So folks who REALLY wanna wait until it's "done" might need to wait for some hotfixes. Though by the time you reach the California content (maybe 20-30 hours), maybe they'll have issued some patches by then.  icon_smile
If I recall correctly, Fallout 2 had numerous bugs that would break the game outright on release, so this is just par for the course.  icon_smile

Which is why i never bought another Interplay title. I was so angry when my save no longer worked and they were basically like 'yep, you need to start over.'   *Fist Shaking*

YOu can switch between subclasses at will.

Okay let me ask this:

So I'm level 15 and a level 0 whatever the 2nd class is for warlock. Do I continue to unlock abilities only as I level? So level 16 before I get the next thing and level 17 before I get the next?

Or is it just based on experience acquired?
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Destiny -Bungie's new game with Activision on: September 19, 2014, 03:55:57 PM
thanks for the info on the subclasses.  if there are six combos (2x per character) how come we only have 3 character slots?  :'(
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Destiny -Bungie's new game with Activision on: September 19, 2014, 12:53:49 PM
So I hit 15 and have unlocked the subclass.

I do I now have to unlock everything again for the new class? Is the idea that I play through this again with the same character t ype but with different abilities or is the unlocking expedited because I'm already 15?

Good thread.

While not really binge watching I:

Finished up Breaking Bad. Season 5 was amazing
Have worked through 3 seasons of Justified (love it)
My wife and I have watched almost all of the 3rd season of Swamp People
We watched a couple of 'season' of Pawn stars but some are like 10 episodes

looking forward to new girl hitting netflix (today!) and walking dead and SOA.

1. Bungie has the worst writers in the business so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised the story is lacking.

2. Their level design has always been suspect so I'm not sure why anyone...

3. Their mission design has always been sub par at best so I'm not sure...

Destiny is a hoot. I'm having a great time. I'm only at level 11 Warlock and can't wait to start over as a new class..or see what happens at level 15...and at level 20 and continue exploring (the quite empty environs).  Then there will be the crucible to dabble in...

There's a lot I don't understand still, but am figuring things out on my own. And I'm not in a hurry.

The game is mostly fine as is, IMO, and the potential is huge. I just don't know that Bungie has any idea how to make it live up to what could be there.

<shrugs>

I loved that mission.

GiantBomb is a good site, but Jeff Gerstmann has very unusual opinions about games that often don't match those of the average gamer.

Jeff and I used to have virtually the same opinion on games. If he liked it I did. If he didn't I probably didn't.  That said, he has become SO MUCH more cynical since Ryan died.  He pretty much hates everything and I'm not sure why he's still the business other than because he's really good at it. It just seems the passion is gone.

Anyway, finally played my first strike on Earth and...I. LOVED. IT.

After bringing the Guardian Gospel to the Fallen heathens, the two randoms and I spontaneously broke out dancing and it thus far is one of the highlights of the experience.

I've played that raid 2 more times and now I'm overleveled for it (10) and am finding that I still need to figure out how to balance exploration/crucible/repeating missions with not getting ahead of the recommended levels for the story missions.

The first time through that raid it was me @ 7 and two other 8s i believe. And it was wonderfully tense.  2nd time I did it I was 8 or just about to hit 9 with two other guys at the same level.  It was tough but a bit easier.  As a 10, it wasn't a cakewalk, but it was none too hard either.

So now I'm going to concentrate on story missions so I don't outrace the difficulty.

Really happy with the game so far, but I am just getting smacked around in the crucible...

You can turn up the difficulty of a mission if it looks too easy after you get more levels, click on the normal tab before launching the mission and you can see what higher levels are available.  Increasing the base difficultiy turns it into a heroic level.

I always pick the higher difficulty.  However, at this point the higher levels for the earth missions are still 2-4 levels below where I am. Does that modifier scale too?  So at one point will i be able to up it to 12 or 18?

Is that what they mean by melee modifier?

Infamous is not a 'shooter'.

Yes it is. It's more forgiving than most shooters, but it's still a shooter.

The combat is even fairly close to Destiny, shoot, throw grenade, engage melee, retreat to cover while shields regenerate, repeat.

I meant it's not an FPS. My bayd.

Hmm. Is infamous 2S 1st person?  Or is it like Gears? 3PS but with FPS aiming?  Because an FPS is muuuuuch different than a 3PS even if that's true.

Unless you mean the act of launching a projectile of any kind is ritt's achilles heel. slywink

I was thinking that maybe I simply cannot play FPS, but then I remembered the one time I was successful - that was Hellgate London.  I had no trouble in that game, so what I'm saying is it's not 100% me lol.

Don't charge in to groups of enemies and run away when your health gets low.  At least early on, enemies won't chase you.  There's plenty of cover, so just take out some enemies, run and hide and recharge, then head back in.  Also, melee attacks are very powerful.  They'll take out most enemies in one hit and stagger the rest so you can finish them off with a shotgun blast.

I think Ritt's bigger problem is he's just not comfortable with shooter controls with a controller.  As I recall he had a lot of trouble with Infamous as well.

Infamous is not a 'shooter'. Maybe Ritt is just uncomfortable with gaming in general.

I'm level 8 now, and just started with the Moon. Things got stupid there in the gameplay department. Enemies on hoverbikes are suddenly coming after you, and you can barely fight back since your regular weapons don't do any worthwhile damage to them and your own hoverbike doesn't even have any weapons. It forces you to run around looking for a spare bike, which tends to trigger more enemies that you have to fight off in the middle of all this. Annoying, to say the least.

For anyone looking for story or setting, this isn't really the right game. It's very clear that all effort has gone towards the gameplay itself. The story is disjointed and basic at the moment, while the setting feels empty and barren, with almost no personality. The social hub is so empty and pointless that they might as well have just gone with a menu instead. Most MMOs have more meaningful social hubs than this. There's nothing there but a bunch of NPCs standing in place, giving or selling you items or missions while maybe saying one line of dialogue when you approach them. They won't even say anything of interest when you hand them mission items, which is a very wasted opportunity. I'd love to be able to engage these people in dialogue, but it appears this isn't that kind of game at all. Any backstory or detail you're looking for about these characters has to be fished out of the Grimoire in your web browser.

lame lame lame.

I was hoping for a good sci-fi game.  I knew I shouldn't have trusted Bungie to do that.

Listen. I HATE Bungie games.  But I'm diving in on this one.  Give it a try...unless you tried the beta and didn't like it.

Lack of skill, equipment, or just bad to do when low level? Ah well.

What mission?

Remember you can always pull back and let shields recharge/reload etc.  The AI doesn't seem to follow you very far.

It's basically just jumping in and out of cover firing for the head, duck back in reload recharge repeat.

Also what's the real deal on the crucible. Do they actually neutralize the levels so that it's a fair playing ground?

I believe it scales to the fireteam leader.

Had a friend who was level 11 join me when I was level 2 and he basically could kill everything before I got a shot off.

Kind of dissuades me from wanting to have people join me...

Got about 2 hours with it last night and am Level 3.

Feels as good as I remember and am just working on trying to explore levels rather than run through the content.

Favorite non content moment: Found a soccer ball on the Tower and was kicking it around but no one seemed interested in playing along so I kicked it off the edge.

Controls still feel very tight and I'm using the puppetmaster configuration.

I've settled in on 5 for my sensitivity but I wish there was a 5.5 as 5 feels too slow and 6 feels too fast.

Questions:

1. How do you find explore and or strike missions? I didn't find them in the Beta and I can't find them now
2. Is there any reason not to scrap the original ship? I have another one now (that I think? came with the guardian edition).
3. Where is the storage chest that I've seen people talk about? No idea there was one. Does it unlock at a later level?

Only complaints  are the same ones from the beta. The paucity of information on the random stuff you pick up and that a lot of the environments seem sparsely populated and don't really reward exploring.

Quote
ne question for those of you who went digital.  With the disc, the PS4 install went fast like usual, then I launched so it would pick up on the update file.  After it downloaded that, it launched into another download queue where it got about 15gb of files, plus a separate download.  Did you have the same experience?

Nope.  All it did was 'unlock' the game and the additional items in the guardian edition. There was a 1.5 mb (or so) patch though.
