1721  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Buy a 360 HD-DVD player, get Heroes Season 1 Free! on: October 19, 2007, 08:57:29 PM
Plus there is some debate about maybe getting another 2 movies free instantly with it...
1722  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Zune 30GB for $99 on: October 17, 2007, 11:44:42 PM
My wife and I ordered one from woot on the 15th so hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week
1723  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Is it safe to buy a 360 now? on: October 14, 2007, 01:05:55 PM
I say, safe? Not entirely. Worth it absolutely. As for Elite, only if you expect to be storing/downloading a lot of non-game stuff.
1724  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: New hdmi 360 with 5 games for $399 on: October 13, 2007, 01:42:28 PM
Yeah, it says sold out. Too bad, I would have bought and flipped the stuff I didn't want too for such a good deal.

But look at the rest of those companies... all of them used to be the most innovative and interesting companies... now most of their IPs have been discontinued

Different game.

What's the pricing going to be?
1728  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Finding Halo 3 on: September 29, 2007, 07:04:57 PM
Huh. Dunno. I know Circuit City and Gamestop by my house were both sold out. Guess I had bad luck.
1729  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Finding Halo 3 on: September 29, 2007, 04:58:48 PM
For anyone who hasn't gotten it yet, I know most of the major stores by me were sold out. Places that do have it around me are Radio Shack and Blockbuster.
1730  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: IGN gives Eternal Sonata an 8.3 on: September 16, 2007, 01:27:17 PM
It's got an 80 at metacritic right now with 10 reviews. So doing about the same as blue dragon there, but with less at the very high end and none below 70.

1731  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 12, 2007, 03:34:29 AM
Yeah, but you can learn to ignore both the boss music and marumaru... plus, they are very "anime", so it somewhat fits the style.
1732  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 11, 2007, 03:35:06 AM
I did most of the side-quests, but didn't go back to places to find treasures I couldn't access earlier. And didn't do a few things such as finding the dragons. Plus I don't think I spent as much time leveling up as most people.
1733  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 10, 2007, 08:31:39 PM
Hehe, congrats on the many achievements... glad to know it would have taken me over 30 more hours to get them though... makes me feel ok about not doing so.
1734  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 10, 2007, 12:56:08 AM
Finished it! Had a good time... I'll give more thoughts later through. Just wanted to let you know that I did manage to finish with about 90 achievement points... You don't even get any for beating the game :-p. Despite that I enjoyed it though. Not sure I have the drive to load a save point and play another 20 hours with no real point other than to try to get some of the achievements. In the end I think my characters were in the low 50s for level and I had about 43 hours (+ a couple from redos). Overall I'd give it a 8.0 or so. Enjoyed it, and I played through, but I wasn't blown away.

Um, I think it took me about 24-25 hours to get to disc 3 maybe? I'll have to see if I have a save back further for a better number.
1739  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 04, 2007, 10:53:41 PM
I'm a fair way into the 3rd disc now and still enjoying it. Not quite sure what I'm supposed to do right now except that there are a bunch of new places to go and things to fight so I'll just work on them I guess. Now it is open-ended and traveling is trivial across the larger map, though the on-location minimap is still poor. I think I may be underpowered, but it hasn't been a problem except one random boss that came up recently (and that I can ignore for the time being). My guys are upper 30s right now I think.
1740  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying in September? on: September 03, 2007, 12:34:08 AM
Eternal Sonata and maybe Halo 3. Probably grab Stranglehold someday, but maybe after a price drop.
1741  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 02, 2007, 07:47:12 PM
Hmm, I have a bad feeling I'm going to play all the way through and end up with maybe 200 achievement points if that... Apparently I'm not doing that great on the secret achievements right now either after skimming it. Still having fun, but that annoys me :-p.
1742  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBLA] Streets of Rage 2 on: September 02, 2007, 01:49:32 PM
I remember playing this many a time on a friend's genesis. I will definitely pick it up one of these days.
1743  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: September 02, 2007, 04:34:05 AM
I'm just into the start of the second disc and I'm definitely enjoying it. Glad it has picked up a bit in terms of plot and I like having more characters in my party. I agree it is still too easy, but then again I can get annoyed if non-boss battles are killing me in other games too. Script isn't amazing, but still fun enough to keep me going.
1744  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stranglehold on: September 01, 2007, 04:02:38 AM
Although they did think the singler-player was fun enough to play multiple times.
1745  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: August 29, 2007, 10:06:23 PM
I'm enjoying it so far (only about 1 1/2 hours in).  Fairly standard JRPG fare, but decent cutscenes and I like the style. Agree on it being easy so far though.
1746  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Amazon - Xbox 360 HD DVD + 9 FREE Movies on: August 28, 2007, 09:09:14 PM
Wow, I might do it... even though I don't need the player. The player and hd-dvds are selling for a lot on ebay, so you can probably do this, keep 4 movies, and get your money back with the rest.
1747  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Blue Dragon Getting Some Poor Reviews on: August 28, 2007, 09:07:36 PM
Best Buy and Circuit city both say it will be in tomorrow, so I'll hopefully grab it then.
1748  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Any Blue Dragon Deals? on: August 27, 2007, 03:13:18 AM
Anyone know if there are any special sales this week for it?

These deals online only or in store too?
1750  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox 360 HD DVD Player on: August 25, 2007, 03:15:06 PM
Yeah, it has a couple usb slots on the back, so you can plug in the adapter, GH cords, etc into it.

1751  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (8/20) on: August 21, 2007, 01:52:54 AM
Nothing. Like Lockdown I'll probably try to pick up Bioshock used down the road.
1752  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Genres You Used To Love, But No Longer Do on: August 21, 2007, 01:43:16 AM
RTS games would be my #1. I played so much Dune II, Warcraft, Warcraft 2, Starcraft, C&C Red Alert, AoE, etc back in the day... but I haven't really gotten into one in a long time. Enjoyed Dawn of War and Company of Heroes for a while but they didn't last for me. I think I just burned out, but Starcraft 2 will be the real test smile.

FPS - For some reason I don't have the patience and stamina for these much anymore. Story is always too little and it requires me to be too focused all the time, especially with console controls.  I still like some multiplayer action, but single player rarely holds me for long in the genre.
1753  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds. anyone on board? on: August 18, 2007, 04:53:26 PM
Yeah, I'm on the review fence.  We'll see. Definitely not ruling it out though.
1754  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Babylon 5 for $19.99 a season! on: August 13, 2007, 02:05:20 AM
Hmm, I'm currently re-watching at my friend's house already... but so cheap... and he'd be so jealous compared to what he paid... must resist

If I buy it it'll definitely be hd-dvd. The video commentary where they show how they shot scenes would be awesome.
1757  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Viva Pinata question on: July 29, 2007, 09:49:21 PM
Once you play a bit more you'll find it easier to handle.  For one you'll know what you're doing and what you want to collect/grow, secondly you'll probably start limiting your pinatas to some degree.  By controlling the kinds you can get rid of fights and things that add to the distraction. Same with totems that stop the bad red creatures from coming.
1758  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / HD-DVD player for Xbox 360 - lower price, 5 free movies on: July 27, 2007, 07:47:42 PM
If you haven't heard, the price is being dropped by $20 and it will come with 5 free movies (from a list of 15).

Movies are listed here:
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/hddvd/data/pdf/Toshiba_Online_Rebate_R08.pdf

If anyone has been on the fence, this is a great deal. $180 or whatever for the player + 5 hd-dvd movies.

1759  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Blue Dragon demo up! on: July 27, 2007, 07:42:31 PM
I was also a litle dissapointed in the demo, but I'm still planning to buy it. I think it is hard to get into an RPG demo in random dungeons when you don't know about or care about the storyline...
1760  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Vote for my Brother's Band by Friday on: July 26, 2007, 09:06:23 PM
Hey guys, while the video they have on Fox's site isn't a great performance, my brother's Band (Juniper Lane) is in the running to get an audition in front of the American Idol producers for their new show "Great American Band".  They need to win this poll on Fox45 in Baltimore's site though.  (one entry per IP address) to get the guaranteed audition.

Also, for those in the DC area... they're having their newCD release party at the 9:30 club on Saturday August 18th.
