One year we got spiral-bound notebooks with the company name.

NotebookS!  Sweet!  If you lose one, you have another!

Or was it 1/person?  frown

1 per person.  They didn't want to blow the budget.

All things considered, I'd rather have the spiral notebook.  At least that's practical.

Every time I look at this thing I think of the Fuscili (sp) Jerry episode.  I'm afraid someone's going to sit on it.

Hmmm.

By speaking the word "Inuk-chuk," ("Big Man") Apache Chief could grow to vast sizes. The limit to this ability has never been revealed, but in an episode titled "Colossus," Apache Chief "Inuk-chuks" himself to cosmic proportions to battle the Colossus, a titanic space creature that plucked Earth from its orbit and placed it in a small (relative to him) glass bottle.

Well, sadly, I've said the word several times and I'm still not titanic.

Oh I guarantee it wasn't 5 dollars. If I had to guess, I'd say they range in at 30-60 dollars per with the engraving.  Yep. nice Amazon Gift card would have been much more appreciated...

Dimensions are:

Base = 6 inches x 3 inches
Statue is 4 inches high and 3.5 inches
13365  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Recognition for a Job Well Done! Now Updated with More Crap! on: December 14, 2006, 03:43:14 PM
So instead of my team getting any type of bonus this year (it would have been small...maybe 200.00 or so) for some unprecedented industry recognition in the field of learning and development, we got this (I've omitted the company name and some other text from the engraving):

Now I will say that we don't get bonuses ever as that's not our reward structure. But in the past, we did get small AMEX gift checks for what is considered being tops.  Now we're tops again in two places- it's never happened before.  And we got that.

I'm seriously considering making a youtube video of me smashing it with a sledge hammer...but I'm sure it'd come back to me and I'd get fired.

Oh and if you're wondering: It's supposed to be an indian statue that represents our dependence on one another.

It seems I have a Christmas party on Saturday night as well.  Friday night is the company party from 6pm until around 11pm (cocktail hour followed by seven-course meal served personally by the chef, which should take some time), so if I'm going to play at all Friday night, it won't be until 11:30pm or midnight Arizona time (2am Eastern).  If I'm home earlier I'll definitely keep an eye out for people still playing online.  On Saturday our boss/friend is having a party at his house, and I have no idea how late that may run, but I probably won't be available until later Saturday night as well.  But, as with Friday, I'll check in when I get home to see if anyone is left playing.  Odds are I may show up too late, when everyone is already finished for the night, but I'll give it a try nonetheless.

My giant heart is breaking.

13368  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / And thus, the Vonage Experiment comes to an end on: December 13, 2006, 03:46:03 PM
After 11 months, I have given Vonage the boot.

We experienced voice drops from the get go but the 15.00 or so per month savings (X2) was worth the occaisonal issue.

Then, of course, the voice drops out completely when I receive or send large files.  Hmm Okay. I'll try to avoid doing that when I'm on a call.

A bit later, for whatever reason, my ability to dial into conference calls became spotty. Okay. This is now impacting my ability to earn a living.

Then, within the past 3 weeks it has been: voice drops, the problem with the files, having to say hello for 15 seconds before the person calling us can hear us, having to wait 10 seconds for a dial tone,  having to wait 25 seconds before outgoing calls actually ring and a partridge in a pear tree.

So I called Embarq (formerly Sprint- who I have never heard ANYTHING GOOD about (either wireless or voice) <sigh>) and are using them as my local and long distance carrier.

Adios 21st century. Welcome back 20th!

And I think the Gears of War commercial with this song in it is one of the suckiest attempts to blend music with content I've ever seen.

Is there an overarching theme to the song that I'm missing that some how connects to the game?

I ask because the song sucks and I cannot stand listening to the whole thing.

13381  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Military Folks- Abu Ghraib Question on: December 11, 2006, 12:35:30 AM
So there's a story on 60 minutes tonight about the guy who blew the whistle on the AG situation.

He is so unpopular now, that he has to live in a secret location. His lifelong friends abandoned him and he's viewed as a rat.

Military people/former or current- Is the bond between soldiers SO strong that morality must be eschewed to protect that bond?

He's drawing lots of fire because he exposed the prison scandal. It's 'bad for America'.

The quote that really got me is 'Never put the enemy before your fellow soldiers'.

I was flabberghasted at that!

I cannot understand the band of brothers phenomenon as I've never served, but how can a man be considered a traitor for upholding a moral code that is even greater than that of the military?

I'm not asking the question well, but this story has shaken me.

A quick look of closed ebay auctions just now shows that the prices have come down drastically.  They're hovering in the 750 to 850 ranges now.

With ebay and paypal fees your profit margin is slipping.

However, you could wait it out and see if there's a spike at Christmas and then sell it or just keep it.

Personally, there's nothing out there I want to play on PS3. Resistance is the only title that looks good to me and nearly every review I've read/heard/whatevers says that it's rather derivative.

I'm getting so sound from the dashboard (you know the up sound or side to side sound).

Also, i'm playing dead rising and while I am getting great sound for the most part, there are areas where I"m getting none.

For example when otis calls I can't hear the chime.

Sound is registering in the receiver as 5.1 but it's acting very finicky.

Is this a greater known issue or do I just need to check my speaker wires...?

Given all the talk of how PSP is having its lunch eaten, one must notice that 400k units is a very strong number given that Sony hasn't dropped the price or created any killer bundles.

True as compared to the DS/GBA combined it's small, but overall it's far more impressive than I expected, as many of the gaming insiders consider the PSP a nearly dead platform and repeatedly state that Sony MUST DO SOMETHING (redesign, price drop etc) to get it back on the map...
