This game was praised from up in the rafters.
True, I'm only about 3 missions in and have control of only one guy, but what's all the hub-ub bub? Does it get better? I mean I can only flank and kill so many times before I think this is Full Spectrum Warrior redux.
Plus, I feel so hemmed in by the designers. I see a perfect flanking opportunity, and it's blocked by a fence that I, as an elite 101st airborne paratrooper, cannot jump over. Does it get better?

I'm going the other way on this one. I love Charlie's story, but I thought this was one of the worst episodes they've had. Sure, saving the baby has great potential, but the whole baptism thing was way out of place and preposterous. (BTW- the show's baptism definition is all wrong....)
It seems to me they are begining to villify Locke a bit now. Some of the camera angles made him look sinister. Glad he gave charlie a beat down though...it was an appropriate response given the circurmstances.

Glad you like it. I couldn't stand Jade Empire. One of the most disappointing gaming experiences I can remember. My mini- self review: Was an absolute struggle to complete this game. Bioware is now on the watch and wait list. No heart. Didn’t care about my character. Ugh, very disappointed.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gaming in Hi Def: How do I tell the difference?
|
on: January 09, 2006, 02:13:32 AM

|
Hi all.
I just got a new HD tv and have properly connected the xbox to it using the proper HD adapter and turned on the HD options in the xbox.
Now, how do I tell the difference between the appearance of the game in HD mode vs regular mode?
Is something supposed to be crisper? Sharper? Are there tell tale signs that it's HD vs regular picture?
Also, one game I checked, KOTOR 2 is VERY dark. What's that about? The other games I've checked seem fine, but KOTOR 2 is almost unplayable because it's so hard to see what's going on.. thoughts?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Playing XBOX on a Laptop?
|
on: December 21, 2005, 01:20:02 PM
|
|
Hi all- As I prepare to move, I'll be needing an interim way to get my XBOX fix. Any way to play it through a laptop?
I have a an Angel TV tuner for my Dell 9300 laptop that plugs in via USB 2.0.
The tuner as an S vid input and two audio inputs.
Is it possible to use the SVID and audio inputs to send my XBOX signal into my laptop?
If so, how would I get xbox images to be 'associated' with a channel so that the laptop will recognize it as such?
Anyone tried this before?
It's only a temporary situation, obviously, but since I'm on the market for a TV and I research everything to the nth degree, it may be a while before I actually own one...
Thanks.

So, I waited and waited for my December issue of OXM to arrive, but it never did. Yesterday, I revieved January's ish, which pretty much confirms the no-show. Any idea on who I can contact to rectify this situation? I'm not keen on paying for a subscription if I'm not getting the issues.
Oh, and my account is paid in full, has been for months, so it isn't that. Let me recap on the December issue: BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY. Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox 360 Defective Rate Normal for New Hardware - 3%

I doubt Atari had a 3% failure rate. My 2600 was helluva tough and all you had to do to fix any problem was to hit the reset switch.
I bet somewhere, some kid is playing the holla out of that thing right now. MS can kiss Atari's supremacy's butt, ya heard?!
Oh and my Burgertime handheld still works 20 years later. I doubt those had anything near a 3% failure rate.
Still more proof that M$ make garbage electronics.
Finally, I had taco bell the other day. A Grilled Stuft Burrito. Not one of those has ever failed me.
I think there's a lesson for the MS in there too. They r teh suxx0r. TB = teh m2xx0r!

I don't like it.
Too busy. Too much information clutter. Shorter articles BIG! BIG! BIG! screenshots.
Instead of clearly saying somewhere in a stat box whether the game is on XBOX or 360 you gotta search for an icon amid the jetsom of the rest of the eye. eye! EYE! catching color variety!
It's like OXM got put in a blender and it spat out random like. No me gusta.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sid Meier's Pirates! Question. Help Please
|
on: November 28, 2005, 08:15:05 PM

Tacking (did I spell that right?) is how you sail when the wind is blowing from the direction you want to go... Some ships even sail faster when tacking.
Sail at an angle to the wind. Then when you have made some progress, change direction.
Say the wind is from the east, and you want to go east. Then sail northeast for a while, and then change to southeast for a while. It is a little slower, but it is a hell of a lot faster than sailing directly against the wind.
I apologize if you already knew this, but you wanted some hints, and that is how I learned to play the game way back in the 80's... Exactly what I needed. Thanks!

There is a directional compass on screen that points which way the wind blows. And yes, when it blows against you and you're on the opposite side of the map, the wind isn't the only thing that blows. So no techniques or helpful hints then, eh? Does the wind ever switch directions?

How exactly do you sail against the wind? IF the wind is blowing right to left and I need to go right, how do I do it?
I take my sails down put em up, change my angle etc, but can't generate any speed. Is there a sailing/navigation trick to help?
Pretty much all cities to the east are virtually inaccessible because it takes me so long to sail to them.
Are there any indicators about tide/wind patterns somewhere in the game? Other help appreciated too.
Thanks.

I will be on the market in the next 60-90 days for a 32-37 inch tv. Right now I'm leaning toward LCD...
Anyhoo- You see HD ready sets and those with HD built in. As best as I can surmise, the former means that you need an HD 'converter' to get an HD picture.
So lets say I buy an HD ready TV and plug my XBOX with an HD game in it. Does the X act as a 'converter' or would I still need an external box of some sort?
What would the price difference typically be on a tv- all things considered- that has one that is HD ready and HDTV built in...
What type of peripherals would I need to game in HD, I guess is the quesiton...

That one's pretty cool and much better than the water balloon one (which feels a little too disturbing and violent). And the new one ain't much better. This ad campaign is completely going over my head. I find them very violent (try watching them with the sound off). They don't appeal to me as a gamer, and I see little in them to intrigue a casual watcher. Agreed. It makes no sense to me...
