2201  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Lord of the Rings Online Preview on: March 08, 2007, 12:27:38 PM
What has Lotro done that is unique and original?

What would make you play and pay for this over other more established MMORPG's?

What would JRR Tolkien think of it.........How true to his vision is it?

The World.........Does it feel immense or crowded?

Character creation individuality...Is it City of Heroes good, or WoW bad?

Does the lack of magic make it seem a bit bland compared to more traditional fantasy based MMORPG's?

Very nice, thanks for the link.

By the way does this deal have the wire I need to hook it up to a monitor?

Wow, self control thy name is Kobra. Hats off to ya if you keep it till Christmas before unveiling it to the kids.

I've just about had it with the never ending PC-carrot-upgrading shtick.

Thinking seriously about getting the X-Box 360 this week. But.........I need a new monitor for my PC anyway, and seeing as I don't have a HDTV...can someone recommend a good monitor fit for X-Box 360 sitting at a desk playing it?

I found out from Official Forums it has to do with using a No-CD file. Once I removed that the merchants were happy to see me coming...

2208  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / NWN-2: Merchants wont open window on: December 31, 2006, 11:00:08 AM
No matter who I talk to (merchant) I can't get the trade window to open.
I get the dialogue option to buy or sell but nothing happens...

Is this a known bug? I'm patched up if that matters.

2211  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Casual WoW. on: January 13, 2006, 01:54:32 AM
I think part of the problem with the whole hard-core vs. Casual player debate stems from thinking the game should stay on your hard drive for years.

As a very casual player I'm not concerned about never having been on a raid, and I've done very few instances. I took a Warrior to 60 and cancelled. Went a few months playing other games came back to WoW and now have a hunter at 31. When he hits 60, I'll quit again for awhile.

But like the saying goes you can't always have your cake and eat it too.

If you enter a MMORPG hoping that it will be like some kind of career that will last years I think you set yourself up to be disappointed.

If a MMORPG holds your interest for 6 months or even less then that's great!
It doesn't mean the game failed you because you can't find anything else fun to do. It just means what the game held for you, you've done.

Move on.

If grinding for certain things is fun for you then do it.
If it's not, then don't bemoan the fact that you hate it and have nothing else to do. You intelligent choice would be to quit. Not in disgust, but in the same way you would a single player game once you beat it.

A mmorpg is beat when you no longer like what you have left to do.
It's over.

This loyalty for years to one MMORPG is very unrealistic.
I have played all MMORPG's the same.

I do more soloing than teaming. I never get the epic gear because I don't like what I have to do to get. I fiddle fart around in game doing stuff that pleases me, not others.

And when I get bored I cancel for a while. I've gone back and forth between 3 or 4 MMORG's for ages now.

But I love when a totally new one comes out. It's like Christmas to me for the first month or so. I love that feeling a new MMORPG gives me.
But.....I'm under no dillusion that it will last for years..

If any of you are on Argent Dawn give Fenlark a tell

2213  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Great newer game for this rig? on: December 25, 2005, 11:46:42 PM
I bought movies a few weeks ago because I felt I could run it well and it sounded fun.
Bottom line, it ran well but I hated it.

So, tomorrow EB has a big boxing day sale and my wife says she'll pick a game up for me.

Thing is I have a really old system..No hope of upgrading either.

What new or newer game would I be able to run with this system?

1.4 gig athlon, 512mram, GF-3.

I'm generally a MMORPG player...I've been switching between WoW and CoH, and GW's for a while now...But honestly? Only because I can run them.
I would dearly love to find a game with some replayability that would run ok on my rig..

I tried the Civ-4 demo...basically laughed at my system and said, NO..
AOE..also wouldn't run on my system..the demo at least...

I like RPG's....

I got a feeling my only hope is winning the lottery and buying a new system....

2215  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What would your perfect game be? on: December 22, 2005, 07:44:09 PM
A fully fleshed out "Western\Pioneer\Cowboys and Indians" MMORPG.

Tribe factions, cowboys, military, Mountain men\women...
Towns full of crafting possibilities: blacksmith, general store..etc

Stage coach lines for that much needed speedy travel power.

Pony express.........Yes, my stealthing Cree warrior character would have a field day picking of Pony Express riders..

I dunno, I've always thought that period of time would translate well into a MMORPG..

IF...............done right.......................Blizzard?

Hey Msduncan: I've been following your x-box 360 saga since the beginning. I must say that as jealous as I am that there are those who can afford to buy one, I'm pulling all the way for you.

I have to comment on your wife's dedication to you and your hobby.

God bless her little cotton socks for being such a help and not a nagging hinderance..(not that my wife is the later by any means)

I'm sure you will, but make sure you get her something extra special this Christmas for being such a good sport.

All the best in you hunt for the wild and elusive 360....
2219  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / My local Walmart on: December 20, 2005, 10:12:30 AM
Remember the old Heinz Ketchup commercial..."Anticipation" sung by Carly Simon?

Basically the commercial is about how slowly Heinz Ketchup pours out while Carly sings the classic, Anticipation.

For all those telling msduncan to give it up and just wait till Spring your advice is sound and full of logic.

For someone who has decided they want the 360 and nothing else this advice falls flat..

All the old cliches apply here:

It's the journey not the destination
It's the hunt not the kill
etc, etc.

Although the destination is great, and the kill is rewarding...

Msduncan has taken the challenge of getting a 360 before Christmas and the games afoot..(sherlock holmes)

It's elementary my dear Mr. Watson.......

Wal-Mart is msduncan's Moriarity, and by his great powers of deduction he will find the elusive x-box 360 and solve this most intricate of puzzles...

Good hunting Msduncan...and don't turn to the white powder.....

   Cool
2220  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MsDuncan, I kinda sorta owe you an apology, sorta on: December 18, 2005, 04:21:19 PM
Amazing you guys, made my day.

Firstly that tebunker would even attempt to do this under those conditions is wonderful.

Secondly that he would make a open apology for taking the $300(of which I think you did the right thing)

Thirdly that msduncan was nice enough to understand and wish him the best.

Good one guys, thanks. smile
2221  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / My new addiction on: December 17, 2005, 10:57:36 AM
I see the way they get "real" money is by giving you the ability to buy things in the game using paypal.
Ingenious way of making a bit of profit. I don't have a problem with that.

If you don't want to buy anything to play you don't have to.
But I think if someone really likes this game eventually he\she will give in and purchase something...
2222  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Front page: SWG players fleeing the game. on: December 16, 2005, 11:07:25 AM
Does SoE have a lock on the Star Wars title?

Because like SWG or not, I would love Star Wars MMORPG to make another return to the scene some day...

I also would love a Pioneer\Cowboy-Western  MMORPG but that's another story.
2223  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Front page: SWG players fleeing the game. on: December 15, 2005, 02:50:42 PM
Is this a fact or just a dramatical stance on alot of vets not liking the changes?
I know we can become very zealous for our MMORPG's...but "fleeing" the game?
Is there subscription numbers to back this?
I suppose one of the hopes of SoE was that they might loose some old-players but gain a bunch of new ones.

How is that working out for them?

Hey Rob. (I use to be Gollum on the Gone Gold boards, you probably don't remember)
Anyway.....I just read a bio on you and just want to say we have ALOT in common...

My 20 year old son was born with the same congenital heart disease as you..Tetrology of Fallout.....I'm Canadian and at the time of my son's birth we were in Tyler Texas doing some missions training..Anyway, he was given a shunt at two weeks old, another one at 3 months...then proceeded to have 3 open heart surgeries over the next 10 years.
It was a tremendously stressful time and I can sympathize with your parents for sure....
He is doing fine now and had his last cardioligist visit a year ago. All systems are still go...
They say at some point in the future he'll need another operation but no one can predict when...

I'm so sorry about the complications you had during your surgery....I thank God all the time that Jonathan never really had any problems with all 5 of his...

God Bless you and yours Rob, and with all the advancements they make in the field of medicine daily I'm sure the trauma of Tetrology of Fallout will become minimal in the near future...

Take Care

Then why do you insist in making threads about you? Just answer peoples flippin questions without putting them down.
