521  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Republic Commando Demo is up!!! on: February 04, 2005, 05:23:16 AM
I have played the demo a couple of times and not overly impressed.  It's the same feeling I have when I play SW Battlegrounds.

I think the biggest problem I have is that I played BF1942 for months if not more and loved it.  I really liked the fact that you could kill or be killed in a shot or two.

Shooting someone or something 40 times to make a kill just really gets on my nerves now.

The graphics are very nice though.

I still don't think I will be picking this one up though but that is what makes demo's great!

I work for a B2B publishing company.  I have a kick ass cool job title of "Digital Products Engineer".    As long as the check cashes they could call me a janitor for all I care

Now what I actually do is really a jack of all trades.

I develop web sites and web applications using simple HTML to ASP.  Develop SQL databases to work with the web applications.

Installation packages for software.  Installation ad menu's with Flash.  Graphics for web when needed.

Help cover support on their days off.

And a ton of other crap I am too tired to remember.

Gearing up though to learn VB.NET this year and can't wait.  I have been wanting to learn application programing for a long time.

From what I gathered, they are legit.  Like others, I can't confirm how good they are, but they do charge a lot of money and it seems like they have some good equipment and people there.

However, I'm a believer in getting a more general degree.  Right now I'm working on an Illustration and Animation dual major and all my instructors say not to specialize too deeply.  Job markets shift, especially in entertainment related jobs, so having as many skills as you can along with a specialty is better than.

For example, I know how to animate in 2d and 3d quite well, but since the market is tough for an animator right now, I can easily do some illustration to support myself.

Turtle,

What school are going to for that has majors in Illustration and Animation?

Also thanks everyone for the responses.

Thanks for info.  I am just concerned for her because they are charging around $40,000 for an Assoc. Degree.

When you figure in that and plus the focus is so narrow in the degree it is concerning because of trying to find work.

Then if she ever wanted to go back to school for other stuff the Assoc. Degree is of little help.

Has anyone heard of this school called FullSail?

It's located in Winterpark, FL.

My daughter is very interested in learning computer animation and has her sights set on this school.

I am just trying to find out if this is a scam/crap school or if they are legit.

Graham,

Yea I have the digital phone and all it said was that I need to reset the modem on Feb 1st.

This is suppose to happen on Feb. 1st

Are other services doing the same and will I really see a difference?

I always leave feedback as a buyer but I do wait until I have the item I purchased in hand.

The problem I have right now is that I bought an item and paid right away.  The seller left me good feedback.  I won this on Thursday January 20th.  I made at least 5 requests to the seller to let me know when the item shipped and the tracking number.  I never heard anything back from the seller at all.  I received the item this afternoon.

The shipping was super fast and I did leave very positive feedback.

My only problem is that I wished they would have answered my requests.  I just happen to be home this afternoon for lunch when the item showed up.  If I hadn't been there it would have sat on my front porch until after 6:00 p.m. tonight.

I just think it should be mandatory somehow to let the buyer know when the item was shipped and if there is tracking number.

I went back and watched the end and Claire is no longer preg.  So I am guessing that she had the baby and whoever took her then left her out in the jungle.

I love the show but it's driving me crazy waiting for the next ep.

Great one tonight though.

Is it me or is it that every time someone goes against or pisses off Locke then they have their time in the jungle to make peace or whatever?

Did anyone else pick up on the line from Locke about Syaid (spelling?)  It was something like:

"We will need him on our side..."

This clue tends to lead me to think that there will be a split of two sides good/evil?  coming.

Also how cool is that another polar bear comes back next week!  It was on the previews at the end.

I love this show but get so tired of waiting for the next week    Almost wish I would have waited until the DVD comes out LOL

535  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Flat Screen TV pros/cons on: December 27, 2004, 03:38:00 PM
I would like to throw in a question related to this.  The wife and I are starting to kick around the idea of saving up for new BIG ass screen TV.  The stuff that scares us most is the whole lamp issue.

I have a friend that picked up a big screen and was talking to him but he said that they rarely ever watch it and his wife watches most of her TV in their bedroom on a regular CRT.  This would not be the case in my house.

Between my wife, kids, and myself I would guess that the tv would be on close to 5 or 8 hours per day.  When people are saying that the lamp is only 3000 hours that breakdowns down to basically buying a new lamp around every 12 months.  How much to do these lamps cost and with as much TV as my family watches do we still need to hold off?

Right now we have 36" CRT that is about 4 years old and is still running strong.

Thanks!

My question is do they normally get you a good deal on those?  I mean like 3 months for the price of two or something like that?

If everyone is carrying guns are you saying that we will have no crime what so ever?

Even in current states that allow concealed weapons there is still murder, rapes, thefts and everything else.

I'm not against anyone having guns at all but if your arguement is that everyone should have guns because that is what our fore fathers wanted makes no sense either.  The fore fathers also believed in slaves and that women shouldn't be allowed to vote.

A great medicine you should try is one that Dennis Leary talked about:

"Shut the !@#$ UP"

Which basically means get off your lazy ass and do what needs to be done.

I'm not trying to be an ass but from your post it sounds like to me that you really need to growup and get off your lazy ass.  Your 23 not 12.

I really don't see anything wrong with how your friend acted (besides not keeping better track of his guns). As you can imagine it's vitally important not to lose your guns.

I can imagine no such thing -- I don't see one single word in the Second Amendment about people having to bear arms "responsibly" or "within reason."

Sorry, Wheelman, but I can see you and your liberal anti-gun policies coming from a mile away.  It's all a slippery slope: one minute you want to require gameoverman's friend to keep track of where he left his gun or try to find out who took it, next you'll be trying to imply that people who are going to be wildly irresponsible with their firearms shouldn't be allowed to have any...and then you'll try to ban guns altogether!  Nice try.

If the founding fathers thought it was vitally important that people not misplace or lose their guns, they would have written it into the Bill of Rights.  Therefore, it was clearly their intention was to preserve the right of people to lose track of their firearms.  For you to imply otherwise suggests that you think our founding fathers were dumb and that you hate America.  Why do you hate America so much, Wheelman?

-Autistic Angel

...

?? How in the hell did you come up with that from his statement?  LOL

I would think most people would like to keep good track of their guns because they are normally valuable and also if your gun is lost and then shows up in a crime scene then you get to visit with the cops or whatever.

But from what planet you pulled this out of your ass saying the guy is a liberal anti-gun freak is beyond me.

Yea Best Buy will price match.  You just need to go up to the customer service counter and ask about it.  More than likely though they will call CompUSA to check to see if they have the game in stock.  They won't price match if the game is not in stock at CompUSA.

It's worth a shot.  You might also look at the buying the game from CompUSA's web site.

My biggest let down is Star Wars Battlegrounds.  From what I had read and heard it was Battlefield play with the SW stuff.  This is far from the truth and just a very boring game.

I don't think there is a game I have played more than BF in my life.  Some of the best online playing fun and didn't have the monthly charge scam either.

I am really wondering now though if the sickness the French lady is talking about is really what the new guy introduced tonight has instead hives.

It just seemed to strange that Jack blows it off as hives and then she is talking about some sickness that Robert had.

Also just a theory but I think Alex maybe the one that cracked Sayid over head a couple of episodes ago.

This show really kicks ass though and am really bummed that we have to wait two weeks for the next fix.

Well, at my old age I can't figure if you're being serious here or not..but i'll give you the benefit of the doubt

A torrent is a small piece of a file that lets you connect with others who have the other pieces of that whole file.

It makes for fast downloading, because the more people sharing thier files means more "highway" room.

I was being serious.  I just kept seeing mentions of this lately and instead of just wondering decided to ask.  Thanks for the explaination.
