Democracy needs to be funded.  This is how it is funded.  It's a big mess but a necessary one. And when I say necessary, I mean taxes...not the jumbled mess of impenetrable codes that delivers it to us.

It was one of the best seasons they've ever had.  Riveting television. The underdogs swept out the favorites and the final five people in the game were all likable and all deserved to be there.

13444  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What's your 'Retirability' Score? on: December 18, 2006, 02:11:37 PM
Takes about 5 minutes and it tells you how 'well you're doing' in the area of preparing for retirment.
Best if you can listen with the volume up.

Nationwide site.

My score was 185 and that is almost entirely built on the back of having sold my house a year and half ago as that allowed us to pay off the car, college loans and put a good chunk down on our current house.

I took it again as pre-November 2005 me and my score was: 194.  My house was worth $420,000 but of course this doesn't factor in that I could barely pay the mortgage, was struggling to make ends meet, had absolutely no savings and was borrowing money from my parents...  Well it factors in some of those but can't gauge the reality behind the numbers...

Of course it's not a perfect tool, nor does it claim to be...but it is interesting.

If I recall, every time you try to open it, it will match the last three digits of your money.  So when you can do it a few times and it doesn't come up with a random number, that means it's an environmental variable.  Of those, money is the easiest one to manipulate to exact figures.

Spoiler for Hiden:
you need to get the last three digits of your money to match what is said on the door.

It's not necessary to use them to proceed, they just have items inside.

I would have never figured that out in a million years. How did you?

Every where I go there's either a wall I can't get past, a flooded chamber, or a place to jump to that is too high for me to reach.

There's one place with a tumbler that has '777' on it, but I guess my luck isn't high enough as I've only ever gotten one 7.

Is there an ability I've not gotten yet that allows me to jump higher (I have the slow fall one)?

Do I need to boost my luck with items to get the 777?

How do you open/break walls?

HALP!

As it is, this series has missed it's best conceivable 'gotcha' already - the original casting plan.  Imagine that discoteque scene being done with Arnold sitting at the bar, and Michael Beihn slaughtering people.  Watching Mike kick the crap out of Arnold would have been phenomenal.  Just my opinion.

Actually, Lance Henrikson was originally going to be the Terminator.

I also maintain that T2 does not hold up as well as the original does.

My opinion of T2 has been a bit of a rollercoaster.  I thought it was "OMFG, Amazing!!!" when I first saw it, a little while after that after CGI spectacles were a dime a dozen I wasn't very impressed anymore, but now I marvel at all of the great old fashioned stuntwork that we see so little of these days.

Also, T2 is one of the few cases where I definitely prefer the theatrical version to the extended cut.  Extended cut puts me to sleep but the theatrical  version remains pretty tight.

Overall, I'd still put T2 ahead of the first if for no other reason than T2 feels less dated and more timeless.  Terminator 1 feels a little "Too 80s" at times to the point it takes me out of the movie.

I'm going to have to say that T1 is still the best of the series with 2 a close second.  3 should be launched into the sun.

I've seen the fight from II, of course, or the best moments of it at least at the beginning of III.

III is one of my greatest movie memories from childhood.  Mr. T and Hulk Hogan? Come on!

I watched Rocky IV again just a couple of years ago and I was screaming my head off.  What a great movie.

V should never have been made.

I've been meaning to do I and II...maybe I'll rent em.

However, it's that final scene in the bunker that redeemed the movie for me - John Connor, trapped with Kate Miller (Claire Danes), realizing that fate cannot be stopped and learning to accept it.  It's interesting how it entirely contradicts the T2 premise of "there's no fate but what we make".

That's the only good thing in the whole film.

T3 should have been entirely future based.  It should have shown the actual rise of the machines and the beginning of the war.

T4 should be Pt 2 of the actual war and end with Michael Biehn going through the time machine.

T5 should be the end of the war and the reemergence of humanity.

T6 should feature Tommy Machine Gunn as an up and coming Terminator Model who Arnie Knocks out in the street.

Ok I'm not serious about that last one...

T3 was better than it had any right to be despite more than a few choices that were just... odd. If I had one majorly negative thing to say it would be the whole film felt rushed.

If you compare 3 to the first two which are both masterpieces, it's not even ironically laughable at how poor T3 is.  1 and 2 are events with complex science fiction plots intertwining.  3 is a popcorn action movie.  It doesn't belong in the series. It's like Rocky V.

Was there any doubt in T3 that Arnie would win?

In T1 you had no idea if the good guys would win. In T2 they actually convinced you that Arnie was dead.  Talk about suspense.  T3. Terminatrix. PLEASE!
