For only $10 per character you can see what happens to each member of your team(s).
Honestly it's a good thing I decided to hold off on this one. As someone who values story and storytelling above all else everything I've read indicates that the level of excellence wasn't carried over from the first two.

Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / So my iTunes account has been hijacked again
|
on: February 27, 2012, 02:42:16 AM
|
|
Had my account hijacked last month as well, as did others (Some lost as much as $100). This time they were much cleverer and purchased a free app that had in-app purchases. So I'm most likely out $15 because they were in-app. Not a whole lot but it's still irritating. Both times have been Chinese developed games. I had changed my password from a single word to a word plus numbers and letters. My touch was jailbroken and I had updated over wifi a couple times so it might have happened because of that. Went ahead and updated it which removed the jailbreak. I know my computers are both clean (Haven't clicked on anything suspect, haven't opened any mail except when I was resetting a password, haven't visited any off the path websites) and earlier this month I completely wiped all permissions for iTunes. Also my account is not linked to a credit/debit card.
Anyone have any other suggestions for things I can do to prevent this from happening again? I'm also thinking I might as well purchase something that will kill the remaining credit that I have, if for no other reason than to not lose any more money.

There are people out there who find such advertisements persuasive.
I plan to take advantage of them, hire them at substandard wages to perform my various menial tasks, and find ways to take their money to buy a beach house and maybe educate my children at ivy-festooned schools. If it amuses me, I may find a way to have them legally classified as cattle.
First thought that popped in my head. God I hope he doesn't milk them.

Perhaps I mis-read the agreement, but there is a way to opt out of the binding arbitration and class action waiver under section 15. What is the downside to opting out?
The downside is that you can't update your PS3 anymore, which means you can't play newer games or access the PS3 online store. sgoldj isn't talking about not updating as a way to opt out. You can send a letter to the address they list and be removed from waiving your rights. A couple comments from ArsTechnica if you do plan on doing this. Make sure you send it by something like USPS signature confirmation so they cannot claim to have never gotten the letter. Also it's not clear if you will have to send a letter each time a new update comes around.

That's really not much of a choice. Not only are they holding hostage a user that has purchased content from PSN or wishes to play online but also the developers that have their games up for download. I also don't like the precedent this might set. Yes there are probably other ways the company can be punished if found to have done something against the law. But those usually end up not reimbursing the customer but rather the state. I'm speaking from no knowledge of this but it seems like the best way a customer can bring a company to court is through a class action along with other like minded people, otherwise the company will just draw it out knowing that an individual cannot afford a lengthy battle.
Legally I suspect that since they provide a way for a customer to opt out of surrendering their rights after accepting the download it will be fine. A bit grey but fine.
As far as spending their money on things other than lawsuits, I'm pretty sure that's what their lawyers are paid to handle already.

Oh sure they may try to disguise it as "helping" educators teach physics and critical thinking. But we all know what their plan really is. To get the kids hooked with their sweet sweet candy thereby destroying generations of young peoples hopes and dreams. Because really which would you rather do, study all night or think with portals? Trick question, there is no study only portals. So when the world is reduced to burning rubble and the populace are forced into Newell re-eduction camps don't come crying to me. No really, don't bother me, I've got portals to make.

That whole thing reads like a little kid having a tantrum from not getting it's way. Maintaining a level playing field by restricting access to timed exclusives even though we do the same thing. Wow, just wow. It's funny, when I initially bought both consoles in December I had a fear that the PS3 was just going to gather dust as I would mainly use the 360. But from the beginning I've found myself experiencing the opposite. - Media player is infinitely better
- Dashboard is cleaner and quicker
- Don't have to be online to play arcade type games
- No bloody avatar
- No imaginary currency
- Controller feels better (Personal opinion)
- HD upgrades are not x times more expensive than market
- Larger swath of genres and more imaginative games
- The trophy notification doesn't get in the way
I'm sure there are more but would probably be getting into more and more personal preference. Also I'm not saying Sony hasn't miss-stepped as well. I definitely wish backwards compatability was still included. It would also be nice to see an indie space as maybe they would do a decent job at promoting it. I am now wondering if this will be like the Gamecube for me. Where I end up buying games for it to justify the purchase.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Looking for a gaming laptop and possibly a netbook. Recommendations needed

First off the laptop will not be a desktop replacement. What I would like power wise is something that can play MMOs on medium to high (I'm thinking LOTRO but really any of them) and at bare minimum run Mass Effect 2 at medium/high. Of course if I can get something that runs better than that I'm all for it.
As far as specifics I would like at least a 17" screen with a good view angle (My last one starting loosing color and brightness as soon as you deviated from dead center which was annoying). Would prefer an AMD/Radeon but I'm not firm on that. Would like a fairly large HD so SSD are out especially with how much they still cost. Would like an internal wireless and at least two USB ports. Anything else like say an HDMI out would be nice but certainly not a deal breaker. Oh and would like the speakers to be of decent quality as I would probably be using them as I watch something else on the TV, especially if I'm playing an MMO. Lastly, I do not care if the design is as ugly as sin just as long as typing on it is comfortable. I'm fine with spending $1000+ but something like from Apple is way too much for what you get.
Now on to the netbook or whatever. What I would like to use this for is document viewing/editing, web browsing and video playback. So while I am playing something on a console or computer to be able to look at it for reference and modify text as I go along. If and this is a big if since I will have the laptop, I do want to game on it I'm thinking DOSBox or maybe something like Uplink. I'm open to a tablet but it seems like what I want to do, especially text modification, requires more money beyond the initial investment. Admittedly I was looking to see if there were text editors for the touch so a tablet may be different. The big thing though is I want to be able to use this while offline. I don't keep my connection on at all times so some kind of storage is necessary. Also this device, whatever I may go with, should be fairly inexpensive so something like the iPad or probably most tablets are probably off the table. Again I would only be using this to fill a pretty small want so something fancy is not required.
Hope I listed everything that might come up.

It doesn't look like they provide ripping if the disc is encrypted/protected.
I will give this one a shot since I have a few FLV files that Super, DVDFab, or the PS3 Converter from 4Media just have a hard time with. Actually I can eventually get Super to work and it plays fine on the computer but the PS3 doesn't like it.

I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone would be interested in a swap. Just opened the shrink wrap on my copy, haven't put in the 360 yet. Initially decided I would rather have the 360 version because everyone seemed to be more in love with the gamerscore and achievements. But having played both systems I find that I don't care whose rewards I get but the idea of unlockable themes appeals more to me than gamerpics.

Does anyone even start to believe that these are real? From I remember, listening to VideoGameOutsiders, one of the creators has said that they made a fair amount of them up at the beginning. I'm pretty sure that she also said that they made some up for the book as well. It wouldn't shock me to hear that 25% are real with the rest being made up by the creators and contributors. I think it has also been pointed out here that some of the corrections shouldn't have happened to begin with.

The last solid news Ragnar had put out was that the third game was going to be episodic. He also said that even if they just make it a book he want to finish the story. Nothing new here, much like when BG&E pops up every once in a while and most everyone pines yet again for more.

There was an easter egg that they couldn't fit on the discs (Yes they ran out of space on all seven) where Adriane was supposed to jump up and shimmy along some pipes. Instead you could try to jump the gap, it then cut to a green screen with her on a mat and the director asking what she thought she was doing and her saying something like I thought I could make it. I could swear it used to be downloadable from this website http://anthonylarme.tripod.com/phantas/phantas.html but I just couldn't find it. Tried doing a search and coming up empty as well. Would recommend Black Dahlia for a better FMV thriller/horror game or Amber for a more Myst type experience.
