Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Waterworld? Bah, Chump Change! Superman is teh Win!

That is true, although Warner sees no money from books sold as far as I know. In fact, I believe they only have through book 5 signed (not that anyone else would beat Warner in a bidding war). Not sure if they see action figure sales or not, so they are just going on box office and DVD sales (which is a lot, don't get me wrong).

Wow, only 790 million? Hell, they should just stop now, they'll be starving soon. Well, trends for the HP movies would say that Goblet of Fire may go in the low 700s or even high 600s. That's only 2:1 profit...granted, it's profit nonetheless. However we need to take into account how much they will put into marketing, so that 2:1 profit will be even less when you take the worldwide marketing money into the equation.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (9/26)
|
on: September 26, 2005, 06:52:00 PM

Sly 3 and Lunar DS for me, although I probably won't actually buy them this week. I really hope Sly 3 is more like the first one. Sly 2 was very disappointing, IMO. I can only guess it is a lot like Sly 2, so you may be disappointed. Same episodic style with being able to use different characters. Capcom Collection has me excited. 22 games in one $19.99 package (I think it is 22 games that is)? Sign me up!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Want an Xbox360 Controller....early?

Wouldn't have to pick another controller up when you get your system? Granted, it's wired, but you might save money in the end (although it only has $7.80 to go before it hits the MSRP for a wired 360 controller with 4 days to go).

OK...the bigger news (simply because Superman's price is probably the overall budget for the whole process including 10 years ago to now) is that Goblet of Fire cost $305 million to make? Sheesh!
Profits have declined for the HP movies since the first one with Azkaban taking in almost $790 million worldwide compared to the first movie which took in almost a billion and Secrets which took in $876 million.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Best time to enter "everytenminutes" points?
|
on: September 26, 2005, 04:05:35 PM
|
|
Putting in more gives you a better chance, but the odds are still not very good.
The one I related to above was someone put in 100 caps and the total amount of caps in the 10 minute drawing was 1500. This means that the person's cap was 1 in every 15 caps in the drawing, so they have a 7% chance of winning. This is far better than 1 in 1500 which is a .0007% chance of winning. It all comes down to the luck of the draw, much like the lottery or any type of raffle.

Well, you can enter in for any 10 minutes at any time, so your 4am thought goes out the door. You don't have to be awake to put the points in. I'd put all 5 in one, but you can certainly spread them out. It's much like the lottery, the more you have the more chance you have to win. However I have heard of someone putting in 100 points in a 1500 total point drawing and not win...he had a 1 in 15 chance and still didn't win.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Is there a confirmed list of launch day titles for the 360?
|
on: September 25, 2005, 03:16:53 AM
|
|
I'll be honest and say I don't know how likely people will be able to get an Xbox 360 by Christmas if it isn't on pre-order or if you don't stalk stores like Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, etc. like a hawk after release. The PS2 was in super short supply (whether done by Sony purposefully or not is totally up to how you feel) the year it came out at Christmastime even though it had a 1 month jump on the Xbox 360 this year (it came in October).

Added Perfect Dark Zero to the "later on" category thanks to this from an IGN PDZ preview: Lastly, we've learned that Perfect Dark Zero is not concretely set to launch day and date with Xbox 360. In other words, it's doubtful as a day one launch title. Expect to see it in 2005, and most probably before Christmas, but not day one. Uh oh...flagship game not coming out on release day?

Way too many games out this week...I was pissed Blockbuster had neither X-Men 2 or USM (the latter was more believable since it would be at most stores today), but they did have Marvel Nemesis...didn't pick it up though, didn't have a good enough gut feeling about it.

I was telling Ron the other day that it could be Halo 2.5: Yep, We Forgot the Ending or Halo 3. The former could be a launch game and it would already be sold out as soon as it is announced, so they would make the Xbox 360 that much more attractive to people on the 2nd wave and beyond.
My guess is that it is Halo 3 being announced with a launch day of "When Playstation 3 Comes Out". Probably show off pictures/videos, etc.
This picture isn't as intuitive as OurColony or ilovebees, so I'm not surprised no one has figured it out yet.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Tiger Woods 06 Xbox : Chronically flawed

I know it's unforgivable. That was just the sense I was getting from the reviews. They didn't note it because they didn't feel it was important or worse they didn't notice it.
I walked right past it at Blockbuster today, not going to pick it up if it is broken.

I put the link in your post...and yes, it is as crazy as OurColony was except in this case there really isn't a game to play, just a picture to watch with the timer running down.

Im sure when Bethesda knows when the game will be finished they will let us know Hetz. No, trust me, we will be the LAST to know. The publisher, Microsoft, most game magazines and retailers will know before they let us know on their website....and they are already ALL saying it is. Anyway, Microsoft will make it official on Oct 3rd when they announce the official launch lineup for North America. Well you might be the last to know. I imagine I will know before that though How? Are you psychic? I doubt he's psychic, but he is a good real-life friend of the Executive Producer (hope I got the title right) for the game (kathode).

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / X-Men Legends II Review is up!

How soon do I get Gambit? What's the big appeal with Gambit? He always seemed like the lamest of the X-Men to me. I guess I started reading the X-Men a long time ago (Uncanny X-Men #160 or so). I stopped after many years, before Gambit made it in, but watching him on the cartoons and reading about him, he just seems blah. I just don't understand the appeal I guess. LD lives in a parallel universe where there are actually some Gambit lovers in the world

Speaking of the flashback, what kind of ahole doctor tells someone they will never have feeling below the waist without actually verifying that first? Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Wouldn't someone have run whatever tool they run under your foot to check reflexes? If it was me, I'd check and recheck for ANY possibility of sensation by the patient before I'd think of bringing the bad news. I know they were trying to show his bad bedside manner, but that wasn't bad bedside manner. That was incompetence and idiocy. Well, in my mind you have to look beyond her being able to feel. Jack said that the spinal column was totally destroyed. I can only guess that he was unable to connect the spinal column together and he divulged that she would never walk again because it was clinically impossible for her to be able to. Why check for feeling if he was unable to connect the spinal column? There should be a gap where it makes feeling impossible. This is a miracle in my mind. She shouldn't be able to do anything because her spinal column is not connected...that's what I got from Jack's explaination at her bedside. I think he was shocked that she could feel because it's an impossibility.

I think the PSP version is still a month off and I can't comment on the PC version, but Ron might be able to. I am going to guess since Raven built this on the PC and then ported over to the consoles that the same multiplayer aspect is on the PC version.

You guys watch Fox on Sunday night? There was a spot after Family Guy (I think) where Jason Bateman was on and had Carmen Electra in skimpy clothing. He said something like, "We won 5 Emmys last year, but still no one is watching. So, if we get over 15 million viewers for our season premiere we will give one of the Emmys to Carmen here who has gotten no Emmy nominations at all." It was pretty funny.
Their new timeslot on Monday gives them a good shot at hitting a good number of watchers.

I'll have to download this and Total Overdose demo tonight. I may or may not be able to play tonight, depends on what is going on after my poker night...and I have to watch Lost at some point. Get BiA too Foxer, so we can play the mission multiplayer. What is Total Overdose all about? Ron just did an in-depth preview on Total Overdose this week. Sounds pretty cool to me and Ron has been raving about it since he came back from E3. Yeah, I'll download BiA as well...what is that, almost 1GB for all 3? heh...demos are so big nowadays.
