It's certainly an interesting concept. I also like the way Age of Conan is handling their MMO aspect. Getting to lvl 20 give a decent indication on whether or not you want to start paying to keep going.

What was most surprising however was Sharpe revealing that 'I may or may not take out the vehicles - I haven't decided yet'. Vehicles were a big part of the game's original feature-set. If they were to be removed it would pose more than a few design problems, considering the size of the 30-square kilometre area covered in the game.

Agree with Big Jake on this one. Sharpe was the one that brought this up not the reporter. Why even bring it up? If something stays you don't say anything about it unless its a bullet point of things that are still in after you mention you are cutting some of the features. One could certainly construe that it is gone. But we won't really know until later in the year when they get closer to completion and start hyping it up again.

Here's his website incase you didn't see it on the google page. I guess he's trying to be funny, or something, with the shows he makes. I'd imagine this is an attempt at viral marketing. People get mad, go to his site, watch a few of his other shows, suddenly like him.

I did like the part in his PSP sucks video where he almost started laughing.

Very awesome.  I think I would like it better if the tv wasnt in the corner though.  Just makes it look less subtle.  Good timing though!  Well played.

Yeah it would have been better if the tv was turned away or possibly off screen. Following the picture link though he stated he wanted a picture of Contra in the comic since it was the most famous use of the code.

And it would be a nice shirt but the Title would have to be changed somehow. Either a different font or remove and put something like 30 Lives beneath it.

456  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Music downloads on: May 13, 2006, 05:08:00 PM
From what I remember the subscription sites operate on the model that the music isn't really yours. In that if you stop paying a monthly fee you no longer have access to the music. Obviously there are ways around this however. I think the benefit with these places is that you can grab an unlimited(?) amount of songs. It also seems like the DRM is a bit more restrictive.

Itunes operates on the .99 per song and 9.99 for an album, though I have seen the album price lower as well as higher for the bigger collections. Their DRM allows you to have 5(?) computers authorized for the same account and you can deauthorize one to allow another so no fear in running out. Though I've noticed it doesn't clear them all away for me (Apple might be able to help me on this but I haven't run out yet so it's no a high priority).

The problem you will run into is that their songs are in a modified form of AAC. There is a way to strip the songs of their DRM and then convert to something more universal, like mp3. The problem with this, and the site says this as well, is that you need to install an earlier version of iTunes or it won't work (The stripping part). There may be other software solutions as well but I haven't looked. And if worse comes to worse you can burn the songs and then extract them from the CD. I haven't tried to convert a protected song but highly doubt it would work.

It looks like your player should be under the PlaysForSure label so these sites should work the easiest for you.

My personal preference is of course iTunes. While I do own an iPod I'm sure that it only plays a part in the decision. Their interface is clean and purchasing is easy. Not to mention that if you are into podcasts they made subscribing to each one simple.
Could it be better? Of course. Sometimes the samples barely get any vocals so you don't really get a feel for a song. I've come across albums that don't include all the songs (Not sure why since it is all from the same artist). They don't have every artist, though I don't think any of them do. You cannot redownload a song you purchased but lost without having to pay for it again.

I don't know. If your son is really into music a subscription service might be a better way to go. And from the looks of it there are other single download sites that cater to your player so unless you really want iTunes (And are fine with converting everything minus podcasts) I would go with one of the other services listed in that link.

is this the movie you are talking about?

I watched the one, that warning put up, from Frontline. Looking at one of the segments (The Rubbermaid one ironicaly) I now remember the VP of International Corp. Affairs Ray Bracy. When I watched the show, with a few other employees, we all agreed that this was one of the more evasive smarmiest pieces of shit we'd ever seen. You could just see the evil behind his every word.

If there was ever a company I would like to see fall, and fall hard, it's Wal-Mart. No one, besides their executives, benefits from their model of buisness.
465  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Wal-Mart controls what games you play on: April 13, 2006, 12:50:06 PM
Think me and Gatorfavre watched the same video. It was just insane what Walmart can do. They would often bring in companies and negotiate hours for just a few pennies. I also remember a bit more about the Rubbermaid story. Essentially the cost of resin had gone up, which in every market means that the price must go up to adjust. Walmart wouldn't hear it. They wanted it to stay at the same price. Rubbermaid had to comply even though they were losing money on each sale. Which of course led to the bankruptcy.

I'm already back. Just read what Punisher posted concerning his point number seven and would sort of agree.

I wonder what would happen if she moved her right arm back a bit to cover up the chest fold over illusion, which would also have the added benefit of raising the chest a little bit as well.

Another idea concerning the arms, taking into account the previous addition of moving her right back, would be to have her left arm bent so that her hand was doing something with her hair. Not necessarily running fingers through it, perhaps pushing it up a bit giving the sort of messy look (Seems like that was what you said you were going for), or even tweaking a small portion of hair.
Keeping with the smile thing, which I'm liking more, and this different pose maybe have her give more of a lazy kind of smile with her eyes a bit more closed. Which again, keeping to a previous comment you made, make her look a bit more relaxed than usual.
470  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Redo of Request for feedback on photo.....(NSFW) on: March 21, 2006, 10:23:18 PM
Another unprofessional opinion here.

I'm not sure what it is about the hair that bothers me, but I'm thinking it may not be the hair at all. Maybe it's that the hair is trying to draw attention to the face when it should be the other way around. I'd be curious to see what a slight smile, on one side, and keeping the mouth slightly open like she has here. Sort of a mischievious or perhaps wry kind of thing.

The arms. The more I look at it, the more I keep picturing a superman kind of pose. But honestly I'm not sure how I would change this. A prop maybe, something small though as you don't really want to cover the chest if you can help it. Especially the shadows, as it adds more depth to something than is really there.

The only other thing you might want to try is b&w. It would be interesting to see what added shadow does to the picture. Or maybe, if you are somewhat photoshop inclined, keep everything b&w except a red mouth and perhaps a color faded tattoo, just to keep a depth going (Or as an added treat for the viewer).

There are maybe some other things but they venture into the realm of false perfection/photoshop and I'm not going to go there.

Side Note-I'm so far very pleased with how everyone has been professional about this and suggest perhaps that anyone that isn't just get their post truanced by a mod to keep this thread civil and on topic.

Oh, and your wife is beautiful. You better damn well be telling her this on a daily basis.

Raul Julia did Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. Which makes Street Fighter look like high theater.

There's no denying that we all like a few movies that the majority didn't, hell I liked Dungeons and Dragons, but most people don't build their resumes on failures as Uwe has done. You do a couple bad movies, learn from your mistakes, improve on the third. He seems to have forgotten the last two steps.
478  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Is Uwe Boll really that bad? on: February 17, 2006, 02:10:09 PM
The problem is for the longest time we expected comic translations to be horrible as well. It took a talented director/writer to prove us wrong. When some ass keeps making bad movies to such an extent that the fans it aims to bring in throw up their hands and say why bother. A good director, and to a greater extent the studio, is more likely to pass over something that could have made a good film.
