Had fun with it last night but the party/game chat is broken.  Beta and all that.

Settled in to using an AR and focused on the attachments rather than perks.  Had about 5 games in a row with positive K/D. I'm at 1.2 for those of you keeping track at home (update your spreadsheets!).

Additionally, I have completely lost track of who is who and what the overarching narrative is.  I thought MGS4 was the perfect conclusion, but I cannot remember anything that happened in it. smile

ATB, this line from Destructoid seems to address your very concern

For those of you who are curious, you won't be completely lost if you haven't played previous games in the series, but Snake Eater and Peace Walker knowledge will definitely up your enjoyment of the narrative

That's fine. I'm kind of interested in boning up on the lore anyway... I watched the Metal Gear video already and man did I love that game on the NES.  Skipped 2, and am now working on MGS1.  IT's 4 hours long. Gonna be a few weeks I think. slywink

The movement is much better than AW, but the beta maps are not particularly interesting as the focus on verticality has removed anything of interest horizontally- the maps, like AW, all seem to be focused on forcing head on collision after head on collision. The weapons feel better and the powers are useful (the two that I've tried).

The game is very fast and you die very quickly.  Right now I'd give my experience a C+/B- and am thus far not leaning toward purchase.  I think the skills necessary to compete in this franchise may have passed me by.

I guess I'm biased, Teg, but it is really really good. It can be very intimidating at first, but the balance is excellent and there's so much to do all the time that it's unpossible not to find something that fits your play style.

There are still a lot of newish/lower level players in the mix so you won't just be running up against high level players all the time....

I didn't realize there was an XB1 beta.  I preordered this today to get the XB1 beta code and will give it a shot next week.

With star wars coming out just a couple weeks after this, I'm going to have to REALLY love it to get it.  I hope i do.

I snagged this yesterday.  After the limited runs of the FO3 and FONV hardcover guides, I wanted to make sure I got this too.  I do wish the style of this matched those though.

I got the FONV hardcover guide, but I didn't use it that much, preferring to not potentially spoil my playing experience. I'm torn between getting it because it's the hardcover and would look awesome next to the FONV one and not wanting to spend the bucks on a book I'll be trying desperately not to touch till I get started in the game.

I ordered it today. I have the FO3 one and used it very sparingly...like when I would get lost with no hope of finding my way out. Also at the very end of my play time I used it to help me find some of the statues as I wanted to get the achievement for getting them all...never did finish that though.

We have a couple of new laptops from Dell and we upgraded immediately to windows 10 and they are crashing ALL THE TIME with the bad pool caller error.  Internet hunting tells me to edit the registry which I'm not sure I want to do.

Should I roll back to windows 8.1 to fix it or call dell tech support (I haven't done so because I haven't had a few extra hours to set aside yet).

Most of these shooters are missing the type of movement people really do when under fire.  Quick reactionary dives to cover or bursts forward to the next area.

I think the fact that you can run on walls indicates they weren't really going for a realistic feel slywink

This looks mostly like Titanfall without robots. Which is not necessarily bad, but I really miss original Black Ops and would welcome a new shooter with that feel.

Some friends and I were just talking about this: Imagine if all they did was repackage COD 4, or MW2 or BO1 and re-released it. It would sell like gangbusters because all of us who have been along for the ride are tired of the escalation of 'features'.  A fresh build of BO would be something, not to mention a game that 'resets' us back to what used to make the franchise amazing.

This is my last COD unless it's amazing.  Only trying it because Treyarch hasn't had a shot yet this gen.

This exactly.  AW was such a disappointment to me. I hope the movement in BO3 is better.

And all they need to do to fix knifing is to put a counter ability into the game like BF4. If someone stabs at you from the front you can pound the B button to counter it and stab them.  So simple.

Edit: Just watched Teg's vid.  <sigh> I am not going to be good at this game.  Not sure what to do now.

Long ago, I played with Eco in COD something and he was a really nice guy and great to game with.  Like many here, his real life personality seems much different than the persona he crafted here at GT.

I agree with many of the things he says about the liberal bias and how it has killed any and all dissenting voice but GT is just a microcosm of what's going on in our country.

Regardless, his handling of this whole thing has left me feeling embarrassed for him. When I found out that he was Kvothe (I honestly didn't know and I even welcomed the new guy here as I was excited for a new poster), I pretty much lost all respect for his little guerrilla war on this community as, for whatever reason, establishing alts has always been an unforgivable sin.

Anyway, do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?" For it is not wise to ask such questions...

As for the humor, I thought for sure you would see the impending loss of religious freedom as hilarious.  Certainly the illegal gag order against those who had their lives ruined for sticking to their convictions must have gotten a chuckle out of some of the folks here.  Don't forget that they were driven out of business for the hilariously trumped up 'emotional trauma and stress' caused by not having a cake made. Also, death threats!

Come on, the jokes write themselves.

What does the first amendment have in common with a tolerant liberal?  They both don't exist anymore!

What does the Bible say about homosexuality? I can't tell you because it's 'hate speech!'

Someone disagrees with you and it's a pile on?  Or is this a witty commentary on how two people represents 90% of the forum traffic now?  If so, clever satire.  If not, isn't this kind of oversensitive?

Did two people saying they like the content really hurt your feelings so bad that you have to call a halt to the conversation?

And two people disagreeing with you is a 'hatefest'?  REALLY!?

It's remarkable the deep levels with which we used to discourse on this forum where both sides could lay out their arguments and very rarely did it ever get anyone in a tizzy...and the flow of information was back and forth and mostly leveled and we could all learn from each other.

Now...we have this.

Now watch as freedom of religion is systematically attacked and eroded.

How so?

"Religious liberty is about more than just the protection for “religious organizations and persons . . . as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths.” Religious liberty is about freedom of action in matters of religion generally, and the scope of that liberty is directly correlated to the civil restraints placed upon religious practice… Had the majority allowed the definition of marriage to be left to the political process—as the Constitution requires—the People could have considered the religious liberty implications of deviating from the traditional definition as part of their deliberative process. Instead, the majority’s decision short-circuits that process, with potentially ruinous consequences for religious liberty."

"The majority graciously suggests that religious believers may continue to “advocate” and “teach” their views of marriage. The First Amendment guarantees, however, the freedom to “exercise” religion. Ominously, that is not a word the majority uses. Hard questions arise when people of faith exercise religion in ways that may be seen to conflict with the new right to same-sex marriage—when, for example, a religious college provides married student housing only to opposite-sex married couples, or a religious adoption agency declines to place children with same-sex married couples… Unfortunately, people of faith can take no comfort in the treatment they receive from the majority today."

Perhaps the most discouraging aspect of today’s decision is the extent to which the majority feels compelled to sully those on the other side of the debate. The majority offers a cursory assurance that it does not intend to disparage people who, as a matter of conscience, cannot accept samesex marriage. That disclaimer is hard to square with the very next sentence, in which the majority explains that “the necessary consequence” of laws codifying the traditional definition of marriage is to “demea[n] or stigmatiz[e]” same-sex couples… It is one thing for the majority to conclude that the Constitution protects a right to same-sex marriage; it is something  else to portray everyone who does not share the majority’s ‘better informed understanding’ as bigoted.”

Posting on a forum that is known for leaning left is nothing short of trolling, as ATB has proved.

Honestly. If someone feels deep inside they are black, who are we to say they're not black? Just as if a d00d feels deep inside he is a woman, who are we to say they're not a woman?  It makes perfect sense.

Rather than treat the mental disorder (in this case self-hatred and in the other Gender Identity Disorder), we should embrace it it as 'their truth."

Now we also have the interesting problem of 'agenderism' in which case someone is either both genders or neither.  Again, if we are to embrace these types of things instead of try to correct them, let's go all the way. Also for these folks we must appropriately apply the use of 'they/them' rather than him/her or what's probably more spot on 'it'.

Thus if what's her name 'identifies' as black, then who are we to race shame her and force her to conform? I mean no one should be ashamed of anything they do regardless of how crazy or out of touch with reality it is, right? This is the new normal. There is no normal and no one can be corrected for anything.

Where am I wrong in this?
