It's supposed to be 100 points.  Some people did get it free with Auto Download enabled.  I was not one of those people.
14683  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New Uno Deck on: November 01, 2006, 05:26:47 PM
Apparently, there is an Uno deck with a Kameo theme available.  I've actually played it, too.  I say apparently because, for some reason, it's not listed in the download section, even the one from in-game.  I played someone online who had it, and at the end of the game, I was given the option to download it, and it still didn't work.

Anyone else have this problem or know what's up?

My only complaint (a similar one I had with PW) is that the chapters are a little too long.  I like my console gaming in quick bursts.

I'm still enjoying it, but WOW, there are definitely one or two head-scratching puzzles. Be absolutely sure you pay attention to those little comments she makes on the top screen. Her thoughts give hints on what to do next, and they are easily missed while you focus on the bottom screen.

It is important to realize that part of the game takes place in a dream state, and much like real dreams eveything is not logical during these play sequences.

Yeah, I keep finding myself tapping the screen, only to realize I just missed something she was thinking.

It's easy to do because frequently what she says is meaningless (though often amusing).

I'm really loving this game so far, by the way.  I love the style of it.  And I'm a huge fan of adventure games.  All the complaints about having to go talk to everybody and click on everything...have they never played an adventure game before?  That's what you do.  And, unless there are new and more numerous areas in future cases, it's not like there are that many places to go...

Used to be I could type words into the URL bar on Firefox and it would bring up the closest page to what I typed.  I've upgraded to 2.0, and it's giving me an error message: The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.

Did I change something by mistake?  Did they remove that feature?  Was there some add-on I forgot about that isn't compatible with 2.0?  Can someone help?

Also, the Firefox flower in the upper right of the browser no longer takes me to the Firefox page.  It does nothing.  What happened there?

I might wait for the Wii version, but I was really impressed with Sk8land on the DS so I just might buy DH Jam for the DS as well.

Sk8land was good and different enough from the big console version to warrant a purchase, I just have to wait and see if the same holds true for the DS one vs Wii (unless someone knows now?).

I just want them to make Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio Future with the Sk8land engine on the DS.

That would be great.

I also want them to make JSRF backwards compatible on the 360.

Fun game so far, but a BIG boo for not putting in a brightness adjust.

I'm sorry - that needs to be a requirement on all 360 games. Most of them are WAY too dark for my TV set.

I have the exact same problem.

14694  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Impressions on: October 25, 2006, 02:06:12 PM
I picked it up for the 360 yesterday at Toys R Us with Ace Combat X and Magical Starsign as part of the buy 2 get 1 free deal (I mentioned elsewhere that my TRU sometimes gets games before EBs).  I played through the helicarrier level.  Graphics are pretty good, there's a lot going on, certainly, but they also aren't as fun as the X-Men games (I liked the cel-shading) and feel more gritty and real.  That wouldn't be a problem, necessarily, but so far the story seems goofy and old-style, kind of an excuse to get as many villains together as possible.  It's also a little more challenging to see what's going on.  I seem to be using audio cues more than visual ones to fight henchmen.  That may just take some getting used to, though.

Overall, it seems like more of the same, which is mostly a good thing.  There does seem to be a similar amount of level padding, as well, which was starting to bug me (the helicarrier is something like 5 or 6 levels when it probably could have been 3 or 4), so I'm sure folks who demand quantity will get what they're looking for.

I know it sounds like I'm down on this game, but I am actually enjoying it.  Since Raven put it together, I'm assuming the story will get better.  That's usually one of their strengths.  Once I get used to the new graphic style, I'm sure it'll be easier to keep my eye on who's fighting whom.  One thing that I thought especially cool was when I got to the first save point and reassembled my team.  You start with Captain America, Spidey, Thor and Wolverine.  I kicked out Thor and dropped in Iron Man.  A voice announced "New Avengers" and showed me that with that team I had a higher resistance level.  Of course, I did a quick check and there are bonuses for X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Old Avengers, as well.  I'm sure there are others.

So far, I'd give it a 7.  I'm not as initially wowed as I was with the first X-Men game, but it still looks to be a lot of fun.

One thing I don't like is when the levels are so busy that even in good lighting you can't possibly pick out the bad guys without heatvision or your gun cursor changing to red to let you know you have one targeted in.  You flat out should not have to depend on a red cursor to know where the enemy is.

You might want to rethink your confidence.  Even with the brightness turned up, there were definite moments, even in the bright areas, where it was hard to make out the enemies without heat vision (which takes away the red dot, BTW).

None the less, I really enjoyed the demo and am looking forward to the full game.

Not a fan of the save system, though (I thought they'd moved away from that in previous games) and I was sad to learn I couldn't voice command my team.  That was something I really enjoyed in previous games.  Oh, well.

I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so!

(I want both of those demos!)

Don't bother with the Viva Pinata one.  It's just a lame "interactive video" (also available in the US).  750MB for a video.  Ugh.  Also, does anyone know if the voice over actors are used for anything other than tutorials and videos in the game?  Some of them I don't think I could take for a longer period.  The "character" choices seem very stock (dumb elephant, annoying "in your face" hedgehog thing, two-headed snake that seems based on the equally-annoying-but-at-least-thought-of-first frosted mini wheat, and Poocie the Bear), and the actors aren't helping.

Ok, great.  I'm at 12.

However, I tried to rescue the two barricaded guys and the lady in the jewelry store, but that's a pain in the ass because you've gotta carry her.  And to get to the rescue spot, you have to go through the park with the psychos.  AND I think there's another rescue there.

I may have said this before, but I hate this game because I'm someone who wants to do everything a game has to offer, but I'm also someone who only likes to play through once.  As has been said, there is NO WAY to rescue everyone.  That also kicks my moral meter in the groin.

Contact, a game which people say takes 10 hours to beat will last longer than Clubhouse Games, a game which has 43 games that you can play over and over and has online multiplayer?  I mean, I like Contact and all, but as far as longevity goes, I think Clubhouse Games has Contact beat.

Yeah, if you're looking at the numbers, but for amount of time you'll actually play it and for what you get out of it, I still think Contact will get more play time from me (and I cranked through Clubhouse Games' Stamp Mode for a week).  Again, if you can, get both, but Contact will last a longer haul.  Also, CG's multiplayer mode is kind of a pain.

heres what i did - DONT reload saves on that first day! die a few times, ruin a few cases, and then just restart - its a lot easier to do during the first day, you can buzz through them pretty quickly when you go back, and youll have a much more powerful character.  DONT reload the first day, just replay from the start

What level were you when you finally started the playthrough?

Dear Penthouse,

I know people have had problems with demos not appearing or only appearing buried in memos, but I never thought it would happen to me.  Well, one day, after hearing about the great Rainbow Six demo, I decided to download it.  But it was nowhere to be found.  Microsoft started screwing me RIGHT THERE!  Normally, I'm not the kind of guy to be able to check for a demo only once, this demo was so hot, I checked multiple times that same day!  And Microsoft kept coming back for more, giving it to me again and again.

I thought after the last time when I paid full price for the demi-game Lumines, that it would never happen again, but here I sit ready to check one more time.  Oh, baby.

One for the recordbooks, Penthouse, and I never thought it would happen to me...

Normal Rummy, everyone I have ever played with played like that. You can take any of the lower cards if you are going to play them right away, but you must take all the cards on top of it too. Top card you can take and keep in your hand.

I was confusing it with Gin Rummy, which is the version I normally play.

I like the game overall, but I have some gripes:

1. I buy games like this to pick up and play the games I want to play. Stamp mode was a pain in the ass for me because half the games I will never play again and I didn't wanna play them to begin with. Plus making me unlock some of the ones I did wanna play felt cheap.

2. Bowling and a few others games just don't have the right feel with the stylus and are pretty crappy.

3. Too many Japanese games I care nothing about (Shogi, etc)

4. Many of the games are kinda basic, barebones, and thus don't have much depth or customizability.

I agree with those gripes, though I am enjoying Stamp Mode and think it goes pretty fast.  Shogi, in particular, was the worst.  Too much to take in, and the fact that there's no option to have non-Japanese characters displayed on the pieces (in Mahjong, too and that card game that Nintendo got its start publishing in the 1800s) sucks and makes it overly difficult.  The bare bones games are a godsend in Stamp Mode, I think, but even if you never play those or the Japanese ones or bowling and darts, that still leaves a crapload of great games to play many times, which is no doubt why you actually like the game, as you said.

Mission Mode is a little scattershot, for me.  The first one you can select (for Doubt It) is proving impossible for me, but the rest in that block were a breeze.  A bad choice, as I can see people never giving Mission Mode a fair chance if they can't get past the first mission.

I really just bought this for multiplayer.  The demo was that awesome.

But I fired up the single-player portion (because I can't connect to Live whenever I boot DA up) and the game LOOKS fantastic...

It's a shame, however, that I can't get further than the first few guards.  I've died like, 5 times, trying to get past the first few guards.  And this is on normal difficulty :/

And why give me a random bottle on the ground (to toss, I'm guessing to get the guards to react to a load *CRACK*), when wherever I toss it, the guards don't react to it!?

Thats weird, I remember in Pandora Tomorrow the guards reacted to the bottle.  I'm on the fence with this one but I probably wont end up buying it just yet.  I'd love to hear more impressions though!

I had difficulty in exactly the same spot.  Must have gone through that area nearly a dozen times.  But I'm the kind of guy who likes to sneak up behind every guard and capture them to see if they have intel.  It's really just that first guard that's a pain.  I think it might have to do with their alertness level.  For me, I had already opened the gate, so they were looking for trouble.  Also, I think you have to move a little more slowly in DA than previous games to avoid being detected.

Sounds pretty good but it seems more Pandora Tomorrow vice Chaos Theory (ie treading water vice a leap forward).  Which is fine- I really liked Pandora Tomorrow but it sounds like we might have to wait until next time out for another leap forward.

GS mentions the poor framerate on occasion which really bugs me.  By most accounts it's not a huge step up graphically from CT (indeed I think it's the same engine) so there is really no excuse for sub-30 fps performance IMO.
