I also purchased the stand alone RB for the 360, used my headset as a mic and GH3 guitar until the stand alone drum kit came out.  I have two friends that did the same - it was a cheap way to buy into the game and see how good it was.

Me, too.

I just bought a RB Wireless guitar (I'd been using the GH wireless and a wired one).  I mostly got it for the closer buttons, thinking my 4 year old could handle those.

I'm curious about the extra switch (that changes it to Wah Wah, etc).  Does that have any effect on gameplay?  When does it come into play, just when I whammy or is it a constant effect?

Also, why did they choose that hideous yellowed plastic color for the neck?

i can see myself loving this game, but damnit the horizontal slash is ridiculous.   i would have played longer had i been able to get pass the part where you have to slash the statue for that guy in training.   i gave it a good dozen or so times and turned it off out of frustration.   if this is any evidence of how the game plays, i'm sending it back to Gamefly.

Once you get it, it becomes much harder to screw it up.

It's about speed, more than accuracy.  It seems you want as thin a line as possible.

IGN has the bad news:

Quote
Deca Sports is yet another card to shuffle into the deck of quick cash-in sports/mini-game Wii efforts. Like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Winter Sports, Summer Sports, EA Playground, or Nintendoís own Wii Sports, Hudsonís latest effort attempts to draw in the new Wii crowd by delivering simple gameplay and an equally simple look, but in the end itís hands-down one of the least inspired and uneventful of any of Wiiís compilations. The gameplay is sloppy, the characters are incredibly plain, and even at a $30 price tag itís way, way overpriced. Thereís better out there. Skip it.

I'm missing how this makes the VC completely useless.  People have been able to emulate all those systems since long before the Wii came out.

The title should really be something like "[Wii] VC becomes unnecessary for people with the skill or motivation to hack their console."  It's certainly not useless.  Plenty of people are either unwilling or unable to hack their Wii, and for them, VC is still going to be attractive.  It will likely cause Nintendo to lose some transactional income, but certainly not all of it.

I did that until I reversed the flight controls and immediately got alot better.

I tried that, too, but flight is still wonky.  I think it has more to do with where the camera is located when you fly.  I keep trying to adjust to get a better view.  I didn't see an option to change that.

and i think the aim is more of a lock on than a crosshair - so if you get your circle close to a target, youll hit it - you dont actually have to center it in your crosshair

That's definitely how the aim worked.

On a semi-related note, my copy had another review sticker placed on the packaging above the Play sticker (no one trusts Play, I guess).  Can't remember who it was now, but maybe it was IGN.  That would explain the change.  I couldn't figure out why they would take the time to put new stickers on all of the copies.

It really bugs me that the Play review is part of the cover.  That annoys me more than the IGN logo snafu.

For me, The World Ends With You has lept from a title I knew nothing about (I thought it was some anime-based dreck) to top of the list in less than a week.

I could be enticed by Battle of the Bands, for my soon to be 5 year old.  Especially if it has that Planet Moon sense of humor.

I believe I may pick up Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis this week, too.

I definitely feel bad in a snobbish kinda way for people who don't give music they aren't familiar with a shot.  I pretty much download it all and have been pleasantly surprised that I enjoy either listening to, playing or both almost every song I've downloaded.  (didn't like Cherry Bomb, that's about it)

Trying out new music can be very nice, and it often takes a few listens to appreciate a new style or band that you aren't familiar with.

I don't think that's fair, really.  I am more than happy to try new music when buying CDs and such, but the unknown songs get very, very little play in Rock Band.

I was in love with "Maps" when I first got the game.  I'd heard the song before, but it really opened up for me in the game.  I tried numerous times to get my family or friends to play it and have met with, "Meh, let's do Dani California again" every time.

I only played 1 and 3, but Onimusha 3: Demon Siege is by far the best of those 2 and IMHO 1 of the best games on the PS2. The 3rd game also features Jean Renaud who does a very good voice acting job. If you decide to play the 1st I'd skip the PS2 game and play Genma Onimusha for the Xbox instead, which was really like a Director's cut of the PS2 game; it's also BC. Be warned that the 1st game is deceptively easy for much of the game in that you can choose to avoid certain battles that make it more or less impossible to defeat the final boss if skipped. The controls in the 1st game are also very much like the moving human tank controls in RE games. I was able to adapt to them, but some friends of mine gave up.

Yep.

I fired off an email to all my friends who join me at my place for regular Rock Band parties and so far every response has been negative ("Why can't they release anything that's not over 20 years old", etc). We're all in our mid-twenties. I was actually born in 1982 and thus have no familiarity with this Priest album at all.

That's completely understandable, and it's how I felt when I saw them release several garage band types of modern bands I'd never heard of. I just skipped those weeks. However, Judas Priest for me was in the very midst of my high school years, and was extremely popular during that time. There is a huge chunk of RB players that are in their late 30's, thru early-mid 40's who will buy this.

I completely agree that there's a whole demographic of late 30's thru early-mid 40's that needs to have their fix. But since the beginning of March they've released Blondie, The Police, Skynyrd, Boston, and the Grateful Dead. The other two packs were the Thrash Pack (very niche) and the Harmonix Pack which includes very obscure bands. Nothing wrong with lesser-known bands, but I wouldn't call them first-class DLC releases.

Speaking as a member of the mid-twenties crowd, we feel neglected. And then they go ahead and announce three albums today, all of which are tunes that appeal to the over 30 crowd again. It would have been so much better if they would have announced the Priest album, Nevermind, and then (just for example) a 10-song collection from Stadium Arcadium. Something for everyone there and I think it would be hard to argue that they're catering to only one particular audience.

Well, they may be catering to one particular agr bracket, but I don't think they're catering to one particular audience.  There have been a lot of styles of music available.

I think there are two basic reasons why they've gone further back for most songs.  A) They're trying to get "classics" and as such, newer songs don't fit that bill.  I know, I know there are a lot of not so known songs on the list, too, but that leads to the second reason: 2) The guys making this are probably all in their 30s and 40s as well, and they're picking their own classics and working in the genres and with the songs that they are familiar with, because that will let them get the most out of them.

I only did up to the 'cut down the fruit' part then stopped last night, but I didn't have any issues with drawing. Only took one attempt for the rock, barricade and fruit. Don't paint the slash slowly, I think speed counts more here then perfectly horizontal.

Only problem I had was with 'restoring' the stardust river, only got partway across because I hadn't "painted" far enough over. Had to turn back, paint more and try again. Twice.  icon_lol

Thank you.  I was trying to be too precise, it seems.  Speed and less ink are the trick.  I have no problem at all now.

It's a play on words.  The word "okami" (with a line over the "O") means "wolf."  The word "kami" means "god," but you can put an "o" honorific in front of it to get okami.

Ah, that'll do it.  Thanks, WP, it felt like Toshiro Mifune was giving me that tip, himself.

I never played the PS2 version.  It looks very nice on the Wii.  Not what the system is capable of, but it is widescreen and it will work.

For the most part, the controls are good.  I'm having a real problem with the horizontal slash brush stroke, though.  The game seems to be incredibly picky about making it just right (I'm assuming "just right" means 100% horizontal).  Even on the very first test rock, it took me a dozen tries to get it.  This doesn't bode well for what seems like a technique that'll be used frequently.

Anyone else have this issue?  Was it a similar problem on the PS2?  Man, it's irritating.

14354  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSN Store redesign unveiled...but no updates until then?? on: April 17, 2008, 04:40:56 PM
My biggest issue with the store isn't really an interface one.

I find it ridiculous that I have to download something, then find that thing in the XMB and install it (and wait for it to install).  That's ridiculous.  I also wish there was a way to group everything in user created folders, organized the way I want to do it.  I'd like a favorite game to appear in the folder, not just the latest I've downloaded.  And I want separate folders for demos and games.  Knowing me, there's probably a way to do that, but I haven't found it.

Overall, though, the redesign is a huge step forward, but it's not as polished as XBLM (which not only downloads something that is immediately useable, it gives you the option to find and play that item right away).
