50 seconds early, but congrats Habs.

edit: Ouch, a 5th goal with 6 seconds left.  That's not very sportsmanlike.

Pronger - What the hell?  Take a cross-sticking penalty with less than 2 mintues in the game, 2 goals down and your goalie out of the net?  How stupid!  Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Yeah, but there was a LOT of pent up frustration in that series.  I am honestly surprised that there wasn't a fight before it was all over.

Quite true, but a team captain can't take a stupid penalty like that when your back is against the wall like that.  I would have given them maybe a 10% chance to score two goals (and that's generous) with the extra attacker in place of the goalie, but his penalty dropped their chances to less that 1%.  He should have waited then decked everyone when it was really over.  But, Pronger is not a good leader, or so it appears.

Good point. They video says that translation has been adapted to convey meaning.  So, I don't know which translation is really better: is one more literal or is the other really more true to the intention of the song?

Both are condescension and both stances deter rational discussion.  It has nothing to do with hurt feelings and everything to do with killing discourse entirely.  Being neither liberal or conservative, the minute either party tries to shove their belief into my head I'm more likely to shut it out completely rather than contemplate the merits of what I am being told.

In other words, everybody resents it when they are spoken down to.

That's gotta be the most intelligent post I've read in this whole thread.

I just picked up the Panasonic KG-TG6313 set last night to replace my old Uniden set.  I like Uniden but the batteries just won't hold a charge anymore.  Anyway, I got the cheap Panasonic models (as I only intended to buy a battery) but they are DECT 6.0.  I just started using them this morning and I'm sitting next to the Wirelss laptop chatting on the speakerphone and everythign is clear as a bell.  No static and no wirless issues.  I've only got 10 minutes of experience so far - but it has been a good ten minutes.

Me too.  I usually start out as Portugal or Castille and build colonies after getting the Quest for the New World national idea.  I can do that, but my rankings in the game plummet like crazy.

I think arnir is actually thinking of the save game bug in Deus Vult.
Exactly!  I knew it was one of the Paradox games.  I used to play DV a lot but haven't lately.
It just seemed like my nation was far less powerful after loading than before saving, but I think that was because I wasn't really paying attention.  I was going to check the OO thread to see if it was EU before I spent much time on it and then OO went adios.
Thanks for the responses, folks.

Good luck and thanks, Rip.  I think for a lot of people it was surprising just how fragile the internet can be - at least it was for me.  Don't think that many of us don't appreciate your efforts, but keep in mind that it is hard to do so if there is little communication about what is happening.  Get some rest.

It doesn't have to be an either/or choice, but some folks only use one community or the other for whatever reasons.  If members didn't feel a difference then one board would fit all and we wouldn't have different communities.  I can't honestly say why I ended up at OO, but I imagine it was because I'm a PC gamer.  But for some folks, the differences are important.  Of course, no one is forced to go anywhere they don't want to go.
944  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EU III Query - Save game issue? (now strategy requests as well) on: April 18, 2008, 04:07:29 AM
Can someone remind me if there is a bug with EUIII and loading save games?  I think there was a thread about this on OO before it crashed.  I just got Napoleon's Ambition and have gone back to playing EUIII and it looks to me like my games are messed up after loading.  I surfed the Paradox boards but they are such a mess when trying to find anything that isn't discussed in the last day or so.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The octopus is never off your back.  You might not see it, you might not feel it, but it is there.

I think the OO community will come back minus a few folks when the site is restored.  GT is a great place but I don't think that GT should make any changes for the OO refugees.  GT is GT and the folks that make GT their home should not have to change anything.  If I was a native GTer I would not want to change my home for others, especially if I had left OO for GT.

I do think that we OOers will need to try to help out more with making sure there are backups and info, etc.  I'm not sure what most of us can do to help realistically, but it is kind of amazing to realize just how little many of us actually know/knew about the behind the scenes of OO.  I appreciate all Rip has done, but it appears that the community was on a thinner shoestring than I ever realized.

From NHL.com

Monday, the League made sure it would not happen again as  Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell issued a statement about the League’s position.

It is considered an interpretation of Rule 75, concerning goaltender interference.

"An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty (Rule 75) will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender's face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play."

I just saw on Versus that the NHL has stated that Avery's antics are now against the rules.  Something along the lines of deliberately facing a goalie and waving hands and sticks to distract the goalie is now considered interference.  I don't remember the rule number that was quoted.
