they're estimating $175 million in the US for this weekend, and about the same from international showings, to put it close to $700 million worldwide.
So $175m domestic plus ~$175m foreign is supposed to equal $700m?

That Eller hit... man, Diaz owes him about fifty "I'm sorry" fruit baskets for even attempting that pass.
I can't for the life of me understand why Gryba is scheduled for a hearing...that was a clean hit. A report on SB Nation says Gryba is getting a two game suspension. F' that. I haven't seen any angle on that play that shows me Gryba did anything wrong. His jersey's not in the top 200 in sales on NHL.com, and he was on the news. That's basically what he did wrong. Maybe if we all buy a "Free Gryba" jersey they'll change their minds.

People's exhibit No 438936091 in the case "Today's music has gone downhill" vs "These kids today"
too bad they didn't include the names on the list on the left. would have made it easier to round them up for that new rocket to the sun trip.
You actually take that "infographic" seriously? Comparing a pop song to a rock symphony? You'd get the same extreme difference in writing quality if you took an 80s pop song and compared it to a modern rock symphony too, but in the other direction. It's a very clear case of apples vs oranges. Would it make you feel better if they compared it to Billie Jean? It doesn't get pop-ier than the King of Pop, right? One writer (Michael), two producers (of which Michael was one).

It took them forever to agree on the N standard, so long that there was a bunch of Pre-N equipment released by manufacturers that got tired of waiting for the governing board to get its head out and make a ruling. I wouldn't expect anything soon from them.

Is it possible to film a fight scene without slo mo in this day and age? Or is it something we just have to learn to accept as the only way it's done now? It's that or shaky-cam. I'll take the slomo.

Is that flash of light to the left of the stadium a generator blowing up?
It's from Candlestick from last year against the Steelers. I believe 2 generators blew up that night. More importantly, we beat the Steelers that night So based on all that data, the Niners lost last night because only half the lights went out. They need to fire the coach of their electrical team!

C'mon guys. We can all get along here. Harpua3 has to admit that Cleveland isn't in the Northeast U.S. and everyone else has to admit that Cleveland is in the northeast part of Ohio. Deal?

I'll light up if I have trouble sleeping. A few hits (and a cookie) and I'm out like a light. I started smoking weed about ten years ago and I was already in my 30s at that point. I used to go out a couple nights per week drinking but weed supplanted that. No hangover, no jackholes to put up with at the bar, cheaper by a long shot, and FOOD.TASTES.SO.F'ING.AWESOME!!

While I think the Maps app is a pretty big disappointment, I'm very impressed with how fast it is when moving the map around. Google didn't seem to cache their map tiles at all, causing the occasional "black hole" because the program was having a problem loading that tile (even at home on wifi). Apple maps (maybe due to carrying less data) is responsive as can be when scrolling. Either way, I tend to use Waze more than either program because the traffic reporting is much more accurate (thank you fellow commuters!)

This is so weird how this all went down. Even if the USADA did have loads of evidence, I wouldn't think they would have the authority to do anything except make a recommendation to the Tour de France officials. I thought the USADA's "jurisdiction" was over US olympic athletes, not professional venues like the Tour de France.
this. Tour de France should just tell the USADA(ssholes) to fuck off. It's a conspiracy by Lance: 1) He lets the USADA make their outrageous statements declaring they'll strip him of his titles. 2) The French, even though they're aching to do the same, are contrary cusses and aren't going to let the Americans tell them what to do. They declare him a national hero and raise a statue to him at the top of the highest point of the course. 3) Profit!!

Hope you're feeling a little better.
Curious - what is the purpose of going in through the front vs. the back?
Neural pathway? "Well, we typically go through the back of the neck to repair this and downtime is about two weeks, but you remind me of this obnoxious Eagles fan I ran into at a bar last season so this what I'm gonna do..." Glad the doc says everything went well, Pete. Kick the s**t out of rehab!

If the box office really turns out disappointing, I suspect the studio will be less inclined to back a sequel unless the budget's lower. No way near being close to dissapointing at the box office. As of July 5th it's grossed almost $290 million worldwide - intial production budget was $130 million. With it more than doubling it's costs in 1 month, I'd say the studios would be more than happy to have Scott make another. Production is only part of the equation. I'm curious what they spent on marketing it around the world.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Talk me off of the ledge, thinking of buying a Macbook Pro
|

You can not upgrade anything after you buy it. The RAM is soldiered in place and the SSD is proprietary. The batteries are not replaceable. http://ifixit.org/2763/the-new-macbook-pro-unfixable-unhackable-untenable/That said, you can just use bootcamp to install Windows 7. Then you can shrink the MacOSX partition to it's smallest size and boot into Windows 7 at all times. I'm fairly certain once you get Windows 7 installed you can actually remove OSX entirely. There's nothing that says because you have Mac hardware you must use MacOSX... Based on my experience, you lose major battery life using Windows on a MBP. The MBP has two "video cards" in it: the high-wattage third-party card (Nvidia or ATI, depending on your model) and the low-wattage Intel built into the CPU. OSX will intelligently use the Intel video for all your usual desktop 2D needs and only kick in the third-party card when needed for games and such, saving you a lot of battery life. However, either through the fault of Windows itself or the Bootcamp drivers created by Apple, the Windows side only uses the third-party card and will drain your battery much faster than OSX. I have a mid-2010 MBP and I do use Bootcamp for a Win7 install, but I tend to keep the power cord handy if I need to be in there for a lengthy period of time (usually gaming). When I first got the thing I expected to be in Windows all the time, but after seeing the battery issues I started getting more familiar with the OSX side and I've been pleased with it. The touchpad also works better on the OSX side (it can be kind of jumpy in Windows).

If you'd look at the attendance figures gellar linked to at ESPN, you'll discover that the reason Kings fans aren't watching the game on TV is because we're at the Staples Center watching them live, as opposed to Devils fans and their measly 87.4 attendance rate.
