14681  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Accountability on: August 21, 2006, 03:49:31 PM
I don't have specific advice unfortunately but can say what works for me.

For me it's often a psychological switch- it applies to eating, exercise and even consistent Bible study.

I just get to a point where I'm so weary of being out of shape/out of the Word that I go ALL IN.  Problem is, usually when I get back in shape/consistently read the Bible I get complacent and start to falter which inevitably leads to ALL OUT.

This is evidenced by the fact that I had gained 20 lbs in a (albeit very stressful) year.  Starting a few weeks back I began the running plan again. Now I'm ALL IN again and doing very well (ran 24 miles last week).  Same thing with reading the Bible. I'm now in a great Genesis study and, though I'm not ALL IN with it, I am nearly there.

So my advice to you, Arkon, strictly from a physical health standpoint is as follows: Do it and do it ALL IN. This doesn't mean go crazy and give yourself heart failure, this means make a resolution, cross that threshold (it can even be artificial, pick a date: September 1. Next Sunday. Your most anticipated game's release date, whatever) and go for it.  If walking 1/10 of a mile hurts your knees. Walk 1/20th. Start somewhere.   If you're not self motivated (and I'm not when I'm ALL OUT) find a friend or USE THIS THREAD THAT YOU STARTED.  It could very well be your 'switch'.

Where you live? If it's close (probably not) I'll be ALL IN with you.

Finally look at it this way: If you start today or September 1, it's gonna be a bitch.  No doubt. But 3 months from now you'll be amazed at your progress. At 6 months you'll be overwhelmed by where you are. At a year (I've never made it that far <cough>) you'll be ...uh...SOMETHING slywink.

Just start.

Actually, now that I think about it, how does one save animated gifs to local and get them to play at will?

I've created a jpg of that last block:

Now how do I put it into a signature block (wouldn't use it here).  For example, if I put it on imageshack, how do I save it so that it looks good in a sig bar?

What a slow weekend gaming wise.  Only got in about an hour of gaming and spent that on the amazing Killer 7.

Had to go to bed early each night to build up energy for running.  Ah well, I guess I'm healthier. slywink frown
14685  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Killer 7: Um. on: August 21, 2006, 10:08:11 AM
I only got to spend about an hour total gaming this weekend and nearly all of it was on Killer 7.

I get the sense that I'm still not very far into it, but man I am all the way into it.

Not 'mu shu'!  But MU SHU! Into it.  If I had the time, I'd probably play this game from start to finish in just a couple of days.

I haven't leveled up anyone yet, cause I'm still trying to figure out the abilities of each.  I like Kaede the best so far because of the sniping.

It's like playing a graphic novel. I'm afraid I like it too much actually.

OK, where is the quotes button amongst all these smilies and such?!?

I'm in the process of building a portable PS2

Ahem. Please explain. What do you mean by portable? Please if possible, post pictures of your work. Sounds intriguing.

Question: Is the slimline not portable enough?  How would wanting to have a portable PS2 require you to move the buttons on the controller? Are you putting them on the console?!?  eek retard

Every SquareSoft and or Japanese RPG  Game, Including DragonQuest VIII,Chrono Trigger and
Shadow Hearts 1 and 2

Why do the game timers keep going when you have the game paused/in a menu/on the save screen? I don't know why, but my biggest nitpick of gaming right now is inaccurate game play timers.   thumbsdown

I was never directly asked my name. I was asked about me.  I've only regularly posted on 1/2 a dozen Internet forums (even less than that if you group GG, CG, GT, BC, and OO as one <no offense, KD>) but I've signed up for many. Never before has anyone asked me anything so personal or direct. What makes Qt3 so special that I should I divulge who I actually am? Only people I get to know and trust (or meet in person) get the scoop- or those who visit sites over time where I regularly post and read what I write.

That said, next time you're in Raleigh,  Tom, let's meet and we can have a sit down and I'll share with soul.

I'm not going to post on this anymore. I harbor no ill will and sincerely apologize if posting the exchange has done you wrong. Regardless, I appreciate your perspectives and the fact that you 'manned up' and posted at GT.  Good luck to you and Qt3.

ATB wasn't turned on based on him not really being willing to tell me who he was.

I beg to differ.  The link to Bovine Conspriacy clearly shows that I answered your questions repeatedly and had my responses ignored.

It's water under the bridge Tom. I'm still a fan.  No worries.

Bzzt! There's definitely an epsiode of the Transformers where Soundwave transforms into a Walkman sized player right outside Autobot headquarters and Spike picks him up and takes him in not realizing of course that he's a decepticon...despite the icon right on the front of it.

So proportion was never really an issue.  Also (was it Blaster?) also transformed into a boombox who could be carried on the shoulder.

First he won't let me into his forums and now THIS!?    :slywink:

BTW- Dissing Tom is ridiculous. He's a fabulous writer and as I said in the other thread, Three Finger Salute is one of the best monthly columns around (or was when I subbed to CGM).

Also, CGM is by far and away the best computer gaming magazine there is. The editing isn't always the best, but as someone else said, the articles are top notch and the columns are very well thought out and executed.  The fact that it has the smallest circulation is because it doesn't (or didn't- it's been a while) feature boobies and stories about porn or h0t ch1xx (other than Tom slywink).  I continued to subscribe to it well after I stopped gaming on the PC because of its quality.

If you're a PC gamer, you should at least buy a copy off the stands to check it out if not subscribe outright.

Oh and though Bauman's editorial control isn't all that tight, I think he runs the best magazine in the business regardless of gaming platform.

10.00 at EB.

Heard great things about it though the controls are seen as a weakness.

I spent about 30 minutes on this tonight and have questions:

1. WTF!?
2. Am I going to have nightmares tonight? If so, how bad will they be?
3. Has there ever been a game as stylish as this?
4. WTF?!

That is all.

One thing I completely forgot to mention is the virtual community surrounding gaming.

It's fluid, engaging and a sort of comradarie.  I think that also tips the scales in favor of the current gaming age too.

These types of threads kick up great discussion, so here we are.

We're into (1/3 of the way) the next gen (is it now current gen?). 2 new consoles are on the way. The 360 is rolling, the DS is hot as heck, the PSP is expected to land some great titles in the near future, the PC (as best as I can tell) has had some very interesting titles released recently (Civ 4, HL2 episodes, Titan's Quest, etc) the current (or past gen), at least via the PS2 still has lots of life in it (GH2, GoW2, some other major title I can't remember) and on and on.

Now of course I have great memories of some of the great classics on many systems in the past (the days of the Arcade were marvelous to me for example), but has there every been a time where there has been so much variety of consistently good quality games across so many systems?

Curious as to your thoughts.
