A description for those of us not in the know?

Turn based WWI aerial combat akin to Wings of War.

The free part seems very cool, so I bit on buying the campaigns. Buying the aces, not sure if I care enough.

Their moneymaking scheme seems very decent and not offensive. The first 8 missions are free (demo), the rest of the first campaign is a buck ($1 to buy the app), then there's three more campaigns (DLC), ace pilots (bonus DLC), and then some absurd and optional ways to pay a buck to speed up gameplay (we won't say no to your money, in-app-purchase addicts!)

Thanks.
Look's worth a look.

I don't have a problem with Kriv executing the sentence, but does it possibly look more like a vendetta than justice?  I'm good either way.

"Slaves are welcomed in many places.  The Prepotency is one of those places.  We all were welcome as long as we were compliant. Subservient.  Useful.  We are a proud people.  We are proud of our independence.  We are respectful of our equals.  We have enemies.  We have opponents.  But we have respect.  We have rules.  We struggle - we strive.  But we do not enslave tribes.  We do not exterminate things that are not evil.  But we do fight evil.  We do remove evil.  The Prepotency is evil.  Their leaders are evil.  Their actions are evil.  The fact that the Legate did not mean it personally does not make it less evil.  It makes it even more evil.  No hate.  No passion.  Just indifference.  Just evil."

Bilon, without any information about what has gone on in Cratertown since our departure, doesn't have any suggestions.

Tell her Bilon says, "hi, there."

Would Bilon like to say it himself via a Sending ritual?  Then he could also summon her to Scaleport.   Last Bilon heard, she was still at Crater Town with the rest of the Crows and the Mist noncombatants.

Bilon is game.

Studies of Disney films, especially when Walt himself was still at the helm, are pretty clear that maturation and control are at the center of many of these films. Walt had a bad childhood with a control freak father.  His art quite often has the themes of kids dealing with bad things and coming out victorious.  Disney films stress a way to overcome evil and danger, they aren't about the lack of danger.  He wanted kids to know that they could stand up and win if they were true and steadfast.  (We can argue what that means).

I grew up with Bambi and Old Yeller, etc.  Good won in the end, but there were scars and scares along the way.  Drama and triumph demands it.

Also, how much XP is that total?

Never seen a sort by Agony feature before.  Hmmm.

19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 19, 2013, 12:57:22 AM
I'm not into shooters, so the majority of the list of free offerings don't do anything for me.

Have they made any progress fixing the horrific pathfinding and silly grab first sink issues?
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 19, 2013, 12:25:20 AM
I'm surprised that in the fine print (at least I didn't see it) there isn't a clause saying that accepting the game offer holds EA harmless in any future actions, etc., regarding SimCity and its alleged broken state etc.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 15, 2013, 11:16:10 PM
I would think that any given traveller should have a random chance of taking a less than optimal route (whatever that might be).  Some folks like big streets, some hate intersections without lights, etc.  People don't just all do the same thing.  Some randomness is necessary.  (In addition to a pathfinding routine that actually makes sense in the real world).

and then dump the servers and shut the game down.

I was willing to wait for the servers to get fixed, but the game just seems broken.  It doesn't live up to the hype and seems to be as simplistic in its pathfinding, etc. as the original game.  Maybe even more so.  I don't feel like I'm making a city/town any more, I feel like I'm just fighting a poorly designed search engine.  (Find house distance N.  If full, n+1, etc.)

I thought the review was good, if a bit kind.  Even with server issues fixed, the pathfinding bugs, etc. are still deadly.

IIRC, I read on another board that players were recommended that streets be laid out in a Z configuration to make the pathfinding routines work better.  Is there something wrong when we are supposed to lay out cities to work for their algorithms.  I'm thinking of booting up Cities XL and, what is it, Cities in Motion?

Yea, I probably was a bit more kind than I needed to be.  I wanted to be very careful not to fall into the trap that some of my fellow press have and simply make a scathing bloodbath of a review.  I think a lot of the stuff I pointed out is fixable.....

I agree.  Going into harpy mode reduces credibility.

One tool I wish I had was a "future" zoning tool.  For example, I place a streetcar shed.  I don't build it, but I stamp the city so that a perfect little hole waits for it.  Nothing can expand into it, etc.  I know I could sort of do that by being careful, etc.  Funny.

I'm really interested in seeing where this goes, I personally would love to see the whole MMO genre turned on its ear.

So would I, but in what way will this do that?  Genuine question - no snark.
32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 11, 2013, 12:44:33 AM
I agree.  What's the point of having buses that simply go in a circle on one block.  Either the personal AI is brain dead, the transit AI is brand dead or the graphics don't really reflect what the vehicles and people are really doing (which is a selling point of this version).  What you see is what you get.

I'm also disappointed in having to have specialized colleges to build certain buildings.  You have to build a university.  Then build that particular school. Then wait for the item to be researched.  You almost need a college only town to do that - so once more you have to rely on county (region) neighbors, etc.  This game is reminding me of all the stuff I hate about MMOs.
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 10, 2013, 08:33:19 PM
tcwweidner,
Thanks.  When I got in I had probably lost less than a half of an hour of the city.

Sigh.  Server available.  Click.  Server busy so wait 20 minutes.  But the server is available not busy.  Yes, available.  So, click.  Server busy.  Wait 20 minutes.
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 10, 2013, 02:38:30 AM
Yes, EA is essentially forcing everyone into a multiplayer experience - solo or not.  One of my solo regions just let me go to a second city site.  It seems to be all scripted to some extent.

Still can't get back on to see how my city is.  Or if it still is.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 10, 2013, 02:14:30 AM
I was just told that my city was broken.  I was taken to the menu and given the option to abandon or roll back.  Hit roll back and city wouldn't reload.  So I'm trying again.

On a different note, I followed one of my buses.  It just kept going around in a circle on the same street.  U turn after U turn.  Something isn't right.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 10, 2013, 12:16:26 AM
I'm seeing the problem for me.  I've filled up the city and don't know what to do know.  I wasn't good with mining etc.  Don't really know what to do now.

Something Special for Your Trouble

The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets.  The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game.  But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.

And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio.  On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy.  But we feel bad about what happened.  We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.

I think I'll wait to see what the potential games are before I kiss and make up.

Can I get an invite to the North American West 1 server GT region?

Sorry I did get the invite but then the server failed so I think I may have lost the previous invite. frown

I tried to invite you but it won't let me, so I'm thinking it is still out there somewhere.

If the demand is there, I am happy to start a second region on the same server and make it for GT.
