Well, I finished Gears of War this morning so I'm on the prowl for my next title. However, I think I'm finally going to play Half Life 2 on XB1.

R6 V does look appealing but I'm gonna ride GoW multi and coop for a bit longer...

If not for the MP component, I'd feel pretty gypped on the length of GoW...that's for sure.

We have a new contender: Guitar Hero II

I do not dig the song selection thus far. I have blazed through whatever song sets to get to Sweet Child of Mine and then what happens? A craptacular cover.  CRAPTACULAR!

Ditto Cherry Pie.

Thus far there are no songs that I haven't heard before that have me like: Man that's a cool song! Like the first game.

I'm sadly dissappointed in this game.

Sure, but as far as I know all the good players are BC/GT. Maybe we should just do that like we did the last couple times than bother trying a 3 site thing? Enough people cross post to work that out.

I dunno what like we did the last couple of times is referring to.

13492  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Weekend Recap: 4/Dec/06 on: December 04, 2006, 03:08:05 PM
This was quite a weekend.  Friday night was one of the best gaming nights of my entire life with some Coop Gears of War with Ike and then a few hours of multi Gears of War with many of you guys.  Prior to that I got about an hour of Guitar Hero II (which has moved into contention for my most disappointing game of the year).

Saturday saw me finally finish up the underrated Battles of Prince of Persia on the DS and fire up Elite Beat Agents for the first time. Also did some more GoW and some more GHII.  Song selection is not so good and the songs I like almost all have TERRIBLE covers.

Sunday saw some EBA and a little bit of GoW SP.

Definitely the best gaming weekend I've had in years.
13493  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / On Cooperative and Team Play on: December 04, 2006, 03:04:09 PM
So...in the afore mentioned threads, playing with GTers is a great time- but can it make you a better player?

Friday night Ike and I played coop on casual and obviously, playing with him is better than playing with the AI controlled Dom. Some time in act 4 there's what could be considered an ambush and a Boomer comes out.  I'm blasting away at him with the chainsaw gun and have to reload. Boomer has me right in his sites and then BAM he explodes. Ike hit him in the head with the Torque bow.  Nice!

But my real question focuses around playing with people you know vs. people you don't.

I did some ranked matches Saturday night becaue no one would accept my invites (and after Calvin, Depward and his bro, whose name I've ironically forgotten ditched me to play 'basketball') and I did not play well at all.

Is this because I didn't have the support of friends who worked reasonably well together, because the competition was that much better, nervousness at being in a new playing environment, or some other variable that I've not thought of?

In a word, playing ranked matches sucked.  But I don't want it to.

There are tricks to bring friends into ranked matches that I saw others employ (specify the search criteria) that I'd love to do with some guys from here so that we could kick some global butt.

Thoughts...?

Hello everyone-

I just wanted to start this thread for all the people out there like me who are almost exclusively Single Player gamers.

For whatever reason, I've never dived into MP until 2 nights ago with Gears of War.  I played almost exclusively with people from this site and the extended family including some folks that they invited into the games.

I was very nervous at first as I'm a complete n00b in the type of game play, I didn't know the maps, nor necessarily how to work on teams.

Well as one could expect, everyone I've played with has been very helpful, accomodating, more than willing to answer my gameplay and map questions, and bring me up to speed on how things work.  It's not like the horror stories you hear about being cursed at by some nutjob.  It has been a great gaming evironment even amongst those of us who may have gone toe to toe on various subjects throughout the years at this and other sites.

So as a result, I would encourage all of you to give it a try without fear of being the weak link or exposing yourself as a n00b. It's all been fun and games and pleasantly relaxed and competitive at the same time.

Ike was brand new last night and had a hoot.  Some folks, who you think would have hours and hours of time playing MP or GoW, were either rusty or not so veteran as we might think- looking at you KD  icon_cool.

This was just my second night of what I hope will be many many more MP nights with the fellas.  I seem to have picked up the mechanics and strategy pretty quickly and hope that those of you in SP only territory would jump on board.

There may be another game tonight.  Won't you join us?

<insert Sally Struthers pic here>

I had one of my all time great gaming moments to end the evening:

Game was set to whomever gets 5 wins wins the match (much better than the default 3 btw).  We are in teams of 3 and our strategy had been working almost perfectly for the previous 4 or so rounds...a team of two goes high and I maintain rearguard.  Pete got a nice shotgun blast to the face to finish him from yours truly at least 3 times in a row using this strategy. (By the way, right now, in my two nights of experience, Pete is my number one rival. Some AMAZING 1 on 1 duels <where he usually wins>. Also, he's amazing when he's outnumbered).

Anyway, the otherside decided enough of this and bull rushed my two teammates and down they go.

I'm all on my lonesome, 1 on 3 with the match on the line.  Time to head outside or I'm dead. I take cover behind some broken walls in a kind of out of the way place.  Soon, Pete comes to find me.  He misses my cover point so I sneak behind him KA-BOOM. KA-BOOM. KA-BOOM.  Down he goes.

Back to cover.

Next guy comes out from the same direction with nearly the same result.

Final guy comes out from the other side with the sniper rifle equipped.  BAM he tags me in the shoulder.  I grab cover and heal up.  I move to catch him on the right flank.  Meantime he's moving to catch me on my left.  We meet in the middle, him still with the sniper rifle equipped.  KA BOOM KA BOOM KABOOM. Down he goes. I alone am left standing.  HUZZAH!

2:40 AM time for bed.

WOW.

Heh, I wonder how many people have been tempted to pick up a game that is perceived as being crappy but held off because they new it would be added to their playlists, achievements, etc.  Maybe people need a separate profile for when they want to be incognito.

You could always do what I did for my son:  create a new profile that is not live-enabled.  Now you're free and clear to play what you want without the public at large keeping tabs on you.

But then he wouldn't be able to show off his Booby Jiggle Achievement...
