13441  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The 'no receipt' return. Ethical or Theivery on: December 28, 2006, 05:50:59 PM
Is it unethical to purchase something at an online retailer and then return it at a B&M store for store credit valued at more than what was originally paid?

Stores like Walmart, BB, Target and a host of others I'm sure, have the 'no receipt return' policy where if you show your driver's license they'll give you store credit. Typically, as with BB and Target, you get one per 365 days. With Walmart I believe it's 2.

Theoretically, it's a win win as the return to company gets the merchandise  + the store credit - the item(s) purchased with the store credit which are sold at markup. Returnee gets the amount returned for - amount paid.

As these policies are in place, presumably for patrons returning gifts that were purchased without a gift receipt etc, is doing the above a violation of that policy and or general ethical constraints?

The limitations mentioned above limit abuse, but is using the policy in such a way wrong?

Actually, it's worse than that.  Since there was no sort of notification that the problem was caused by XBox Live, I assumed that the fact that I couldn't load my single player campaign was caused by a faulty save game file

Me too so I tried to start a new campaign.  It didn't take and I knew something was up.  I hope my original campaign on Insane is still in tact.

There are also NO games going on to join in MP land.

I've always been astonished by how many lives and nations were destroyed fighting that non-threat.

Ask the people who lived under it if it was a non-threat.

Exactly. Tell Sakharov, the other dissidents, or the millions that died under Communism that it was a "non-threat".
Do you also care about those millions who have died under the US's watchful (and approving) eyes? Or do those somehow have to be explained in context?

Clearly, you are spouting Communist Propaganda.

Technically they are 'banned'.

They don't scare me that much as if they go off, well, I'll probably not know about it.  Wait. I don't live 40 minutes from DC anymore.  I'll probably survive the first wave and join a roving band of marauders who wage war for a single tank of juice.  I'll drive a souped up car, get a mohawk, some lacrosse pads, a sawed off shotgun and learn to live again.

Max Payne 2 has so many classic gunfights I couldn't even begin to list them all. I've replayed each of them so many times and had so many different experiences annihilating the enemies that it's all good. Were I to pick one individual sequence I'd point to the mansion towards the end. You're running down a hallway and the second the door in front of you starts to open throw it into shoot dodge mode and open fire. Eternal glory awaits. icon_lol

Yes yes yes! Both Max Paynes had epic gunfights throughout.

Hopefully Stranglehold will leave us as equally breathless.

Ok ok.

So Superman, presumably, is the most powerful DC comics superhero.

Who is it in Marvel? The hulk? Or...Galactus?

So if Galactus went against Superman who would win?

if Galactus was defeated by the FF and SS, i guess he's not that tough.

So that leaves hulk, who someone said, cannot actually be killed.

So does that mean the Hulk is the king of all superheroes?

THe first medal of honor had some amazing firefights. The Panzershrek demo level was incredible and there was one more level that was wow inducing that I can't remember. The rest of the game didn't live up to what coulda been though..

I find that most firefights aren't epic enough: they're just too short or the bad guys come from a respawn point.

I'd love an extended firefight with more than 10 bad guys. Maybe the CoD games do that but I haven't played one yet.

Meeting new people who are cool, that's what.

I largely figured that I would play online solely with folks from here and BC, but have been fortunate to find at least 3 other groups of guys/gals who play GoW MP pretty consistently, who play fair, don't take it too seriously, teach each other how to improve, mix up the teams when it's obviously imbalanced and otherwise enjoy the the experience.

True I started out just a few weeks back relying on you cats, and  it's still a hair more fun when I play against you guys (though it's been tougher of late calvin paranoid peterock), but as said there are 3 to 4 groups who I look for online everytime I'm in the mood to MP. Last night for example, I was up till 3:30 with some guys I hooked up with last weekend.

Most of them have added me to their friends lists- and I them, obviously- and they invite me pretty consistently.  I'm very pleased with how it has worked out.

I'm actually rather surprised at the frequency with which I've found good players vs. bad players.  Perhaps it's because once I find the fun ones I tend to hang out with them, but again it has been great...and it has totally changed the way I play games.

Yeah, I'm not one of their 'core' gang, but I'm cool with being on the fringe as it were. So, I'm hoisting a glass to XBL!

I would do that and have done that for other neighbors, but I don't have any trust for this family (due to the concerns stated above as well as an overall unfriendliness- even coldness) that they would accuse me of stealing 'something' else.

This has been very hard to reconcile with the love your 'enemies' principal.  Howevever, God has given me reason and a family to be accountable for, so it's not a risk I'm willing to take.

BTW- The police came within 15 minutes of the call.  They went over to the house and question and looked like they were trying to gain entry.  We thought, we'll they're going to be confiscating the dogs. Then a second unit rolls up. They confer for a bit...question the neighbors to either side and then leave without a word back to me.   :icon_confused:
