Get the American version. A new obsession will begin in your house.

I still can't shake the impacts of that show in my life and it is 20 year later.

Then you're obviously not a Robotech fan from way back. Nor did you at one point believe that Rick Hunter had to have existed and that he was watching you to see if you qualified to be beamed aboard the SDF-4 to become a Veritech pilot. Nor did you pretend that your bicycle was a Cyclone and that when you got off of it you turned into body armor and were on covert missions to infiltrate the Zentraedi base (in this case a Giant supermarket). Nor, obviously, was Robotech the defining cartoon of your childhood.  Nor did you have a crush on, in turn, Lynn Minmei, Lisa Hayes, or Rook Bartley.

Pshaw to you!

Actually, nothing could be farther from the truth. icon_biggrin Ben Dixon's fate was the defining moment for me regarding animation in general (up to that point I believed no animated character could die), I had a massive crush on Miriya (always went for the Amazonian chicks), and wanted a Veritech somthing fierce. If given the chance to live in a sci-fi universe this would rank #2 behind Star Wars for me.

But the game still sucks. nod

HOW DARE YOU!

The only thing you're worthy of now is being strapped to the front of the SDF-1's main gun prior to a Zentraedi assault.

No no. That' too good for you! You need to be strapped to one of the Daedelus arms prior to ramming!

Rick Hunter: Whiteboyskim, you're clearly not good enough to be on my RDF.  ATB is clearly the type of man we're looking for to lead Skull Squadron!
ATB: Why thank you sir! I agree whole heartedly.  Want me to feed him to the Invid?
Rick Hunter:    That won't be necessary! I owe Breetai a house warming gift.  I bet he'd love a Whiteboyskim coaster.

14207  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Weekend Recap 23/Oct/06 on: October 23, 2006, 01:12:57 PM
Well, didn't find a great amount of time this weekend.

Had a good couple of sessions with Dead Rising, but man the save system IS a pain.  Was working through the same area over and over again to try to save 3 survivors. Moving forward I shan't be so meticulous.

Also finished one level in Battles of Prince of Persia.  Sadly no Killer 7.

Spent all day Sunday hanging shelves.

The 360 is turned on remotely by powering on a controller (hit the X logo). It takes a second, you don't need to hold it down.
You CAN turn off a wireless controller OR the console & controller(s) by holding the X logo for 3 seconds at any time when it's on. A menu appears on the right side and you choose from there.
I don't use this option generally; the play-n-charge kit doesn't charge if you turn it off this way. Hit the power button instead (while the controllers are plugged in). You'll note their charge lights stay on. Once they've charged it goes out. The 360 is still considered OFF during this power-off charge time, and no fans are running.

I continue to be impressed with the 360.  Dead Rising is a fun game and the dashboard is really neat.  The offerings on LIVE are far more limited than I expected, but whatever.

Is there a way to soft reboot?

In Dead Rising, there seems to be no way to go back out and load up the save game if you botch something.  Is there a soft reboot on the console a la PS2 and DSL? Or do I have to exit to dashboard and then go back in?

What's the point of Media Extender?  Why would I plug into my PC to watch TV through my PC/360 on my TV when I can just watch TV on my TV?

Is there a way to surf the web through Media Extender or is the sole functionality getting music on the 360 and viewing pictures?

Is there a snooze mode on Live where it logs you out after a certain period of time? It has only happened once, but I was playing Dead Rising and I got the pop up that I had disconnected.

Finally, is there a way to get more gamer pics without paying for them?

I've gotten two calls from Gamestop in the past two days.

The first was a customer service survey. Cool.

The second was an 'informational' ad that Talledaga Nights is going to be bundled with PS3. OMG!

Also, If I trade anything in toward the pay off of the console, I get an extra 20% in credit towards it.

So what if I trade in 10 games get that extra 20%, then they don't have a console for me and I cancel the pre-order? Does that mean I make money on the deal?

Outside of some gaming messageboards is there alot of hype?  And doesn't every console get hyped on gaming message boards?  I think it might be cool.  It will be different.  Does different automatically mean better?  Not necessarily.

Ditto. I started reading this thread and kept saying to myself, "What hype?".  People talk about it here and they talk about it on other boards, but I'm not hearing my fellow gaming friends slobber with anticipation of it (I personally only know 1 person that has it preordered) like I hear with the PS3.

My experience is the opposite in that I no nobody who cares about the PS3 due to it being perceived as too expensive and due to the limited supply.  I know plenty of people hyped about the Wii.

Then we run in very different circles. Most of my friends are 30+ IT guys that are "techies" I guess you would say.

So are mine.

Touche!

All my friends are nuns and convicts.  They're both equally excited for each console.

Sure, the post-hardcore (or as I like to call them, postcore) gamers are wetting their jaded Depends at the "INNOVATESHUN."  Pay them no heed -- in the face of the 360 and PS3, the Wii will inevitably disappoint.

Its affordable already though buddy. I can get you right now, at this very moment, links that show well performing, reliable, quality HDTV's, for $500.00 and if you want an LCD, hows about a 32" for $649.00?

That is still a ton of money for a TV. Specially when SD is 1/3 of the price.

Gonna Spend some time with Dead Rising, my first 360 game.  I keep starting over so that I can get the control scheme (and new controller) down...I also accidentally created two profiles and got some achievements on the one I deleted. Oh wells.

Have tried the demo for Smash TV and loved it. I loved that game back in the day. But...since I have no points I may not pull the trigger on it yet.

Finally, hope to log some time with Killer 7.

I'm a cheap ass through and through and try never to pay anywhere near full price unless there are extenuating circumstances.

I will pay full price gladly for GH2 in november.  I paid more than full price for Phoenix Wright.
I paid full price for Castlevania on DS (still haven't played it).

But usually I hit a sale, use a coupon, wait, or just adopt stuff later in its run and by that time there's much out there sub original msrp.

Nothing is as good as the hype because we as gamers are lemmings.  Something comes out. We get lathered up at the potential. It hits and even if it's amazing it's never as good as our disproportionate hope.

Whe Wii is going to be fun and a huge success, but I have intentionally ratcheted back the attention I pay to it so that anything from here on in is a pleasant surprise.
