13361  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Is there an Ignore feature in the works? on: January 06, 2007, 09:52:43 PM
D00D! I just noticed there's an ignore button.

I likes it and someone has already decided they don't like joy, happiness, love, fun, humor, cleverness or great content as they've ignored me.

My guess is Kobra...if he doesn't say otherwise I'll know it's him! Muhahaha!

If he does chime and say it wasn't him. I'll point out someone else until I go through every single user...then at last we'll have my revenge.

OMG! It's such big news that it's all over the national networks. Oh wait. No it's not. It must be a conspiracy to let them overrun us! Or they have hidden broadcast antennae repeating 'sleep sleep sleep'.  If I put on some special glasses I can see who is Mexican and who is not!  Where the hell is Roddy Piper when we need him?!

We'd better nuke Mexico City with teh quickness!

The one thing that has me a little concerned, though, is the total openness of the world with seemingly no real story or missions to propel the player along.  I love screwing around and doing all sorts of crazy things in these games as much as the next guy (if not more), but I also like to be able to do a mission or two now and then to feel like I'm making progress.  I guess it might not be bad as long as they clearly show the player where the gang bosses and kingpins are and the details of their relationship like he explained in the interview.

If it is completely free flowing as suggested above, they just lost a sale.  I want a cohesive progression. Not 100% sandbox.  Meh.

Remember how I complained that Calvin never joined?

Well now I'm complaining that he did.

He absolutely kicked madd butt tonight.

I think I had two good matches once he came on...saving my best for last despite the loss.  I was playing great until he came on- must be his blood pact with Satan.

Then I  got moidered for about 1.25 hrs...then played well the last two matches.  icon_frown

Shoulda been in bed 1.5 hrs ago, but being slaughtered the way I was I just couldn't turn it off.

Oh and Pete was rustier than the titanic.

Forcebane's the man...but he must learn never to get into a sniper duel with Papa Smurf.  Tongue

Calvin if you're on at 11 and want to play send me a message.

I'm planning on being in bed at 1 AM and no later.  I'm back at work next week and need to get my sleep.

I'm pretty sure that hitting any ending, including the worst one that you just got, is enough to unlock Julius mode.  You might want to give it a try before you sell, it lets you play as Julius, that girl, and Dracula's son.

I guess I never got into Castlevania enough to care.  Thanks for the info though.

13376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Unexpectedly Liking 360 Achievements on: January 04, 2007, 02:41:00 PM
I don't know if it's the caliber of games that I've purchased so far for the 360 (Dead Rising <my GOTY> and Gears of War), but the achievements have been rather intriguing.

I've played through Dead Rising 3 times (and will probably go through a fourth time in the future) to see things that I missed the first time through but also to get some additional achievements.  There are a couple more that I still want to get (54k kills I'm looking at you) but I don't know if it's because of the achievement itself (I don't really care about the points) or because I love the game so much.

Ditto Gears of War...though that's more of getting an achievement thing than seeing new content. I mean why else play through the game on Insane? Cause it's fun?  I don't think so.

My score is now north of 1100 which really doesn't matter to me...but achivements do, as others have said, add additional life to games and act as a neat little encourager to try something I wouldn't have otherwise attempted (knock over 30 zombies with a parasol? neat!)
13377  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Post your backlog!!! on: January 04, 2007, 02:26:51 PM
As a former backlog junkie, I'm pleased to report my new and improved backlog:

Xbox:
-empty-

console retired and sold

Xbox 360:
Battle for Middle Earth II (on 7th Good campaign mission- it has gotten better- but man, the controls..)
Call of Duty 2 (two more campaigns and I'm done with this one-up and down overall quite solid)

DS:
Meteos
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (2nd Case)
Hotel Dusk (just begun)

PS2
God of War
Chrono Cross
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Subsistence
Dragon Warrior VIII (doubt I'll ever finish; close to retirement)
Killer 7 (almost done!)

I consider a game on the backlog if I own it and it's not 'completed' (ie. played through and or retired/sold without completion)

Or am I missing something?  <late game spoilars ahead>

So I climbed the long tier of steps and get to the battle with the flame guy again.  At the time the game said I had cleared about 72% of the game.

So I wax this guy first try and figure ok. new ability to open new areas just like before.... Then some dude runs in and says you did it.  My guy asks where's Celia? Dood says we're tracking her.  They then run outside and my dood says I don't feel well. Other dood says we'll have you checked out.  Roll Credits.

WHA?

Are there other story elements in other areas of the castle? Does it explain where the main bad guy went or is this is it?  Did I not do something right to get the 1942

SUCK ENDING!?

Are there other endings?

I'm now up to 70% on the achievements in Dead Rising...so I'm going to be setting it aside until there's another lull.

Also finished EBA on the DS. What a masterpiece of a game.  Now onto the more difficult level.

Also got in some Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow....it's good but I don't know that I'll get the sequel any time soon.  I'm 65% of the way through it and ready to be done.

As for falling down on the job, Ceekay, it's called increasing demand and not diluting the brand.

My other hit thread: Weekend Playlist (which I stole from Whiteboyskim) is still going strong in the reply category. However, recap was falling behind.  I was gonna go one more week, but you've proven there's still a demand for it...I'll gladly take back my IP and fire it up again next week.

For 360:  I'm leaning towards John Woo's Stranglehold.  I need a Max Paynish fix.  Also Mass Effect looks good but I'm not 100% sold on it. Crackdown looks fun but I'm very skeptical.

DS:  Phoenix Wright II hands down.  DragonQuest 9 (I don't know if it's a 2007 release) is up on the list even though I'm probably not going to finish 8 (100 hours?)  But man a great handheld RPG would be awesome.

Note:  Showing your license and all other ID doesn't matter, even though we shop at Target a lot and have never returned anything there... ever.

I've sorta been struggling with this very conundrum over the past few days.

I purchased an XBox 360 from my local Best Buy Saturday, and as part of a promo deal (which I had to point out to them, I might add), they were giving away Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter with it.  Not a pack in or anything-- just right off the shelf.  I'm not particularly interested in GRAW; I've heard it's a good game, but if I had my druthers, I would have rather them knock $39 bucks off the cost of the 360 (the cost of GRAW in the store) or give me a $39 gift card.  So I've been kicking around returning GRAW ("Hey, whaddya know?  My girlfriend got me one for Christmas and didn't realize I already had it.  Er... And she lost the receipt.") to BB for store credit and using the $39 in store credit to get something else.

On the one hand, it's not honest and I'm not pretending it is.  On the other hand, though, they were willing to eat the cost of the game so long as it was sold with the 360.  Most likely, they're being compensated for it somehow, and they'll STILL be compensated for it even if I return it because as far as they're concerned, the copy of GRAW they sold with XBox transaction #49404072 is still out there.  Meanwhile, they get GRAW back, unopened, which they can sell (or bundle again) and I get to throw $39 towards a game I'd rather have, most likely Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Rainbow Six: Vegas, both of which are going for $59.

So, in summary, is it dishonest?  Yeah, sure.  Hurting them?  I don't really see how, no.

I don't know that that is dishonest actually...except if you say the part about the GF...

Elite Beat Agents is justification enough for a DS purchase...even if the DS was 300.00.

It may be my game of the year now.
