Bah. It's great owning a house.

We have been blessed that two of the three houses we've owned have been brand new.  The one that wasn't, however, we sank a ton of money into...but fortunately we made an absolute killing on it when we sold it.

The house we're in now, I hope to never leave.  We did spend about 25k finishing the basement (doing almost all the work was my father and me) and I'd love to some day finish the attic.  We do need new carpet upstairs, but things wear out. That's just the way it is.

YMMV. slywink

FWC has an AR you can get randomly, but it's random.  You should have done some research and picked a faction that sells an AR so you could buy one if they didn't give you one.  You also probably should have at least read a paragraph on how to faction in the first place Tongue

Yeah. I did it based on teg's post a few pages back about what abilities they focused on. Last time I listen to him.  disgust

48  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Crisis of faith or is it over? on: October 08, 2014, 02:29:27 PM
It breaks my heart to see threads like this.

I know the power of Christ and what He can do in people’s lives and it brings me great sorrow that the Church He cares for has degraded to such a degree that we have reactions like these.

Sinners would rather embrace teachings and lifestyles that make them believe they are nothing and of absolutely no value in the scheme of things rather than the truth.

The sin nature plays a huge part of that and the deep seeded penchant for rebellion as well, but seeing people proclaim Christ with their mouth and then deny them with their actions does great damage.

I am in that category a lot because of my own flaws that I battle daily... I think back to some of the wars I used to engage in on these very forums and while I admire my passion to bring those to the Lord, my methods were heavy handed and unloving…and without love we are nothing.

I've swung too far the other way now, not willing to dive in here any longer because it truly is a waste of words and effort. I’m not convinced that many of you are willingly seeking God other than to mock him and those who espouse him. But not trying is not loving either.

I pray for you guys. Not consistently but I do and have and always will.  I know that if I could come to faith God can lead you to himself as well.  But you must be willing to sincerely seek.

If you want to shop at the Vanguard store or the Crucible store, you need to take off your FWC item for a while.

There it is. I had no idea.  I was wondering after playing SO much crucible I still haven't reached rank one in the crucible.

My question is: if I take off the FWC one and put on a vanilla one will crucible rank up faster?

how have you not hit rank 1 with crucible?  did you forget to take your faction cloak off?  Also you can get a free AR randomly on level up with a faction, they all have one, just not for sale.

You should never hit the cap for glimmer, buy ammo packs to prevent it from happening, you will need them for late game stuff

Wait. Are you telling me if i take off the faction arm band (warlock) I'll level up faster in the crucible?  You magnificent bastard!

And maybe the AR for FWC is only for level 3?  Now I need to find out!
54  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Destiny -Bungie's new game with Activision on: October 08, 2014, 04:58:52 AM
Did moderately well given that my AR is blue, but then the heavies hit the server and I was just dying left and right.  Went back to regular crucible.

Figures the one faction I chose and am closest to hitting level 3 on doesn't sell legendary ARs...so I've pretty much wasted my time with them.

I also have reached the cap on glimmer, have played the crap out fo the crucible but still haven't hit level 1, am not really looking forward to hunting the 40 different resoruces I need to upgrade my kit...so I'm kind fo stuck.

The leveling requirements in this game are kind of ridiculous.

I'm about 80% into the 2nd book and I don't understand the dislike of it.  There's less Denna, more character growth for Kvothe and more things actually happening.  At this pace though the third book better be like 3,000 pages because I'm not sure how he's spending 2 books on the early teens and one book on the rest of the guy's life. slywink

I may have mentioned this before since I've suspected it was the problem for awhile, but it was confirmed for me today so here it is again.  If you have 'Instant On' selected, the XB1 will often end up with a moderate or strict NAT due to how it resumes.  If you play multiplayer games at all, I strongly suggest switching to 'Energy Saving' which means it takes longer to turn on and no longer resumes, but it fully refreshes the network connection on turn on.  Hopefully MS fixes this soon since it's been a semi-known issue since launch.

This is HUGELY helpful, Hark. Thanks. I was wondering why my NAT had suddenly jumped to Moderate.

Anyone interested in the Kingkiller Chronicles might want to catch the two spinoff stories too. One of them, called "The Lightning Tree", was released in the Rogues anthology (bonus: A short A Song of Ice and Fire story by George R R Martin is in there too) and is about Bast. The other one, "The Slow Regard of Silent Things", is about Auri, is a little longer, and is being released this month.

I'd like to read lightning tree, but I'm not really interested in buying an anthology by others...any way to get it standalone?

In the spirit of Crux's Abercrombie Thread...

I was reading the First Law Trilogy on a plane when a guy glanced over, saw it, struck up a conversation and recommended Rothfuss.

I read the first book earlier this year and came away incredibly impressed by Rothfuss' writing and very much enjoyed the book. I'm 3/4 through book 2 which is, in mind, significantly better...and I thought I'd strike up a conversation about it. I've seen people mention him in passing, but I think the series so far warrants its own thread.

I care a great deal for the main character, but I'm not entirely sure why.  I think the adventures he's having are 'cant put the book down' good but also not really much is happening.  The events that are occurring are unique and captivating and I have laughed, felt stress and concern, but somehow it's all quite sterile.

I've no idea how to explain this dichotomy but Rothfuss is a magnificent writer (better than Abercrombie, IMO, but Abercrombie's characters were far more layered and complex), and the series is well worth your time.

Name of the Wind (book 1): 4/5
Wise Man's Fear (book 2): so far 5/5
3rd book is supposed to be out in 2016.

What's the difference between interrogating a regular orc and a 'worm'.  Is it just that 'worms' can give weaknesses?

Also, all the weaknesses seem pretty vague so far.

But I've restarted about 5 times so I'm still not very far.  Just got done with the 'interested party' mission.

haha, this game is super rad. I had a mission to kill one of the war chiefs, a big mother with a shield and spear that would charge me. He was surrounded in his stronghold by bodyguards and a million Uruk Hai, and seemingly impervious to everything. Hit and run tactics and stealth both failed, and ranged was completely useless.

Finally, I got above him and did a brutal drop on a nearbye dude and he flipped out and bailed. I chased him out of the fortress and ACROSS THE MAP. Seriously, we traversed the entire map. I finally got close enough to throw some daggers and slow him down and felled the foul creature.

What a great game. After Destiny, this is a breath of fresh air. Easily my GotY.

What an absolutely brutal opening to a game. Wow.

Question: I didn't get very far as Destiny's siren song lured me away, but the interface is very overwhelming and I felt like I really needed a manual.  Should I go directly after the first orc captain to progress the tutorial? My typical method is to do everything but what I'm directed to do until last.

Thanks for the advice.

Oh and the graphics are pretty terrible. Everything else, voiceover, movement, menus, etc seem top notch.  GB just dropped a 5/5 on it.

If someone could say link me to a vid showing the same game at different FRs, perhaps I would get an idea?

As for you ATB, that you claim not to be able to tell the difference between 60 fps and 30 fps tells me that you haven't actually played many 60 fps games. The difference is huge, though I have no problem playing games at 30 fps personally. For an example of of what kind of difference it makes, just look at The Last of Us. Most people found the PS4 version to be easier than the PS3 version (me included), and that's because of only two things: The improved controller and the improved framerate. It's not just a visual thing. A higher framerate also improves control latency, which means you can react quicker and make finer, more precise adjustments to your aim.

You tell me: I have recently played destiny, BF4 on XB1, Gears of War 3, COD Ghosts, Tombraider reboot whatever it's called, Dishonored, Guacamelee STCE,  Kinect Sports Rivals.

Forza 5 is 1080p/60fps, did you try that?
