in the context of an intense mission where everything you discover is another resource or clue to help you uncover a dark plot that threatens all life in the galaxy.
it's great. i am pumped for this game more than any other. it's like they took an idea out of my head and made it reality. I thought they made that game already: Barbie's Horse Adventures. no, that's captain caveman's game, with the "hot saddle" mod.

It better be the demo because otherwise I can't imagine anything living up to any of these announcements. But, as someone else said, it's probably something stupid like "download the new exclusive trailer off of Live right now" or "get your Bioshock themed gamertag pic."
ooh, a gamerpic. that's worthy of a press release and tv spot  demo would be good, co-op would be ecstasy. at least give us the first 30 minutes or so in a demo though. i would hate a 1.5 gb cocktease showing us 5 minutes of movie and 10 minutes of gameplay.

damn that sounds interesting. i do like hardbound books and the like for cool games, but i also really like having gaming figures. as long as they aren't the size of the ordinator, it's ok. i'm suprised that the little guy hasn't been broken or bent by now. he stands right next to the 3 pack from prey and the nod soldier from c&c2. now that's the proper way to make a figure.
i'm not sure i'll even pick up two worlds just yet. i was really hoping to play that with a buddy, but he's decided to hold off until gta iv to get an xbox. he'll probably pick up the pc version instead.

CheapyD speaks highly of the crew at the GG site.
I don't really know much about them.
Question: if they determine who hacked the site (assuming the claims are true about the hate speech etc) could they be charged with a hate crime?
It was GG.. and it was taken down.... LAPORTE!!!!!!!!! how did i know who wrote this before looking to the left? hackers are like mountain climbers. "i did it because it's there, and i can prove it." the one time we were hacked at work, the guy did a simple home page hijack and gave us the answer to how it was done. stupidly simple hack, and a glaring oversight by the guy who set up the web page/server. a log file with plain text user/password combined with a static strong password. took a few hours and cost us in some consultant time, but considering the possibilities of what he could have done, we got off light. this looks like a crowley drive by attack combined with some simple dos limited to a few ip's. brute force destruction as opposed to the careful exploit of a site vulnerability. should be back up soon. much easier to ID and block IP's than it is to find the hole in your security and fix it.

about halfway through the first group of 15 block puzzles, and they do take a lot more time to figure out. i did the last one almost completely by logic though, and didn't muck up until the end. it was my mistake though, and not because of confusing clues.
to add to lee's strategy, you also have that option with groups of blocks which add up to more than half of the row. for instance, a 1 and and an 11, leaving 3 blanks. as there are only 3 blocks where the 1 could be, the left most possible position for the 11 is the 3rd, and the furthest right position is the 5th. that means that the 5th through the 13 are filled in. once you find all of the rows and columns who can be partially locked down, check for any groupings which lock down what can be filled in around what you have already. i also use a lot of the X, which helps cut down on mistakes on the bigger puzzles.
it would be easier if i had a puzzle to work through to show you what my strategy is.

It just occurred to me that this has left a very nice opening for Mercenaries 2. Hopefully that one ships on time and turns out as awesome as it looks, because I think it deserves some success. Plus, it is actually shipping for 360, PS3, PS2 as well as the PC at the same time, supposedly. Of course there is still plenty of time for a delay...
good point. mercs 2 just jumped to the top of my blow-shit-up list
