It goes to show that bad things happen to good people. I think it means that the kid has been some kind of curse on the family. I saw all of the "Omen" movies. I'd start checking his scalp for three little sixes. (I kid, I kid. I can't imagine what it must be like for him right now. )

Ok, seriously - what is a graphic novel? Is that what we are calling comic books so it doesn't sound like the owner lives in his parents basement? That's it, I'm gonna smack ya..... A graphic novel is a larger, magazine-size format in trade paperback form, usually a self-contained story as opposed to serialized monthly installment. There, consider yourself enlightened But I have all the original V for Vendetta comic books. Explain that, Foo'!! :?

Just my opinion, but I think this current season resembles the first alot more than it does the second. Mostly in that even the outrageous stuff still is based on the relationships between the characters. Whereas I felt the last season was driven mostly by plot developments totally independent of that. Agreed. The character interactions this season are much better (IMO) than last. This show is the only one that I *must* watch every week. I can go a whole week without talking to her, but every Tuesday I'll get a call from my friend making sure I'll be over her house to watch.

Kisses on the lips have been somewhat slow in coming... I think we only did that once last night, if at all. That's an extremely troubling sign for me, of course, it might not be a 'sign' at all but rather her personality/comfortability. It could be a sign that you had too many onions or too much garlic in your dinner too.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / NBA players upset over new dress code

My favorite quote comes from this article on Yahoo. While the league may be trying to present a better image to its corporate partners, some of its players fear that they may lose out on the core fan base.
``We don't really sell to big business,'' Suns guard Raja Bell said. ``We sell to kids and people who are into the NBA hip-hop world. They may be marketing to the wrong people with this.'' Hey Raja, take a look around at the people paying for those pricey tickets. Corporations buy the suites and people with huge amounts of extra cash (ie, not kids) are buying your season tickets. Big business owns your ass.

I've been to the last two Kings games and I have to say I love the new emphasis on actually calling penalties by the refs. It cuts down on a lot of the chippy bullshit that happens on the ice. The loss of the red line makes me happy too since it opens up the ice and creates some fairly exciting plays.

Here's a related article : http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2181671and from that : Team functions would include team flights, traveling to and from games and at public appearances. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported the dress code would be backed up by NBA fines. Doesn't sound like they have much to complain about. I'd hate it if I had to wear nice clothes on long plane rides. I always go with what's most comfortable. Then gain, if I got paid millions of dollars to bounce a ball, I'd probably ride the plane naked. It's not like these guys are riding coach. A suit (sans jacket) isn't all that uncomfortable to sit in for a while in first class (or on a charter flight).

I'd be far more interested in finding out how much Singer's movie is going to cost minus all of the development hell portion. I bet that would lop at least $100 million off the budget. That's, um ... that's exactly what I was getting at. He he, sorry if I didn't get the words out right. And damn, didn't know that Nick Cage had a 20 mil pay or play contract as well. Christ. What genius ever allowed anyone to put such a contract under Cage's hands to sign? *Head to keyboard* The same "genius" that thought Nic Cage would have made a good Superman to begin with. *joins in the head-to-keyboard action*

I've never heard of Arthur Treacher's or Yankee Doodle Dandy. There are Jack-in-the-Box aplenty out here in California.
What about In-n-Out Burger? or Fatburger? I could make a post, but I'd just be repeating all of that. Actually I take it back, I think I might have eaten at an Arthur Treacher's a couple of times. There was some Fish n' Chips place near where I lived for a few months more than a decade ago. I don't remember the name, but it was obviously a chain and it wasn't a Long John Silver's. It was very likely an Arthur Treacher's. I too am now hungry, and my brother flaked on lunch plans, so I've got to come up with something to eat now. How about H. Salt Fish & Chips? They used to be everywhere when I was a kid but they've all but disappeared. I found one not too far away from my house a couple months ago and was overjoyed.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Help! My monitor gives me eyestrain and headaches!
|

Another great thing that people forget about is the refresh rate. Set it as high as your monitor will support-it really helps the eyes. Okay, I fianlly have to admit it - I've never really known what this means - or at least, it seems fairly obvious, but how would it affect your eyes to have a low refresh rate? :? I also don't really understand dark matter... Dark matter will require someone else to explain, but I can help with the refresh rate question. The refresh rate of a monitor equals how many times the screen re-draws itself each second. For some people, the default 60Hz works just fine. I find that at 60Hz the screen appears to flicker, giving me headaches. My home machine is set for 100Hz and I don't have a problem.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / What if WoW was not made by Blizzard?

I had a big long argument all thought out, but it boiled down to this: if just having a name was enough then Star Wars Galaxies would be the number one game.
Blizzard has a track record of quality products and has justly earned their rewards. I feel that WoW is a continuation of that trend.

I'm on Silvermoon Are you playing a Horde or Alliance character? I'm on Silvermoon as well. If you're Alliance, look me up some night under this name. I'm playing Alliance (43rd level Paladin) and I know I've seen you on but that was a while back. I'm usually on most nights but I'm going through the effort of installing all my new hardware tonight so I doubt I'll be on until this weekend. Good hunting!

Dammit. My new computer parts came in today so that means I won't get a full night of WoW goodness in before tomorrow's day off. I may be a nervous twitching ball by Friday.

Aww, just play it. You know you want to. Heck, all of us are playing it, else we wouldn't be here talking about it.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true! searching.... searching... Dammit. I will install it.... later. I guess. I don't wanna waste my free month on time I won't be able to play. next week (early) is most likely as I'm off all next week. As to my playing style, I really did enjoy the level of escape that FFXI offered, and since you were forced to party it only made sense that linkshell people got to know each other. I wish I could still get in contact with some of my old FFXI buddies and link up with em on WoW If you have the CE then just use the buddy key to try it out for 10 days. If you don't like it you can always sell the game after (just make sure you let the buyer know they 10-day key has been used). If you don't like it, I'll buy the game. I really wanted all the goodies that came with it but couldn't find it anywhere.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How much time do you solo vs. group in WoW?
|
on: December 29, 2004, 01:05:00 AM

|
I solo most of the time and group only when facing an ugly instance or the Elite quests. My main character is a 36th level paladin and as long as I pay attention to what's around me I solo very well. I have two RL friends that play the game and they are usually on at the same times I am. Now that we're all around the same level we'll play together and do some of the harder quests. Often times we'll come across someone trying to solo the same quest and invite them in.

I have no idea what the model of the PSU is, it came with a Lite-On case (model WT-6402). Well I've mostly finished building the PC, and went to test it. But I found the PSU to lack a switch (you know, the big 0/+ switch that you flip to turn the PSU on). How do I turn it on? I tried just plugging the cord in, but got a complete dead PC. Absolutely nothing happened, the PSU doesn't even turn on.
Is there a different method that some PSU's use to turn them on? Or something? Or is the PSU DOA? PSUs without their own on/off switch are controlled by the motherboard. One of the small wires coming from the front panel of the case should be marked "power" and attached to the motherboard (read the manual).

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Best WoW solo class

No offense, but making a Hunter who goes Melee is like making a Warrior who uses a dagger as his main weapon. Yes, it can be done, but your class isn't designed to work that way. Hey, don't be hating on the dagger-wielding Warriors!!! My housemate (30th lvl Warrior) uses two daggers and has a very good reason: they attack insanely fast and build up the Rage very quickly. I was skeptical at first, but after watching him in fights I have to say I'm a believer. It also helps to have two rare daggers that do plenty of damage.

I agree that there are some great folks playing the game. I was running from one place to another one night and saw a low level character run right into the midst of a group of gnolls which proceeded to attack him. I sat back and watched the fight, offering heals and buffs (I'm a paladin) until he had killed them all so he'd get the experience. He's played way more than I have and now offers me help when I need it. His assist while I was doing my lvl 20 paladin quest was invaluable.
He's offered me a spot in his guild, but I'm holding out until I can get dental. ;-)
