I cancelled my preorder. Just too many other games to play first. I'll pick it up during the summer sometime.
Post about it a lot so I can play vicariously through this thread.

Yeah, they keep insisting it's phishing and social engineering. But they never say WHO is being phished and engineered. Are people still conning the Microsoft help line?
Anyway, the problem seems to be with Microsoft NOT users.

Neuroshima Hex, on the other hand, I've played for several dozen hours, since the hard AI can still give me a challenge and occasionally win. It also seems to play fairly human-like, with clever combo moves and few "wtf is it thinking" moments.
AI in that game kicks my ass. I'm still working the puzzle spin-off, hoping I'll be a better player when I'm done with it.

Think of it as the Angry Birds of console shooters. It's easily accessible, enough of a household name for the general population to feel comfortable buying it and talking about it, and although it's not the best at anything in its genre, it's good enough for people to not know any better.
I agree with this. It's the Madden of the FPS world. Except it has competition. Sorry. The Madden metaphor fits CoD much better. Massive sales, yearly franchise with few changes year to year and never addressing the fundamental issues.

And I do need to avoid the aforementioned button mashing during combat. I think there's a trick involved, but I'm not getting it yet. It sounds like there are some combos that play off precise timing when pressing the attack buttons, so I don't think the devs intended it to be a complete button masher.
Get the combat upgrade called "Critical Hit", I think it is. It gives you X2 for the combo meter when you time your strikes correctly. As a side effect, it gives you feedback on whether you are timing your strikes optimally.

I don't really understand what's going on here. If people are using your account to download DLC, how are they benefiting from this? Isn't it just your account that gets this stuff? Do they just play with your account until they get caught, and then get left with nothing? And if they transfer ownership of purchases to other accounts somehow, can't Microsoft just identify which accounts are receiving the stuff and lock them?
My understanding is that the DLC for FIFA 12 are like trading card packs with randomized players. These can then be traded to other people. Check ebay for FIFA 12 auctions. I believe that we're seeing so many Live hacks now because FIFA 12 is essentially allowing MS points to be converted into cash. FIFA may not be the source of the breach, but FIFA is what's making Live accounts with attached credit cards a monetizable resource for account hackers.

Looks like someone tried to brute force my Windows Live password. No evidence that they got in though.
Just got the "you've tried to enter the wrong password too many times" message when I tried to log in just now.

<sigh>
Looks like mw3 it is..but I have a feeling this will be the year of the backlash..both with review scores and possibly sales...
BLOPS was my least favorite CoD but the best selling, so I don't know. Apparently, I can't judge these things.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will try again later this evening.
Question. Remember the guy who we saved in the Church before fighting the Gargoyle? Well i ran into him again just below the fireshrine (or whatever) and decided to kill him...... Did I mess up? There was a tip left just before him that said beware of prisoner. I got a ring and something else.

I used a guide to find the merchant in the undead berg too. I would have never thought to look underneath crates and boxes. That guy needs to take a marketing and promotions class.

Got about 40 minutes in last night after all. I'm having trouble getting used to the controls as I played Demon Souls on the PS3. I hope the 360 control scheme grows on me as right now I'm hitting all the wrong buttons. Initial impressions are that this is a new chapter in the Demon Souls franchise...and that's fine by me. The moment I knew this? Same thing happened to me. You need to be fast.

I hit X to attack too, and can't explain why. I roll, then drink when I'm trying to backstab.
Is anyone really surprised that you are a compulsive drinker? Picked this up at lunch today. Never played Demon Souls.

It's funny that Imperials are better at looting than everyone else. Hey, you missed some coins hidden in his socks. No thanks are necessary, it's what I do...finding extra coins. I also speak on behalf of the Emperor, and can notarize documents. Skyrim is racist? Cancelling preorder.

I'm sorry. Pushing buttons really raises my heartrate. Anyone else find moving thumbsticks an exhausting test of endurance?

I enjoyed the campaign in DI far better than GOW3, and I'm only halfway through DI and finished GOW3.
Open world and doing quests if far more satisfying than an 'on-rails, click three things, then click two things, now kill boss then click two things' campaign for me. They also failed to explain something that I was hoping would get explained.
Don't suppose that they explain Kerrigan.. I mean Myrrah.
