Certainly not as slick as the 360, but people need to keep in mind that the reason the buttons are so big is because you will be using the wiimote to navigate.

Why do the buttons need to be big, I thought the WiiMote was gonna be super sensitive?

Ease of use?

Wombat on the Cagcast had enormous difficulties (not as bad as you) and he basically got to the point where he called in and said "I want free stuff.' and they gave him a choice of PGR3 or Kameo.

13779  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Gamers with families, how do you manage playing time on: October 13, 2006, 10:47:20 AM
I'd say I probably play between 3-8 hrs a week.  Most of that time is on the DS during visits to the library, but I can usually sneak in an hour here and there on a consle after the kids have gone to bed.

I used to get almost all of my gaming time in on Friday and Saturday nights when I'd stay up until 1 AM or so (I know crazy late!). However, I'm not able to stay up late on the weekends and game right now due to marathon training (what was I thinking...again?!) but that ends at the end of the month.

We're not big tv people either- our totals this week are in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours so I don't lose much time to that.

My time is so limited and I have such a backlog, I don't know why I'm even getting a 360...

13781  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Weekend Playlist 13/Oct/06 on: October 13, 2006, 10:41:39 AM
I don't know about you, but this week flew by for me despite the fact that I haven't had one good night's sleep.

This weekend sees me finishing up the cabling job for the X360's pending arrival (super shout out to Purge for his help), my son's first birthday bash on saturday and then an evening with PR_GMR, Tareeq and possibly Ralph Wiggam and Captain Caveman.

As for gaming, I'll probably play just Battles of Prince of Persia. I'm on mission 17 of 24. While the story isn't super and the AI isn't perfect (like Advanced Wars DS), I must say again, I'm loving playing it.

Might also get some time in with Killer 7. Possibly Okami if the mood strikes.

You wouldn't understand.  It's a Mars thing.

As for never tasting coffee: I've accidentally tasted it in ice cream. Blech. But as for the real thing it has two strikes against it:

1. I don't care for any hot drinks at all.  Same for cereal.  I like warm cider in the winter once or twice, but scalding hot stuff just doesn't do it for me
2. The smell: I like it some times but some times it is just so gross I don't know what to do.

Yeah - maybe it's nostalgia but every time one of those tracks from Appetite hit my stereo in random play it gets me stoked.  Some great stuff on there - not really the radio stuff, though.

Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle, Rocket Queen, It's So Easy, Nightrain, Out Ta Get Me... all great tunes.

Still one of my favorite bands despite their antics and eventual implosion.  Along with Appetite, the two Use Your Illusions still get regular playing time on my CD player.

Use your illusion had some good songs but it seemed to me they were 'trying too hard' on it whereas AfD just seemed to flow out of them...

I think the PSP is relevant, but the conclusion I draw from that is different.

Is the DS beating the PSP? Yes.
But look at it this way:

What was Nintendo's percentage of handheld marketshare prior to introduction of the PSP?
What is their percentage since the introduction of the PSP?
I've got to think Sony has put a pretty decent dent in those numbers, and just because the PSP isn't the clear "winnah" doesn't mean that it isn't a success. ESPECIALLY given that the development for the device (PSP) has been kind of lackluster, with few titles that really seem like they were made from the ground up just for the PSP.

I guess that's a logical conclusion when N used to have 100% and they now have just 98.9%.

So indeed PSP has had...an impact.

Good Heavens!  A 2 liter per day +?!?!?!?!

Given how the poll has turned out I'm not surprised, but I am surprised at the poll itself.  I can't fathom downing 7+ sodas a week.

Admittedly though, it has been difficult going 12 days without one. Not because of withdrawls, but because, as I said, Mt Dew just compliments some meals in my mind.

Interestingly, though, cutting back on sodas has seen me cutting back on milk as well. I'm not sure of the correlation.

I just realized something.

jblank claims he's buying (and selling) his PS3 to make money to buy a ring for his wife.

In order for jblank to actually earn enough money off his PS3 to add to his total for the ring, his PS3 will have to sell for AT LEAST $1260.

How do I figure?

jblank has to pay for the PS3 from the store.  That's $630.

The first $630 of the PS3 money from eBay goes to repaying the credit card bill for the console.

The next $630 gets jblank up to the amount of money he would still have in his pocket if he hadn't bought the PS3 to begin with.

Ergo, in order to make this venture worth his while, he HAS to sell the PS3 for at least $1260.

If he doesn't, he's wasting his time, as he'll actually have less money available for the ring than he would have if he hadn't bought the PS3.

A 100% markup.  That will be quite impressive.

Appetite is one of the greatest rock albums of all time.  There's no doubt about that. And GNR wasn't GNR without Axl.

However, upon hearing it so many years hence, one wonders- if not for his writing ability- how he got the job in the first place.  His voice is...uh...nails on a chalkboard sometimes.

That said, the best part about that album is the complex arrangements within the songs. There's just SO much going on at any one point and from what I understand Izzy had a lot to do with that even more so than Axl or anyone else...

I know that some shows still haven't rolled out yet, but most of the ones that I had any interest in have premiered (or I've missed them and don't care enough).

The only show thus far that I will be following long term is Friday Night Lights.  The writing is great, the tension levels appropriate, the acting superb and the characters are well developed.  I really enjoyed the movie (often shaking my head in disbelief) and the show is shot like mini movies each week.

Brilliant!  thumbsup
