That kind of thing is why I don't have Wii.  I'd probably play it a bunch for a week or two... and then wouldn't touch it again for months.  Much like my gamecube which has spnet more time at other people's houses than in mine.

I've always known I'm a die-hard PC guy. But man, the forum effect on console gaming is strong. I think I would have been better served just up-grading my PC...which needs it badly I might add..

Sounds like you guys luv your console gaming. Its been 6 weeks or so since I got my first console(360) and to tell the truth I haven't touched it in over a week. I think for me its the selection of games that are available. I don't really like online play other than MMORPG's so that knocks a chunk of the fun-factor off.

And 360 seems to be shooter intensive on the title selection. I have no desire for some of the more, umm how should I put this, cutesy games...IE: Viva Pinata, etc...

I bought a 27 HD TV just for the box and purchased a few games I read were good...Can't help feeling I made a bad choice.
I am fairly excited about Assasin's Creed, and Mass Effect...but other than that......meh...

I'm waitting for my wife to realize I'm not playing the thing. Man, do I have some splainin to do then... paranoid

2206  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: PTR Patch Notes 2.1.0 for WoW on: April 16, 2007, 08:54:15 PM
This is the problem of having a PvP system built around a PvE centric game. The only "true" balancing can only come by giving each character a twin. One can only play in PvP thus having certain skills and abilities..The other can only play PvE...etc..

How else can you have balance when the two parts of your game you're trying to achieve perfect chi with are diametrically opposed to each other?
2207  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO on: April 16, 2007, 04:11:01 PM
Played the beta, me no likey.....I know MMORPG's basically follow the same path...But LoTRO is too much like WoW for me to want to start subscribing to it.

And I've said it before its not because I don't absolutely love Tolkien and his works. I can list things that I liked and didn't like but in the end it just didn't have that certain something that makes you want to keep logging in...or, you find yourself thinking about it while doing stuff in real life.

Yawn, plain, lifeless, dull, are all words I would use to describe how I felt about the actually in-game world of LoTRO.

So are they ever going to show some real freaking gameplay or what?  Everyone is drooling over this damn game and I have yet to see how it actually plays.

They have shown gameplay.  *shrug*  What were you looking for specifically?  They've shown the tactical battle system, dialog system, planetary system, etc.

It looks too much tactical shooter and too little RPG for my tastes.  I'll still be there day one, but I'm not quite as drool as everyone else yet.

Was thinking the same thing....I hope we're wrong. I'd much prefer it to be RPG heavy and shooter light......Too many shooters already for the 360.

Yep, I was expecting him to grow wings and start kicking machine ass all by himself.

Of course, I'm happy to take orders from Goliath, he'd rip my throat out if I disobeyed.

Oh and I just have to repeat this, Mass Effect has so many similarities to Star Wars.  That's not a bad thing though.

Spectres = Jedi
Mass Effect = The Force
Plenty of Humanoids.
Hot Twileks-like aliens.

But what Mass Effect does over Star Wars so well is that it strips out a lot of the baggage and immaturity of the subject matter.  There's no light and dark side, just people trying to get things done.  More intersting politics, more places to visit instead of relying on the same 10 planets.  Mass Effect becomes less spiritual and more just a physics phenomena.  The focus goes back to the grunts on the ground, rather than people fighting with light swords in space.

Sounds good to me..........Well worded.

I really can't understand the lack of character customization in any game being released into the MMORPG genre.

When I tested Lotro I couldn't believe how "generic" all the models were...Like someone said, look to have a ton of brothers and sisters running around.

Really though, how hard would it be to code in more choices at the "character-build" screen?
Not very I wager.
But man does it go along way toward adding to the gaming experience..especially at the beginning.

I have fun with good games in single play mode.....but usually if the game has a multi aspect to it, once I get online with the game I see how bad I am.......Which is fine. I know my gaming limitations. Its why I like MMORPG's so much. Its not twitch or button mashing.......Its not steady hands aiming.......all of which I'm not that good at. Its not that I'm not co-ordinated either.

I was always sports minded, combat trained military, could always handle myself in bar-brawl, but games.........well thats a different story.

Gimme a great MMORPG, with a good group.....I'm in gaming heaven.

Funny stuff LD...Good on ya for trying though. It might be easier if you role-played a guy first...Seeing as you are one.........you are one right?

Role playing(I'm a Lite Role player) is just talking and acting as YOU think your character would act. After all if you were to strike up a conversation with someone in real life at a bus stop you wouldn't think to yourself..."Wow, he didn't respond right to that question"....You would just accept him\her at face value...

I honestly don't think a person in Middle-Earth would say things like......Ah the Shire...A most magnificant place to be sure...

Sounds like if you haven't tried them, the following might (no guarantees!) appeal to you:

Oblivion - yeah, obvious, but just saying...
Dead Rising
Test Drive Unlimited - the whole island of Oahu is available for you to explore at will, goof around with other players via Live who are free-roaming like yourself, or do more traditional race-type challenges; it really appeals to the explorer in me)
Viva Pinata - Not exploring in the sense of looking around for hidden places, but in the sense of trying various things to see what works in your garden. Maybe you want to try for high garden value, or aesthetic pleasure, or the biggest pinata variety, whatever you want to do, give it a shot

Off the top of my head, these are the games I own that sound like they might appeal to you for the same reasons they do to me: the explorer mentality. icon_smile

So far I've felt let down by my 360 experience. Granted this is my first console, so it could have gone either way...

Shooters that are all about shooting bore me......maybe thats the problem........as soon as I see the word shooter in a game's description I should pass it by.

I love to ponder things in a game.......much more as I age........rapidly I might add... crybaby

Shooters don't give me time to ponder or really enjoy the "ambiance" of the setting.....

The rest of the thread bedamned, I am not so much not a console gamer, but I realized that I don't quite fit into the 360's target. I am, however, holding onto the system to play Blue Dragon, Bioshock, Assasin, Too Human, and maybe Mass Effect. Otherwise I see the games on Wii being more to my taste, and even the PS3 looks to have a little more of what I want, or at least going in the directions I want with things like Little Big Planet and Uncharted coming out. For the most part there is too much 3rd party dreck throughout the year in general and I would love it if the publishers would actually, you know, make better games all around... Just me though.

'and maybe mass effect'??...what do you mean maybe?....this is top of my list,it looks awesome...and all the other 360 titles you mentioned are there for me, on my list as well.....i mean, theres 5 games right there, are you sure you dont fit in the 360's target?

Again, compitition in the gaming world is good. The gamer will win in the end.......Who cares if Sony does XXX better than Microsoft...or Nintendo does it better than both? In the end valid innovations will make it to all three across the board.

But playing partisanship over gaming rigs is a bit juvenille.  Guys, unless someone here works for either Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.. ninja  Who really cares which rig is better? Like most things that are well done, each has its own redeeming qualities......To emphasize one in hopes of degrading another is silly.

I recently got the X-Box 360. My first console system. (other than watching the kids play theirs)

I hate to admit this but after a couple of weeks I barely use it. I have Gears of War, GRAW-2, CoD-3...rented, Tiger 07, NFS-carbon...I can see the graphical quality in these games no-doubt, but I don't understand why they're not grabbing me like PC games do..

I have money burning a hole in my pocket and when I have spare time I wander the isles of EB and Future shop, and yes sometimes Wal-Mart looking for a X-box game to buy....There is just nothing that I see that would give me hours of fun that I feel 60 plus bucks should get.

Maybe I'm just an old dog that struggles being taught new tricks. If the 360 had a MMORPG title that had a vibrant community I probably wouldn't be so down on it...Well, its not that I'm down on it, just that I'm a little sad I'm not feeling the love like some of the others do with this latest gen-console.

I'm worried that I've now got a dust-collecting brick attatched to my TV...
Hind sight being 20\20 I think personally I would have been better served sinking the dough into my computer making it more suitable for newer titles......
Live and learn I guess.............expensive lesson. icon_eek

I've had mine vertical since I got it, no problems. Lets put it this way, Microsoft don't care, they put pads on it for both ways... icon_surprised

I know MS doesn't care, but there is a large amount of anecdotal evidence that suggests that flat is indeed the saftest way to use it. I know at least 3-4 other users on this site alone that experienced problems with it vertical.

All I know is that in this neck of the woods the concensus is Vertical...So from what I can tell, put it how it looks best to you and fits your space.........and then turn your life over to Jesus...
