It seems that you have to get involved days after a game launch or you will miss out on the mulitiplayer craze.

That's typically true, but I think GoW has some legs. Get it!

Hello everyone-

I just wanted to start this thread for all the people out there like me who are almost exclusively Single Player gamers.

For whatever reason, I've never dived into MP until 2 nights ago with Gears of War.  I played almost exclusively with people from this site and the extended family including some folks that they invited into the games.

I was very nervous at first as I'm a complete n00b in the type of game play, I didn't know the maps, nor necessarily how to work on teams.

Well as one could expect, everyone I've played with has been very helpful, accomodating, more than willing to answer my gameplay and map questions, and bring me up to speed on how things work.  It's not like the horror stories you hear about being cursed at by some nutjob.  It has been a great gaming evironment even amongst those of us who may have gone toe to toe on various subjects throughout the years at this and other sites.

So as a result, I would encourage all of you to give it a try without fear of being the weak link or exposing yourself as a n00b. It's all been fun and games and pleasantly relaxed and competitive at the same time.

Ike was brand new last night and had a hoot.  Some folks, who you think would have hours and hours of time playing MP or GoW, were either rusty or not so veteran as we might think- looking at you KD  icon_cool.

This was just my second night of what I hope will be many many more MP nights with the fellas.  I seem to have picked up the mechanics and strategy pretty quickly and hope that those of you in SP only territory would jump on board.

There may be another game tonight.  Won't you join us?

I had one of my all time great gaming moments to end the evening:

Game was set to whomever gets 5 wins wins the match (much better than the default 3 btw).  We are in teams of 3 and our strategy had been working almost perfectly for the previous 4 or so rounds...a team of two goes high and I maintain rearguard.  Pete got a nice shotgun blast to the face to finish him from yours truly at least 3 times in a row using this strategy. (By the way, right now, in my two nights of experience, Pete is my number one rival. Some AMAZING 1 on 1 duels <where he usually wins>. Also, he's amazing when he's outnumbered).

Anyway, the otherside decided enough of this and bull rushed my two teammates and down they go.

I'm all on my lonesome, 1 on 3 with the match on the line.  Time to head outside or I'm dead. I take cover behind some broken walls in a kind of out of the way place.  Soon, Pete comes to find me.  He misses my cover point so I sneak behind him KA-BOOM. KA-BOOM. KA-BOOM.  Down he goes.

Back to cover.

Next guy comes out from the same direction with nearly the same result.

Final guy comes out from the other side with the sniper rifle equipped.  BAM he tags me in the shoulder.  I grab cover and heal up.  I move to catch him on the right flank.  Meantime he's moving to catch me on my left.  We meet in the middle, him still with the sniper rifle equipped.  KA BOOM KA BOOM KABOOM. Down he goes. I alone am left standing.  HUZZAH!

2:40 AM time for bed.

WOW.

Well I guess I'll read up on how to host and I guess the first 7 in will be the teams...

I'm running my 360 over Cable Internet....is that suitable or should someone with some kind of faster rig host it?

Advice, tips appreciated...

Heh, I wonder how many people have been tempted to pick up a game that is perceived as being crappy but held off because they new it would be added to their playlists, achievements, etc.  Maybe people need a separate profile for when they want to be incognito.

You could always do what I did for my son:  create a new profile that is not live-enabled.  Now you're free and clear to play what you want without the public at large keeping tabs on you.

But then he wouldn't be able to show off his Booby Jiggle Achievement...

Have some Gears of War coop  on the docket tonight. I also hope to get in some Multiplayer GoW.

Also, I'm on the final mission of Battles of Prince of Persia.  To top it off, I'm hoping to get in some Guitar Hero II.

An optimistic list for sure.

Rocked some MP tonight with PeteRock, Jancelot and a new friend Gladguy.  Also got some in with Jarrodhk, Mmoriarty, papasmurf and someone else (edit: Ceekay) and someone else...

I got pwned more than I pwned- especially in the 4x4, but I began to pick it up quickly.

2x2 was a hoot too. Lotsa killin.  Pete and Jance are a great team.

Tip:  Shotgun>Chainsaw in most close quarters situations unless I'm the one with the shotgun  retard

Sounds like it's worth buying then, if I could find a reasonably priced copy.

You can find them very cheap. I paid 5 or so dollars for my copy of MGS2 and about twice that for MGS both at EB/Gamespot.

Make sure you inspect the discs!  Also, in MGS2 (I think), you need a code to get the radio working. You can find it at gamefaqs if the copy you find doesn't include the original packaging.

I have two that come to mind:

Shadow of the Colossus

and....

Okami

SotC is well loved on this board, but I still feel it was a long way from the perfection label that people granted it There was emotional impact upon killing the first few titans, but by and large, after you've gone through the variants, it's basically the same fight over and over in different locales.  I would have liked to see more variety in the bosses- and the ways in which you kill them, less travel (more time spent on traveling than fighting) and especially more character development.

Okami- I'm not terribly far in this game...I want to say 8 hrs...and it has been a struggle to get that far.  I was really looking forward to this game (bought it on release day at full price), but it just hasn't delivered for me.  Knowing that it's about 40 hrs long means I'll probably never invest the time in it that one apparently should.  Sure it's pretty, sure it's witty, sure the evironments are neat, but for me it's just missing 'something'.

Hi everyone, I'm ATB: an avid Single Player gamer of average skill.  I would like to invite my fellow SP gamers into a GOW MP game Saturday night at around 10 PM EST.

My ideal players would be those with limited or no experience playing GOW multiplayer (I'm not looking for someone who has the maps memorized or is just looking to increase their frag count) or multiplayer at all. Other than some coop Smash TV, I've not done any multiplayer gaming at all...ever with the exception of one game of C&C with a friend over 56k...12 or so years ago.

Let me know if you're interested either in this thread or over PM. I guess I need 3 players. (I should probably read the manual on how to do this biggrin).

My plan is to cut my teeth and then jump in with the rest of the veteran GT crew at sometime in the future.

I know this should probably be in the MP forum, but if my target audience is like me, then they probably never go in there. Move if you must mods.

Looks like the the hype has already worn off. Just went to look at the current auctions as of today(Weds afternoon) and a system closed for $765+80 2nd day air shipping. A profit for the guy but when you include the time spent to get the thing and packaging it up for shipping not really worth it IMO.

That may have been for the 20GB. 60s seem to still be selling for between 900-1100.

More thoughts:

GOTY Played by Console (not necessarily released in 2006):

DS: Advanced Wars Dual Strike- The best TBS game I have ever played.  Perfectly balanced.
Xbox: Panzer Dragoon Orta- Planned to go through it again sometime, but I sold it.
PS2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty-  A true masterwork.
PC: Diablo II-  Uh. it's the only thing I played at all on PC. And that was just a flirtation.

PS2 was the hardest to make a judgement on as every game I've played on it (except for SotC) has been A caliber.
