681  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / How often do you reinstall Windows? on: December 03, 2004, 12:18:05 AM
I usually re-install one per year.  I'm due, but I'm building a new system so Im holding off until I can do both at the same time.
682  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Make the parades stop... on: November 29, 2004, 08:47:39 PM
Growing up, my cousins lived on the other side of the Rose Parade route.  Since I had to wait until the damn thing was over before I could go play with them I learned to hate parades at a very early age.

684  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Is there an adapter to convert PC speakers to console? on: November 18, 2004, 11:44:57 PM
My Klipsch 4.1s come with an input on the speaker with the volume controls on it.  With a RCA-to-DIN wire you can get stereo through the speakers.
685  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Is there an adapter to convert PC speakers to console? on: November 17, 2004, 10:51:27 PM
But aren't your current speakers 4.1s?  The decoder lists 5.1 and up as a requirement.

The only thing I hate about NewEgg is the fact that I live in it's home state(CA).  Damn you, sales tax!!!

688  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half Life 2 released in Savannah Georgia on: November 11, 2004, 10:59:59 PM
I'm planning on leaving my machine on overnight (and Steam up and running) so hopefully it will do the authentication while I'm either asleep or at work.
689  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / When was the last time you sleepwalked? on: November 09, 2004, 11:08:46 PM
Been sleepwalking all day.  After a huge argument with a friend last night I was so wound up that I couldn't fall asleep until about 45 minutes before the alarm clock went off.  I've been stumbling around in a daze and occasionally will mumble "braaaaains".
690  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So I never played CounterStrike. Feel free to mock me. on: November 02, 2004, 12:47:54 AM
Don't forget to ghost around after you die to watch other people play the game.  You can pick up a lot watching what some of the better people do from different angles.  Also, ghosting around allows you a much easier way to get a feel for how the map is designed.
691  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Kate Hudson. Wow. [56k] on: November 02, 2004, 12:36:03 AM
In my book, she falls under the "cute" category, but not the "beautiful" one.  I see cute girls all the time.  Beautiful women are more rare and Kate just doesn't rate that (IMO).
692  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What dollar value do you put on an hour of entertainment? on: November 02, 2004, 12:30:06 AM

10-15 bucks.

That will get me parking and a good seat at an A's game, with a hotdog and a soda.

$15 gets you all of that?  That barely covers parking at Dodger Stadium.
693  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / AUDIO software recommendations on: October 29, 2004, 11:45:39 PM
I think one of the bazillion tools that came with my Soundblaster Audigy 2zs was a utility to record streaming audio.
694  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Access 2000 on: October 29, 2004, 07:31:22 PM
You should be able to add an IF statement saying to only update a field if the "new" information is NOT null (i.e., it has new data).  I haven't played with Access in a year or so but something to that effect should be possible.
695  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Network/Workgroup Password Help on: October 27, 2004, 09:43:17 PM

696  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Best Cast Ever in a Movie on: October 26, 2004, 11:04:33 PM

I did a little photoshop...what do you think of it without that little back side window on it?

Well, that's the part that makes me think 280-Z (well, I guess the whole back end).  Hmmm....the front looks almost BMW-ish to me too.

It's a strange combination.  But in that color, I like it.

From the side like that it really does look like a BMW, but the shots from the car show make it look more Mustang-ish.

Although slapping a BMW symbol on the hood still wouldn't look too far out of place.
698  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How are the Far Cry mods? on: October 21, 2004, 06:38:59 PM
I think it's the fact that the Source engine has a bigger name so it will be getting the majority of the next cool mods.  Does the Crytek engine support multiplayer?  I've only played the game a little on a friend's computer (mine won't do it justice) and I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the game and the visuals are just plain awesome.  I'd love to have a multiplayer game on one of those islands.

wbs - I'm telling you. Awful! Where else could you see a person run away from 'cold' by giving it a head fake and taking a left while 'cold' went right?

VH couldn't possibly be worse than TDAT, but I'm almost giddy at the thought that it might be.

I think someone should start a thread about The Day After Tomorrow if there isn't already one out there.

It was THE WORST.

I was listening to the radio for a long time this morning on the way into work (thanks rain!) and they were talking about the movie and they played clips of the dialog.  It was so, so bad that now I must rent this!
700  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Counterstrike:Source, is it safe to go in the water? on: October 20, 2004, 06:43:14 PM
I stopped playing CS right before they changed the weapon names, so they're new to me.

I'm delighted they fixed the "%n" problem.  That made playing last night way more enjoyable than it was over the weekend.  My next wishes are for a server browser that ignores non-alphanumeric characters when sorting (ala All Seeing Eye) and a super-armored helmet so I can stop dying by headshot.

Has anybody gotten the "Friends" part of Steam working?  I can add friends but they never show as being on-line, even though one of them is playing down the hall from me.  I end up having to use ASE to find them.

While I'm not that fond of most of their commercials they have made one of my favorites:  Hot chick, mechanical bull, messy burger, "Slow Riiiiide"...

Talking Points Memo
Enough is enough

Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly... thanks for watching us tonight... we are living in treacherous times. That's the subject of this evening's Talking Points Memo.

Just about every famous person I know has been threatened and worked over by somebody. Fame makes you a target... it is something that has to be taken seriously. As I've mentioned before, I have received many threats over the years... everything from death letters to some guy running around the country offering people $25 thousand to sign affidavits accusing me of whatever.

The lawyers here at Fox News have been great in dealing with these situations... although the stuff printed on websites remain almost impossible do deal with. But there comes a time when enough's enough.... and so this morning I had to file a lawsuit against some people who are demanding $60 million, or they will "punish me and Fox News."

$60 million.

In a case like this, you have to fight, even at some risk. These people trying to extort this money from us will lob all kinds of charges, knowing that some in the press who don't like me or Fox News will gleefully pick the stuff up. But in the end the justice system will take care of this situation... I have to believe that, because I am simply not going to allow these people to extort me, or anyone else.

Obviously, I can't get into specifics as the litigation is in motion, but I do respect my audience and feel you should know exactly what's going on. This is the single most evil thing I have ever experienced... and I've seen a lot. But these people picked the wrong guy. They can throw anything they want at me, I'll take it. And in the end... we'll see who's left standing. And that's the memo.

I believe him.

Is requesting an out of court, out of the press settlement of (from what I've seen) a legitimate sexual harrassment claim extortion?  While I find the amount absurd in the extreme, there are claims in her lawsuit that he he didn't refute.  This definitely a "need more information" type of situation.

708  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So where did you go for your Honeymoon? on: October 12, 2004, 09:32:39 PM
We didn't take our honeymoon right away since we were moving out of our place a week after we got married.  We did spend a few days at a REALLY nice hotel in town and then later on in the year we went to Germany (and a few surrounding countries) for three weeks.
709  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Microsoft .Net question(log in) on: October 12, 2004, 08:45:53 PM
Actually, the user name is probably "Owner" since that is the name on the button you are clicking.  If there is no password then leave that field empty (using the TweakUI fix).
710  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / MSN Homepage is borked. on: October 12, 2004, 06:06:44 PM

If you get the Powertoys for Windows XP from Microsoft, one of the features in TweakUI is to have the computer automotically log in as specific user.

GB,

'Guilty Pleasures' by L.K. Hamilton is one of the Anita Blake novels, right?  Has she given up on the idea of Blake being a worker with the undead and just writing goth porn now?  I really liked the first several novels but they've become little more than a background to Anita getting her rocks off in different combinations of participants.
