No one in Raleigh seems to have it on shelves yet. SO ANXIOUS.

The video review on Gamespot is neat!

I'm so battling against my pocketbook whether I should buy this day 1 or wait for a sale.  mad I'm 28 hrs into DQVIII and it's very appealing for me to go back to it since it has been over a month since I've played it...but man...Okami is calling calling calling.

2 questions:

1. How come Okami isn't in any of the ads this week? Does this mean the store isn't getting it, or does it just mean they don't care about its release
2. If the ship date is tomorrow, when will I actually be able to buy it in stores?

Running is high impact, generally best avoided.  Speedwalking is good, running on a treadmill is good because treadmills are much lower impact due to their cushion mechanisms.  Stair stepping is excellent, as is swimming.

I know far far too many people with serious long term damage from running. My childrens pediatrician can barely walk at 50 because of 1-2 miles per day running for 10 years.

I'm aware of the danger, but it's the only exercise I enjoy. I have a 1500.00 treadmill sitting behind me (which has been moderately used) but it's far too difficult and boring to run long distances on it. This particular marathon training session is directly in response to my high cholesterol (261) and weight gain (20 lbs in a year). I supposed it's a damned if you do/don't situation.

I'm hoping this bout of fitness will create in me a lifestyle change rather than just be another cycle.  I know many people who have run with no difficulties their entire lives, though I doubt I'll be one of them. Still, I have to ride this horse as long as I can...I don't know what else to do otherwise...

193 as of this morning.  That's 13 lbs off my all time high.

I've had some really good eating days and it appears that I'm in the zone in that regard at least for now.

Ran 15.5 miles yesterday, so hopefully that will contribute to additional losses over the next day as I rest my legs for another 10 or so tomorrow.

Wonder if its possible to copy the files from the SD to a PC for storage. Then just recopy the games you want to play. That way you dont need lots of different SD cards.

I know it would work in theory but not sure if any DRM it might use would make it not work, though since its back into the same Wii maybe it wouldnt be any issue.

Hmmm....

Now that is a very interesting theory. That'd be awesome if it worked...I'm doubtful though.

If you can drop pictures and things on the SD card for the Wii to display that means that a PC (or Mac) has to be able to read what's on the card.  And that means that the card is probably formated with a standard file system (FAT or FAT32 I think).  I guess this doesn't have to be true.  But I imagine that if a PC can't read the data on the card naitively, someone may write a program that will be able to read the data and pull it off to a hard drive.

I would be you're right. It's so obvious...unless N pulls a Sony and makes it some kind of proprietary file system so that you can only view them on the Wii...

I have deep respect for Nintedo.  But without the handheld market they would be dead in the water.  I applaud them for trying to bring a new angle to the home console market as well.  The path they took with the Wii was realistically the only way they could go.  I think the Wii will be massively popular in Japan.  I am am skeptical about North America though.  I hope I am wrong.  Sony and Microsoft need a company like Nintendo to keep them honest.

Alot of people my age identify Nintedo's characters with the golden age of gaming because that is what they started out with.  Somwhere along the way alot of people started identifying with Halo, GTA, Metal Gear Solid and Madden in THEIR golden age of gaming.  Those are the people Nintendo has to reach with the Wii, I have serious doubts that they will.  But time will tell.

Now that was a great post and I think it's spot on. Nintendo would definitely be in deep trouble (if not gone) if it weren't for the handheld.  Luckily it's there.

Your last paragraph rings very true as well and my position is that they will do just that.

Irrelevant.  Let's see... a statement claiming a product's success in no uncertain terms, before it's release, without allowing for the possibility of failure, and without actually having used said product.

That's pretty much a textbook "fanboy" response.

Personally, I hope they succeed.  I hope the Wii control scheme catches on with millions of non-gamers, and the trusty old franchises capture the imagination of lots of 20/30 somethings that haven't touched a console since the NES.  But I recognize the possibility that it very well may not - Nintendo is taking a big risk here, and with risk comes the chance of failure. To simply say you can't see that possibility is naive at best.

Let's revisit in a year.

So it would be easier to have all of the networks, the airlines and the entire government be lying than to believe 15 people came up with something to get press?  saywhat

If the buildings were pulled via demolitions, that leaves several possible explanations, the two most logical (based on motives) being: the terrorists planted bombs as well or someone in the government arranged it (be it the military, intelligence, or at the behest of the administration).

Unfortunately, we now know that Marvin Bush (GW's cousin), was princple of the company in charge of WTC security, and there was at least 2 large powerdowns of the building which rendered cameras inoperable leading up to 9/11. (both on 9/8 and 9/9 as indicated in reports from the IT departments of various floors who had to handle the power up conditions of the servers)

This complicated of a mission only took several months in into GWBs term to plan and execute? Especially considering they had to pay off THOUSANDS of people to keep quiet?

Ok, let me ask you this; do you REALLY think the average 13 year old snot nosed kid wants to play games with a throwing motion? I don't, and I doubt he does either. Add to it that all his friends will have a PS3 and 360, which are shiner, flashier systems, with more internet integration, and I say hands down the Wii loses when its stacked up against those other consoles, with most people out there.

I say the reverse of this is true.  Those with 360s and PS3s will see the kid with the Wii having a helluva good time while they're stuck doing the same old thing.  Kids love new technology which is another huge selling point for Wii.

You Nintendo fans (and I say that without malice and in a non-smarmy way) are thinking like enthusiasts, which is what most of us are, and not like average consumers, who know the Playstation and XBOX, and will be leery of "novelties" like this funky controller, and will be put off to an extent when they see the Wii games side by side against PS3 and 360 games. Hell, I'm an enthusiast and I admit the controller turns me off a bit, though I will reserve judgement for the time being.

So if it was the government's idea, what was the motivation? To invade Iraq?  To send the country into recession?  Perhaps is was all big oil's fault.  Of course in game planning they didn't think that such an event would raise gas prices so astronomically it would virtually bring about the bankrupting of two of the big 3 auto manufacturers.

How would they get the airlines' complicit agreement to subject themselves to trillions of dollars in losses?

Who would they get to pilot the planes?  Did the people who died on the planes not really exist?  Was the pilot an inflatable doll a la Airplane and they were remote controlled into the buildings?

Why would they hit the pentagon? To get the army fired up?  I bet Clinton actually hated Al Gore so much the original plan was that the pentagon plane was to hit the white house and shut him up as well as his harpie wife. But then, the Supreme Court (despite also being in on the plan) feinted and put Bush in the white house. Can't kill the republican pres or else we'll be found out!  Change the target to the pentagon!

Has anyone read anything about file saves or anything of that nature on the Wii? I'm curious if I need to start shopping for a deal on an SD card now in order to ease the total costs on launch day.

13754  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Do graphics matter that much? on: September 15, 2006, 01:37:20 PM
I believe graphics are very important, and will occaisionally base a game purchase on whether they're good or not. But I learned that chasing the graphics cycle is a lose/lose proposition (at least on the PC).

That said though- in the name of graphics, I have spent a ton of money (graphics cards for PC) and missed whole generations of gameplay.

I never bought a GBA because I thought 'Man, those graphics suck.'  Look at all the fun I missed because of that bias.

I prefer innovation over graphics 90 times out of 100.  That's why I went with the DS over the PS2...er PSP and why I will make the Wii my first next gen console.

The reasons people cite for preference of xbox (online play, points etc) are innovations of a sort, that's for sure.  But a prettier 3rd person shooter/FPS/RPG/action game is still just a revision of something we've already played.  The Wii is a whole new paradigm.
