Umm, why?

Because it confirms that many gamers are desperate losers who gawk longingly at women who will never have anything to do with them.

It's about the games, man. THE GAMES!
14882  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just Finished: POP:TTT on: May 02, 2006, 10:01:57 AM
Well, I started this game a LONG time ago and since I began it I have been wholly consumed by PS2 for my gaming time.  Finishing Devil May Cry seemed like as good a spot as any to revisit it since I was about 90% of the way through anyhow.

I've Loved POP:TTT and I've hated POP:TTT, but overall my initial impressions were correct.  It's a fabulous game, with great pacing and story elements and as always some amazing platforming.

I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but it ended as one could have presumed.  I would like to have seen

Spoiler for Hiden:
the story somehow end back at the very beginning where the Prince is standing before the hour glass and chooses not to obey the vizier and thusly the whole series would never have happened.  this would have all happened using the original graphics engine to really contrast the times before the SoT and the times that had happened during and since. However, it was clever, but again not wholly unexpected, that it ended with him running through the forest on his way to talk to Farah for the first time.  Not quite the effect of the ending of the first one, but...good

My inclination is to give it an A, but had I not had the PS2 diversion and thus played it straight through rather than take almost 4 months with it, it would still get an A+ so that's what I will give it.

I hope that there will indeed be a new story arc, perhaps long before the SoT storyline- perhaps it could be set in the battles prior to conquering Farah's kingdom....or it could happen after TTT and be more of a re-establishing Babyon story.

Either way, it definitely gets a reccomend from me.

Uhh... if they are illegal they shouldn't be in our schools at all unless their parents have a permit to be here.

Of course, you're aware that children born in the United States are automatically considered citizens of this country regardless of the immigration status of their parents.

That means you're assuming that the Hispanic students rallying here in Connecticut are all illegal immigrants themselves.  I'll ask you the same question I asked Graham: what is the basis for that belief?

-Autistic Angel

And this point makes for great difficulty: send back the illegal parents and who will care for the citizen children?

That's why a gradual 'grandfathering' of citizenship needs to occur.  They still have to do the right thing- sign up blah blah and take the tests, but they aren't granted immediate citizenship or expelled.

You're a real humanitarian.

Remember you had nothing to do with where you were born.  Imagine you're in mexico and your family can't make it on what you're paid so you risk your life and go to a country where you don't know the language so that you can earn a few bucks to support your wife and children.

Not only have you overcome that, but now you have insensitive and spoiled American 'patriots' who have had everything in their lives handed to them (yet still bitch) saying you should get out of 'their' country cause you happened to have been born in the wrong place.

I don't know what the solution is, but brandishing the us vs them mentality is done in complete ignorance.

A fabulous game start to finish. Hard to believe that the graphics are 5 years old as it looked top notch throughout.

I love games that vary the game play effectively: there's the whole dante 3rd person which is 98% of the game but there were also some

Spoiler for Hiden:
under water, flying (a la space harrier) and some (not too difficult) jumping puzzles

Overall, I give the game an A+ which makes every game I've played so far on the PS2 fall into that category (of course I'm cherry picking the most highly rated games).

Question: You gents have already said that Pt 2 should be skipped and all of the reviews agree. However, does anyone know where I can get a story synopsis so that I know what story advances or intriguing plot lines are introduced in it before I pick up pt 3 (even though it's a prequel)?

Thanks!

Oh and if you haven't played it, do!

I never fail to be astounded at the fickleness of this group.

You're not going to buy it because of its name? Come on! I know it's all false bravado shrouded by the anonymity of the web, but why waste the time typing something so preposterous?

If it was the Nintendo GODKILLAR would you jump all over it?

Wii is a fine name.  It's not great, but neither will it hearken in the death of the company.

Oh and suggesting that the the name makes the console a non factor is just devoid of reason.  It's the games, stupid.

I think this site is so level-headed in so many ways, but the irrational knee-jerking over the most trivial things is unbelievable.
14899  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Read the Manual? on: April 24, 2006, 05:40:50 PM
Since the days of NES, I've always considered the manual a part of the whole gaming experience.  As such, I've always loved reading the manuals prior to playing the game as it often gave some bit of story, general gameplay hints and of course the controls.

I've found (anecdotally) that many people don't read the manuals at all.

What say you?

My wife doesn't get video games. I bought Guitar Hero and she asked me 'Do people your age play this?'. I do something cool like have the PoP lop some sand creature's head off and go 'Cool!' and she'll go 'it is?'

That not withstanding, she's very patient with my hobby.

To top it off, this past weekend she went clothes shopping.

And she bought me a shirt.

It has a picture of a GC controller and it says 'I have control issues.'  And....IT GLOWS IN THE DARK.

I love it.

(I couldn't break it to her that I haven't owned anything nintendo since the NES, but...it's the thought that counts.smile )

Meh. I don't mind paying between 10-15.00 for a movie or between 25 and 35.00 for a television season.

if you hunt the sales it's not hard to find movies cheap.

i don't buy many at all anymore as most movies these days never seem to be 'perfect' from start to finish.

I focus on seasons: Futurama, Batman:TAS, and of course the Simpsons (season 8 being the last DVD purchase of any kind).

I'd rather rage about jacked up music prices, but I buy nearly all of my CDs from yourmusic.com and at 5.99 a pop, I'm content...though if I want a new release I'll pay up to 12.00.  Still not atrociious, but well overpriced.

I like shopping at the local EB despite the hard sell.  Olga (i believe she's latin) is a master seller.  I've seen her get people to buy the 1.00 disc guarantee and pre-order a game that they weren't ready to preorder.

I came up to the counter and she said the first two words of her pitch and I said no thanks.

She's just doing her job.

Everyone always says they're giving up on EB....

Continue in Devil May Cry (PS2)

May finally finish Prince of Persia 2 (XBOX)

Perhaps a bit of Guitar Hero (PS2)

May begin Indigo Prophecy (XBOX)

May play a bit more Chrono Trigger (PSX via PS2)

I have the sneaking suspition though that I won't get much time to play this weekend.

Okay okay- I should stop gushing about my PS2 experience, but I won't. So there.

I'm playing some DMC to take a breake from the sublime Chrono Trigger, and I'm having a hoot- I'm not very far in (misison 4) but it's a fabulous game. You already know that.  So here's my question.

As I love to play game series all the way through (hence I started with Shadow Hearts in order to play what is supposed to be the even greater SH:C- SH btw is brilliant), I'm wondering if the generally awful reviews of DMC 2 should prevent me from playing it.

No spoilers please, but despite the fact that DMC2 is considered pale in comparison to I and III, should I play it to get the most Dante/DMC story?

Or is it safe to skip it and go to III?

I ask these question as someone who has a tentative grasp on financials/economic reports:

1. Is Square Enix cash rich? I mean they've been making blockbusters for decades now.  I'd think they have a pretty fat wad and could stave off a few bad quarters/years.

2. How does a bad year make for a grim outlook?  Has this been a problem for consecutive years or is this a blip?

3. I don't know for certain, but I would expect that SE is planning a huge game in support of PS3 launch. Is this true? If so, I'd presume they'd do ok as a result of that console's debut

Ok.

The jump from easy to medium was fine.

But medium to hard is too much.

I can get five stars after MANY MANY MANY attempts on four of the first five songs, but man Infected is giving me coniptions- I can finish it, but it's not good enough.

Then I tried More than a Feeling...COME ON!

I find trying to hit hammer on's and pull offs VERY difficult and the fact that there is no way to practice them other than in the short advance tutorial quite frustrating.

Any tips out there?  I know someone finished bark at the moon on expert- I got 3 stars on medium and gave up.

Help! I want to be good but can't seem to get it. Tips Tips tips?

It's just awesome.

I bought all three collections some time in early '05 and thus far have still only completed the first season.

First season was hit or miss with its episodes- mostly hit and some of the stories are movie quality.

I've begun season two and just finished the first part of Robin's something or other and I have to say that this season already surpasses season 1- very taught, very deep, very well done.

Just great stuff.

I remember catching them in original release when i was in high school and I'm glad I ponied up the dough to buy them.

I'd like to do Lasik, but I have an astygmatism in both eyes, which makes it even more expensive.  The last time I checked, it was costing me $500 for each eye + another $250 for the astygmatism.  That made it a cool $1500 for both.

I had severe astigmatism in each eye.  For the #1 guy in Northern Virginia it cost me $2850 per eye.  They had a 600.00 promotion so final cost was $5100.00 total (for initial lazoring, and follow ups).  If you pay for it through flex spending it works to be about 30% less.

Totally worth it.
