I just realized something.

jblank claims he's buying (and selling) his PS3 to make money to buy a ring for his wife.

In order for jblank to actually earn enough money off his PS3 to add to his total for the ring, his PS3 will have to sell for AT LEAST $1260.

How do I figure?

jblank has to pay for the PS3 from the store.  That's $630.

The first $630 of the PS3 money from eBay goes to repaying the credit card bill for the console.

The next $630 gets jblank up to the amount of money he would still have in his pocket if he hadn't bought the PS3 to begin with.

Ergo, in order to make this venture worth his while, he HAS to sell the PS3 for at least $1260.

If he doesn't, he's wasting his time, as he'll actually have less money available for the ring than he would have if he hadn't bought the PS3.

A 100% markup.  That will be quite impressive.

Appetite is one of the greatest rock albums of all time.  There's no doubt about that. And GNR wasn't GNR without Axl.

However, upon hearing it so many years hence, one wonders- if not for his writing ability- how he got the job in the first place.  His voice is...uh...nails on a chalkboard sometimes.

That said, the best part about that album is the complex arrangements within the songs. There's just SO much going on at any one point and from what I understand Izzy had a lot to do with that even more so than Axl or anyone else...

Krusty the Clown: Now, boys, the network has a problem with some of your lyrics. Do you mind changing them for the show?
Anthony Kiedis: Forget you, clown.
Chad Smith: Yeah, our lyrics are like our children, man. No way.
Krusty the Clown: Well, okay, but here where it says, "What I got you gotta get and put it in ya," how about just, "What I'd like is I'd like to hug and kiss ya."
Flea: Wow. That's much better.

I know that some shows still haven't rolled out yet, but most of the ones that I had any interest in have premiered (or I've missed them and don't care enough).

The only show thus far that I will be following long term is Friday Night Lights.  The writing is great, the tension levels appropriate, the acting superb and the characters are well developed.  I really enjoyed the movie (often shaking my head in disbelief) and the show is shot like mini movies each week.

Brilliant!  thumbsup

So of course:

We're talking about a game system here--a luxury item if there ever was one.

I've seen that games are often divided into categories- most of which I understand- but I'm not sure what constitutes an 'action' game?  I mean almost all games have some sort of 'action' in them.

Does that mean 3rd person over the shoulder perspective like what GoW is going to be?

I was just jokin' earlier, thats why I put the winkie in there. I will probably just put it on eBay starting at $1.00 and let it ride. I'm hearing possibly that premium systems with popular launch titles may go for $1,000+ on there, so I am leaning towards just doing that unless someone here put an offer for comparable cash in front of me.

Well, I barely know Gellar at all and what I do know alarms and frightens me.  Suffice it to say, I'm standing firm at my $1200.00 offer

I would just say that the chances of it being in direct sunlight during game play are scant.  Sure, indirect sunlight may be a factor, but my guess is that most players- even including the non-'hardcore'- don't play with the curtains/shades all the way open....cause even non-'hardcore' eyes can't see the screen with all that glare.

Here are all the customer service issues I have going on right now.  I am about ready to go Emerson/Thoreau and go live in a cabin where I can never buy anything ever again.

Amazon: Buy 360 get Gears of War free. I order it and they pull the ad saying it was a mistake.  They've annotated my account that I should still get the game for free. We'll find out in november.

Best Buy: Bought a 3000.00 tv (my dad's) with triple rewardzone points. Still only have the initial value on my account.  I've called more that 1/2 dozen times to get this escalated to no avail.  Language barriers aplenty.  Called their complaint line. Have escalated to management.  Ridiculous. The last rep gave me 270 pts on my account for some reason. I'm owed 6000.  <sigh>

Verizon: The rep messed up my account setup 2 1/2 years ago and for whatever reason they want 15.00 a line transfer fee for us to get our entitled phone upgrades and my company discount.  That's 60.00 for their mistake.

Anderson Homes:   The place that built my house has someone who is absolutely incompetent as their warranty agent.  Two issues have been going on and on and on for months and she just can't put it together.

Oh and I'm still battling all of them. I won't capitulate.

What's the deal with countries like N. Korea and Iran?  You would think if 50,000 other countries (exaggeration, I know) are telling you, "Dude, you really should stop with the nuclear stuff.  It's just not cool", they would take a hint.  Maybe step back and say, "You know what, a billion other people are telling me it's not wise?  Maybe it's not?"

Because the UN is a spineless beauracracy that 'threatens' with words and then doesn't do anything about it when their warnings are ignored. It should be called the Appeasing Nations rather than United.  Kofi Annan is useless.

Korea having nukes is a potentially huge problem.

Let me just say, that if you're into turn based strategy and/or card games, Battles of Prince of Persia is a great title for the DS. It can be had for 10.00 and it's moved from a B title for me, to an A- and possibly climbing.  I'm really enjoying the mechanics and the strategy.  The AI isn't so great, but there have been times where I've felt I had to 'turn the tide' in order to beat the mission.  This is getting most of my time.

Also, played some Killer 7.  What a stylish and interestingly confusing game.  Not yet brilliant, but it's captivating.
