Josiah works feverishly on the device, sweat beading on his brow with the impending destruction of the ship...

(5 success, 3 failure, 2 advantage, 1 threat)

Josiah will get out his toolkit and investigate the secondary system, and see if it can be unbolted and disconnected.  Josiah will try and determine if this is some sort of tracking beacon, or a nav system override.
43  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - Forum RPG on: September 13, 2013, 12:08:19 PM
Despite logic dictating that he should retreat back to his own ship, Josiah enters the cockpit to investigate the flashing light.
44  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - Forum RPG on: September 13, 2013, 01:04:26 AM
Quickly glancing into the cockpit, Josiah makes sure there are no more surprises..."Let's go, before we all get shredded to pieces!"

Josiah quickly rushes to the aid of Tho and works at getting the door open.

"Coming as fast as I can Tho, this decaying orbit isn't exactly making it easy.  We have two, maybe three, minutes before this ship is torn to shreds along with us."

Josiah rummages around in his toolkit to find a spanner to use on the door controls.  With tool in hand, Josiah rushes towards the cockpit.
47  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - Forum RPG on: September 10, 2013, 02:37:58 AM
Josiah braces himself as he feels the ship beginning to pitch...

(1 Success, 1 Failure, 2 advantage, 1 threat).

"Tho, we gotta get out of here now!  If we wait much longer our ship is going to be shredded by the acidic atmosphere and we won't be able to escape the gravitational pull."

Josiah reaches out to try and give Tho a hand.

So they have reduced prices in Voyager Direct thankfully.  I am not so sure what to think about the 20 million stretch goal...FPS combat on some lawless systems.

Well... They do have all these nice ship interiors and places to walk around in, it'd be quite fun to have some first-person shooting when boarding a vehicle as a pirate for instance...

Very true, and I suppose Cryengine is quite good at handling FPS combat.  I just don't want the space portion to get watered down.

Hey guys - long story short, we hear you. The VD store ended up coming across pretty much exactly the opposite way we wanted. We're working out a plan right now to make this right and I will have more for you as soon as possible.

Glad to see they are listening...honestly I have been very impressed with the level of community interaction, and the openness of development from RSI.

$17 million.

BTW....the microtransactions have begun.  icon_mad   $20 for the fucking golf cart.

The credits we received in our packages are basically worthless.  1,000 UEC = $1 real life.

It is funny, I too am a bit shocked at the prices...which is amazing considering how much I have spent already.  All of these items will be available in game without paying real money for them...not that I want to wait.

Quote from: Chris Roberts
Ultimately all items in the store today and in game will be purchasable via UEC earned in game.

I do think they need to lower the prices a bit...the buggy is 2/3rds the cost of an Aurora.  More importantly the high prices are going to prevent widescale testing.  They need to give folks temp credits and lower prices for testing, and then do a wipe.

I am sadly still waiting for my physical goods from the kickstarter.

Have they said any ETA on that, Arkon? I know those who got the physical book is the reason of the delay (or so I thought I read). Is there anything past that?

If they have, I haven't seen it.  Last I had heard was that the stuff was supposed to ship beginning of August.

Tomorrow is the launch of the very first alpha, which is the hangar module.  The hangar module has all of the original pledge ships (I believe, although I am pretty sure there is no Cutlass yet) and it allows you to walk around the ships in game, board the ships and even sit in the cockpits etc...Also functional is the holographic interface for outfitting ships.  This December should see the release of the dogfighting alpha, but I am not sure of the schedule beyond that.

They aren't separate releases from what I understand. The plan is supposedly for the alpha (which starts as the hangar module on its own) to get a major update every 2 months from now, with the first one being the dogfighting update.

Perhaps releases was a poor choice of words on my part. Perhaps I should have said stages.

So can someone run down the latest on this for someone who hasn't been following this?

Is there a beta out yet for people to be buying these ships for? If not, when will they have some sort of playable release?

Has the vision changed any bit since the original kickstarter?

It is very tough to say if any bit of the vision has changed since the kickstarter as while they are being very open during development, we can't see everything that goes on and every decision made, but I would say that in general the vision has not changed.

As Josiah approaches the docking collar he will set the wookie down and instruct the crew member that is with me to get the wookie on board.

"I am going to go help Tho, we gotta get out of here fast!"

I haven't been reading the thread. Would you recommend?

The game is short, took me about 12-15 hours to beat, but I really enjoyed the ride, and am looking forward to the mods that get released.  I would certainly recommend it.

Found an interesting little tidbit in a gamespot video: I swear at around the 1:36 mark Chris Roberts said that yesterday (I assume that was this past weekend) that they were flying the ships around!  If so they are really making good progress.

Is it confirmed that all purchasable ships will be available as long as you've actually purchased them, or is it just a limited selection? The mail they wrote was a little unclear.

I believe the official wording is that all pledge ships and revealed variants will be available, meaning the ships that were part of a base package.  So for example there is no pledge package with a starfarer...that is only available as an add-on so it will not be in.  So off the top of my head it will be:

  • Aurora and it's variants
  • 300i and it's variants
  • Hornet
  • Freelancer
  • Constellation

"We gotta get a move on, I hope Tho is ok and waiting for us at the docking collar."

How did that get on television?!  I guess the CW doesn't care anymore.  They know no one is watching that network.

It was certainly a bit gross, but really not that bad until they got to the drill going up through the gums.  I loved Ryan and Heather's reactions.

Josiah, shaken up a bit, and with his ears still ringing from the explosion, gets up and starts to run back towards the docking collar with the droids control and memory circuitry in hand.  Looking at the crew with him:  "Grab anything you can that is light enough to carry, we gotta get off this boat!  I am gonna check on Tho."

Josiah then turns and sprints toward the droid , thinking back to his time hacking droids on Balmorra, hoping to be able to disable this droid quickly.

If I was social, they likely would.  I don't smoke and can't stand to be around it, and I don't drink and can't stand to be around alcohol.  Honestly I find that because I don't use facebook and the like to be even more of a social hindrance.

In 1977, 12,007 males were named Justin.

My wife and I did a much better job of picking rare names for our daughters.

2007, only 176 girls were named Annaliese
2009, only 30 girls were named Liesl

Without waiting for a response, Josiah cautiously enters the cargo hold.

I can't say it is one of the best RPGs of all time, but it is perhaps the one that engaged me emotionally the most of any game before, and just about any game since due to this sequence, obviously a spoiler for those who have not played the game.

I have to disagree about the saving.  I just put about two hours into the game and the save system is atrocious.  Given how much time is spent investigating or talking to people, if you have to shut your game off unexpectedly plan to spend a long time replaying content.

An example of this come from pretty early on in what I assume will be a main base/hub for the game.  The time between entering the Seamstress Union and leaving was almost 30 minutes.  There are about 5 different people within the building that you have to talk to including shop keepers and even a little bit of investigation.  If I had had to stop mid play though and go through all of that again I would have been pretty pissed off.

That said everything else about the game is exactly what I wanted and is quite wonderful, itís just a shame they blundered on such a basic level.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but if you had to redo conversations wouldn't it be faster the second go because you already have read the dialog?
