The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.  Hands down my all time favorite book series.

I really enjoyed playing 4th Edition, however at higher levels, combat bogged down too much.  I am looking forward to D&D Next, and still have a soft spot for the older editions.

I still have all of my 2nd edition books I believe, and have a group of friends considering starting up a 2nd edition campaign.

I would wager a very large portion of the population still watches live TV.  While I DVR some things, I watch most stuff live.

Kriv will try to scan the face of the Legate, to try and sense if this is one last gasp of trickery.

With good timing, Straight No Chaser just released a new album, in which they collaborated with some incredible artists.  The list includes Sara Bareilles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Dolly Parton and a few others!

There are some new technologies that allow one to see movies in their own home!  They call it Home-O-Vision. slywink

If you're not a movie fan, I don't know if you'd like this one, but you may want to at least check out the soundtrack.

One should be careful if they say Home-O-Vision too quickly....

I will have to check out the soundtrack, as yeah I am not a big movie fan anymore.

Edit: And I just listened to a bit of the soundtrack, wow that was not very good, not to mention I don't think I could listen to 90% of it with my kids around.

I used to fairly regularly listen to the same college radio a capella show that Ironrod mentioned, "All A Cappella."  It sounds like you would enjoy it if you checked it out. Looks like they have an online stream: http://wers.org/

Have you seen Pitch Perfect?

I have not seen Pitch Perfect, it is very rare for me to watch a movie these days.  I don't think I have been to a movie theater in the last 8 or 9 years.

The Walk of Shame is an example of the type of a cappella I like. Hard to find decent youtube recordings of these songs.

I didn't care for the lyrics, but the harmonies were very good.

I like a cappella quite a lot. I used to make a point of tuning into a college radio station's a cappella show every Saturday afternoon, but it didn't take me long to get my fill of their repertoire -- too many college groups covering show tunes and pop songs. I guess that's probably what their audiences want, but I soon found that I was only enjoying about 1 song out of every 5 or 6 they play.

It's hard to find good youtube versions of my favorites, such as "Galileo." I do like this version of "Wanting Memories," though.

Thank you very much for linking to that Ironrod, that is really good.  I am really looking forward to Street Corner Symphony's next album, as it is all original music, no covers supposedly.  I also really like some of the older a cappella such as Jerry Lawson and The Persuasions, who really was the group that started "mainstream" a cappella.

I was a huge fan of The Sing Off, and am very disappointed NBC didn't bring it back.  As such I have kept following a few of the bands who were on the show and recently saw that Street Corner Symphony released a video, and I must say it is really good.

Any other fans of acappella out there?

When Grenus claims that we would have been welcome, Kriv will stand up and look at him sternly...

"We would have been welcome you say...would I have been welcome...would Misa been welcome?  No I was not welcome, and in fact I was taken to your city with a spike driven through my throat, bound in chains to be sent to the penance...and what is the penance?  It is nothing more than slavery!

As for his arm, if I had not removed the arm, the legate would not be here alive today.  The Dracolich he tried to control was escaping, and tearing the legate to pieces in the process.  Removing his arm was an act of mercy."

I should note, I got a pretty good deal for it from Costco, it was only $219 if I remember correctly.  My whole intention in buying a monitor was to get a monitor to use with my work laptop since I work from a home office, but Costco didn't sell anything smaller than a 23" in store, so I figured what the heck, went big and replaced my main desktop monitor.

I am starting to get used to the size of it, and it doesn't feel so weird now.

Now I need to figure out why when the ambient temperature in my house gets above 70, and I try playing games like Guild Wars 2 or Neverwinter, one of my fans goes nuts...I think it is the CPU fan but not sure.

what kind of monitor did you get?  I'm thinking of buying a 27" monitor over the summer but I'm debating whether or not it's worth it to pay big bucks for the ones that do 2560 x 1440 since I've heard that 1920x1080 doesn't look all that great from about 2 feet away.

Looking at the box, it is listed as a Samsung Series 3, S27B350H.  I am running it at 1920x1080, and while I am taking a bit of time to adjust jumping to such a larger screen, everything is very crisp and vibrant.  I played a bit of Borderlands 2 and it looked great.

You might unlock a few new features (refresh rate, additional resolutions, etc.) if you install the software, but typically it's not required per se.   Speaking of refresh - that tends to mess with my eyes if the refresh is low.  Might check that.   Otherwise it's probably just you adjusting to something that more completely fills your field of view I'd guess.

My refresh options are 50, 59 and 60hz, so it is set to 60.  I am also not used to such a high resolution.  Now I need to find a beautiful desktop background and find a way to get rid of desktop icons while still having them be easy to access.

So I just went from a 19" to a 27" and boy does it feel odd.  I pushed the monitor back to the wall, so it is about 2 feet from me, and it is just an odd feeling having such a huge monitor.  This thing is bigger than the TV I had in college.

My eyes are having a bit of trouble adjusting to this thing, am I not far enough away?

Also is there any point in "installing" the software the monitor came with?  It is a Samsung, not sure the model.

It should likely also be pointed out that for years now, the Legate was conquering foes via a weapon that had a dracolich bound inside.  His hunger and thirst for power led him to enslave the dracolich instead of destroying it.

So wow there are some really bad quests on the Foundry.

I just did one, something along the line of "The Queen of Whispers"...First there were two doorways that if you turned in to them, you fell through the world and died.  I can forgive that, perhaps the tool is a bit finicky in building the map.  But otherwise it was like the author just went through and found monsters he thought were cool, and put them in a linear path of hallways to fight through.  Why exactly were there kobolds, intellect devourers, mind flayers, werewolves and bandits all in the same area, it just made no sense at all.

The Legate is to be tried as a war criminal.

For Kriv, the most pressing charge is that of "dragonocide".

The legate and the Prepotency would have you believe that the Penance is some sort of justice, but in the end an untold number of dragonborn have been tortured via the insertion of a vile spike into their throats, Kriv shows the scars of where his spike once resided. From what we have been able to deduce, there is no outcome to the penance other than death or being enslaved to the dark dwarves, which the Prepotency has some sort of alliance with.

In addition, the Legate is directly responsible for executing the last remaining member of the Black Fangs (I think that was their name) tribe.  The method of execution was to force feed grain to the mighty warrior until his stomach burst and then he was stuffed into a chest and left at the gates of Scaleport.

Next, while it occurred before Kriv came to be with the party, there are the crimes that were committed against the Crows, simply for the tribes choice of not joining the Prepotency.  The Crows wished to simply live in peace as a nomadic tribe, and that reality was shattered by the Prepotency.

Lastly, from my understanding, the Prepotency has harshly enslaved via the threat of extreme violence, the Shardmind.

I am sure there are countless other crimes, but these are what are most pressing in Kriv's mind.

These movies are so bad that they are good.  The fun thing is they totally play up the over the top style to the point of absurdity.  One of the best parts of Expendables 2 was the appearance of Chuck Norris.  It was so insanely over the top it was hilarious.  Throwing in a classic Chuck Norris joke was the icing on the cake.  If you want realistic action and a finely weaved plot, then look elsewhere.  If you enjoy cheesy B movie action with plot holes you can drive a tank through, this is for you.

Agreed, I got to watch Expendables 2 on my flight to France, and it made the flight rather enjoyable.  Had a blast watching it, and catching all the references to 80's flicks.

I am more than willing to admit I block ads.  They are intrusive, can be a security risk, can be offensive and overall just hinder my enjoyment of a site.  If I enjoy a site, I will find ways to support it, as I have in the past by donating a decent sum of money to Gaming Trend, or subscribing like I recently did to Roll20.net.

I also know that I am not your target audience, I do not read the front page as I no longer read gaming "news" or reviews.  I come to Gaming Trend for the forums, and the friendship, although to be honest I find I visit less and less as time goes by.  In the end Ron and company, you need to do, what you need to do.
