1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 3 New XBox360 RPGs announced on: July 28, 2005, 07:40:47 PM
Ok even MORE RPG's confirmed for 360? Could it challenge PS3 for RPGs? Well, probably not until they get a Final Fantasy, but still, this is great! Exciting! Helping the 360 in Japan can only help the rest of us I think.

Wasn't FF11 confirmed for 360 or was that for the current generation Xbox?
2  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Alliance Vs. Horde on: December 30, 2004, 03:08:08 AM
From what someone was saying in the server, Alliance actually outnumbers the Horde like 3 to 1.
3  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / I feel gross and dirty. on: December 30, 2004, 03:07:11 AM
I've only been playing WoW for 4-5 hours now and I've already seen more immature players than I did playing CoH for months. Too many Blizzard fans out there who bought this upgrading from SC, D2, and W3.
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half-Life 2 Impressions (Possible Spoilers) on: December 28, 2004, 07:01:31 PM
Hmm, I wasn't really even considering trying HL2 DM but after your post I think I will =)
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just beat HL2 *Spoilers* on: December 27, 2004, 06:05:07 AM
I've been playing the game on and off for the past few weeks so now that I've beaten the game I can't figure out if HL2 is really short or it was just so entertaining time flew. Overall I would rate the game 7/10 meaning its a very good game, but falls short mostly in the gameplay department not because it was a rail shooter but because really the game hasn't advanced much since the first game. Sure, the grav gun is awesome but really how many times did you use the environment to take out an enemy over your standard weapons? Not much for me because it just didn't seem practical or convenient.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone have doubts of EA's intent to corner/destroy pcgaming on: December 26, 2004, 11:03:14 PM
If I based everything off this thread, I would say the only thing EA is killing off is the hardcore simulation games which I never got into anyways. Personally, I like EA's offerings because there is usually a level of quality with it. The Command & Conquer series is still great and I'm estatic about them continuing Red Alert, the games haven't become any easier since EA ate Westwood.

What will hopefully happen is smaller companies will continue releasing those simulation titles. It also seems like foreign developers (German and Swedish) are covering some of the less mainstream genres with games like Silent Storm.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 Demo and Source impressions on: December 24, 2004, 06:21:46 AM
I personally thought the textures in Doom 3 were horrendous, especially on certain 3D objects. The lines looked drawn with crayon.
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Random Fighting Discussion on: December 24, 2004, 12:17:50 AM
I don't necessarily agree that fighting is a good thing because hell, who wants teeth knocked out or even a fatal blow? Unfortunately it DOES solve things when all else fails, or more accurately force. Its what I have to use to put my brothers in place when they don't listen to my parents and it works.

I just think that in an honorable fight, there should be limits. If the opponent is down and pretty much out for the count, no need to keep going from there.

The last fight I got into was because of road rage, I cut someone off and he got in front of me and slammed his brakes. We came to a full stop, I wasnt gonna do anything but he got out and started coming towards me so I got out. I didn't think he would but he surprised me and threw a punch and it connected with my jaw, I let him have it with a flurry of my own punches which pretty much ended it. I actually feel bad for the guy because he was probably in his late 30's not really in shape coming against me, early 20's athletic, he didn't have a chance. Even though he was the wrong one I feel bad when I think back to it because I broke his glasses and made his nose bleed pretty badly, he probably just had a bad day at work.
9  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / CS: Source on: December 21, 2004, 08:38:42 AM
I've been playing HL2 on and off for the past few weeks now, and just today I decided to give CS: Source a spin to see how the maps looked, I quit Counter-Strike over 6 months ago mostly due to frequent hacking and lame awpers. CS: Source, however, seems to be a gift from the gaming gods because I'm in love with CS all over again.

First off, the Source engine does wonders for this game. I love the ragdoll physics, I love the redesigned maps and how they have a more organic feel now, I like everything. Now, from the 3-4 hours I logged in today, it appears to me that cheating is no longer a big issue (didn't come across any blatant cheaters once) and there weren't 3-4 awpers to each team, in fact there were barely any awpers.

I don't know what the official changes are in Source, but is it tougher for hackers now and has the awp been modified?
10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / WHERE R TEH PIRAETD COPEIS OF HALF-LIEF 2?????!? OMG WTF on: December 21, 2004, 08:31:09 AM
Anyway just thought I'd post and say STEAM isn't all its cracked up to be and really hasn't stopped pirates as people think it has. You can still play it online, you just need a cracked copy playing on cracked servers, again for the amount of money you paid for the game (Free download or $5 from local flea market) I don't think they are complaining to much.

Sounds like way too much work for me, I think a lot of pirates, save the ones with nothing better to do than waste their time cracking games, will give up on it. I think the pirates who are lucky enough to come upon a valid cd-key will keep it for themselves.

What i'm really curious to know is if Steam has been keeping hackers out of the online games. Just today I got back into CS because of Source, and I have yet to come across any hackers.
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / .... Kind of disturbing on: December 20, 2004, 08:21:17 PM
Recently I've become aware of this website called My Space, its a place where people can connect with others for free, you can post messages, pics, create a profile, etc. I haven't used it myself because honestly, I don't see the difference between this and an online dating service so its just not my thing. The disturbing thing, however, is how many people I actually know who are on it. My brother is the one who told me about it so I typed in his name and sure enough there was his picture and his profile. Now, the disturbing part is the information he shares with anyone who feels like checking their profile, not to mention, for instance, his older brother (me). From this website I've learned that he drinks, thinks he's some kind of badass avoiding a criminal record (I know he's just trying to look cool or something), and just random other things that really is supposed to be kept between him and his friends.

The next thing that bothered me was when I decided to search for a friend of mine. I remembered her mentioning something about this service a while back but didn't think anything of it. Sure enough I put her name in and found her profile. Now, she's 20 years old so she can put whatever skanky pics she wants up there, but then I see a picture of ME in her pictures section and that pissed me the fuck off. Really what bothered me was that I was holding her in an "inappropriate" position with a bottle of jack in one hand. There are a lot of people (like my family) who I wouldn't want to view this picture yet its there for anyone to see.

The last straw, as you might call it, is when I searched for my 14 year old baby sister. Through the site I've learned she has a boyfriend, drinks (unless she, like my brother, is just trying to look cool), and thinks she's some kind of young Britney Spears. If I knew that slut was a role model for my sister, I would have set her straight a long time ago.

So what do you guys think about this MySpace? I'm not saying the service should be brought down because honestly I think its cool, but this is more of a question of how I should go about this stuff with my friends and family besides cussing them out and threatening them.
12  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Spiderman FOR REAL!!!! on: December 19, 2004, 11:41:17 PM
I think a lot of people who are into gymnastics can accomplish what these guys do, they just put a lot of time and effort into it obviously. A gymnist and a stuntman at the same time can only make for something impressive, that roof hopping looks better than the (shitty) 3D renditions in the Spiderman movies.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PC Gaming version: Shut up! It IS time to reveal your GOTY on: December 16, 2004, 09:10:25 PM
Half-Life 2 for me so far as well, although I haven't played many games this year. I guess my runner-up would be Warhammer.
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 Level Help Thread on: December 16, 2004, 08:30:26 AM
What the fuck this area is ridiculously fucking stupid... I just cant get past it. The turrets don't do a god damn thing cause the soldiers just run up and knock them over, and I found a decent spot to hide but... See I hide in one of the lockers the turrets were placed in, the one in front of the health dispenser. But its fucking stupid because it takes too long to get health from the thing and half the time I pick up a weapon on accident instead of activating the health.

This part really fucking sucks... been going at it for over an hour now. Not saying I don't like the game, I guess every game has its stupid piece of shit spots that NO ONE likes but the developers thought it would be fun to frustrate us with. But seriously though, what the hell am I supposed to do I've tried everything. All the tips i've gotten so far seem to rely on luck, like you were lucky no grenades were tossed or whatever. Also, how come the enemies have a faster shooting rate with their shotties than us?

Oh well, back to trying again.
15  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Good jobs while going to school on: December 16, 2004, 05:24:21 AM
Yeah working 40 hours a week is a nightmare when not just going to school full time but also trying to achieve good grades. I just quit my (albeit well-paying) 40 hour a week job today and I'm training to be a bartender but I think working at a restaurant as a server is great too if you don't want to struggle with memorizing so many recipies.

Other than that though, I could ask the same question.

Ok i'm in that room where you are locked in and there are four entrances and the soldiers keep flowing in, your supposed to set up 3 turrets to help you but they dont do shit for me. What's a good strategy?

I've been reading interviews with the director of Batman Begins and he assures that this Batman will be nothing like the previous iterations, I'm looking forward to this one.
18  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Spiderman 2 (major spoilers) on: December 13, 2004, 02:21:49 AM
I didn't like the movie very much, mostly it was pretty much every scene with MJ that ruined it for me. Sure, I can stomach some cheesy love/emotional scenes, but when it makes up half the movie I can't stand it.

The movie had its good points but overall it was extremely boring thanks to lame dialogue and stiff acting. Good action scenes of course.
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / My 2004 pc gaming year in review on: December 11, 2004, 07:19:37 AM
I completely agree with Ebonstone, very good reasoning and arguements. I had trouble with Steam/HL2 at first because my internet wasn't working, but I didn't react short-sighted by bagging on Steam, I simply waited until my connection worked and now I'm enjoying HL2.

Same with the Far Cry arguement, that game was on rails nearly as much as any other FPS the only difference is you could choose to go around a hill or through it, didn't make the gameplay much better if you ask me. Also, the indoor environments were every bit as linear as any other FPS. There weren't branching routes as far as I remember, and there weren't alternate ways of completing missions.
20  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / SCSI hard drive? on: December 10, 2004, 08:46:32 PM
I recently got an SCSI 20gb 15,000 RPM hard drive from HP, the connections look completely different from my other hard drives which probably aren't SCSI. Are there any special requirements for this thing?

That song always makes me grin.
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ok so how do I play HL2 if the comp has no internet? on: December 10, 2004, 08:42:39 PM
Intelligent consumers.

Unfortunately not everything falls under the intelligent/non-intelligent categories. What about a mom who is buying her kid a Christmas present and because she's in a hurry, or maybe because she just doesn't know, buys the game without heeding the warning?

I actually like the security precautions for HL2 because I'd like to stomp out as many pirates as possible, i'm only making the point that some honest people are gonna be disappointed to find they cant run the game.
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / My 2004 pc gaming year in review on: December 10, 2004, 08:37:59 PM
Not to be disrespectful or anything, but I'm going to have to laugh at your list. Doom 3 in your favorites and HL2 in your disappointments? Give me a break, I think people are hating on HL2 for the attention cause I just dont understand it. Ok, HL2 is linear, what the hell was Doom 3 then? At the very least HL2's environments were creative and varied.

25  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Paris Hilton fascinating? Uh, no on: December 08, 2004, 12:37:13 AM
I don't have any problems with Paris, infact I love how she's always flaunting how good she looks and her plush lifestyle. The only thing that bugs me is it seems like her facial expression never changes, its like watching a robot.
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Red Alert3... on: December 08, 2004, 12:32:42 AM

27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [HL2] Damn how long does it take to decrypt the game files? on: December 06, 2004, 08:53:50 PM
I installed the game finally after reformatting my HD which in turn solved my internet issue. I'm in the process of decrypting the game files but its been going for nearly 10 minutes. There has been progress, but is it normal for it to take so long?

32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Silent Storm... wow!! on: November 20, 2004, 07:28:02 PM
I liked SS for a little while but eventually the restrictive gameplay gets on your nerves and every mission begins to feel the same. Its good for $10, but I ended up returning it when I bought it for full price when it came out.

36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 breaks all sorts of records... on: November 11, 2004, 03:40:48 PM
Checking out the news scene this early morning, it looks like Halo 2 has sold in staggering amounts. Here are the two news bits I came across:

From Avault:
As anticipated, Microsoft's long awaited Halo 2 broke entertainment retail records in its first 24 hours of release. The company has announced that the game sold through 2.4 million units in the U.S. and Canada, with receipts totalling $125 million. With the one day total, Halo 2 has exceeded all existing video game sales records, but also the day one box office records for movies like Spider-Man 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and The Matrix Reloaded. Microsoft also pointed out that, by way of comparison, Halo 2 surpassed this past weekend's release of Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles, which grossed $70.5 million in the U.S. over three days.

And from GameGossip:
place. Coming on the heels of Peter Moore's prior $100 million day-one sales estimates, an updated stats page on Bungie's website shows some impressive stats for the game. According to the page Halo 2, at least at the time of this story, has had 276,259 unique players. Covering the first day, the figures go on to show 598,855 matches logged, and 60,628 players online. With the figures already smashing Microsoft’s own estimates, which included 200,000 players by the end of the week, it should be interesting to see if Halo 2 can help Microsoft meet its 1.5 million Xbox Live user goal for the end of the fiscal year.
37  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half Life 2: What will you do to play it on the 16th? on: November 11, 2004, 06:53:08 AM
I don't think I'll skip work or anything (already did that recently) and missing school at this point would screw me, so I think I'll just happily pick my reserved copy up on the 16th and play it for 2-3 hours that night unless its insanely good then i'll probably log around 6 hours, and dedicate some time during the weekend. I'd like to complete it before I get bored of it.
38  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How are the Ipods? on: November 08, 2004, 03:13:40 AM
My CD player doesn't work well any longer and its time I evolved from that obsolete medium known as the compact disc and move into MP3's. I'm thinking about getting an Ipod but $300 is a lot to spend considering I also plan on getting nice headphones. To those who have one, how do you like it? Are there alternatives to the Ipod?
39  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / 2Pac - Loyal to the Game track downloads on: November 06, 2004, 01:05:37 AM
He's not still releasing albums, his mom is still releasing them through the company Tupac established before he died. Tupac was a workaholic so to say, he worked long hours and into the wee hours of the morning everyday dedicated to creating new songs, music videos, as well as on the set of his movies. More albums have come out after his death than when he was alive, and not only that but these albums are almost all double albums containing over 25 songs per album. There were also 2-3 music videos which came out after his death (maybe just two of them) as well as two movies which he had starring roles in.

Based off the many interviews of Tupac and the content of his songs, Tupac always saw himself dying at an early age and knew he didn't have the luxury of time. Especially after he was shot 5 times and lived, he was convinced he only had so much time so he created a body of work that would continue his legacy.

A lot of people, especially those who don't listen to hip-hop at all, completely disregard the magnitude of his work. Personally I've found its been because of racism and supremacy (not necessarily white supremacy), plain and simply there are those out there that consider it black/ghetto music that doesn't relate to them. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of rap, I enjoy the art (I enjoy poetry and rap can be very similar) but for the most part I don't like many of the artists and their work. However, if you give the music a chance and take in the scope of Tupac's work from beginning to end, its pretty mind-boggling. Even if you aren't into his music, his story is just as entertaining because it is interlaced with so much mystery, puzzlement, contradictions, not to mention "clues" about his death that seem to be too obvious to be a coincidence.

If you can look past the "blackness" of his work (I don't mean to use this term and sound racist, I just use the term to describe his use of the word "nigga" so often as well as his references to the black community) you'll find a lot of intriguing meanings.
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 PATCH details. Patch due out tomorrow on: November 06, 2004, 12:42:45 AM
Fucking bastards some of these game companies I swear... it almost makes me wish I just pirated the damn game instead of paying $40 and not being able to play it until its completely fixed.

I have the same issue with peeps just sitting in the que lines, not cool at all.
