RIP frown

Though I didn't know him in person you would always be happy when you got to interact with him. Whenever he came on xbox live you'd have an internal little smile knowing that he'd be a blast to play with and from now on I don't think playing with the GT crew will be nearly as good without him, he'll be missed deeply. We had some fun together and I hope someday we can all do it again.

Really? You're going to throw your goalie under the bus that quick? I mean he had 39 wins this year and didn't had a mostly good series besides the second last game (and this one kind to some extent). Really come on it was your lack of success 5-on-5 that got you screwed, as outside of the powerplay - which got solved in the last two and a half games - you didn't have all that much success. Plus I mean, the Canucks are the highest scoring offensive in the west so cut Quick some slack. It's like your calling for Halak to be put down because Washington is just too good offensively.

Quick got yanked, they put Ersburg and now he's yanked for Quick......

Last night was absolutely the best night of griefing ever.

It starts with me bitching out some player I killed at the end of the round, thinking he was someone else who I was roundly making fun of - anyways the guy gets supremely pissed and then I attempt to apologize. He thinks I'm British for some reason too. Anyways he keeps talking trash and we find out he's a thermal scope fucker so we proceed to make fun of him for two hours until I quit out and rejoin to get him on Hark, Calvin, Mikagami, and Nonnahob's team whereafter they follow him around shooting in the air and generally giving away his position.

In retaliation he throws two matches going 0-20 and 2-22 whereupon he quits.

Almost as good as that was me clearing the lobby of the opposing team after they went all thermal scope on Wasteland by repeatedly chanting "MUFFIN MUFFIN MUFFIN MUFFIN MUFFIN ON A MUFFIN MUFFIN WANT A MUFFIN" for the intermission.

Sure glad you said that before February eh.

Yep.  And I still see the Flames are one win away from winning the division and avoiding Chicago in the first round, in spite of all their current injuries.  Good luck with that Chicago matchup.

Hahaha. You have fun with that Chicago matchup actually. ROFL.

Me, Xaroc, and Dailen Kal over at QT3 have our own team set up on 360 as well. We just restarted to clear the team stats and so far have gotten up to about 64-15-3 - never lost a game on Sunday when we rolled as San Jose for the night.

Hit up CSL GT if you want to play a game on XBOX Live.

We aren't going to have a better record than San Jose or Detroit, but we've got a fighting chance to come out on top in our division.

And the reason for some of our lackluster games recently has a very clear reason, a lack of a certain No. 1 goalie.

Good game for the Canucks last night agaisnt Edmonton. First time Sundin was in the lineup, didn't really make a show all that much - very short shifts - but he seemed to have gotten some defensive attention away from the third line. Bernier as a result scored two goals in exactly 12 seconds.  icon_biggrin

Sundin will get better and we'll get Luongo back and then its time to smile.

The current Russian government is a lot of things, but they aren't stupid. And conducting an outright invasion of the Ukraine is one of the stupidiest things they could possibly do. Everything they've been doing so far is to try to halt NATO and the wests rapid expansion into eastern Europe and Russia's traditional sphere of influence, invading the Ukraine would only make the Ukraine want to get with the west even more than they already do. What Russia is doing now has the probably aim of making the Ukranian political establishment realize that it'd be nice to get with the west, but when push comes to shove the west - and especially the Europeans - aren't intent on rocking the boat any more after the Georgia fiasco, with the Russians aiming to make them live up to the reality that Russia still holds most of the cards in the region.

The next terrorist attack is going to involve a hijacked supertanker, perhaps multiple supertankers filled with liquid chemical fertilizer and sailed into major commerical ports, Long Beach, New York or Philidelphia, perhaps all at once. The blast would be large enough to basically wipe out portions of whole cities.

This would be a crippling blow to our economy as well, and may cripple shipping to and from the United States, the world economy would grind to a halt.

I'm glad I don't live in your farcical dream world.

Five suitcase bombs are more likely to go off in the United States at the same time than for a terrorist group to successfully hijack a supertanker, fill it with liquid chemical fertilizer (wonder where they'll get enough to fill a supertanker and have the time to do it without being caught), then get the whole thing into an American port without anyone batting an eyelash.

Saddam bears no responsibility? The people who kept Saddam in power bear no responsibility? Personally I'm of the mind that if you're under a tyrannical douchebag like Saddam Hussein then you should do every damn thing in your power to get rid of him. Those who did not do so bear some responsibility for Saddam's army shooting at American planes flying over the United Nations mandated No Fly Zone. They bear some responsibility for Saddam attempting to assassinate a former American president. They bear some responsibility for Iraq repeatedly defying United Nations mandates.

This is possibly the most fucked up thing I've heard you say. Sure you might be able to argue this kind of thing if Saddam had been elected, ala Adolf Hitler, but he wasn't.

The people bear no culpability Saddam's actions. To insiuate that they should have rose up to overthrow him is laughable at best. Sure you and maybe a few thousand others might have thought the same thing when Saddam got into power - he executed you well before the Iran-Iraq War. The Kurds also got that fancy idea after the Gulf War, remember, when they got a few assurances or at the very least the idea from the United States that Saddam had been weakened and could be dealt with. He gassed them.

This is possibly the stupidiest line of thought I've ever seen on these forums, so mind bogglingly stupid that you must have been drunk, intoxicated, or just plain fucking stupid. To suggest that because Saddam tried to have George Bush assassinated they share responsibility is mindboggling. If you're to go on that line of reasoning than every American shares responsibility for the rampantly illegal CIA move to oust Mohammed Mosaddeq, which directly led to the Iranian Revolution. Or I'll take it further, with that line of reasoning every white American bears some responsibility for slavery and the institutional racism that came after.

Of course, you simply forgot that since Saddam wasn't democratically elected - never was elected to anything - and to therefore even attempt to apportion blame to the wider populace is nothing less than sheer foolishness.
27  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: So. Why Couldn't the Mumbai Attacks Happen in AnyCity USA/EU? on: November 30, 2008, 10:56:11 AM
Conducting these kinds of terror attacks has to have a strong ego component. It's a nice idea from the terrorists point of view to attack say, a school and murder the children of the infidel, political, or ethnic opponent - but its not flashy enough for many I think. They want to do something big and bold, which means complicated, which is why these attacks happen rarely and are often foiled in the planning stages. We should be happy that these groups are so bold, it lets us catch them most of the time instead of them going for the easy movements.

Afghanistan could have been that democratic, mostly free, friendly major nation in the middle east.  But we left them to the dogs after getting our "victory" there.  Things were actually pretty good, according to reports, after we took control of Afghanistan, with more coalition help of course (other nations were more willing to help there since it was clear that Afghanistan harbored the terrorist organizations that executed the 9/11 attacks).

1. Afghanistan isn't in the Middle East - it's in Central Asia and is so dissimiliar to Middle East countries that you're analogy would be as wrong as saying Algeria is a European country.

2. Regardless of whether or not Iraq had been invaded or not there is no way that Afghanistan would have been a free, democratic nation by this time even with the best of conditions. It just isn't going to happen. You can't even have women going to school without the occassional acid in the face issue, so why should we think a democracy would have prevailed by now without Iraq.

3. Leaving behind the issue that Afghanistan doesn't have the historical development that would naturally lead to a friendly democracy anytime soon, we won't have a stable Afghan government under we've removed the issue of transborder terrorism from Waziristan.

Quote from: Turtle
I suspect part of Bush's motivation to invade Iraq was that we didn't expend enough military hardware in Afghanistan since it fell pretty easily, besides disrupting oil markets by going into Iraq we use up more military hardware and put more money into the military industrial complex.

I also think you're wrong here. I think he actually throught that Iraq was a threat and that it would best serve American interests and the ability of democracy to flourish in the Middle East if he took out Saddam. Now the people under him certainly may have pushed the idea of war to him on far, far shaddier notions.

Everyone is still trying to do the glitcher goals, easy wristers from above the circles with a screen. Let me tell you why raising taxes won't lower our national debt.  Because, get ready for it, the government won't spend a fucking dime on paying off the debt.  They will just continue to spend money on bad, wasteful programs, and even start a few more.  They are like a person whose credit card is completely charged up to the max and then someone is stupid enough to give them money so they can go buy a new stereo.  How fucking dumb is that??!!!

Then you quite obviously need to import Paul Martin.

More importantly, if I remember correctly Bush Sr. raising taxes in his term eventually lead to budget surpluses down the road during the Clinton years, including - shockingly - some paying down of the debt. Now I'm not saying taxes even should be raised in the forseeable future considering the current financial crisis, but tax increases will be needed at some point down the road. And to me the spendthrift ways of members of congress seems more or less equally the blame of those legislators and the electorate not taking the firm stance that needs to be taken on fiscal responsibility - but considering the general lack of fiscal responsibility across all parts of the population that seems a farfetched dream.

I know, that total is insane, and not one cent of it should be spent in those ways.

Yeah, maybe not all of it was needed, but I think its pretty clear the way things were heading that a very large stimulus package was needed. I know you'll disagree with me, and thats fine, but you're wrong. All these billions to my knowledge have kept the credit market from collapsing and getting us into a worse mess than the Great Depression.

We should be pillorying Bush and Clinton advisors over this. Hopefull Obama can dig us out of the hole, though it will probably take two terms to do. At least I live in the industrial country least affected by this crisis.

The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that Obama will need to probably do some general tax increases and they'll be needed, but Americans don't seem to realize yet that having the lowest tax levels in the post-industrial world has got to end if the government is going to remain able to pay bills in the long term. Again, you can disagree with me on this as cutting some of the social programs would largely solve these issues (and we could have a discussion about that), but that doesn't seem realistic or even feasible.
