1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Path of Exile public stress test this weekend on: May 11, 2012, 12:26:31 PM
Head's up for those of you interested in arpg's who can't wait for next tuesday.  Path of Exile is having an open public stress test this weekend.
The sixth class (shadow, an int-dex build) will be playable.  They're ramping up for the open beta, which is tentatively scheduled for June.

(For those of you not familiar with Path of Exile, it's a free to play Diablo 2 clone.)

Oh, and linkage:

I just randomly chose a server - Eredon's Terrace.  It had low population this afternoon.

Yeah, I stayed far away from this after having purchased D3: Renaissance.  It had beautiful unit designs, that oil painting type effect for the graphics engine that was nice...but terribly slooooooow gameplay.  Missions took forever to play through, and were comprised of killing the same units dozens of times over and over again.  Also had the campaign missions...and then one skirmish map at release, and then wasn't supported AT ALL after that.  As much as I LOVED d2, I kinda figured that I'm done with the series as D3:Ren was sooooo bad.

ok, the lightning spear in Sen's fortress is just SICK.  I see what some people were talking about this thing being overpowered.
10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/10) on: October 11, 2011, 12:45:00 AM
Forza 4

Want to get Homm6, but gaming overload and Dark Souls are making me wait.
OH, and 'Michael Phelps:Push the Limit"!  I'm gonna "Push The Limit"...whatever the hell that means.  Someone greenlighted this game?  Why do you do, hold X to swim?  Some things weren't meant to be the sole focus of a game: swimming is probably really high on that list.  (And yes, make whatever jokes about 'really high' and Phelps that you want)

Peterock, I was waiting for when I heard people start saying that (about the team being bad until Al died).  That team turned it around last year.  Al was alive when they went .500, and started moving back to being a winning team.  As bad as his decisions on personnel have been, the guy wanted to put a winning team on the field (unlike the Mccaskey's with Da Bears); he just was wrong with what it was going to take to win in the modern NFL.

And sad to hear about Napier.  "You're gonna look pretty funny tryin' to eat corn on the cob with no f$%*ing' teeth!!!"  All time classic line.

OK, was loving this game, but blighttown has me on the verge of ragequitting.  Jeebus, From Software, would it kill you to playtest the thing so the fucking camera doesn't kill me?  and the slodowns in Blighttown suck horrendously.  I don't mind my many deaths because a boss bisected me with a weapon larger than the house I live in, but dieing because a crappy camera can't handle a bunch of wooden structures is just plain bad programming.  I'm keenly aware in blighttown that it's not the difficulty that's a problem, it's the tediousness.  (And the perma-respawning flies that don't drop any souls/items?  Just a dumb idea.  That is the point at which you went from 'difficult' to 'tedious')

I'm pretty confused with some of the game mechanics.  Not sure what to do in the campaign editor.

Which part of the Campaing HQ did you want to know about?
When you first enter, you see all your characters are standing on a grid.  During combat, characters attacking will have an increased probability of combo-attacking with characters who are adjacent to them in the HQ.  Also, you will get the ability early on to place structures in your HQ - these structures will increase the benefits to the characters who fall within their influence.  The biggest meat of the Campaign HQ is the Senate.  In the Senate (third option down on the HQ menu) is where you can add new characters, introduce bills etc.

For those of you new to this game, the single best things to know:
1) Save.  Save repeatedly.  Save before you do a new story mission, save before you head into the item world, save when you get back from the item world.  Trust me - their will be unpleasant surprises that will happen.
2) Get familiar with the Item World.  The bonuses for clearing a map are NOT tied to the enemy difficulty, but to the Item.  A Imperial Seal that is at Level 15 will still have far poorer rewards than a Level 1 Dark Rosary, even though the enemies are tougher in the Seal.  When you are starting to explore an item of a higher Tier than what you have, always pass the Senate Bill to increase the bonus gauge.
2a) Make sure you have a Moth as one of your creatures for the item world.  Flying creatures can fly through enemies in the item world, and thus are invaluable.  Pass the "rosenqueen Souvenir Shop" bill ASAP, and experiment with placement to check what items are for sale (the items on sale will change depending on where you place the shop).  Once you get shoes (slippers, cross trainers, ninja tabi, etc) put three pairs of shoes on the Moth.  That moth is your designated 'get to the gate' character for item worlds.  If you paid attention, Warriors have the farthest standard throwing range until you unlock Steel Knights.  Always have one of them on hand to toss the moth in the direction of the gate.  I actually keep a couple on hand, in case I need to toss a 'gate clearer' closer as well.  For standard levelling of an item (where you are not intending to get the bonuses), it's far more easy to simply zoom though each 9 levels to get to the Tenth level (which has the Mini-boss and free 'return to base' option.)

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Disgaea 4 on: September 11, 2011, 01:34:14 AM
I was going to start this thread myself. if no one else did.  In Chapter 5 right now, and as always it good to see how they integrated the standard features with new ones.  And, if anyone sees my map (Jakesmiley) in the Map rotation, be kind and give me a 5 star rating. smile  I NEED the CP (trying to save up the 40000 cp needed for "mana+50%" geo panels).  I'll happily five star and forum members map that I see.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Impressions and stuff! [Official Review too!] on: September 04, 2011, 09:11:57 PM
I give up.  The more I play this game, the less fun it gets.  A glitched quest where someone magically spawns in an inaccesible location?  (and many people have posted on this on the forums)  And the 'fix' is to load an earlier save?  Screw you, get better at programming you pieces of crap.  Then, I get to the first boss with my stealth/hacking build...

...and a cutscene leaves me in the middle of a large room with a tank unloading on me with a minigun, who has no health bar or anything to tell me how bad he is hurt.  My choices are (1) play gears of war with him, apparently, or ...(2) play Gears of War with him.  Guys(Eidos Montreal): If I'm focusing on stealth, I DON'T CARE that you added a cover system from GoW.  The final straw came when I chucked an EMP grenade at him, circle around behind him while he's stunned, and he chucks a grenade...which despise me despite him facing away from me, comes out of his hands directly at me despite the fact I'm at his 7.  Game Over (by which I mean, not that I died, but Im done playing a game designed by people who apparently failed the portion of Game Design 101 that dealt with Boss battles).

It was only today that I read about the announcement and details from last week.

An Auction House that functions on actual money (and therefore, will only make the gold farming worse)?
No single player? (And yes, if I have to hook up to your server to play, that's no single player.

This just went from my most expected sequel ever to...'Why, GodAllahBuddhaCthulu, Why?'

Fuck Blizzard.

How do we NOT have a modern space dogfighter in the current gen?

27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Heroes of Might & Magic VI "announced" on: June 17, 2011, 11:12:30 PM
I have bought every incarnation and release of Homm since the first one.  I bought Homm 3 at least a couple times, and I still have Armageddon's blade and Shadow of Death around here somewhere.  I even pre-ordered Homm 5 knowing it was a crap-shoot in terms of quality.

I...I will not buy Homm 6 if the 'you have to be connected to our server to save your single player game' feature is still intact.  Fuck. You. Ubisoft.  I will never buy another GFWL title, and I wont buy any title that shares that 'feature'.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dawn of War 3 on: June 17, 2011, 10:46:22 PM
Crap! Im in the same boat as Caine.  I have the final mission for DOW2 (I like how it gives you the notice before you play it that playing it will end the campaign), and I purchase dboth Chaos rising and reribution.  I am going to have to finish this someday...

(and then I will finish Starcraft 2, just before the zerg expansion comes out...)

Can someone explain to me how Jamarcus Rusell was forgotten so quickly?  Cam Newton has had one productive year at College (Div 1).  He passed for a total of 50 yards in D1 before this year.  I'm just.confused.  One productive year (and Tim Tebow had three years at equal or BETTER production), and MULTIPLE issues...and people are completely convinced he's going to be a great pro QB, why?
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Brink - now with more video on: April 26, 2011, 11:13:24 PM
Looking awesome.  Pre-ordered for x360.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Prey 2 on: April 18, 2011, 11:22:24 PM
Um, Ok, so the major point of the original design document of the first Prey game was the portal system.  They decided to dump it.  So...why did they decide to make this Prey 2?  This has pretty much nothing in common, other than being a FPS.  I didn't think Prey 2 sold well enough to merit any worth as a brand name.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rage on: April 18, 2011, 11:17:52 PM
Well, I liked what I saw in that video.  The monster spawns seemed much more organic (realistic) this time around, as opposed to the spawning in and monster closets of Doom3.  ALso, the final firefight where some of the creatures came over the shack instead of down the corridor didn't seem pre-arranged, like they finally started making situational AI (which was absent in Doom3).  (you could also see this in the first firefight as that big guy stepped over the concrete barrier.)  Is it perfect?  No.  But it's already looking like a better shooter than Doom3.
37  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (04/18) on: April 18, 2011, 11:01:32 PM

Wow: either finish getting Nauls to 85 or more leveling my DK

Backlog Assault:
see if I can grind out the finish of Resistance 2.  Seriously, Imsoniac: just make another Jak game already.  Resistance 2 has taught me you shouldn't be making fps'.

you know, I never did finish Gears of War either...
