It's out!? Ok, on a combo, does the number of hits depend on the timing of the tap on the extra character or is there a random factor?
Also, how can you tell which character is about to be attacked so you can block?
I really don't know the answers to your questions. I *think* the number of hits is not so much about the timing, but more about the color scheme (rock paper scissors) plus maybe the defense and position of who you are attacking.
I haven't figure out the blocking thing either. I just assumed it was part of the "game" - usually they go for the front tank first, but not always. What I like is that it forces you to risk wasting your energy for nothing, so no mindless constant blocking.
