13442  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gears of War/Multiplayer N00bz Look Here/Link to Friday Night Game! on: November 30, 2006, 12:56:04 PM
Hi everyone, I'm ATB: an avid Single Player gamer of average skill.  I would like to invite my fellow SP gamers into a GOW MP game Saturday night at around 10 PM EST.

My ideal players would be those with limited or no experience playing GOW multiplayer (I'm not looking for someone who has the maps memorized or is just looking to increase their frag count) or multiplayer at all. Other than some coop Smash TV, I've not done any multiplayer gaming at all...ever with the exception of one game of C&C with a friend over 56k...12 or so years ago.

Let me know if you're interested either in this thread or over PM. I guess I need 3 players. (I should probably read the manual on how to do this biggrin).

My plan is to cut my teeth and then jump in with the rest of the veteran GT crew at sometime in the future.

I know this should probably be in the MP forum, but if my target audience is like me, then they probably never go in there. Move if you must mods.

Looks like the the hype has already worn off. Just went to look at the current auctions as of today(Weds afternoon) and a system closed for $765+80 2nd day air shipping. A profit for the guy but when you include the time spent to get the thing and packaging it up for shipping not really worth it IMO.

That may have been for the 20GB. 60s seem to still be selling for between 900-1100.

Wow. That's some claim!

I'm usually nice to everyone on the phone.  I just don't get that bitter.  However, some customer service reps have really cheesed me off...especially when there's a language barrier.

The angriest I get though is typically: "Can I speak to your supervisor?"

And along come Starshifter to turn everyone on their head.  That's why we love him.

More thoughts:

GOTY Played by Console (not necessarily released in 2006):

DS: Advanced Wars Dual Strike- The best TBS game I have ever played.  Perfectly balanced.
Xbox: Panzer Dragoon Orta- Planned to go through it again sometime, but I sold it.
PS2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty-  A true masterwork.
PC: Diablo II-  Uh. it's the only thing I played at all on PC. And that was just a flirtation.

PS2 was the hardest to make a judgement on as every game I've played on it (except for SotC) has been A caliber.

My guess is that speculation is correct that many of the units are already laying around in wherehouses somewhere.

600k number is probably just a percentage of whats already out there waiting to be sold.

Personally I think the number should be a lot higher. Somewhere in the 35-45% range. Due to Sony's massive shortages and because there are a lot of a**-holes in this world.

I actually think the jerks are the ones who selfishly kept it for themselves.  Take that!

I know the year's not over, but according to the GT Calendar there's not much coming out the rest of the way (I'm not sure if it's updated).  That said, what's your GOTY with just over a month left?

Even though I'm enjoying GoW immensely, I can't foresee it overtaking Dead Rising as my favorite game of the year.  For me, DR did everything right (including the save system). It scared me, made me laugh, made me tense, had great characters and a fabulous controls scheme.

ATB's GOTY: Dead Rising (Xbox 360)

Maybe it's just that no one is writing  you.

As opposed to hyping shit up, then calling it a "buggy, unplayable mess"?

Indeed, at least some people can ADMIT something they hyped turned out to be fecalish.  Other people, just try to sweep it aside and hope people will forget they aren't Sylvia Brown.

Which shows you only read OO during the BC split crap and the U2K thing (both of which were pretty damn amusing). The drama hasn't been there for months.

One thing OO has going for it over all the other boards I read, it's very active.

Not exactly chief.  I read OO long before the BC split crap and the U2k thing and long before you were a twinkle in its eye.  I've also lurked here and there since the BC split (in which I was an unintentional part as BC ended up being where I headed until an extended lapse of consistent posting (I blame IRC) brought me back to GT) and by and large it's the same place.

Even if it's true, there's no way they held back 400k.  I would be shocked if they held back even 100k of something that was selling that hot.  Never believe launch numbers.

Would the only benefit be a perceived (or actual!) shortage and the requisite media coverage?  I think N prefers to have money in their pocket rather than create false inflation by holding units back...of course I could be wrong.
