I'm curious about Mighty No. 9, but I don't know if I'm curious enough to buy it.  If the reviews are stellar, that could change.

And stellar they are not.  Sheesh.  Reviews are hovering in the 50% range.

Wow.  That is both amazing and shocking given how anticipated this game has been.  Graphics that are retro, but not up to the last game in the MM series, and worst of all, a gameplay mechanic that is both imprecise and used to justify some tricky jumps.

I'll do a wrap up at the end as Nintendo is pretty much concentrating on a few games and rarely has trailer videos up until afterwards.  Plus, I have to take care of something outside the comfy desk I have at home.

173  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: LEGO Dimensions - LEGOs...Skylanders-style on: June 14, 2016, 02:36:49 PM
While we skipped this, and Infinity as well, my son expressed some interest in the figures that Lego has for the game.  Mostly, I think he just wants the blocks and figures though and doesn't care about the game aspect.  I lucked out in that they only got in two of the Skylander's games and have skipped the last one and the new one coming hasn't piqued their interest either.

As for the locked content, it's a bit like how it worked in Skylanders.  You constantly were coming across things that could only be opened with certain character types, or in Trap Team, bosses you could only collect with the proper trap.  Same mechanic, different presentation.  Before we had a figure for every type, it was always a case of "dad, can we get a figure to open this?".  Thankfully, I am at least happy that the base game was perfectly beatable with the basic characters you got in the box and none of the side content was a large as the adventure sets in Dimensions.  Skylanders level expansions were triggered by placing down level items, not something you wandered across in the world.
174  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: June 14, 2016, 02:26:29 PM
That's nice of them offering the device for free to people who sign up, but holy crap, $50 for what amounts to a USB adapter?

Anyone currently thinking of upgrading?  I would consider it for a larger HD option (500gb seemed like such a big number back then, didn't it?), but my current contract is up in the air, so I may not have a guaranteed income to spend on luxuries.
175  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: E3 2016 Full games list/Live coverage thread - Sony @ 9pm ET on: June 14, 2016, 02:21:40 PM
I had heard something about  a demo, but it was in a side interview with one of the id guys outside of a major conference.  I assume they said something during the BE3 conference?  Thanks for putting that information out there, E9.

Again, I believe that a big part of one's opinion about who was strong is based on how interested you were in the games you were shown.  I do think that Scorpio was a great send off, but it's a long ways off and full of vague claims at this point.  I actually was glad they showed us such a large gameplay demo of Days Gone, but they should have had that alongside the initial reveal and saved something big for the end.  I certainly think it was a better showing than what we saw of DR4 or SoD2, which were short edited trailers.  For the record, I am very excited for SoD2 as I enjoyed the first quite a bit.  I've never been a huge fan of DR's style or mechanics and i like how Days Gone looks and the approach they seem to be going for.

Man, I kind of feel like Microsoft ate Sony's lunch when you compare those two press conferences.

Sony didn't have a ton of things that interested me other than a viking God of War.  And a lot of what Sony showed is still sort of future promises (Kojima thing, Horizon, Crash remasters, Spiderman, etc).

Days Gone seemed kind of interesting but also super shallow.  Compared to what Dead Rising 4 has in over-the-top craziness and State of Decay 2 brings with depth and management and coop open world action, it seemed like the only thing it had was a bunch of flowing zombies.

A lot comes down to what games you are interested in.  Not counting the montage clips they both used (ID, ending rolls), the games shown count up like this:
Xbox One - 10/16 Exclusive/Multi-platform
Sony - 10/13 Exclusive/Multi-platform

Sony spent more time per game, with longer gameplay demos instead of just trailers.  Out of the 10 exclusives on each side, I was interested in 5 on MS, and 7 on PS.  I would not call it a rout the way most on twitter are calling (with Sony being the top dog, btw), but given which games I am hyped for, I would say that Sony was stronger in my case.

fwiw, I am looking forward to 6 of the games Ubi showed us.

I'm really stoked for that game.  There are not enough snowboarding or action sports games anymore, and to see it being addressed by a major developer/publisher like Ubisoft that makes me happy!
I had a lot of fun with these kind of open world races in GTA online, so I am also excited for this for playing with friends.
