Adding to the lunacy, I was just at Best Buy - they had 6 PS3s sitting on the shelf, getting no love.  I got there at noon, so they'd been there for a while....

You should have bought them all. Still fetching 1k per system.

I know the year's not over, but according to the GT Calendar there's not much coming out the rest of the way (I'm not sure if it's updated).  That said, what's your GOTY with just over a month left?

Even though I'm enjoying GoW immensely, I can't foresee it overtaking Dead Rising as my favorite game of the year.  For me, DR did everything right (including the save system). It scared me, made me laugh, made me tense, had great characters and a fabulous controls scheme.

ATB's GOTY: Dead Rising (Xbox 360)

Would this update have a fix for a problem that has been plaguing me, my PM notification not tell me I have PM's? I thought it was my pop-up blocker, but I eliminated that from being a possibility, but for some reason its 50/50 that I get notified of a PM. Just wonderin', not a huge deal.

Maybe it's just that no one is writing  you.

I may not have been clear. I get the PM's, but I am not getting the notification that one has arrived.

I don't think the pop up pops up when you write yourself.

As opposed to hyping shit up, then calling it a "buggy, unplayable mess"?

Indeed, at least some people can ADMIT something they hyped turned out to be fecalish.  Other people, just try to sweep it aside and hope people will forget they aren't Sylvia Brown.

Which shows you only read OO during the BC split crap and the U2K thing (both of which were pretty damn amusing). The drama hasn't been there for months.

One thing OO has going for it over all the other boards I read, it's very active.

Not exactly chief.  I read OO long before the BC split crap and the U2k thing and long before you were a twinkle in its eye.  I've also lurked here and there since the BC split (in which I was an unintentional part as BC ended up being where I headed until an extended lapse of consistent posting (I blame IRC) brought me back to GT) and by and large it's the same place.

Try to remember that it is 600k sold, not shipped.  I know at least Wal-mart held a bunch of their stock for the weekend promotion they were doing. I wouldn't think anyone held it longer, but you never know....

Even if it's true, there's no way they held back 400k.  I would be shocked if they held back even 100k of something that was selling that hot.  Never believe launch numbers.

Would the only benefit be a perceived (or actual!) shortage and the requisite media coverage?  I think N prefers to have money in their pocket rather than create false inflation by holding units back...of course I could be wrong.

As for 600k, that's lower than I thought too and not as impressive to me as I had hoped.  I guess 4 million by end of year is still feasible and I hope they reach it.

I didn't get a 360 until this last october that was only because of a ridiculous deal at outpost.

That in turn derailed my planned purchase of a Wii which I probably would not have pre-ordered due to supposedly readily available supply. So I probably wouldn't have one now anyway. However, I may have been willing to get to BB this past weekend at 5:00 AM to get one...

Well, my guests ended up leaving a day earlier than expected, that leant itself to a robust day or so of gaming.

Behold:

Gears of War: I'm to Act II and so far this game is riveting. I've got the controls down now and the gameplay is outstanding. I can definitely see myself playing through multiple times.  There are some VERY intense moments, I must say.  The addition of John "Bender" Dimaggio as the main voice guy makes this even better. There is one part though where a transmission comes into Fenix and it sounds like Bender is under fire from the Locust.  Rather surreal.  icon_biggrin

Battles of Prince of Persia: I finished 2.5 missions.  Only 2 more missions to go and I'm done with this unheralded gem.  Fabulous.

Guitar Hero: My 15 year old niece is officially the Eric Claptonesqe guitar god of the ATB extended family. I took her on some songs, but she pwns me.

Oh and I took today off too...so I should be able to do some more!

DO NOT!

As a gamer who missed the boat on the PSX and only recently (03/06) arrived in Playstation Twoosville, hunt for MGS and MGS2 and play them.  MGS holds up remarkably well- though you'll note the primitive control limitations- and MGS2 is a masterpiece of a game.  A MASTERPIECE.

3 is a gigantic departure from the first 2 (and I've still not worked through it due to other game priorities).

YOU MUST play MGS and MGS2.  Please, for the sake of Snake...
