1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: DC universe Reboot/Relaunch on: August 28, 2013, 12:37:51 AM

Quote from: Fireball1244 on August 26, 2013, 03:47:18 AM

The New 52 has kinda lost me. I like the Superman stories, but I don't care about them like I did during the post-Crisis continuity. I hate what they've done to Tim Drake.

It's weird to realize how attached I am to the versions of the DC characters I grew up with. All these books with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, but they're not *my* Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman, so I kinda just don't care.

I've basically stopped reading everything but the Green Lantern books. And even with them, I'm just exhausted by the endless stream of End-of-the-universe-is-at-hand crises.

I almost wrote something just like this, but ultimately didn't want to come across as bashing the topic. I gave the New 52 a chance, but have dropped almost everything DC. The apparent editorial mandates, last minute changes and creative differences with writers/artists I enjoy made getting invested in any of their new continuity futile - since they'll just change things in a couple months. Plus, I kind of liked all the history of the characters I grew up with all those years ago. Now, none of it happened. /shrug

(And I almost didn't post this again. Sorry. Hope others are enjoying the titles. Sales seem to suggest yes.)

I hit <<next>> thinking it went to the next page, and had the same confusion... I'm suspecting it took me (and others) to the next thread? /shrug

In any case, I've been using Spotify pretty exclusively at home and work. Can't believe I got the app installed at work, but for wahtever reason, it's functional. Some of the radio stations have been surprisingly good. Haven't tried Pandora in awhile, but might fire it up to see how it's doing these days.

I need my mlb thread so I can cry about Harvey. OMG I hate sports frown

I saw that and thought of the MLB thread too. That sucks. But hey - at least you got some results out of Harvey this season before the injury. We got nothing out of Dylan Bundy before he went down. (Of course he'll be back sooner, I guess). Bleh.

Crucial stretch for the Os. Boston, then NY, then Cleveland. And doesn't get much better after that...
4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Revolution on: August 25, 2013, 09:06:43 PM
This was a series that sat on my DVR for months, well into the summer when I had plenty of free time. I guess the "good news" for the show is that I did get around to watching the whole first season and it was ok. The not so great news, is I watched while multitasking (surfing, gaming, etc.). I didn't care enough about what was going on to give it my undivided attention. Hope the second season gets off to a good start, or I suspect I'll drift away. Interesting finale, now that i think back... I'm more interested in the premise/larger scale story than the characters. We'll see where it goes.

I definitely have the PS3 issues too. Was glad to hear it wasn't my old, somewhat-flaky console. Disappointed that the save file corrupted. Not as disappointed as the kids that they couldn't keep playing.

6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Might & Magic X being teased on: August 19, 2013, 09:58:08 AM
I might buy early to get the "exclusive dungeon" and DLC included, but won't be playing it now. Also not bothering with the digital deluxe boxed uplay whatever special. Glad to hear those that played at Gencon enjoyed it.

Oh, at Walmart they also have the 3-Packs of Characters for $14.96 each! Incredible deal! smile

The playsets there are also only 19.96. Target still has the better deal on those, but still it is a $15 discount over Gamestop.

Wow - thanks for that Hetz. I knew about the Target playset deal, and picked up Cars there, but that's great on the characters. Now my kids can play together in all of the included playsets, after buying the sidekick pack. I went and picked up the villain one too; couldn't resist it at that price.

8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Might & Magic X being teased on: August 17, 2013, 08:48:25 PM
I was frustrated about not finding any info about buying it, on uplay or elsewhere. I'm not really interested in early access, though it did mention an exclusive dungeon. I might regret missing that. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

I saw the first couple episodes and was entertained enough to have the DVR tape it. I don't make an appointment to watch it Sunday, but I've kept up watching it during the down times of the week. Not fantastic television, but decent. Light summer fare, I guess? /shrug

11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeons of Dredmor on: July 09, 2011, 10:43:35 PM

I've been waiting for this one. I forget where I heard about it first. But anyway, between my fondness for roguelikes and the cheap price, I'll definitely be getting it on release. Can't wait.

turns out this is just a new Spider-Man title.

Yeah, I read about this. It's pushing Spider-Man as adventuring in the big old Marvel universe. Doesn't he do that enough in Avengers and FF? (And guest-spots like Heroes for Hire and such)... I'm definitely passing. I enjoy what the writer's doing in Amazing, but this sounds like fluff.

I'm not sure how I feel about the DC reboot. They had a lot of meandering titles going, but to ditch everything and start fresh - I don't know.

Haven't kept up with Batman as of late. Wasn't a Morrison fan, and the other titles just seemed to keep rolling on. All tales of the Batman, but nothing of much import happening. Maybe that changes?
14  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wizardry Online on: June 14, 2011, 01:05:27 PM
Yeah, I'm not sure how that permadeath is going to work. I mean, if I lost a character I'd been nurturing for weeks (or whatever) because of lag, or boneheaded tactics of a party member, I'd be pretty peeved.

Bunnies were the first creature I saw. Didn't realize they were new.

Haven't really gotten into this yet, as the interface is a little awkward at the moment. That plus slimes showing up constantly, and my not having auto-pause set to "on" as I tried to figure out what I was doing. Expecting my next attempt should go a little better.

But hey, it was only $10 and with patches still coming out adding new "stuff", I'm pretty sure I'll get my money's worth.
17  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Ends 30 Day Price Guarantee on: September 02, 2008, 10:58:56 PM

Hmmm... I agree it's unfortunate. Though I've never used it for any of my many Amazon purchases either. Doesn't make much of a difference to me.

18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MLB Power Pros 2008 on: August 07, 2008, 03:55:08 PM
I picked this up last week and I love it. I wasn't sure if I would, considering the reviews that said it was so similar to last year. But MLB Life mode, (and this year's version of Success mode), are entertaining enough for me. I've taken a SS through Success mode and and starting his second year in MLB Life. When I get tired of that, I play a game or two of Season mode, with my Success guy imported into fantasy drafted team. I also want to run a pitcher through Success mode eventually too....and I haven't even unlocked any of the stadiums/uniforms/etc. yet.

Biggest difference I like about MLB Life as compared Road to the Show is that good performance allows you increased playing time. In last year's RttS, I had a couple guys who were doing great and yet I was stilled benched arbitrarily. Maybe they fixed that but it definitely turned me off to it. I'll probably try the Show again when I pick up a PS3, and since that's not anytime soon, hopefully there's be a new version, or it'll be on sale.  icon_biggrin

19  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Vanguard - free month for inactive accounts on: July 18, 2008, 01:55:47 PM

I got fed up with the crafting (big surprise there), diplomacy is still worthless (and probably always will be) and lost interest in the questing/adventuring. Plus my old characters were a different server than everyone else, and I wasn't thrilled with the new character I made on the GT server. Bottom line is that I'm out for now, but it was nice visiting. I could always come back in the future.

20  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 100 Pushups - 6 week program. Who's in? on: July 18, 2008, 01:43:11 PM
I just finished week 1, and with comfortable margins, though I was surprised at the fact I could feel it in my shoulders after the first day. (Not so much after the 2nd, and just completed the 3rd so...). I was going to post on the tracker, but didn't feel like wrangling with code, so I'm just using my own spreadsheet. Easy so far, but I see what's up ahead, so I know it's going to ramp up pretty severely. Add to the fact that I want to jog/run on a couple of my off days each week and I should be in for a pretty good workout.  thumbsup

22  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [Vanguard]how to get in touch with each other on Seradon on: June 30, 2008, 12:26:51 PM

I know a lot of the OO contingent played on Xeth, as that's where my original characters are these days.

That said, I might try an alt on Seradon (since I was going to try and alt today anyway).  icon_biggrin

23  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Vanguard - free month for inactive accounts on: June 30, 2008, 12:25:20 PM

I actually enjoyed a lot about Vanguard when I played it long ago, but the technical issues were too much hassle, and then everybody left the game. Because of the free month, and the new computer to play it on, I tried again, and am enjoying it. Whether you feel it's "empty" or not is up for interpretation, but there does seem to be a lot of people on trying the game again.

I figure I'll play it this month, see whether I want to continue afterward. The biggest issue for me will be the conflict between solo-able content and the areas where you need to be grouped. If there still is a point where you pretty much can't do anything without grouping, I'll probably be out again. Fun while it lasts though.

24  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Firefox 3 is released! on: June 18, 2008, 05:05:53 AM

25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Summon Night : Twin Age Impressions on: June 17, 2008, 05:03:13 PM

Full-stylus control? Ouch - that doesn't bode well for me. I know it's the main DS draw, but I'm not usually a fan. I have one of the older Summon Night games in my backlog, & will probably tackle that first. If I'm overwhelmed by the fun, maybe I'll look into picking this up too.
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (6/16) on: June 17, 2008, 05:00:01 PM

Definitely getting Etrian Odyssey 2 sometime, but probably not anytime soon due to severe DS backlog.

I've got OOTP on pre-order, so I'll get that this week. Otherwise, older games and EQ2.

27  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Return to Everquest 2 on: June 16, 2008, 01:29:31 AM

I'm still playing on Oasis. The Wizard is up to 71, while a couple alts are in the 30s. Been crafting recently though.

I'm REALLY hoping there's more "middle" zones in the next expansion. Or another character slot. I need another alt.  icon_biggrin

There are still about 6-8 of OOers who play on Oasis. We're very casual, but competent. You're always welcome there if you want company.

Thanks, Zimix.

I did a bit of a research about it and found that you could buy the game (a physical box) for $19.99 from a local EB Games (or Gamestop) store, it's currently not available in their online store.

Or you could buy a digital version from for $29.99 and download it (~17GB). I am not sure why the digital version is so much (50%) more expensive, considering there is no merchandise involved other than bandwidth. I don't think I am going to download it for $30 (or for $40 from SOE).

I was actually doing some other shopping and stumbled across the Vanguard Collector's Edition being sold by J&R Music and Computer World via for $12.97 (probably plus shipping). If anyone was thinking of checking the game out again, it might be a cheap option for someone.
30  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 75 bucks on: June 01, 2008, 03:29:41 PM

Stations around here are trying their best to not be the first in the area to charge $4 or more - after years of various price differences, they're all hovering right at $3.99 at the moment. Incredible....

My little kiddie-car Yaris used to cost about $25 to fill.. now we're about up to $35. /shrug Not much I can do.
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl Impressions on: May 28, 2008, 10:52:51 PM

Couldn't get into it, though granted, my multi-player experience with it has been limited, and I know that's the best part. That said, I love unlockables, and haven't even bothered to go about it - just not holding my interest. Might be playing it some this weekend with a college friend. Maybe it'll change my mind a bit.

32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Trackmania Nations/United Forever on: May 20, 2008, 12:54:19 AM

I hadn't played this either, and picked it up from Steam. It's great fun and the best part for me is you can play for short bursts of time. I can catch my brother online and race a few tracks very easily. Huge variety of tracks and just a great balance between challenge and fun.

34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: OOTP 9 - Who's in? on: April 29, 2008, 02:12:31 AM

I'm on the fence about it.... back in the old, old days, I played this a ton just single player. Got into a league (or two for awhile?) and that was fun. Then had to drop because of real life demands, and haven't gotten back into it much. Have a version sitting right here on the laptop but can't remember the last time I played it.

OOTP9 looks fun from what I've seen but I'm not sure I'll get enough play to make it worth the purchase.
