121  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Changes in gaming habits over the years... on: July 08, 2014, 02:45:36 PM
Biggest shift for me occurred when I got the 360. Until that point I was entirely an SP gamer.  With GRAW2 and Gears of War I shifted irrevocably into the MP category and as a result play very little other than that.

The benefits are return on investment (I'm at over 260 hrs in BF4 for example) but the drawback is that I have become such a competition junkee that the goings on in SP games now are not frenetic or challenging enough for me to be bothered with. I like the hyper-awareness one enters into with competitive MP and that leads me to ask: why fight against the AI in an SP campaign when I can actually fight against real people?

That said, I'm dying for an amazing story driven game.  I've started the most recent Tomb Raider game and I see why it is got raves, but I'm not making a point to play it.  I would love another Fallout. Would love another Last of Us.  But they are the exception.

That article does not explain how the standards have resulted in the lunches tasting badly or did i just miss it?

is that kids don't like whole grain bread instead of white or is the new bread somehow inedible?

if it's the former, well, eating healthy takes some getting used to and the kids and parents just need to suck it up. If it's the latter it's a problem.

Article also doesn't tie the 'bad taste' to the drop in participation.

Have no idea what the proper story is vs. the non-proper story.

You probably mostly remember the adventures of the SDF-1 with Rick Hunter, Minmei, Admiral Gloval, etc.  Those episodes have nothing to do with the adventures of Rand and the other guys with motorcycles that turn into robots.  You probably have little to no memory of the adventures of Dana Sterling, but those were also hamfisted into the 'Robotech' umbrella despite having nothing to do with the above two series.

I watched all 3 series. Invid invasion was my favorite. macross was 2. Robotech Masters (Dana Sterling) was a distant 3rd.

And how did they not match up? Seemed to work pretty well?

Black people can be racist?  Does the media know about this?

Yes.  It's just that you don't see it as much because "White Man Confronted While Waiting In Line" naturally warrants less coverage than "All Black People Statistically Earn >20% Less Than White People" or "87% of All NYC Stop-and-Frisk Targets Are Black, Latino; 88% of All Searches Prove Fruitless."

-Autistic Angel

Hmm. white dude hits black kid. Stops to help. Gets mauled by black mob had almost no coverage. Neither the victim nor the mob were claimed by obama as what his son would look like.  But a 'white latino' (first time I'd ever heard of that ethnicity) kills a black kid and global headlines and obama says that's his son.

As for what you mention, The New Jim Crow is an excellent book about how we got into the situation and how we've all been manipulated to encourage the continuation of those exact situations.

Edit: Nice Red herring by the way. So racism is excusable if you're oppressed?

It's called Shooters Grill and it is located in Rifle, Colo., so naturally, the waitresses pack heat.

The burger joint, about 180 miles west of Denver, embraces the firearms theme with menu items like the "M16 burrito," "Smith & Wesson Grilled Cheese" and "Locked and Loaded Nachos." The salt and pepper shakers are made from shotgun shells. But the biggest Second Amendment statement is in the guns waitresses carry, including the Rueger Blackhawk .357 Ashlee Saenz sports.

Quote
Owner Lauren Boebert, 27, started the trend when she began carrying a pistol shortly after opening the restaurant a year ago.

"I started open-carrying maybe a month after we opened just because I am a woman in business and I was there early hours and late nights," Boebert said. "There was a man beaten to death in the alley behind my restaurant last year. It was very unfortunate."

Of course maybe the lack of threads in R&P is due to the drop in participants in the forum and not just having a dem in the WH.

I'm not sure if there is a rolleyes big enough for this question.

Admittedly, I have moved more to an isolationist view since Gulf War 2 and the absolute waste of men and materiel that was Iraq and was (is) Afghanistan. I have also moved away from the blind patriotism that I used to have as I've read more about how the US has directly set the table for the mess we're in now and how the government (all three branches) moves more and more into the pocket of the corporations AND abuses (or perhaps ignores is the better word choice) the soldiers who protect our country once they get home (VA).  I also believe that there is a military industrial complex that continually stands to benefit from war/arming our future enemies...

In fact, I've moved so far to the left on the use of America's army as a global police force I wonder how I ever thought the other way.  This should be something that makes you happy, no? Or because it's a Dem in the whitehouse it's okay to warmonger?

America (and almost every large nation) has provided support via weapons to countries they later end up fighting.  The problem is that sometimes you have to support the lesser evil to combat the much greater one.   We were buddies with Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war.  Then we weren't a few years later.

But not doing so can result in consequences far worse than looking hypocritical.

Diplomacy is a game that often just comes down to staying alive, not winning.

How does helping in syria keep us alive?
