It's also different playing the game for the first time now as opposed to in 1993(?) when it came out.  Even games that hold up really well aren't going to be as good now as when they came out, relatively speaking.

I played Chrono Trigger on the PS2 this year- my first experience with it and I didn't notice any terrible load times.

The load times are going into and out of the menu.  It usually takes several seconds.

Ahh several...seconds.  Of course. I shall go and destroy my copy of the game now.  retard :icon_confused: icon_wink

I've basically taken the week off from running.

First, because I have no motivation at all to take off on anything longer that 5 miles so why bother.  Plan to start up again tomorrow with...a 5 miler.  disgust
Second, I've been overwhelmingly tired despite pretty solid sleep lately
Third, tangientially, but most importantly, my left leg is still bothering me. Not a good place to be just over a month from a 26.2 mile jog.

I've also really relaxed my eating standards this week, so I fully expect to feel the impacts of that on the scale next week.

We'll see though.

While I was playing it it was captivating fun and a neat story.  It more than holds up. It's an example that should still be emulated.

Naturally, the topic stems from my playing the beautiful Okami.

But I've also been working through Killer 7, which is a stunningly achievement in stylized gaming.

Other great artistic games, imo:

MDK series. It was uniquely whacky and wholely underappreciated. Both games, but especially the second, were beautiful

Giants: Citizen Kabuto- Again, whacky, but a great artisitic style that has stuck with me.

Phoenix Wright: True, it's pretty much straight anime, but it works so perfectly.  I love how the characters were drawn and how their reaction animations fit their personalities perfectly.  My favorite character, Damon Gant is just something to behold.

ATB - godhood is that little wolf-icon in the bottom-left-hand corner of the screen during battles.  There are 4 different levels - green basically gives you 3 free hits until you start taking damage and the order of best-to-worst is green -> yellow -> red -> skull.  I think there are 4.  I may be adding that red...but either way, running away from battles and drowning in water decrease your godhood.  Combo's increase it.

So you should only use it in battles?  Looks like I've wasted at least 2 of em.

What about the guy asking for one?

My gaming time is extremely limited, so wandering around for hours with only vague hints of what to do next will make me quit playing a game faster than anything else.

Agreed 100% and this is why I quit Ocarina of Time after only a few hours: I had no idea where to go or what to do. But to Kevin's point there should be an option to turn hints on or off. Surely designers can make it so the dialogue has more help based substance when such an option on rather than when it's off. Shadow of the Colossus is another example of too much hand holding.

Anyhew, I hope to get some time in with Okami tonight, but it doesn't look good.

I don't remember the name of the mission, but the mission that stumped me for the longest time was the one where you get three teams of two CO's, each starting in a completely separate part of the map, and the middle of the map has the main capitol for the enemy.  There's also this major cannon at the top of the map pointing south with a huge area of effect.  If the enemy captures a single missile silo, it's game over for the good guys.

I had the hardest time putting a stop to the guys on the right portion of the map, they kept managing to get a missile silo off me and ending the mission.  Then, even when I got past that point, I had a tough time cracking into the enemy capitol area.  I don't remember if the mission was timed or not; I know there were one or two timed missions that gave me a little trouble.

The one you're talking about is during the campaign and yes that one gave me difficulty too.  Your memory is correct in that the first part of that mission is timed as you have to blow up the satellite within 50 minutes- the added caveat as you mentioned, is that if any one of the silos is captured the mission's over.  Once you blow the satellite though, the time requirement ends.  I wonder if there will be another Advance Wars...

Yeah this must be the weekend that everyone has a tough time.

Started with the Pampered Chef party friday night- SO delicious.

I've basically been eating poorly and in larger quantities than normal ever since.  Also, to nurse my shin and hamstring, I didn't do a long run this weekend.

Only ran 4 miles this morning as my lack of nutritional foods robbed me of my energy stores.

I'm sure I've gained at least 2...possibly 3 lbs.

With just over a month left before the marathon, it doesn't look good for me to get to about 180 prior to the race unless I redouble my discipline and avoid any more weekends (or single days) like this.

I probably won't weigh in until Wednesday as I try not to weigh myself on running days.

ATB, just curious but have you played any Zelda games before?

I played the original Zelda and still remember the exact moment when I beat Gannon.

I tried Adventures of Link, but hated the complete perspective change and overhaul of gameplay.

I pretty much abandoned consoles after the Genesis.

Tried to play Ocarina of Time in 2003, but as seems to be typical in the big mario/zelda games,  I got lost/stuck and couldn't figure out where to go and gave up after only a few hours (I know I should attempt this one again...).

I'm looking forward to Twilight Princess and definitely will be trying Phantom Hourglass when it hits DS.

Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis looks like fun, but I have to start saving up for Wii.  Oh and if I could stop buying games that take 100+ hrs to complete (DQVIII- I'm 1/3 of the way through it) have unlimited replay value (Advanced Wars DS) I might actually get to work on my backlog. Buying Okami last week added apparently another 30 hrs to it  Tongue.

Next game I'm likely to buy is Bully in October...Then GH II in Nov.  Gah.

Looking over that list a second time, I still only see 1 game I want to play.

I have this horrid vision of the Wii becoming like the DS, with legions of really really BAD games, and maybe 6-10 really good ones.  Droves of hits like "Cooking Super Mama" and "Sister puzzle cutefry" being shoved out left and right.

My whole mood on the Wii went from excitement to, ", that looks lame".   crybaby

I'm not sure you're grasping the concept of Wii or DS. Sounds like you're looking for the same ole same ole. The Wii is charting new territory as did the DS before it.  I think you might be more contented with a 360/PS3 as they are just upgrades of everything we've played before.

To echo KG, if the Wii has nearly the amount of quirky absolutely fun games the DS has, I'll be chuffed.

I also got some time with Okami and am pleased that it's starting to click with me.  I didn't get much time with it as it was a very busy weekend with house work, a pampered chef party and various other things.
