Biggest Loser starts right now! I love this show.

Watch it for more inspiration!

I'm about and hour in and so far it's neat, but I'm not loving it.  There's lots of potential but I'm just not in the OMGITSAWESOME stage yet.

And now that Biggest Loser is on, I probably won't touch it again until tomorrow.

It always takes me a long time to finish RPGs because I play this way (KOTOR took me a little over 90 hours), although I can't imagine doing it any other way - probably a holdover from the old RPGs where you had to talk to everyone multiple times just to know where to go next.

You and Starshifter are the RPG dream team then. He also takes a long time to complete them. In fact, IIRC, he won't run in a KOTOR game cause it's not what a Jedi would do.  He's the greatest.  icon_biggrin

I like it a lot, but the random battles sure do get me down sometimes.

QFT- I don't like using the holy water too often as I feel I might miss out on important experience points. But man when all you want to do is get to a save point, it can be a bummer.

Incidentally why do you leave it on?

I'm about at the same point - I'm just about to get the ship - and I'm at 55 hours.  That's nothing compared to Dragon Quest 7, though, which can easily take 120+ hours just to finish the main story, without doing side quests  eek

Whoa whoa whoa!? How'd it take you 55 hrs to get the boat? I did some pretty good exploration and I don't know how you're almost exactly at double my time.

Did you spend a lot of time on the monster arena?
14207  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Okami impressions on: September 20, 2006, 05:31:06 PM
Ok. I couldn't wait!

I booted it up and the opening cinematic is gorgeous.

The 'voice' of the narrator though is going to get real grating if it's used a lot though.

On into gameplay!

Harumph.  I meant to publish this 20 minutes ago. Silly warning about subsequent posts!

It might be that I've been anticipating this game for so long, but reading the manual has gotten me even more exciting. I have a meeting in 20 minutes and then I should be able to get a solid half hour in with it!
14209  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Okami impressions on: September 20, 2006, 03:52:45 PM
I wasn't gonna start on it until I finished DQVIII. Turns out I have about 70 more hrs to go.  retard  Hence, it's backburnered and Okami is king for now.

After calling everywhere and their mother 'shipment's not in' I struck gold at Gamecrazy.

Game is in my hands and I'll fire it up over lunch.

Manual is thick (for a console) and weighs in at 40 pages.  Looks like it explains some of the mythology, who  the gameplay and gives to obligatory tips..

Oh and it smells really nice too...smells like....love.

2 questions:

1. How come Okami isn't in any of the ads this week? Does this mean the store isn't getting it, or does it just mean they don't care about its release
2. If the ship date is tomorrow, when will I actually be able to buy it in stores?

Running is high impact, generally best avoided.  Speedwalking is good, running on a treadmill is good because treadmills are much lower impact due to their cushion mechanisms.  Stair stepping is excellent, as is swimming.

I know far far too many people with serious long term damage from running. My childrens pediatrician can barely walk at 50 because of 1-2 miles per day running for 10 years.

I'm aware of the danger, but it's the only exercise I enjoy. I have a 1500.00 treadmill sitting behind me (which has been moderately used) but it's far too difficult and boring to run long distances on it. This particular marathon training session is directly in response to my high cholesterol (261) and weight gain (20 lbs in a year). I supposed it's a damned if you do/don't situation.

I'm hoping this bout of fitness will create in me a lifestyle change rather than just be another cycle.  I know many people who have run with no difficulties their entire lives, though I doubt I'll be one of them. Still, I have to ride this horse as long as I can...I don't know what else to do otherwise...

193 as of this morning.  That's 13 lbs off my all time high.

I've had some really good eating days and it appears that I'm in the zone in that regard at least for now.

Ran 15.5 miles yesterday, so hopefully that will contribute to additional losses over the next day as I rest my legs for another 10 or so tomorrow.

Woohoo. What neutral state should have it in?

Just so I have skin in the game, I'll fight both of you at the same time first.  Of course my fighting consists of you two standing very close to each other, me pointing behind you and saying 'Hey it's Miyamoto giving away free Wiis!' and then promptly dashing off into a ten mile run.

Wonder if its possible to copy the files from the SD to a PC for storage. Then just recopy the games you want to play. That way you dont need lots of different SD cards.

I know it would work in theory but not sure if any DRM it might use would make it not work, though since its back into the same Wii maybe it wouldnt be any issue.

Hmmm....

Now that is a very interesting theory. That'd be awesome if it worked...I'm doubtful though.

If you can drop pictures and things on the SD card for the Wii to display that means that a PC (or Mac) has to be able to read what's on the card.  And that means that the card is probably formated with a standard file system (FAT or FAT32 I think).  I guess this doesn't have to be true.  But I imagine that if a PC can't read the data on the card naitively, someone may write a program that will be able to read the data and pull it off to a hard drive.

I would be you're right. It's so obvious...unless N pulls a Sony and makes it some kind of proprietary file system so that you can only view them on the Wii...

I have deep respect for Nintedo.  But without the handheld market they would be dead in the water.  I applaud them for trying to bring a new angle to the home console market as well.  The path they took with the Wii was realistically the only way they could go.  I think the Wii will be massively popular in Japan.  I am am skeptical about North America though.  I hope I am wrong.  Sony and Microsoft need a company like Nintendo to keep them honest.

Alot of people my age identify Nintedo's characters with the golden age of gaming because that is what they started out with.  Somwhere along the way alot of people started identifying with Halo, GTA, Metal Gear Solid and Madden in THEIR golden age of gaming.  Those are the people Nintendo has to reach with the Wii, I have serious doubts that they will.  But time will tell.

Now that was a great post and I think it's spot on. Nintendo would definitely be in deep trouble (if not gone) if it weren't for the handheld.  Luckily it's there.

Your last paragraph rings very true as well and my position is that they will do just that.
