561  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Okay, it's time! Your favorite Calvin pic/ cartoon... on: October 07, 2005, 04:26:49 PM
Besides the afore mentioned Snowmen. Liked the one where they discuss how absurd the world is and the only reason we are sane is because we can laugh (I hope I'm remembering it right).
Also where the dad lost his glasses and Calvin walks in wearing them, with his hair parted neatly to the side, and imitates his father. "I want to you do things you hate because it builds character."

I'm sure there are more and I will be rereading them all when the collection hits my doorstep.

Bill Watterson is one of the very few people who I would like to meet. Not to interview or anything just to shake his hand and say thanks for the wonderful memories during my childhood.

Digital Devil Saga I'm guessing by the title.

I'm with you on the plot point. If you don't want to do a lot of reading/listening/whatever why exactly are you playing a game with a story?
563  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / When will the agony stop? How much longer? Jade Empire... on: October 07, 2005, 04:14:09 PM
It depends on your playstyle, but I would say two maybe three hours. I believe you have two more areas to play.

But it begs the question that if you hate the game this much that you want it to end quickly why exactly are you still playing? Masochistic?

566  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hitachi uses the word Bling, world recoils in horror on: September 02, 2005, 04:36:58 PM
As it stands right now the Snoop Dogg language (Foshizle or however the hell you spell it) is still at the top of my list of words/made up language that needs to disappear but bling ranks up there along with "This ain't your fathers"

Wasn't Leo on the one done in Canada though (at least when it first started)?  I haven't been keeping tabs on it honestly.  Used to watch TechTV all the time and I hate G4.

That's the version that is going to be broadcast for G4. They will still tape it up there, with Leo.

I don't think I have ever seen a show on G4 or any of the other "game" channels-actually scratch that, I have seen parts of them and they were so incredibly awful I have never tried again. Is this show really any good?

It was a tech show that used to be on TechTv before it became G4TechTv and then just G4. People would call in with any kind of tech related problem (It didn't have to be about computers) and Leo would try to solve them for the caller. They also did segments on software/hardware, not in the this video card gets 5 more fps sense more like here's a camera or a tvdvd recorder.

A good suggestion to see what the show is sort of like, minus the reviews, would be to check out Leo's KFI podcast. Through iTunes (Search for Leo Laporte or tech guy) or just copy the url from here to whatever podcast software you might have.
570  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / I'm both sad and happy. on: August 27, 2005, 12:59:03 AM
I'm sure most of you know by now, but for those that don't, Call for Help is coming back on the air for us Americans. It's still going to be filmed in Canada and then broadcast down here.

The sad part, it's on G4. The channel I only stop at if Icons, X-Play, or sometimes Cinematec is on. I'm not sure on the specifics as to why they went back to the network that kicked them out in the first place, but have a feeling it's related to money somehow. Maybe G4 wants to get back the audience they abandoned only a few months ago.

Anyway it's starting on Monday at 8amPT/11amET, so of course no one will be able to see it. And the repeat is on at an even worse time. Curse you G4!

I can remember back when they were just shorts and she always got killed at the end.
I do remember the female agents putting some kind of small canister in their back. I assumed it was some sort of drug. Does anyone remember what exactly it was.

Maybe the next movie will be The Maxx.

580  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Need helping with changing sleep pattern to graveyard shift on: June 25, 2005, 11:10:59 PM
It's hard at times. Even if you manage to get 8 hours of sleep you are still tired when you get home.

You really only have three options if you still want to get that recommended sleep.
Sleep when you get home, before you go to work, or a combination of the two.

Yours is a tricky shift though. If you get 8 hours sleep that only leaves 4 hours with your family. Though you have to take away for the travel time and however long it takes you to get ready for work.

To be honest you're screwed. You either have to live with the fact that you will barely see your family on work days or slowly kill yourself by not getting enough sleep. In which case on your days off your body will try to compensate by sleeping more.

Welcome to graveyard.
581  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Insurance companies know more than doctors on: May 27, 2005, 08:39:20 PM
Regardless of whether he would live a week or a year, insurance companies should do everything they can to help this person (Or anyone really). We pay for the service and then are told that you must jump through these hoops and maybe we'll pay half if at all. One of the biggest scams IMO.

I'll watch it though. I have to, it's wired into my nerd DNA.

586  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Jade Empire: No Heart? on: May 06, 2005, 07:36:51 PM
Haven't not played it yet I'm wondering if comparing it to KOTOR is fair. Maybe the reason it doesn't have "heart" compaired to their previous game was because we already had so much background (in KOTOR) to start with, so you were more vested versus Jade. But again I'm just guessing here.

591  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Looking for a printer on: April 18, 2005, 08:43:04 PM
I'm almost out of paper and would like to replace my old tractor feed printer with a new one. While I don't print a whole lot, when I do I usually do about 200 pages.
Here are my needs:
At least 10 ppm with 20+ being ideal
B&W not color/Mostly text with pictures being limited to logos
Trey (Cassette) loaded versus it being fed from outside the printer
600x600dpi min Mines running at 180x180 for what little speed I can get, but I don't really need a high amount.
No more than $200

A quick search through NewEgg brings up a couple that could be acceptible.
Here and here.
I'm leaning towards the Samsung simply because it is so cheap but there might be something I'm not seeing with the Brother that would make it more desirable.

593  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Obscure game impressions: Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon on: April 01, 2005, 11:46:37 PM
What a coincidence. I finally opened mine up as well. Broken Sword was one of those odd adventure games for me. If you are an adventure fan you have to play them, but something always makes me feel detatched from the story. While I do plan on finishing it I have a feeling that it will take a walkthrough to do it. A) Because I suck at puzzles B)It will help the game move faster.
I agree the game suffered in it's translation to a somewhat 3D world. With the controls crawling out bloodied and both legs broken. I had no problem adapting to Grim Fandango (Which people refused to play simply because it used a keyboard), but between the switching camera angles and the fact that left doesn't always mean left, it becomes an exercise to keep playing.

I also opened up Beyond Good & Evil today and it was like the heavens parted to give way to the sun, and for good measure throw in a rainbow and that fresh rain smell and maybe a kitten or two. So far I'm entranced and I've only completed the first mission.

598  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why The Incredibles was the best movie of 2004 on: March 24, 2005, 02:00:17 AM
The plane scene was the turning point for me. Up till then I thought the film a bit slow. But during that scene I was rivited, finding myself repeating the commands she gave to dissengage the missles. I knew they would be alright, but I just couldn't help myself.
I was definitely surprised to see the kids in any real danger. It reminded me of X-Men 2 where as far as the soldiers considered these were kids with powers and that was enough justification to kill them. There were a few comedy elements but in the end it was two kids running for their lives.

I did have one question at the end. It was eluded to, by the character, that Mirage also had powers. Did she or was it just a way for Mr Incredible to feel a little more comfortible to do what he did? Also what happens to her? The island base didn't explode so as far as I know she is alive.

600  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG] Vision of Intent for PC Gaming Coverage on: March 21, 2005, 02:10:04 AM
Echoing the same felling as everyone here about accessory reviews.

Something I would really like to see, and that I miss in CGM, is the versus. Taking a game (FPS, Strategy, RTS, etc) playing a few games and describing what your experience was, why you did this, why this move worked, etc. Kind of like what CSL was doing with X-Com but not to such a grand scale.
