Get the adapter that is used on the GameBoy SP to plug in headphones and you can use it on the DS to plug headphones into the BACK of the DS!

The DSL is much more "slick" looking than the old DS...much more like the SP in that respect. In the white, it looks like something Apple would have made.

Not to mention you can dress it up with super hot skins.

Quote from: "weleavefossils"
going on the topic of the case..has anyone ever came across a case that holds games?  I'm tired of having to carry the cases if I want to take more than one game.  Do they have mini cases for the games you can get?  maybe that fit in some sort of case for the ds lite..

I saw at CC three plastic cases that hold 3 games each.  Looks like they would slide nicely into a pocket or other case.  I'm probably going to pick some up.

As for Iron Giant: It's one of the most underappreciated movies I've ever seen.

I absolutely loved it.  Made me laugh, made me <cough> cry.  Made me scream for joy.

Brilliant. Simply Brilliant.
14852  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Friday Nite DS Lite Review on: June 17, 2006, 02:34:49 AM
After a a few hours with the DS Lite (my first handheld ever) I commented:

Quote from: "ATB"
So far I'm enjoying it, but I'm not BLOWN away.

Somewhere else I wrote:

Quote from: "ATB"
I give it 8 Marios out of 10.

Now five days later, what are my thoughts? Well read on.

My initial reaction to the DS Lite was tempered with:

A: The fact that the first one I pulled out of the box had a dead pixel.
B: I had received what I then considered considerable bad news in the RL.

Since then I have:

A: Opened the 2nd one I bought and had it work fine.
B: Allowed a cooler head and praying heart prevail.

That said, what does this Ninten00b think?

Games Played:

New Super Mario Bros: So far it is a 10/10 for me.  It's decidedly retro and as far as I'm concerned very innovative- of course I haven't played any Super Mario anything in about 15 years. I love the mini games too

Mario Kart Though I wish snaking was so mandatory to win WFC games, I still enjoy the experience and like the single player.  WFC games will significantly up the replay value and just today as I sat getting my oil changed I found an unsecured  wifi network and played 2 quick matches (losing both terribly). Initial take: 8/10

Brain Age  Got this tonight and did the first day's worth of training.  The demo really got me hot as it didn't understand my 'blue' but the full version seems to work fine.  My brain age: 49 (I'm 31). I like it, but we'll see if it has staying power. Initial take: 8/10

Big Brain Academy Got this also tonight with the buy 2 for 30 at TRU.  I like the exercises but I can see myself running out of gas on this one pretty quickly as it doesn't have any long term charting or graphs.  For 15.00 though, I'm fine with it.  Initial take: 7/10

As for the overall DS, consider me smitten.  I up the Mario count to a solid 9.5/10.  My minor gripes are:

1. Doesn't include one of those bagged cleaning cloths with it and I don't want to buy one of those stupid starter kits
2. The earphone jack is in entirely the wrong place. It should definitely be in the back center
3. It could be that I'm not used to playing with the Lite's configuration of buttons/screen, but it has made my hands and forearms a little bit unfcomfortable.
4. The health warning must be clicked through at every start up.  Is this true if you put it into auto start as well?
5. First one I bought had a dead pixel. When will this one get its first?
6. The case I bought doesn't store the charger plug in it.  It's a good charge and go case but that's it. Still, it's my fault, but it is part of the overall experience for me.

Greatest likes:

1. Compact design
2. Great screen brightness
3. I actually am taking it places to play it- something I never thought I'd do short of a business trip
4. The sound is much more impressive than I thought it would be
5. My inital game purchases have featured some great variety and I still have Meteos and Advance Wars waiting in the wings
6. My daughter loves to play the Whack a Mole mini game in NSMB
7. Nintendo, baby! Nintendo!
8. There are quite a few games I've found that I'd like to buy once I knock some of the ones I have out.
9. Can't wait to get up and train my brain tomorrow
10. The cost. It may be the best 130.00 I've ever spent.
11. It has me totally enamored of gaming again.

I absolutely loved the game and the story at the end of the first was just picking up momentum. <sigh>

14861  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Ben Roethlisberger hurt in motorcycle accident on: June 16, 2006, 12:17:46 PM
"I never meant any harm to others nor to break any laws," Roethlisberger said. "I was confident in my ability to ride a motorcycle and simply believed such an accident would not happen to me."

At least he's mature enough to admit it.

"In the past few days, I've gained a new perspective on life," the Super Bowl-winning quarterback said in a statement released by the team. "By the grace of God, I'm fortunate to be alive ... "

But Roethlisberger said in the statement that if he ever rides a motorcycle again "it certainly will be with a helmet."

Let's hope he sticks to it!

I'm loving the level design is well, it feels so classic. And huge Mario? Awesome.

Honestly I hate this game.  It's hands-down the worst Nintendo-developed game I've ever played.  It all smacks of a shitty moneygrab, has no innovation, interesting mechanics, or QUALITY.

Nintendo should be ashamed for sullying the Mario name with this ripe turd.

Why do you even bother playing anything?

If you hold the acceleration button at a certain time right before the race begins, you'll get a starting speed boost. That might be why you've noticed opponents accelerating past you right at the start of the race.

I've been able to figure that out...thanks! Any others.

No matter what I do I always lose.

People with the same exact character seem to jet away from me with ease and I can't figure out why.

They are power sliding a lot, but it seems just to be bouncing, not getting their tires on fire for the speed burst....or is that what they're doing? Sliding at random spots to get the speed burst?

Any other tips?

Thats' bogus. I've a little experience with a guitar and by little i mean the opposite of Warning's Colossus Hands experience. It's far far FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR more complex.

If you put 20 hrs into GH you're pretty good. You put 20 hrs into a real guitar you might be strumming chords.

You started a countdown thread for it for gawd sakes.

That said, I enjoy the device very much, but hmm.  Maybe it's the external circumstances of life that have changed rather than my reaction to Lite itself. Oh and did I mention that I haven't had good sleep in nearly a week.

However, it's wonderous to be playing SMB again and only now do I remember how bad I am at those games smile. Meteos is fun, if a bit confusing and I still have 2 more games to take a look at.

Overall I'd give the Lite 8 Marios after a preliminary 2 hrs.  I've not made use of wifi nor do I really understand how to use the device at this point.
