1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing on: May 23, 2013, 04:02:36 PM
Well, three hours in and I agree pretty much with what Rittchard said.
Its is a really good game for the price.
Does feel a lot like Titan Quest, which is a good thing, some Torchlight, but more serious, and maybe a nod to Arcanum of Steam Works and Magic Obscura.

It has a zoom in feature which I really like, there is no rotate feature but I can live with that. The graphics are the reason for the big gigabyte footprint, but result in a really nice world to play in.
I Like the story and the quirkiness of the characters, the Gothic setting, the old firearms, all handled really well. Lots of loot and the ability to craft your character anyway you want.
Katarina is endearing in the way the floating skull was in Planescape Torment.

For me in a nutshell, it looks good, plays well, feels different and is a lot of fun.

A month ago I could have said Knight's of Legend on the C64, but I had to get rid of all my C64 stuff to reclaim some space.
So now it would be Times of Lore on the Amiga which was late 1980"s I think.

I got my Amiga out yesterday and was playing Cannon Fodder.
If you hold onto something long enough it feels new. So,I can wait.

Played both. Both great games. You can't lose.

Just decide if you would rather run and gun or sneak and spring.

Or, exactly what Autistic Angel said.

5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2012 Gaming Character of the Year? on: November 29, 2012, 03:43:46 AM
Has to be Max Payne.

The character is voiced perfectly with lots of inflection, and comes across as a grizzled, cynical, down on his luck, I've seen everything before type cop, who still manages to be
a smart ass with a dash of black humor. Just a great character portrayal.
6  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Do You Go To High School/College Reunions? on: November 07, 2012, 02:57:33 AM
Went to one a few years ago.
Wouldn't let me in with out a ticket.
Went around to the gym door.
Some one had propped it open with a stone.
Just like 40 years ago.
Some things never change.
It was fun after that.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBox 360 or PS3 on: October 23, 2012, 01:29:52 AM
Thanks for all the input and pointing out a lot of things to consider.

The console I choose will be used primarily for single player games.

I use the PC for multiplay and I have a blue ray so that is not an issue.Future connection to hi-tech devices like iPad, iPhone also not an issue.
Not interested in paying for on-line play.

It will be primarily used to get through the droughts that seem to be occurring in the PC market. Seems that most games are diverting to downloads as opposed to
actual boxed content. I know I am probably a dinosaur but still like the boxed edition to add to my library. Although most boxed editions are getting skimpier the really
good games still seem to give you some great boxed content. ie: the new XCOM, Skyrim, the Fallouts to name a few.

So I guess I am looking for great graphics, good single or two player games, good easy to use, durable controllers.  Also hopefully a system that they are not going to
drastically change in the near future and make everything previously bought incompatible.

Thanks again for all the valuable information.
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox 360 or PS3 on: October 20, 2012, 03:53:59 PM
Don't know anything about consoles.
Could use some input and guidance here.

Is one of the above a clear leader in performance and number of titles, or just a matter of preference?
Are there any differences in the systems?

Had a look on the week end but they look similar. The Xbox seems to have a better looking controller and maybe more sturdy, but both seem to have lots of popular titles to choose from.
Both are priced the same and look basically the same.

I know I could go on line and read all the hype, but hearing from actual users IMO is the only way to go.

Thanx all.

Same here, Rowdy.
Great patch, makes the game totally  unplayable. icon_confused
You would think with all the money their making off us and all the hoops we have to jump through to play, they could at least check to see if the patch runs first!

13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Old Game Revival Thread - What games do you want to see updated / sequeled? on: January 23, 2012, 05:23:00 PM
Really good choices so far.

A few of mine.  Drakan  Order of the Flame-who doesn't like a hot heroine

Crimson Skies-  crazy airplanes and an alternate universe awesome voice acting I'm in

Hostile waters  Anteaus Rising-for the awesome gameplay and unique concept

Dune-if you read the books, you gotta play

Unreal 2 the Sequel-loved the ship and crew, left us hanging-do it like Mass Effect 3
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rage on: October 05, 2011, 04:47:46 PM
Played about 5 hours and have the Anarchy Edition.
I did update my video card drivers and enable transcoding.
Playing with everything set to the max. Not experiencing any problems at all.

The game is easily the best looking one to date. Probably should be at 25 gigs.
IMO at this time, everything in the game ie: graphics, sound, voice acting, etc. seems to be of a very high quality and since I have no problems I am enjoying the game.
The attention to details is quite extensive and the immersion factor of your surroundings can get you shot pretty quick.
The duck and roll of some enemies may look silly but it also makes them a lot harder to hit, which makes you think on the fly as to what weapon to use to take them down fast
 conserve your ammunition and health.
The missions so far are varied and interesting and each have a goal to advancing your character as opposed to "go fetch" missions which in some games are just a time filler and make
  little sense.
Guess I am one of the lucky ones in terms of not having any issues with game. I do have a fast octo-core PC and a good graphics card so maybe that is why.

It does seem to be like Borderlands but on graphical heroine.

 So no complaints so far.

17  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Skype Question on: September 14, 2011, 02:40:50 AM
I have a Microsoft Live camera hooked up to my PC with the software that comes with it.
I need to get it working with Skype. How can I do this?

Do I need to remove the Microsoft software first or can it run alongside of Skype?
Is there a particular source to download Skype from?
Anything else I should know ?

Virgin territory here so any help appreciated.

Probably a dumb question, but does anyone know where the save game files are stored in Fallout New Vegas?

Game obviously saves each characters progress some where I can't find them. haha

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sacred 2 - Anyone had any luck running this in Windows 7? on: September 06, 2011, 02:22:20 AM

21  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / out of focus monitor on: August 14, 2011, 08:31:03 PM
I have an older View Sonic CRT monitor.
It is older but has not been used very much maybe a 20 hours.

Hooked it up to s PC the other day and the screen was out of focus.
None of the monitor adjustments had any effect. Running it in Xp.

Is there anyway to fix this?  Or should i just junk it?
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Latest Patch for Fallout New Vegas is a game killer on: July 22, 2011, 07:09:24 PM
Thanks for all the help. Fixes didn't work probably to heavily modded. Anyway learned a lot.

One more question. If you disable auto patch under game properties is there anyway to save this change. Every time I load up, Steam has changed this back to auto-load up dates.
The bastards.
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Latest Patch for Fallout New Vegas is a game killer on: July 20, 2011, 02:39:43 AM
Re-install the patch or the game?
Thanks for the auto update tip didn't know that. maybe able to save my game on my other PC.
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Latest Patch for Fallout New Vegas is a game killer on: July 20, 2011, 01:34:01 AM
Steam just auto downloaded the latest patch for FNV and guess what. I just lost 217 hours of gaming. Looks like all the saved game files are corrupted and I can't even start a new character.

Regardless of a new character or an old save the same thing happens. The scene opens for 2 seconds then goes dark and you hear a ghoul screaming and then the screen lightens an we see the player character
and then this repeats itself over and over.

Too bad Steam dosen't let the player decide if they want to install the new patch or not. Any one else have this problem.? Anyway to correct it and save my games???

Need help!!!!!
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeon Siege 3 on: June 30, 2011, 03:24:17 AM
Ok, got most of the problems sorted out, thanks.

One more question. When you buy from a trader how do you know what items fit your character?

Hate to blow half my hard earned cash to find out item is for a different character.
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeon Siege 3 on: June 29, 2011, 07:28:16 PM
Can anyone tell me where you can download the manual?

How do you save in the game? There are save points indicated by revolving swirl type things but walking on top them doesn't seem to do anything, nothing indicates the game is being saved at these points or even after a major cinematic.

I think the lack of a manual or the ability to download one is a real deal breaker on this game. Sure you can hunt and peck to eventually find most of the stuff but it is really annoying at the start.

Inability to remap keys is also frustrating.

Also how do you switch stances other than going to the character screen? This should be a single key stroke.

There should be a bigger map as well. Seems like how to make a good rpg forgotten by this company.

Any help appreciated.

36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2 on: October 20, 2010, 04:51:32 PM
Enjoyed it to some extent.
Found the placement of the UI which IMO is too big and right in the middle of the screen to be very annoying.
Nevertheless, there are much worse out there.

39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Front Mission Evolved-Battle Mechs? on: October 07, 2010, 12:49:17 AM
Well, I think the graphics are pretty good. Maybe not stellar, but still pretty good. I do have them cranked on my machine which may be part of it.
You are right about targeting though, just blast the chest, no time for anything else.

I find cities in general uninspiring, claustraphobic areas to fight, but that is only the first area. Other acts have you duking it out in more open environments, like tropical isalnds,
an aircraft carrier, the artic etc. I haven't finished the game so don't know what else in store.

In the old mechwarrior games customization was limited to choosing a mech and then customizing its weapon loadouts, paintjob, name and thats about it.
In this game you can custmize all of the above and also choose from different body section type. IE: different arms, legs and body type. Some increase aim, some power,
body packs can be picked for flight, power, repairs, or combos. You can even mis parts. A strong arm to wield a heavy melee device and a light arm with improved accuracy for a
projectile weapon.

I agree it could have been a much better game, but its still a mech fix. I have played Mechcommander and all the Mechwarrior games, and still don't think this one is that bad.
If you remember the voice acting in Mechwarrior 3 Vengence was atrocious and most of the landscapes were spare, but I still liked it as a game.

Maybe someday the will get ut right and we will all be happy. Yea, right!!! icon_wink
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Front Mission Evolved-Battle Mechs? on: October 01, 2010, 09:33:57 PM
Anyone playing this?

Am a mech addict and needed a fix. So far pretty good.
Am about 7 missions into the game.   There are 5 Acts and looks like 4 missions per act, so this may give idea of game length.
Missions seem varied and interesting with different types of locals.
Game is 3rd person.  Some missions have you fighting outside the mech as well. These are nicely done.
Graphics ,sound,music, all very good.
Story is not extensive, but enough to get you blowing stuff up, and there is a lot to destroy.
Voice acting a bit weak here and there but for the most part is good and not annoying like some games.
Keys are all mappable.
No joystick support,(bummer), but game pad is supported as is mouse and key board. You can only have one mech in the barn at a time, also a bummmer.
Means you have to re-outfit your mech if you decide to go back and play unlocked previous missions. Not a game breaker, just a stupid design choice.
Game has a nice Scifi feel to it.

Once you get over the stupid "wanzer" name ,the mechs are great. They have a great deal of customization and colour options so making your own unique one should be no problem.
The mechs handle well and since they can "skate" ie: move fast, combat at time can be fast and furious.
Mechs can jump and fly short distances, so the game can offer vertical challenge and strategy at times.

So far am enjoying the game and getting a good mech fix. Lots of similarities to the Mechwarrior games, so one should feel at home.

Might be worth a look for those of you who need a fix, certainly works for me.
