Well to be fair to myself, my deleted folder resides on my HD and outlook doesn't query me to empty it.

We have a 45 day retention policy on the servers, but anything we bring down to the local drive can stay forever.

I have gigs and gigs of mail saved.

While usually there's nothing important to be kept, there are plenty of times that I wish we could actually save something in our e-mail box.

If you're using Outlook, just create a mail folder on your local drive and copy it down to your HD.

I'm just over 7 hrs into it now and it's still quite absorbing.  I wouldn't quite yet give it the A grade yet, but I really enjoyed the big boss battle (while searching for the dog) and the log shooting down the waterfall was fun (if a bit frustrating).

Right now it's a B+.

I do LOVE how many things there are to collect and explore for- though I doubt I'll get them all.

Are we sure that John Woo didn't direct this?

I've heard there's a scene towards the end where 8 Persians surround four Spartans (who each have 2 spears) and the movie pauses as each spartan points a spear at two different Persians while the Perisans have their swords pointed at the Spartans.  Then some white doves fly over, one of the Persians panics and pulls the trigger on his sword and everyone starts killing eachother.

And to clarify, are you done with a game when you are no longer interested in playing it, when you've completed the main storyline (excluding any side missions if available), or when you've achieved all of the achievements that could be reasonably achieved (excluding ridiculous ones like 'be #1 on the leaderboard for this game').

Every game I buy, I have the intention of playing it all the way through until the story is over, the credits roll and any surprises after the credits occur.  Then a game is done.  Games like Brain Age with no solid ending just reach a point where it's no longer fun or interesting (for Brain age specificially it was 5 weeks or so).

On a very rare occaison, will I pop a game and be done with it after just a few hours and never touch it again: Soul Caliber II, FF VII and (possibly) Animal Crossing WW come to mind.

Within a 4 week timespan, there is the next Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty 3, and GoW.

Only CoD3 interests me on that list as GoW is already purchased.  So hurraya for me!

Well, the Shadow Hearts fans seemed to have enjoyed Enchanted Arms.  So if you're not jaded to the very core of your being regarding RPGs (or to put it another way, if you can handle patches of mediocrity), that might be a meaty first title choice.

There's Dead Rising, of course.  If you love zombies and/or causing hideously/hilariously gory carnage, it's a must-buy.  If you hate save points, timed anything, or the notion of replaying levels more than once, don't buy it.  If you both love and hate, rent it.

The only zombie exposure I have, really, is Shaun of the Dead which I loved.  The save game system on DR is causing this to be a purchase at some time down the road when it's cheap.  As for enchanted arms, i really need to stop buying RPGs for a while as I have many in my backup and the time commitment to play them is prohibitive to this contest (for me)  icon_biggrin

GoW shouldn't spend too much time in your backlog - it's supposed to be only ~10 hours long.

No, no, no!  Epic's Mark Rein took great pains to express that the rumors of it only being 10 hours is completely untrue.  It's actually 12 hours!  This 10 hours stuff is a complete misrepresentation!  [/sarcasm off].

10-12 hours is almost a perfect length for me.  15-20 is perfect.

13855  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / One Game At a Time: Updated. Backlog Pared Significantly! on: October 05, 2006, 08:57:00 PM
The 360 has not arrived yet (and if Amazon is accurate, it won't be here until mid- November), so that gives me some time to play my existing systems.

I intend GoW to be my first game on this console and I intend for it to be my ONLY game, until I've finished it.

I, vow, before all of my GT brothers, that I will not have a backlog for this console. EVER.

I've purchased two consoles this year already: PS2 and DSL.

PS2 backlog is currently: 10 Games (with probably 300 hrs of gameplay)

DSL backlog is currently: 8 games  (with probably 150 hrs of gameplay) <7 if you don't count Animal Crossing which I played for about 2 hrs and will probably never touch again>

Did I mention that I had an XBOX already?

XBOX Backlog is currently: 10 games (with probably 150 hrs of gameplay)

So, that said, I will not have more than one game at any point of time being actively played on the 360.

Caveats:

  • If someone purchases me a game as a gift or sends me a game for free that will not count against the tally
  • XBOX Live arcade games may or may not count- I'm not familiar enough with what they actually are yet and will solicit you're advice as to whether they should.
  • If I complete or sell three (3) titles from my existing 3 console backlog, I am allowed to purchase one XBOX 360 game that is $30.00 or less + shipping
  • Open/Multi-player games will count toward the tally, but my judgement will determine whether an appropriate gameplay to cost ratio has been established (I don't forsee my buying many, if any of these)
  • Purchases of games for any other console do not count against the tally. Come on! Bully and GH2 are coming out!
  • Purchase of the Wii, any Wii accessories or any Wii games will not count against the tally

Contest:  If I buy an additional game for the 360 before I have completed the one in active play, I will buy one lucky person who posts in this thread a game of their choosing up to $60.00 + shipping.

Contest will be void upon completion or sale of all backlog games for other consoles. Caveats subject to change/revision (without changing over all contest parameters) based on suggestions from GT readers

After you answer the above... another set of questions:

It looks like the ends of those cables are terminated...so I won't need any additional tools to terminate them, correct?

If yes, when I feed them down into the wall, should I take the ends off to avoid damage or just drop em down?

How do the jacks connect to the wall plates? Just pop em in?

Any particular reason you chose orange cables?  icon_wink

I'm thinking 50 ft of cable should be more than enough...any reason to get 100?

All companies that might EVER be involved in any sort of litigation or dispute should have a very specific and detailed document retention policy that tells all employees how and when to delete old emails.  Employees should then hew to that policy precisely.  Anything else is, these days, courting disaster.

And believe me, for every email you're glad you still have, I've seen one that people wish was deleted in the routine course of business.

My secret to never being exposed is to keep everything in the deleted folder. Then, should the time come, people will be pouring over my email and not find a thing.

FBI guy 2: Why would I check in there? Everything's deleted.

There was a small issue that could have resulted in big problems and it was possible that it was my fault for not completing the task.

However, a quick check of emails from 6 months ago proves that I passed the task (with my portion completed) off to someone else.

Ok in chatting with my dad I think I have a solution (not necessarily due to his insights, but where they took me  Tongue).

I hope I can explain this:

Above the TV room is the classroom where we home school.  In this room there is a network jack (rarely used) and a tv jack.  When they wired the house originally, the forgot to put the tv jack in the tv room, so they spliced the cable from the classrom and ran it down into the tv room.

What I'm thinking is that I can repeat this same process with the network cable as follows:

I run the TVC (tv cat 5 cable) down into the wall of the classroom terminating one end there.

I run the other end of the TVC next to where the pros ran the coax (will have to drill a bigger hole) and terminate the other end there into a network jack.

Back in the clasroom, I place my Netgear print server (which is currently not being used) and plug the TVC in there thus creating the following wiring scheme:

Cisco switch in Office <---direct line to---> Classroom <---direct line to ---> Print server <---TVC---> to TV room.

Questions:

Will the fact that it is a print server and not a switch result in what you described above (waiting for optimized 'traffic patterns'?)
Would I be better off with a switch in the classroom?  I'd only need 2 or 3 ports? Are they available that small/cheap?

Overall what you think?

13870  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Running Cat 5 Cable? on: October 05, 2006, 02:12:04 PM
I have absolutely no idea how to run a cable from the attic, through the wall of my master bedroom (which is directly above my office) and down into the wall of my office.  I can't see any existing cable, as I'm guessing they ran it through the floor before it was put in.

How do I determine where the heck I am in the attic in conjunction with where I want the cable to come down in my office?  After that, how do I burrow through the floor in the master bedroom (one can assume there is a layer of plywood or stud inbetween the floors) once I get there?
