Dunno about you guys, but back in the days EB took returns, I was more eager to buy games at release than rent or read reviews, because if it turned out to be bad, I could always get my money back.  EB got alot more money out of me than they do now.

Back then it was the local babbages who took games back if we didn't like them. I never abused the policy.  If a game was good and I played through it, I kept it. But if it sucked, I took it back and got a refund. Toward the end of that policy I used to get shifty looks, but man I was a kid with limited resources and couldn't take the hit on a crappy game.  However, IIRC, Nintendo games were always non-returnable.  Am I wrong or was that just the retail stores?  Actually, now that I think about it, maybe NES games could be taken back when the console first hit and that policy receded over time.

I think this is the right forum.

As all may know, I exited PC gaming abruptly due to XBOX acquisition Christmas 2002.  Hence, my knowledge of what the basic minimum specs are for games is vastly out of date.  What's a typical game these days require for operation?

GS is being sued by their 'managers' because of the crap they are asked to despite having real no management authority.

There's also been lost of negative pub about their salesmanship tactics and extended warranty policies.

Unless you can right the ship by yourself, I'd avoid that hassle and find something else to do..
14446  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why Am I Even Interested in Buying This? on: September 01, 2006, 03:28:49 PM
I've only played part of one FF game and quit after 3 hrs. I have X in my backlog, but I saw a link to this on CAG.

I don't know that I'm going to get 12, but may now, just because of this cool leatherbound guide.

Sigh. I'm such a sucker.

It's in my cart, but I haven't checked out yet.  Grrr.

Comparatively, there are thirteen PC and PS2 titles.

I cannot believe how awesome the line up for the PS2 still is.  It's gonna be an awesome few months for that system (or continue to be).  Zounds!  3 sixty- what?

Oh and the DS is expecting some amazing releases too. <tee hee>

195.5 today. I'm probably a little lighter, but ate a big dinner and didn't do much running this week due to a hamstring issue and awaiting the arrival of my new shoes.

Still- did 92 miles in August. The most I've done in a hellah long time.

14450  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Weekend Playlist: 3 Day Variety 1/Sep/06 on: September 01, 2006, 01:53:29 PM
At last another 3 day weekend is here.  While typically these don't bode well for my gaming hours as I tend to do lots of work on the house, hopefully you'll be more successful at securing some:

Killer 7: Continues to hold my attention and rivet me to it's beautiful craziness
Dragon Warrior VIII: Hopefully I'll get some time with this. It has been a while

Phoenix Wright: I'm, I would guess, about 2/3 through the final case, so hopefully I'll close it out
Mario and Luigi: PiT: Again, I'd guess I'm about 9/10 through it so hopefully this one will get done too

I've notice the absolute neglect my one time favorite console has fallen into since the PS2 and DSL arrivals at my house in March and June respectively.  If I can muster the will I might try out a little Half-Life 2. But Probably not.

14459  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I've Been Meaning to Replay that... on: August 30, 2006, 06:21:37 PM
Games you've been meaning to go back to and replay

Robotech: Battlecry - My first console game of the modern era and still one of the best.

Ninja Gaiden - I wrote in Mar of 2004: "The best action game Iíve ever played.  I will be playing it again some time in the future."  Still haven't gotten there.

Gladius - I no longer own a copy, but I'd love to play through it again.

Disciples 2- I started it over in the past year, but stalled.  Would like to continue and eventually beat all the expansions

Diablo 2- Was hot for it for about 3 weeks 2 months ago.  Beat the first area and now it's sitting.

Fallout - Been meaning to replay this for years and years and years

Jagged Alliance 2- Almost beat it back in the bread and butter days of GG, but got bogged down.  Would love to play it if only to hear 'Perfect.' again.

14460  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: And then there were 10 on: August 29, 2006, 10:55:01 PM
Unfortunately, {one} of those titles {is} Jade Empire...

You got that right. Game sucked and as a result, Bioware is now a company whose titles require my seeing reviews first before I buy it.

Man it sucked.

It sucked so bad.

Oh and selling off the backlog rather than playing it doesn't really count as cleaning it out, imo.

4th story down.

2 months from the 'review', my observations are still accurate but I'm still pretty pleased.  I have the whole skin still on the DS and haven't tired of it yet.

It's not supposed to leave any residue when you do take it off, but I guess I'll find out at a later time.

Finally, I have no idea why the pictures all turned out so blurry...

It fits quite well.  I did a write up of it over on CAG complete with pics.

It looks pretty good, but imo, the outside sticker is the best one and it will remain long after I take the inner ones off.  It's worth the money if you want 'something' different.

I had trouble getting it to fit right because I'm a clumsy oaf and do not posses the hands of a surgeon- I actually stretched the skin a bit and had to do a couple of snips.

I've had it on a for a few months and still like it.

There's one with James Woods coming on CBS.  Shark is what it's called methinks.

Not much other than that though.

I'm very much against the weighing yourself daily thing because your weight will naturally fluctuate up and down and seeing it go up (or not down 'enough') can really be a frustration.  Just throwing that out there smile

My plan is to weigh myself daily and post it, simply for staying accountable, but I will then post weekly averages and that is what I am going to look at.  Since my weight will fluctuate some, I should be able to get a general feel for progress from the weekly average shouldn't I?

I understand the accountability aspect, but make sure that you take the daily weigh ins with a grain of salt.  You may bust your butt for 3 or 4 days in a row and not see any weight change for another week after it. It's so very odd. But keep at it.

Oh and take a before and after photo (for personal use) so that you track your progress that way too.

I got to sit down with this game for about an hour and 20 minutes last night.

The more I play it, the more I love it.  There's a great sense of isolation and loneliness between the various personalities and the way the 'level's' are organized.  It's rather harrowing but entirely compelling.

I have cobbled together the bits of story that have been given to me and I think 'understand' what there is to understand.  Also, the map interface makes sense now and I've almost figured out all of the game mechanics. I'm still not sure how to counterattack or how to use some of the less apparent special abilities (like down attack).

Sadly, I'll be heading out of town for a several days and the PS2 won't be making the trip (DSL will though), but man I want to play this game.

Oh and I have I mentione the style?
