2121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / (360) Rapala Tournament Fishing on: April 03, 2007, 10:48:25 PM
I see this just got released. I've never played a Fishing game on a console. Is this series any good?
I love fishing so I'm half way there...

I would love any impressions if someone has it already.

Danke.

Well, I could suggest you get Hep C, spinal stenosis, and have been born a Hemophiliac..that would ensure you being home alone most of the day with nothing but time on your hands.........But then again..........I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.

But I am thankful for gaming.......It was introduced to me when I was hit with my disabilities and has been a time-filling, sanity-saving hobby.

Wife is in school till August...3 kids mostly grown....22, 20,18. All at home still though...I love it.

Funny stuff LD...Good on ya for trying though. It might be easier if you role-played a guy first...Seeing as you are one.........you are one right?

Role playing(I'm a Lite Role player) is just talking and acting as YOU think your character would act. After all if you were to strike up a conversation with someone in real life at a bus stop you wouldn't think to yourself..."Wow, he didn't respond right to that question"....You would just accept him\her at face value...

I honestly don't think a person in Middle-Earth would say things like......Ah the Shire...A most magnificant place to be sure...

More like.....The Shire? How is it there anyway?..Much work?....I've been told the brew is pretty good...

We tend to think every conversation has to be poetic and a piece of Shakespearean English...

Thats just me anyway........Ive never been told off by Role Playing Nazi's...and I have fun not over thinking it....

Actually not loud at all...........Absolutely nothing to deter from getting one anyway.

Sounds like if you haven't tried them, the following might (no guarantees!) appeal to you:

Oblivion - yeah, obvious, but just saying...
Dead Rising
Test Drive Unlimited - the whole island of Oahu is available for you to explore at will, goof around with other players via Live who are free-roaming like yourself, or do more traditional race-type challenges; it really appeals to the explorer in me)
Viva Pinata - Not exploring in the sense of looking around for hidden places, but in the sense of trying various things to see what works in your garden. Maybe you want to try for high garden value, or aesthetic pleasure, or the biggest pinata variety, whatever you want to do, give it a shot

Off the top of my head, these are the games I own that sound like they might appeal to you for the same reasons they do to me: the explorer mentality. icon_smile

Thanks. Test Drive sounds cool...not sure why I haven't even heard of this. icon_eek

How does the 360 version of Oblivion play without any mods? I played the PC version for a while but only with suggested mods to help with the leveling, mob difficulty, etc, etc.

Is it still fun to play it Vanilla style?

So far I've felt let down by my 360 experience. Granted this is my first console, so it could have gone either way...

Shooters that are all about shooting bore me......maybe thats the problem........as soon as I see the word shooter in a game's description I should pass it by.

I love to ponder things in a game.......much more as I age........rapidly I might add... crybaby

Shooters don't give me time to ponder or really enjoy the "ambiance" of the setting.....

I'm an explorer-type player.......I love uncovering new and hidden areas just to see whats there...Instead shooters throw 4 aliens on my back before I can say, "wow, what a nice sunrise"............ icon_wink

My hope for the now dormant 360 sitting on my bedroom floor is that story driven, explorer type games will start showing up more and more.

The rest of the thread bedamned, I am not so much not a console gamer, but I realized that I don't quite fit into the 360's target. I am, however, holding onto the system to play Blue Dragon, Bioshock, Assasin, Too Human, and maybe Mass Effect. Otherwise I see the games on Wii being more to my taste, and even the PS3 looks to have a little more of what I want, or at least going in the directions I want with things like Little Big Planet and Uncharted coming out. For the most part there is too much 3rd party dreck throughout the year in general and I would love it if the publishers would actually, you know, make better games all around... Just me though.

'and maybe mass effect'??...what do you mean maybe?....this is top of my list,it looks awesome...and all the other 360 titles you mentioned are there for me, on my list as well.....i mean, theres 5 games right there, are you sure you dont fit in the 360's target?

Well..........I could be wrong........My wife says its happened once or twice in the past.. Roll Eyes
Ok, looks like I might not get a nice sugar-rush from my 360 right off the bat, but holding out for the titles mentioned should pay off...

Again, compitition in the gaming world is good. The gamer will win in the end.......Who cares if Sony does XXX better than Microsoft...or Nintendo does it better than both? In the end valid innovations will make it to all three across the board.

But playing partisanship over gaming rigs is a bit juvenille.  Guys, unless someone here works for either Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.. ninja  Who really cares which rig is better? Like most things that are well done, each has its own redeeming qualities......To emphasize one in hopes of degrading another is silly.

I think I identify with Gratch, almost totally...... paranoid

I too like the look of Mass Effect and Assasin's creed........I'm really not a FPS lover its just that those games were the ones I heard the most about and being a hype-sucker I followed along.

I just don't have the reflexes or something to be anywhere good at FPS.......so please, don't make me loose face by playing a FPS multiplayer.. tear

I'll choose to believe, for the moment, that the 360 will age nicely like a fine wine.

Don't you guys think that this console system would be a great platform for a full blown MMORPG?

Thanks for the input.
2141  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I might not be a Consoler... on: March 29, 2007, 11:14:21 AM
I recently got the X-Box 360. My first console system. (other than watching the kids play theirs)

I hate to admit this but after a couple of weeks I barely use it. I have Gears of War, GRAW-2, CoD-3...rented, Tiger 07, NFS-carbon...I can see the graphical quality in these games no-doubt, but I don't understand why they're not grabbing me like PC games do..

I have money burning a hole in my pocket and when I have spare time I wander the isles of EB and Future shop, and yes sometimes Wal-Mart looking for a X-box game to buy....There is just nothing that I see that would give me hours of fun that I feel 60 plus bucks should get.

Maybe I'm just an old dog that struggles being taught new tricks. If the 360 had a MMORPG title that had a vibrant community I probably wouldn't be so down on it...Well, its not that I'm down on it, just that I'm a little sad I'm not feeling the love like some of the others do with this latest gen-console.

I'm worried that I've now got a dust-collecting brick attatched to my TV...
Hind sight being 20\20 I think personally I would have been better served sinking the dough into my computer making it more suitable for newer titles......
Live and learn I guess.............expensive lesson. icon_eek

Cool system so far, even if it does sound like a damn jet engine.

Flat!!! Upright is not a good idea, no matter what they tell you or how many people report problems. In the past I had a ton of disc issues and scratches upright.

I've been told the exact opposite.  retard

I've had mine vertical since I got it, no problems. Lets put it this way, Microsoft don't care, they put pads on it for both ways... icon_surprised

I know MS doesn't care, but there is a large amount of anecdotal evidence that suggests that flat is indeed the saftest way to use it. I know at least 3-4 other users on this site alone that experienced problems with it vertical.

All I know is that in this neck of the woods the concensus is Vertical...So from what I can tell, put it how it looks best to you and fits your space.........and then turn your life over to Jesus...

From my understanding, it is an additional quest that is not dependant on having first completed the game.

To tell the truth since getting the 360 last week and picking up Gears of War, Ghost Recon, Call of Duty 3, I'm just about ready for a meaty role playing game.(did the Oblivion thing on the PC)...

I've kicked my WoW habit of over 2 years...May Jesus be praised for that... nod

But I'm having my doubts that the X-box, or that console-gaming in general can ever offer me the hours upon hours of entertainment that a PC online game could...
Remember, this is my first console, and if I'm wrong in my initial let-down then I'll be the first to say it...

Bought one two weeks ago made in Nov 06. Not a problem what so ever. But it is a tough call with the supposedly new and improved ones coming out this spring.

I also need to add that this is my first console. Although I've had no technical problems with the "box" I am having another dilemma. I don't find myself drawn to use it as much as I thought or hoped I would. I have Ghost Recon, Gears of War, Call of Duty 3, and rented NFS: Carbon, Tiger Wood 07. Other than the initial wow factor from the graphics of a couple of these titles they just aren't grabbing me.

I love gaming, and when I have time to game but find myself banging around on the PC still instead of enjoying my very expensive new toy, I have to wonder why.

I have the box set up in my bedroom on a dedicated 27 inch HDTV...I'm comfortable and secluded to enjoy the box, but I'm just not enthralled with it.

I think part of the problem is the games I have for it. I'm a MMORPG\RPG lover...Also flight simming is deep in my gaming roots.
From what I can tell shooters seem to be the majority of what most people like about the box.

I hope that eventually I find some titles now or soon to be released that make the purchase of this system\TV\peripherals worth the money.
YMMV>.

Can anyone confirm that the latest patch improves game play performance substantially on the box?

I had the game for the PC but never did get to see it with much graphical detail due to my antiquated rig.

Would I see an improvement on the Box version(eye-candy-smoothness)?

Also, do I need a gold membership to download any patches for 360 games?
